I was pleasantly surprised by this place as I was never too huge into the sizzling plate trend. Flavor and portion was very solid. I got the unagi egg. Egg was cooked perfectly with a slight char to the bottom which complimented the dish well. Other people in my party got the curry. Both were good too. Curry was not spicy and tasted more like a Japanese curry. There were also sauce bottles like hot sauce, garlic sauce, teriyaki sauce, etc. on the table in case you wanted more flavor. The sizzling plate does sizzle for a good 15 minutes after it arrives, which means there is splatter. Dont wear anything too nice! I also would not recommend bringing young kids because of this reason. Sitting inside was clean with modern design. I would recommend this place and come back to try their other dishes. read more

It has a cute interior. It's located in a plaza, there's plenty of parking space. You can choose your own seating, and order from the QR code from the table. This is one of the best Taos fresh i have been with my family. The service here is fast and the food is delicious. I ordered the salmon beef sizzling with rice and i love the portion of it. With extra egg as well. Be careful when eating it. You might want to cool it down before eating directly. The sauce is a must. They have 3 sauces including hot sauce, teriyaki sauce, and garlic sauce. Great combination of the three. The table is clean and the floor is nice. I've been to this place before but under a different name or establishment. We've been looking for a sizzling plate and stumbled on this place on Yelp. It's located in Newark and parking is of no problem. Once seated, you scan the QR code located on the table and you order your food from there. Once you've completed your order, you just wait until the food arrives on your table. Since most of us ordered the sizzling plate, the plate comes in hot and sizzling. You wait for your meat/salmon to cook. The meat/salmon gets cooked pretty quickly since the plate is hot. Just be careful not to touch the plate once it gets to the table. The salmon rice plate is delicious. The salmon is cut into cubes and placed around the rice. The way they present the food is very appetizing. The Salmon is fresh and the rice is also sizzling once you leave them for a long time on the plate. The combination of beef and salmon is good for those patrons who want meat also with their salmon. It's very generous. There's a side teriyaki or garlic sauce you can garnish while waiting for the meat and salmon to cook. If you want a little taste of these, pour them on your meat/salmon and you'll love them. We only had their rice plate but their menu also has Hawaiian food. I'll try them once I come back. read more

4/06/22 What a surprising find! We met up with some friends for dinner, and I randomly choose Tao Fresh. We weren't even sure if they had a liquor license (they do), but we were happy to discover that they do serve beer and soju. We started with calamari, crab puff and spam masubi for appetizers. The calamari was a tad salty but still good. The crab puff was very rich and creamy. Being lactose intolerant, I probably wouldn't order that if on my own, but it was a good portion size for sharing. For entrees, I ordered the Ribeye and Salmon Yakiniku and my husband got the Golden Eel Rice. Both were solid choices. I love that their food comes hotter than Hades. Be patient young grasshopper or you could burn your tongue. Once fully cooked and slightly cooled, the sizzling plates were delicious! We were stuffed to our eyeballs and ate every yummy morsel. My first time trying Tao's Fresh was at their original location in San Leandro. So, I was happy to see them open a location closer to home here in Newark. However, the first visit to this location ended up being a disaster and disappointment. However, upon reaching out to the owner, Teresa, she was able to make it right in the end by offering us a complimentary free meal on our next visit. The food here is on par to what is served at the San Leandro location, the only difference is the customer service at this location is severely lacking. The people that work here need to be trained on how to provide basic customer service. For example, like after you place your order, you would think they would take away the menus from the table. Nope, they leave the menus on the table. So weird. Also, when you ask the employees questions, they'll tell you one thing and then it'll not be correct. So, they just need to work on the customer service that is being provided here and train their employees better. If you can get over the poor customer service, then definitely give this place a try! I love the Curry Beef Stone Pot with Cheese! Super yummy and very tasty. Recommend trying it! You can skip the Hawaiian BBQ menu, it's not that good. read more

Been here several times and love the sizzling plates here. My go to is a #1, sometimes I add an egg. I've tried a few other things, like the Hawaiian plates (which is pretty cool that they have them!) and their calamari/chicken. Everything's been good so far. I love adding the teriyaki and garlic sauce to my sizzling rice plate.. makes it so much more delicious! Restaurant/restroom is clean. Service can sometimes be hit or miss, but for the most part is good. They offer a stamp card where you get stamps for each sizzling plate you order, sucky part is it's one per person so you can't combine the plates into one card. Flavor was perfect. The beef and salmon platter was good and the salmon very fresh. This is like a bimbiba with the crispy rice. My only thing is i ordered extra beef but the amount of beef is small. The sea food platter had fresh salmon and shrimp and tasty. The gravy tasted like clam chowder so that was a pleasant surprise. The food is a bit oily but you can remove the block of butter when you stir Good ambiance although a bit of butter smell in the restaurant so depends on if you care. Make sure you bring your phone. Self seating. Menu, ordering and payment is all done online with. QR code. Food is good. Fresh and tasty. Service is poor. They don't speak English, which by itself is not a big deal since I am doing everything myself. The only time there was service provided was when they brought a water to the table with 2 small plastic cups and when they put our ordered meals on the table. So when it came time to pay the bill online, the payment does not let you proceed without adding a tip. And the only options for tipping are 15%, 18% or 20%. I called the person over and she took my phone and selected 15% and handed it back to me. I said I want to leave a different tip amount. She stumbled as if she did not know how to respond. Apparently everyone leaves 15-20%? For full service yeas I would leave more. For service myself I leave less. And if the food was bad or other issues during a meal, I may leave no tip. I find it disturbing that tip is being forced. So I am told (by told I mean motioned by pointing to go to the front) where a paper bill is printed. I am able to write a tip and sign and tap to pay. I left a tip. But after that experience I was considering leaving none. Won't be afraid or shamed into tipping. We will probably go back for the food. Update: spoke to my bank and they sided with me regarding this situation. Got ALL my money back. So all this fuss over a supposed lack of a tip? Now you got nothing. Rethink your business practices. Do better. After seeing all the great reviews we decided to give this place a try. We were in town for a seminar and were not familiar with the area. Everything was going great until the interaction we had with our server. I'm so shocked at our interaction that it completely overshadows all the good things about this place. At the time of payment, our server watched me tap to pay and sign the receipt. BEFORE I had a chance to pull my wallet out for a CASH tip - once our server saw me put a line through the "tip" area she immediately said "Uhm. No tip? Wow." She looked so upset. I responded with, "I'm sorry?" She waved me off, mumbled something under her breath, and said "It's fine. You can go." I asked her if she was okay and she raised her eyebrows, gave me a dirty look and said "no tip." She waved me off and began to walk away. I'm all for tipping. However, I always prefer to tip in CASH. But the fact that our server went out of her way to make a comment IMMEDIATELY after was baffling. This experience was a first for me. I've NEVER been pressed and seemingly shunned for "not" leaving a tip. Her demeanor and attitude completely changed from when we came in compared to time of payment. The fact that I intended to leave a tip but she didn't hesitate to confront me about the receipt immediately after I signed made me change my mind. Come to find out that I see other reviews detailing similar experiences! Not only that, but to see the practice manager respond in such an unprofessional, passive aggressive, almost confrontational manner further enforces my desire to never come back. As someone who grew up on Oahu, I always try to support those who make Hawaiian food and provides a service filled with Aloha. The way that this and other experiences was handled is disappointing. We are still reeling from this experience. Since our server wanted to shun us in front of everybody before I had a chance to actually leave a tip let's highlight some of her efforts too. We're used to places where you scan for the menu and place your order yourself so that's no big deal. Our server brought out water and our food and that's the last we saw of her until we had to pay. There were only 3 other couples there at the time and not once did she ask if we had any questions about the menu, how our food was tasting, or to let her know if we needed anything else. In my mind, the bare minimum a typical server should do! If anyone deserved a tip, I wish I could've directly tipped the chef. The food was BOMB and was made incredibly fast. My partner and I loved the plant accents on the walls and the decorations. The vibe reminded us of a place we ate at when we visited Thailand. I hope that the staff can work on their professionalism when it comes to tipping or responding to the lack of a tip. You can definitely request a tip in a more professional manner. Maybe explain how it directly helps support the business and how it can help continue to provide the community with great food and a cozy environment. Something along those lines!
