We have been waiting to have Sopapilla for a year. Saw this place was nearby and had good reviews so thought we should try it. So very happy. We did take out and the order was prepared quickly and we were not disappointed. I ordered the stuffed sopa with steak and my husband's was the chicken stuffed one. Went to this restaurant based on the only previous review. Wish I hadn't. The chips and salsa were good, not great. The queso isn't free, it's 5.50 and it comes from a can. You know, the kind you might get at a high school football game? It was not good. The meat in the chicken tacos was canned. The ground beef had no flavor, it was extremely bland and had tons of patato in it, I can only assume as a filler. The texture was similar to cat food! The rice came from a box. The guacamole was bland. The tamale was bland. I don't think there were any seasonings used in anything. And... EVERYTHING was microwaved. They actually have the microwave at the end of the kitchen, so you get to watch them expertly heat up all of your food The only good things were the sopapillas, which is why I'm giving it two stars instead of one. I complained about all of this to the cashier, she took off the queso. So for three terrible, microwaved, food from cans and boxes dinner, we paid $40! Overpriced food that you wouldn't even make at home. Don't bother. read more

We were spending the night in Albuquerque on our road trip. We were looking for Mexican ! Thought we would try cafe 66 Mexican but it was closed. We found this Mexican place in a strip mall. My hubby said it was the best Mexican food he has had in years. The beans and rice we really good. My tacos were good but I would order the cheese enchiladas next time. So happy that this place is so close to home. The flautitas appetizer was huge and filling on its own. My husband ordered the shrimp quesadillas for his appetizer. Stopped on our way through since it is right off the freeway. Great place. Great presentation and tastes good. Good service and tasty food. Chips and salsa to start, with two salsas, both yummy. I enjoyed the shredded beef stuffed sopaipilla plate. Found this little place in a strip mall thanks to Yelp. It is only minutes away from the RV park where we were staying. They served chips w/a red & a avocado salsa with a lovely bite. We both ordered a carne adovada stuffed sopapilla, one smothered red, the other "christmas." The sopas were large, the adovada tender and flavorful. The dinner came with rice and refried beans and a second sopa to have with honey; they were light, airy and still warm. And dinner for two was under $21. read more

This place has some really good food and a couple of things that are overpriced/not worth it. The favorites I love are the stuffed sopapilla plates (like asada) and the ranchero skillet. The ranchero skillet has red chile stacked enchiladas, beans, rice, and 2 fried eggs on the top. It is really awesome, flavor is on point along with the chile having the perfect hotness! We got the large shrimp cocktail once and it was lacking in both size and flavor. I would steer clear of that. The complimentary chips/salsa/guacamole sauce is a nice start to the meal as well. This is the first restaurant I go to when I get back to Albuquerque and the last restaurant I go to before I leave again. No matter what you order, it is fantastic! They open at 0800 which was very good as my wingmate and I were just passing through. I got the enchiladas with the red sauce. Amazing, if the chicken was any moister I would have to drink it instead of eating it. Fresh cheese, brilliant guac. My wingmate got the shrimp quesadilla . She is very very picky and is often left disappointed. Today is was not a disappointment. The shrimp is sautéed and not fried, the grilled flour tortilla was stuffed full of brilliantly gooey cheese. We eat there most Sunday afternoons. They make the best chicarones in town. My Mom, a chile connoisseur, is pleased with both red and green chile. Great carne asada burrito. I could taste every single ingredient and they were all delicious. The front counter girl was very nice and sweet. She was very patient while I took my time ordering. She had no issues with me excluding some ingredients while asking to add my personal favorite ones to the burrito. Was excited to try this restaurant out until their lack of customer service and zero quality control came to light. I did a call in order got home and turns out I got someone else's order called the restaurant and was told I would get credit for my next order since it was their mistake they even took down my number. A few weeks later I called the restaurant for a call in order and turns out they got amnesia. They didn't recall when they gave me the wrong order. MORAL OF THE STORY CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE YOU LEAVE THIS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND HIGHLY DISORGANIZED RESTAURANT!!!!! Good luck at the actual location because if they treat customers over the phone like this imagine their in person customer service skills... awful beyond awful. I was stranded at the Flying J and I am from Louisiana...Go LSU Tigers,,,and was craving some good Mexican food. I went walking and what do you know...I saw this place and peeked in and decided to give it a shot. Nice atmosphere, clean, and friendly hostess/waitress. She recommended the Carne Asada burrito and topped it with green and red chili. Had refried beans, rice, and Pico degallo on the side...and not to leave out the freshly prepared sopapilla which I filled with honey. 3 things in closing: Friendly treatment, reasonable price, and awesome food!
