I'd recommend the chilaquiles - some of the best I've ever had! I will add that one day I was sitting outside on a very hot day and privately complained to my partner that the food was taking long (we waited maybe 30 mins for seating + food together) - I think we're allowed that lol. It's not like I went up to the employees and complained or anything. We were sitting next to the ordering window and I guess the employee heard us, and he was SUPER passive aggressive when he brought us our food. It was a little unsettling and annoying to be honest, especially because I sincerely love this restaurant and think their food is phenomenal! We ate and left, and even with this experience I'd still totally recommend it. One thing I hate is being catfished by food. Ordered the chilaquiles, enfrijoladas and burger. Chilaquiles- sauce was bland! No flavor, had to drown it in salsa. Enfrijoladas- Watery - again BLAND. Chef was rude AF when we asked if there were "PEANUTS" since someone at the table was allergic. MF says it's pistachios, okay cool, proceeds to get angry and says "its a nut". FIRST of all WTF you mad at?! Liability shit. We didn't finish the food that we waited over an hour to be brought out (party of 4). Also for the burger, found a HAIR inside it after taking a bite. Such a gem! The place is pretty small, but not much of a wait when I got there. Very homey feel to it. I had the mole poblano, which I highly recommend it. I think I would go for their enchiladas de mole next time I go given that it was so good. Their tacos dorados come in two protein options (pollo or suadero), and they let you mix and match. Crunch was good, but I wasnt the biggest fan of the meats. I would probably skip on this on my next visit. Ended the meal with a flan, and there was no better way to have it! The server pointed out a few seasonal dishes, including a roasted Brussels sprouts and Hubbard squash dish with chorizo, and a sort of deconstructed mole topping. Incredibly delicious. My husband and I came here for lunch on a Sunday. This was our first time trying Mexican food in Boyle Heights, and we loved it. Street parking is available near the restaurant. There is no valet available. The restaurant is casual and small. There are a few outdoor dining tables, and one counter to sit at outside. Tenampal is clearly a popular restaurant; nearly all tables were full when we came in. We decided to sit at the counter first rather than wait for an empty table, however, within 10 minutes of us sitting, a table inside opened up. The menu here contains Mexican dishes that I was not very familiar with. We ordered two dishes that I had never heard of before, the huarache azul and tacos dorados. The huarache azul consisted of dough with serrano ham, cotija cheese and beans in the center. It was delicious, hearty and fresh. My husband got the tacos dorados, which were hard tacos with a filling and different sauces on the top. We both liked this a lot. We couldn't go past the flan for dessert. This was very creamy with a caramel sauce, and wasn't overly sweet. All of the staff were very kind. We were told that the restaurant is a family operation, which made us like it even more.
