I really enjoyed this sweet find with a​ quiet atmosphere and delicious food. I never had the Thai​​ sweet tea before -- it was cold and oh so sweet. But, letting the ice melt some did help the sweetness to some extent. It was creamy and smoky tasting. To accompany my curry they also served a spring roll and a flavorful​ bowl of soup with rice and chicken. I ordered Massaman curry which was accompanied by​ rice. Rich massaman curry with potatoes and onions. A scattering of peanuts was added. I almost wished they had added a splash of color by adding some​color.​. A few pieces of red pepper and carrots. Just to add another color​ for eye appeal. But, I suppose that would take away from the original​l dish. It's Friday night and we wanted to celebrate making it thru the week in the market- As we stand waiting, we see one table left and it it ours. Seated we order crab Rangoon- light and filled with crab sour cream and cream cheese. Pad Thai- we ordered spicy- your eyelashes sweating with the first bite and a full body sweat by the fifth. Just came here for the first time, despite living nearby. I'm wondering what took me so long. Came for lunch--the place is mostly empty. I ordered the Thai Sweet Noodle with chicken lunch special. The soup and spring roll came out almost instantly. The soup was fantastic. Chicken and rice soup with a very rich, deep flavor, and not too salty (salty enough to taste the flavor, but not the salt). The spring roll was fine, but nothing extraordinary. Dipping sauce was flavorful, but also nothing extraordinary. The main dish came out before I could finish the soup. That probably means that it was pre-made, I guess, but it was still delicious. I had asked for not very spicy (I'm a wimp). They nailed it. Just enough spice to give it some flavor and a touch of heat. Noodles were maybe a teeny bit chewy, but not bad. Sauce was delicious--a tiny bit too sweet, maybe, but lots of flavor, and really enjoyable. I'm an easy mark for "chicken and goop" types of dishes, I'll admit, but this was just fantastic. This was the first time that we tried this restaurant after passing it hundreds of times. Every aspect of it was outstanding. The restaurant was extremely clean. All of the tables were wiped down after each group of diners left. The servers were very friendly and efficient. The food was delicious and the portions were large. I would never recommend this place, within seconds of entering, we were rudely greeted by a less than lack of enthusiastic employee. She was rude, curt and tried to rush us before we even had an opportunity to look at the menu. We weren't even asked if we wanted a beverage. We got up and left. Finally writing a review after having visited this restaurant numerous times. Used a Groupon on this visit with no hassles. On a Saturday evening at 8p TSB was less than half full. 45 minutes later it was pretty packed. Tonight we ordered the Tom Yung Goong shrimp soup. We asked for it spicy and it definitely was nasal clearing. Nice lemon grass and cilantro flavor profile. The wife and I both ordered Pad Thai (ordered hot, and it was). I got the pork and she got the tofu. The pork was much more flavorful (obviously, pork rules). Overall their food is very clean with good use of traditional Thai flavors. No glop here. Staff is friendly and generally attentive. We only had water this evening and they were on the ball filling up our glasses. +1 star for that. read more

My friend and I both ordered the pad Thai and it came out looking different than the pictures posted on here. It smelled odd and tastes even worse. Neither of us could stomach more than a couple bites. There was a red sauce to it which we couldn't figure out what it was. We just got the check and left without sending the food back, but you'd think if both plates are full and we say we're done, then we didn't enjoy it. read more

This is one of our go to restaurants for authentic Thai. During Covid they remodeled the restaurant and bathrooms which it needed. It is beautiful now. The food continues to be always consistent and delicious. This night was no different. Love the Tom Yum or Tom Kha Gai soups and most all dishes. My absolute favorite is the Orange Plum Duck. I've ordered this about 15 times throughout the years and it comes always the same way. Crispy and delicious. A piece of art when it arrives the table legs stacked and breasts sliced. I have been a long time customer, but never again. I called for carry out --- beef fried rice. I had checked their lunch menu on line, and it said it was $6.95+. When I went to pick up my order, it came to over $10. I asked why and was told 'prices have gone up'. I showed the cashier and another employee the web site with prices listed and they said it was an 'old' website. Then, when I got home and opened the food box I found the smallest egg roll I've ever seen along with a very small portion of fried rice. I asked, when I called the order in, to not include tomatoes. There were tomatoes throughout the rice. And, after one bite of the beef (all gristle) I picked it all out and threw it away. What has happened to a restaurant I once liked? Ordered take-out from Thai Sweet Basil tonight, it was great! I had an entree & dessert. I ordered chicken fried rice in medium spice. It was so DELICIOUS! I usually looove a lot of spice, and this was a perfect amount for me. For dessert I had the mango sticky rice. I am a huge fan of this dessert, and have had it many different places. I was hoping to love it, but I was a little disappointed in the mango sticky rice here. The rice was hard so it was hard to chew, it was also a small portion. But overall, not bad. We are new to the area and found this gem close to home. The food was outstanding! The service was not bad, nothing of note either. The portions were generous, we had plenty of leftovers for the next day. The menu had a ton of promising options. We settled on pumpkin curry and duck. The pumpkin curry did not disappoint. The sweetness of the pumpkin played beautifully with the savory spices in the curry. The duck curry was delicious. The tender, crispy pieces of duck were absolute perfection. Had bought a groupon here a couple months ago, finally had a chance to come in to try it out. The service was excellent. The waitress was very attentive, and didn't scoff at the groupon. To make the $30 spend for the groupon my gf and I got dinner portions on the entrees and ordered the sampler for 2. The dinner portions didn't come with the soup and spring rolls like the lunch specials but the waitress brought them out for us anyways. Which I thought was very nice of her. The spring rolls were good, but I was 100% impressed with the rest of the sampler, everything was fried which kind of took away from the variety of the sampler. On the entree side of things, It was delicious, both of the stir fry entrees we got were excellent. 4 stars because the service was great and the entrees were good, but the appetizers left something to be desired. read more

I've been to TSB a dozen times during lunch hour and ordered off the lunch menu. The portions, which include chicken soup and egg rolls, are very generous for the low lunch fare. My favorite entree thus far is the Mussaman Curry (Choice of meat, Massamun curry paste with peanuts, potatoes, coconut milk and onions topped with deep-fried shallots). I've tried a few appetizers as well. First of all, the TSB Fresh Rolls (Shrimp, mixed vegetables and rice noodles wrapped with clear rice paper, served chilled) -These take longer to make than any other appetizer but for a good reason: they are literally fresh rolls. Guilt-free, delicious, and served with a light soy dipping sauce drizzled with fresh peanuts. Second of all, Sa-Teh Chicken (Chicken marinated in mixed spices served with peanut sauce and cucumber salad) -Juicy, tender, flavorful pieces of all white meat on little skewers. Perfect for one person, unless you're nicer than me and willing to share. My absolute favorite soup, Tom Kha with shrimp (coconut milk with lemon grass, mushrooms and Thai herbs) -is probably the best Tom Kha I've had in Tampa! They are very generous with the portion of large, succulent shrimp in every bowl. The only thing I've tried that disappointed me was the Pad Thai. The quality was absolutely there but the flavor and medley of ingredients just didn't do it for me. Whenever I stop by I have to take it to go because they are sort of closed for a few hours in the middle of the day. I don't mind dining-in alone or just picking up... Service is incredibly pleasant whether you're staying or leaving. It's a tiny little nook, almost lost in a sea of strip mall eateries, off of busy Dale Mabry, but once you find it you will never forget where it is. read more

Update... I think they're on their 3rd owner in 2 years. Our most recent visit will be our last. It's now horrible, and nowhere near the quality that it was several years ago. They've changed the recipes and it's obvious the portions are much smaller, and the quality is gone. Service has never been more than 2.5 stars, but when the food's great, who cares. The only thing I would do differently next time is to spice it up a bit. I did a medium hot, the next is hot, followed by Thai hot. You be the judge! Let me start by saying I had never eaten thai food until I tried this place and now I'm in love! The first time I went was with a friend, we ordered pineapple fried rice which was served in a pineapple and drank plenty of plum wine. The service was good, the food was better. A couple weeks later, I went back and was told they no longer had that item and it could not be ordered. The service was mediocre, but the food was still good. We had dinner here. Nice place, clean and well-lit and the people running the place are very nice. We had fresh spring rolls and the sampler plate as appetizers. The spring rolls were a bit lettuce heavy but, otherwise good. The sampler had some very tasty items with excellent flavors and textures. I would definitely get some of them as individual appetizers in the future. We ordered the pad thai with shrimp and the green curry with tofu. The pad thai was very flavorful but not at all spicy and the noodles are a bit different than you might be used to in this dish. I'll ask for more spice next time. The green curry (with eggplant) was outstanding; spicy, tart, sweet with the vegetables cooked to perfection. Very enjoyable. We didn't leave room for dessert, but the word is their homemade coconut ice cream is unparalleled. We will return soon to Thai Sweet Basil. read more

Thai sweet basil is an excellent Thai restaurant somewhat hidden off of Dale Mabry in Northdale. It is located on the side of the Winn Dixie strip mall type shopping center. The inside of the restaurant is small but we didn't feel crowded when we sat and ate. The service was so-so, and what I mean by that is just a little bit on the slow side. The servers themselves were polite smiling happy and seem to appreciate their customers. The food was terrific I had the pad thai (chicken) and my wife had some type of curry dish. Of course I sampled my wife's curry dish and I can say from experience that both the pad thai and the curry are terrific. The restaurant also sells beer and wine which you can enjoy with your dinner. The prices were reasonable, the food is good and the restaurant seems to be clean and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. If you like Thai food or if you are adventurous and want to try Thai food I highly recommend giving this place a try. read more

We have take-out every so often from Thai Sweet Basil and we have experienced nothing but delicious meals every time. Twice, my husband has tried the stir-fried chicken with ginger, onions, celery, mushrooms, bell peppers and scallions. It is full of ginger and the chicken is moist and flavorful with crunchy, crispy vegetables. I've tried both the Pad Thai and Thai Sweet Basil Noodles, which were extremely delicious and full of flavor. The heat ratings are pretty true to traditional Thai restaurants, but you have to specify or they will give you low spice heat. I hope to one day make it inside the restaurant to test out the service and atmosphere. read more
