I live right by this small, family-owned place and finally stopped in today for a number 98 (yellow curry with tofu and veggies) and garlic rice. Holy moly! I can't believe what I was missing. There's ample parking since it's in a shopping plaza. there's a cute outdoor area with yellow lights and some heaters. Inside has spacious booths. Service was very nice and food came pretty quickly. As of late, I've found myself searching hard for a local go-to Thai spot -- a place to fill the void of my all-time favorite Orchid's, which is stationed entirely too far away from me in South Lake Tahoe (side note: please do check this place out if you find yourself in the area; likely the site of my would-be last meal). This time, my efforts led me to Thai Time, a real no-frills hole in the wall that seemed to be a neighborhood favorite... just the kind of place I love coming across. I brought my family along for the ride on this trip, so we were able to order a wide range of dishes. We went with an order of Tom Kha (spicy coconut soup), Gang Panang (Panang curry), Gai Tod (crispy fried chicken), and Pad See Ew with beef (soy sauce noodles). Starting with the Tom Kha: this was tasty, and certainly a promising opening. I do think it needed a little more galangal kick, and I for sure would've loved more heat, but as a whole it was well-executed with a nice richness and tempered acidity. The Gang Panang was even more successful; beautifully balanced, with a perfect spice level. I maybe wish that it were a little more peanut-forward, but the creaminess from the coconut milk/cream, notes of red chili, hint of basil, and sweetness from the bell peppers were all incredibly harmonious. This dish was deep and complex; I could make out so many different components. The Gai Tod was decent, though I have had more flavorful Thai fried chicken (funnily enough, my favorite being from a place called Time Thai Kitchen in Pleasanton). I felt similarly about the Pad See Ew; not bad, but not remarkable, as the seasoning could have been a little more potent (though the flavors were still there). Collectively, we were all more than satisfied with the food we were served, and were unanimous in that we'd be happy to return again. On the service side of things, the staff were incredibly friendly and informative up front; combine that with some real quality food, and you've got an awesome local operation to support. A tiny space with a big heart -- I'll definitely be slotting Thai Time into my rotation of local Thai spots. (That said... the search for an equal to Orchid's continues.) read more

This breaks my heart to review such a negative for a restaurant that I frequented so often. I still think Thai Time is probably the best Thai restaurant that I have had in SF. I used to bring all my friends here regularly. Unfortunately, in November, I ordered green salmon curry and got really sick (ended up in the ER with severe food poisoning). The restaurant venue is tiny and it's likely hard for them to maintain food safety (the bathroom is right next to the kitchen). I would say try this restaurant at your own risk! If you don't get food poisoning - it's definitely worth it. read more

As of today, this restaurant is still delivery or take out only due to COVID. We came expected to dine in but had to order to-go instead. The service was friendly and quick and we didn't even have to wait 10 minutes for our food. I have always wanted to try this restaurant because I saw they had 2 pages of vegetarian dishes on their menu and this was very inviting to me as a vegetarian. I ordered their vegetarian pad thai (with eggs) and it was good but not great. The flavor of the pad thai was a bit lacking and their noodles are not the typical pad thai rice noodle I am used to. My friend ordered their chicken gang dang (red curry) and it was HUGE! It is double the standard curry take outs and we were delightfully surprised. It was definitely WORTH IT for the price. She said it was good overall but was definitely on the spicier side but not too much were the flavor was lost. She was not asked for her spice preference so I am assuming her curry's spice level is standard. If you are not able to handle spice, this curry dish may not be for you. Overall, the food was good and portions were HUGE. Very affordable and a BANG FOR THE BUCK! Lots of vegetarian dishes and extremely vegetarian friendly! TLDR; PRICES WENT UP 25% I'm still giving this place 5 stars because I've never been disappointed from their food. Over these past couple months, I had the pleasure to try multiple options at a great price such as their Thai time wings, ka meur, gra prow, thai time fried rice, mango salad, BBQ tofu appetizer, panang curry, etc. The portion was always amazing for the price point. I was planning to order again on my day off but unfortunately... THE PRICES WENT UP. I'm okay with like a $0.50 increase because that's what most places do but everything went up by $2-3. My go to item of gra prow use to be $10.95 and now it's $14. My favorite wings use to be $12.95 and now it's $16. That's like a 25% cost increase. Don't get me wrong, I'm not surprised by the mark up as I was shocked to find such awesome food for such a great price in SF and so close by to my home but that's just way too expensive for us now, especially when we tend to order often and multiple items at that. We may visit if we are really craving something from Thai Time in the future. Placed a phone order and the food was ready before I arrived (20 min). -Kao Pad Pra Prow aka Basil fried rice was so good! I always get this dish at every Thai restaurant and finally found the best one here (after my favorite place closed down) -Catfish & Mango consisted of deep fried catfish fillets and a side of mango salad. While I didn't find the catfish to be particularly special (thick batter), the mango salad blew me away! It's in a refreshing vinaigrette that complemented every dish I ordered. I would skip the catfish next time and order a full portion of mango salad. -Poo Nim (soft shell crab appetizer) came with 1 crab, fried eggplant and broccoli pieces, accompanied by a sweet sauce. Nothing to write home about here. -Pad Thai: I appreciated the dry, perfectly cooked noodles but the flavor was just decent. Recommend: basil fried rice & mango salad! read more

Recently went to Thai Time for dinner in the Inner Sunset. This is a hole in the wall that is a small restaurant. Come here & you might have to wait yet lines seem to move fast. Friendly service. I was seated as lucked out as there was an opening when I arrived yet some folks after me had to wait a bit to dine. Plenty of options here. I am a longtime vegan i.e. strict vegetarian so appreciated the many veggie options on the menu. I decided to go with the Pad Kee Mow which is the Drunken Noodles dish with tofu & veggies. I was able to have it vegan by requesting no egg. After some time the dish arrived. I loved the Drunken Noodles. The veggies were sliced super thin, plenty of broccoli & flavorful heat that made it it a very tasty dish. They did use chopped up carrots and cabbage in the dish too which you have on the side. I thought it was a nice refreshing balance to the dish. There were also bean sprouts like other thai restaurants but less than the usual since their were other veggies. The pad sew yew was like other thai places. I felt like the pad thai was different and stood out and was our favorite. The restaurant was pretty small so there could easily be a wait time. You can always call ahead if time to see. The waitress was really nice and refilled our waters even before it became empty. My husband and I drink a lot of water so it's usually a problem at other places. Thai food is probably one of my favorite cuisines and I had been on the hunt for the best thai food in sf. This is probably my favorite place I've tried so far. Came for lunch with a friend and luckily got seated immediately. It doesn't have much seating and my friend says it can get pretty crowded. This is one of my friend's favorite places because of the Tom Kha Gai Soup ($10) and says the flavors are amazing! I also liked that you could get brown rice with it instead of white. However, I HAD to get the Pad See Ew ($10) because it's my favorite dish. I love that they had a good amount of vegetables and there was the perfect amount of sauce. We also got the mango sticky rice ($5), which was sooo good. Mango was a bit hard (out of season so I was just happy they had it), but the coconut rice helped to add sweetness and it was a good sized portion. Thai Time is definitely my all-time favorite Thai food in the Richmond District. This place has been here my whole life growing up in the neighborhood, and for good reason. It's family owned and ran, has great service and you can tell there's lots of love going into the food. The pad thai, thai time fried rice, and the pad see ew are some of my favorites. Appetizer sampler is decent, everything on it tastes good (chicken satay is probably the weakest item in it, not bad but not cooked over charcoal so not as good as it can be). The fried chicken was a little greasy, but it had a great light crunchy batter on the outside and the chicken was tender. Really good. The stir fry was also really tasty and fresh. We've ordered takeout 3 times during Covid and each time we try to get new items to extend our Thai food palate... but it's very hard to do when they do the classics so well. Hands down my favorite was inhaling the roti and yellow curry. Actually, the pad Thai was the one. Wait, no let's give it to the Tom Kha coconut soup. That fried catfish and mango though, yooo! This may be my new neighborhood Thai restaurant! We walked in and ordered chicken pad thai, chicken pad kee mao, and a thai iced tea to-go on Saturday night around 7:30 PM. The restaurant itself is very intimate and cozy with very limited seating. I would love to dine in one night. The food came out fast, so we we quickly made our way home to enjoy dinner. Both dishes were so tasty and fresh! We usually have left overs after dining on Thai food but both containers ended up completely empty. PROS: - Taste, portions, price are A+ - Fast service - Lots of appetizing specials, definitely want to check those out CONS: - Not sure if this is normal but I found a handful of tofu in my chicken pad thai. Came here to get takeout and our order was ready within 10 minutes! Service was quick and the servers were friendly :) We ordered the chicken pad thai, which had a big portion (fed 2 people). Lots of ingredients and the texture was perfect. However, there was a slight burnt taste... My favorites was the Japanese Eggplant & Basil with tofu. The one opportunity for improvement is the beef in the pad see-ew (it was a bit dry and chewy). And they basically said they couldn't help me because I ordered thru yelp. Round and round. Picked up my food. Got home. Sweet potato samosa things were good. I think the first time I came here, I wanted to cry because of how long it took for the food to come out. I was really craving Thai food so the boyfriend and I decided to try it out. Small restaurant with small tables but it smelled amazing. Good sign so far. We waited a while for just menus and waters, but put in our order (three dishes) relatively quickly. Then waited... and waited... and waited. For an hour. I'm honestly not even exaggerating because the entire time, I had one eye on an empty table that was piling up with to-go bags and customers arriving for pick-ups. If they straight up told me that they honored to-go customers more than in-house customers, I would believe it. Don't get me wrong; the food was great. But worth waiting an hour for? Absolutely not. Thai Time on Clement. Recently we did take out order. It was very easy. The food was quite good. There was a good amount of food for the value, and delicious flavors. We ordered the Thai Time combo (this is an appetizer sampler of some of the items they have). Just a warning: everything on the sampler is deep-fried. That may be a good thing for you, or not, but just warning you. Me? I liked everything on it. Even the fish cakes had a lemongrass flavor that was quite pleasant. We also got the Thai Time Wings. These wings are in a fragrant curry sauce that is very, very good. We also got the Pad Se Ew (because we enjoy the sweet, long, flat noodles) and the Gai Himmapan, which was a fried chicken slices with vegetables and yummyness. Really, we enjoyed the dishes that we ordered. I would order from this place again. Good value, and good food. read more
