Been to many Capital Grilles, all 4 in NY, LA, Denver, Miami, Vegas, 2 in Chicago, Philadelphia and even Mexico City. I keep coming back because of the consistency. It's like a high-end Shake Shack, every location is pretty good. This was my first visit to the Memphis location and the "vibe" was different here. It was dark, really, really dark. I had to use the light app on my cell to read the menu, so apologies for the dearth and poor photo quality. We shared a seafood plateau (no photos, too dark, didn't want to offend other diners with glaring flash photography) which was when we felt the presence of global supply chain impact. The oysters were tiny and limp. Memphis is an oyster paradise with great gulf oysters available readily at almost every eatery on all spectrums. It is not ok to serve miniscule, deflated oysters in this town. I wish I had taken photos. The lump crab cocktail portion was also undersized and not "jumbo" lump grade, maybe medium grade. No clams or mussels. Lobster, oysters, jumbo shrimp (good size, good quality), crab meat. Wouldn't call it a "grand" plateau, but "plateau" would be accurate. My simple field green salad with heirloom tomatoes arrived with 2 cherry tomato halves. I love stunted, mishaped heirloom tomatoes because they taste super tomato-ey, that was the whole point of ordering the salad. 12oz ribeye, good quality, proper temperature. My petit filets came out medium well and the poached lobster was rubbery. Best guess is that the dish was fired properly, but was likely sitting under the heating lamps for over 5 minutes waiting for service :( The redeemer of the night was the bone-in 16oz filet (photo!). Perfectly medium rare, with bearnaise and Oscar topping of lump crab meat (not jumbo though). Tender, well seasoned. My petit filet and lobster entree was refired, but alas we were already discombobulated by the service. To Capital Grille's credit, they removed the petit filet/lobster entree from the final bill. Also, their wine list was stocked with accurate vintages while many restaurants are currently inconsistent with their wine offerings. Not Capital Grille's best performance tonight, but you could tell that once the world becomes normal again, with the full pallet of prime ingredients, this place could be as good as its other branches. read more

Went for the first time for a birthday Drinks were great an the waiter was very nice an informative as well as great recommendations. Now what didn't like was my ribeye. They said it was char from the brown sugar an wine. An I asked for it medium they did it medium well an when I put the light on it it was definitely burnt. An they apologized. The Capital Grille in Memphis is a wonderful place for dinner and gathering with friends. The service is fantastic, and the food is cooked and presented very well. I went with a friend to check out their private dining rooms for a meeting. We ended up having an early dinner. Everyone was so friendly. They took excellent care of us. If you are big into having wine matched to your dinner, this is the place. The various doing rooms in the restaurant are arranged around a glass enclosed wine collection. Regular patrons can arrange for their own wine cooler within the cellar to hold their reserved wines. Try it out. You'll want to come back. read more

This place just keeps getting better. They hit a low point pre-pandemic. But every time we have gone over the last year it has been better and better. The steaks are seasoned really well and cooked properly. The sides are delicious and also seasoned in a balanced way. A long time ago everything was way over the top but now you can really taste the spinach or the garlic or whatever it was you are supposed to taste. When you go to Capital Grille you expect consistency, quality , and great service. On a Friday I was able to secure a table in the bar area and was greeted by Madelaine (her spelling on the check). Being a Maryland lad I honed in on the lump crab cocktail----it was stunning. Of course, I suggested adding a sprinkle of Old Bay to kick it up to the stars. The bone-in ribeye melted. It was so tender, a knife was not needed. The sea-salted crusted added to the flavor. The dessert selection is attractive and required for your hard earned dollars. The boyfriend picked this place for my birthday dinner. I've always wanted to try it so he made a good choice. I wasn't expecting it to be so busy for a Tuesday night, but it was very lively. The hostess was really sweet and didn't have a problem switching our table: the first one had us sitting side by side and I prefer across. Our waiter was cool. Only thing I didn't like was once we told her this was our first time here, she spoke to us like we'd never been to a fine dining restaurant. I had their version of a surf and turf and it was enough to have lunch the next day. The lobster Mac and cheese is probably one of the best sides I've ever had. It's super good and we added crab to it as well. Overall it was a good experience. Other places we've been had a more intimate setting, personalization for the occasion. We live in Nashville and were visiting our daughter at U of M. Decided to have a nice dinner at Capital Grille. We had the tartare and prosciutto wrapped mozzarella for starters. Loved them both! We didn't realize the mozzarella would be baked with the bacon around it. Man it was good, and the tomatoes were marinated as well. Then for mains we had the South African tail, the tenderloins, and the salmon. All were tremendous. The star of the show was the French onion soup though. Seemingly an inch of cheese baked in top of the richest broth and onions, the soup was just as good as a bowl I had at Wilson's Cafe in Paris. Our waiter was amazing and kind as well! read more

My initial review after my first visit: Capital Grille is one of those restaurants you categorize as "classy." At any given time, you'll see people in suits who appear to be making deals, a family celebrating an important occasion or a couple enjoying a romantic meal. The staff's small attention to detail screams posh, like when your server sees you're wearing black and switches out your white napkin to a black napkin so the white napkin won't leave lint on your clothes. You'll pay a little extra for your fare, but you won't be disappointed. Every penny is worth it! It's obvious the chef is buying top-of-the-line meats and fresh vegetables. To boot, the presentation of the food is glorious! I don't eat beef too regularly , but if I'm going to eat it, this is where it will happen. They just do too great a job with beef to resist. The filet is my favorite! I have never been let down with the salmon entree and my mother-in-law, who eats like a bird, went to town on their lamb chops. My husband devoured their oysters. The owners also paid great attention to detail by putting up portraits of beloved Memphians, including St. Jude's Danny Thomas. The climate-controlled wine cellar ensures you're getting the best flavor out of your wine, the desserts are divine and there's valet parking. Just eat at Capital Grille once and you'll be sure to return. My review after an embarrassing experience: I had family in from New York City after my father passed away. My sister asked for medium rare steak. The steak was medium well to well done. When we told the server, he visibly rolled his eyes and dropped the new steak down with a big thud. The new plate was steak tartare. We left without her eating it. I paid him the full price of the meal and a 20% tip as I always do, but let him know how displeased I was with that service. Finally made it here and personally, I was underwhelmed. Parking was ok, I was greeted upon arrival. I went to the bar, which took a little while to get to me considering no one was at the bar with me. I've been wanting to try the lobster Mac and cheese and I was not crazy about it. Now, the food came out really hot, almost too hot, but some of my noodles in the Mac and cheese were a bit over cooked & I didn't really get a "cheesy" taste from the Mac and cheese. The lobster pieces were generous. The chicken was very juicy and tasted really good. The rice & mushrooms under it were not good at all to me. The combination tasted slimy to me & I usually like those items. Caesar salad had a little too much dressing on it, but it was good and tasted really fresh! Hosted a small, intimate event here for a group of family and friends to celebrate a mom to be. From initial contact with the manager, Sidney to book the space for 30 guests until the completion of the service provided by server, Iggy, every single part of the transaction was SEAMLESS. We went into the restaurant to view and book one of the private dining rooms one month prior to the date of the planned event. We were greeted with such a warm and welcoming attitude from Sidney. She eagerly showed us the perfect space that she felt would best accommodate our party after asking us a few questions. After booking the private dining room, Sidney remained in constant contact with us as promised to ensure that we had everything we needed and to reassure us that her and her staff were ready to make our special day as memorable as possible. And they did JUST THAT! We couldn't have asked for a more perfect dining experience. The day of our event, Sidney was there to make sure everything was as thorough as promised. Iggy was our server. He was the most patient and enthusiastic! He made sure to explain the pre selected menu to the guests, fulfill all of our many requests as urgently and efficiently as possible, and answer any of the numerous questions that we had. The food was IMPECCABLE. Normally, you would expect a few complaints here or there when dining with a party size of 30 but there was not one complaint! What an outstanding culinary "event!!" From start to finish my hubby and I dined like celebrities. We ordered the seafood tower to start. Wow the fish was so fresh. Lobster, shrimp, oysters and crab. So yummy. I ordered a lobster bisque that was not on the menu and they were able to whip it up for me. Nice touch. My hubby had the 40 day aged porterhouse which was cooked to perfection. Pair that with grilled asparagus and their famous lobster Mac and cheese. Holy moly ... totally memorable.
