Was pretty excited to try a new korean spot in sf (which has a severe lack of good korean food..!) and overall I'd say it was okay. I wouldn't suggest it but I'd go back if a friend wanted to try it. Service/ambiance was nice and it felt pocha-ey. Banchan was pretty good! On to what we ordered: 1. Honeycomb makgeolli: I honestly would prefer like 1/4 of the amount of honeycomb for a lower price.. it was sooo overwhelmingly sweet. This felt more like a marketing gimmick since a similar menu item did go viral in korea. the combination does work, it was just a lot of honey. 2. Kimchi pajeon w/ cheese: I didn't really like this. Flavors were fine and typical (cheese was yum) but it was way too thick/mushy/undercooked, and only crispy on the very edges. 2. Garlic wings: This was good! Enjoyed the wings. On the sweet side. 3. Rose ddukbokki: This was pretty disappointing. I really like rose dukkbokki (there's a place in LA called JJAN that makes the best one I've ever had), but this one missed the mark. The dangmyun wasn't cooked/soaked all the way and therefore inedible/hard, and the sauce did not cling well and was honestly just too sweet. On the plus side the dduk was pretty good. 4. Dwaeji bulgogi: Solid meat dish. The bulgogi was a filling plate and the gyoza was made to perfection ( I love gyoza). Everything was also plated very well. The service was very friendly and timely. It was a cold and windy Saturday afternoon, and yes, San Francisco was just as cold as it always is. My boyfriend and I were looking for something warm and soothing. The first thing that came to my mind was Budae Jjigae, and we pleasantly discovered this restaurant by searching for Budae Jjigae. I have to say... It is the best Budae Jjigae I've ever had! It looked smaller than expected for a price of around $50; however, we were amazed by the taste from the very first bite. Although it appeared small, it contained quite a lot more spam and sausage than other restaurants offer. We literally savored every drop of it with our rice, lol. If anything could be improved, we just wish it had included rice cakes, which would have made it even better! The Makgulri with honeycomb is very special, too! The honeycomb is exceptionally fresh, and they cut it in front of us from a delicate wooden container. Came here to celebrate my dad's birthday with my sister and my niece. We were planning to do outdoor dining but turns out their outdoor seats are shared with the bar next door. Everyone must be age 21 or older to sit outside. My niece is only 3 and the staff came out and suggested we eat inside. To be honest, I wasn't really ready to dine it yet but my family was okay with it so we went inside. There was only one other table of people inside and in a couple of minutes, I felt comfortable already. Their fried oysters and croquettes were sooo good! We ordered the crab soup for 2 but it's actually enough for 3! Alot of crabs. Although, the crabs were small but it's full of flavor. Perfect dish with soju or beer. Came on a Saturday evening and they seated my friend 15 mins before they opened. My friend and I ordered the kimchi pancake, dukbokki (requested to add ramen!), and chicken karage. Conveniently located next to Tiki Haven, I'm sure they have had drunk patrons from next door staggering in from the drunchies. I was one of those patrons a few nights ago and had a good experience ordering from the staff. They even allowed me to sit and finish my order of gyozas and offered a cup of water even though they were nearly closing in 10 minutes. Sad part was that their toilet was flooded, so I had to walk back next door to use their toilet. No biggie though. Happy to see they were open for outside dining as well, and there were plenty of people eating. I tried their Crew Special Chicken- sweet garlic flavor, and the Kimchi Cheese Pancake. These portions are HEAPING. I ending up eating this for 4 meals! I've never had a Kimchi Cheese Pancake before and it's officially my new favorite thing. My family and I love getting our Korean food takeout from The Crew! They're open almost everyday and are never out of ingredients for the food we like to order. We ordered the Spicy Kalbi Jjim, Seafood Pancake, Sweet Garlic Chicken Wings, Soft Tofu Soup with Beef, and Spicy Pork. The Spicy Kalbi Jjim was very good. The sauce is spicy and comes with a generous portion of braised beef meat, rice cakes and noodles on the side were perfect to soak up all the spicy sauce. The seafood pancake was my favorite by far. It was such a large portion it almost didn't fit in the to go container and it was very crispy even after the drive home! We always make sure we get their sweet garlic chicken wings. The sauce is super addicting and is great over the purple rice that they provide. For the soft tofu soup, the beef was tender and not overcooked. It had a great balance between the meat, vegetables and tofu. It was perfect for the current cold San Francisco weather. The side dishes are our favorite too. We love the fish cakes and their homemade kimchi. The portions are large, and the service is always extremely friendly. Please continue to support small businesses. Walked in and didn't realize they lightly remodelled the place. Menu stated it was a "soft grand opening". We didn't notice any change in the food quality from the old Crew but the new Crew has gotten more expensive and even charges for hot water. We were also charged extra for cheese on the tteokbokki that didn't have cheese. Moving forward, It's going to be a hard pass for me as there are better Korean places to dine given the cost. This review is solely for their rose dokbokki since that was the only thing we ordered for takeout, thanks to my late night cravings! The Crew has been around since my highschool days and I've always loved the mom and pop feel of the place. They did go through a long but very nice and needed remodel a few months ago; the entirely place was revamped including their menu which I'm super excited to try some other time. We didn't sit down so I can't really speak for their service but the place was pretty busy when we came by around 8pm on a weekend with people waiting out the door. We were helped promptly, he put our order in and after about 15mins, our order was ready. I will say though that their banchans are on the skimpier side or maybe it was because we had only ordered one entree and it was take out; maybe their sit down is better. However the dish itself was booomb; filled with dokbokki and fish cake, drenched in their cheesy pink sauce! Since we live close by, the food was still piping hot when we got home and we killed it! Don't be fooled by the name because this place sells authentic and delicious Korean cuisine, and this is someone who frequents Koreatown quite often at home! Every time I visit San Francisco, I always think about going to The Crew. I can confidently say that it is one of the best places you can find authentic Korean cuisine. Right when I walk through the door I am immediately greeted by welcoming and cheerful staff. The ambiance of the restaurant is very cozy and the aroma makes you want to dig right in after a cold day of exploring San Francisco. Some of my favorite dishes here include the budae jjigae (add cheese!), sweet & spicy chicken wings, bbq short rib, and the seafood pancake. I have also tried the soju cocktails a couple of times and I definitely recommend it. The food is always consistently delicious and I have never been disappointed. With COVID, I am saddened that the restaurant has fully transitioned to takeout orders only. I'll be going regularly after this. I've also been super hesitant to eat out since COVID but I was able to finally find this place - a safe/responsible restaurant with separated outdoor seating, and extremely careful and prepared waiters/waitresses. All of the employees had gloves, masks, and even face shields. I also noticed that they prepare the meals in individually packaged containers to limit its exposure. Less than 5 minutes later they drop off our check and say nonchalantly they are having a small fire issue in the kitchen and won't be able to give us our other food dishes. We're thinking, "it's cool, we will enjoy the dish we have and finish our drinks." They still charge us $204 and push for us to pay. At this time, we have no idea the severity of the fire. The workers are only focused on making all the tables pay for their unfinished meals. Less than a minute later they kick us out the restaurant and we have yet to eat even half our food and we had leftover bottles of Soju. Wanting to try something new on Noriega, we opted to walk straight into The Crew shortly after their evening opening. Admittedly, I've never really noticed the space before - part of me even thought it was bar. The space itself is on the smaller side, grills on one side and regular tables on the other. Like places in LA they have a steady stream of current pop music playing to keep the atmosphere lively. My family of 4 ordered a good mix of dishes and overall, thought everything was done well. We began our meal with some banchan staples - kimchi, fish cakes, pickled radish, 2 kinds of bean sprouts, and broccoli. Next came out the complimentary gyoza (with Yelp check in). These were delivered piping hot right out the fryer and honestly were quite delicious. Our entrees came next. I thought the kimchi fried rice was one of the better ones I've had lately. Rice was still loose but had a good coating of sauce and kimchi mixed in. It was no frills and straight to the point omitting some more trendy toppings of spam or corn - I didn't mind, these often mask the kimchi flavor anyways. Moving on, the galbitang was a little smaller than I imagined but the flavor was totally on point including my favorite thinly sliced japanese yams within. The broth is also an ultimate comfort food for those cold SF nights. Have it over rice. Thank me later. Next, having read that this place is famous for its chicken, we decided to order the sweet garlic fried chicken. Pieces were crisp and had a decent sweetness to them but could have used more garlic flavor in my opinion. Some of the breast pieces were also a little dry but hopefully you go with people who are cool with double dipping....or maybe next time we'll just ask for wings. Continuing on, the dolsot bibimbap was good but the egg was a little overdone and I wasn't sure why leafy greens was included as a topping. Cooked leafy greens are not appealing in the slightest. That said, this dish was still very good. It had just the right amount of crispy rice bits to keep the dish balanced. Probably the least remarkable dish of the night was the tofu stew. I don't think it was brought over hot enough - we had a little challenge cooking our raw egg thoroughly. It looked more soft boiled at the end of the day. let me tell yall that i have encountered one of the rudest food service workers here. she told us around 45 minute wait time and we came back every 10-15 minutes to check. eventually our name crossed off the waitlist and we asked if we could be seated, but this older korean lady told my friend that she has "never seen her face in her life". she turned to the other groups and asked if she has seen her before. this is extremely unprofessional! customer is always right . if she had a problem, she should've checked the cameras because we have been waiting for longer than 45 minutes. we got seated and the service inside was very very kind! we only tried the army stew. we missed the small text saying it feeds only 2 but we assumed that because it was $50 it would be bigger. i also find that the honey comb makgeolli is yummy but it was expensive. i find it was unclear that each honeycomb is $10 and you have to buy the makegeolli as a pot. the people inside helping us were very kind, but we probably won't return. this place is too expensive for what you get and the host was extremely rude read more

They re-vamped the menu and aesthetics and it's gone from casual local favorite to an elevated experience, while the prices are still just as affordable! They even have more gluten free and vegan options, but kept all the classics like bibimbap and Korean BBQd meats prepared in authentic Korean style. The rose tteokbokki has sausage, fish cakes, and udon inside. It was sweeter than expected as well but the udon was really chewy. My favorite from this meal was definitely the seafood pancake. It was crispy and even had shrimp in it. The beef bibimbap was good as well but I wish the rice was a bit crispier from the stone pot. The servers were really nice and offered to help mix our bibimbap. The restaurant is fairly small and since it was peak dinner time on Saturday, we did have to wait longer (~1.5hrs).
