I keep forgetting this place exists, and yet; every time I chance upon it I'm very surprised . Food is good, MUCH better when it's hot (I was In a rush so didn't get to eat it until it was lukewarm, which is my fault. The owner is umm... how do you say "not a people person but makes really good fish n chips" in English? Because he is that. I tried two different dishes with one being the snapper... it wasn't my favorite , the haddock was really nice, even when it wasn't hot. I would like to try their halibut someday.

That's me by his food cart waiting 10 minutes while he made everything fresh (he always does!).

Man, do I love this place! From that late great food cart pod across from "City Target" to that outstanding Beaverton food cart pod behind City Hall, this guy has held it down! Best, authentic fish and chips served in ample portions with homemade chips. When I was a kid, my USAF Dad was stationed at Lakenheath AFB in Great Britain. That's where I fell in love with fish and chips served in newspapers. Forty years later, I tried this place and was hooked. Authentic food prepared and served by a real Scotsman! My lunch today was perfection. Thanks again! Oh...and his prices are a bargain considering the portions.

Wow. Hands down the best fish and chips I've ever had. After I scarfed the delicious, well-battered cod down my gullet I almost got emotional and shed a year. I feel like I have a renewed, more optimistic view on life now. Life is good because places like The Frying Scotsman exist. Thank you!!

To conclude our first night in Portland, we decided to check out the popular BGs Food Cartel outdoor food court. My son was in the mood for a burger and tots (in retrospect we should have gone with his decision), and we were in the mood for seafood. I did a quick Yelp review and saw The Frying Scotsman Fish & Chips had solid reviews. Upon walking up to his establishment, he greeted us and asked what we would like to order. Since we have similar tastes, we both ordered red snapper and chips. My wife being the unofficial chef that she is, observed him preparing the meals. One thing that she noticed was that he did not use any kind of seasoning. With that being said, we were optimistic and confident that he had some magical touch that would make the fish delicious...boy were we wrong! The size of the two planks of fish was pretty impressive; however, that's where the good things end. The fish had absolutely no flavor and was extremely greasy. Unfortunately, our Airbnb did not have a stove, nor was it equipped with a line of chef's seasoning. Therefore, we could not bake away the grease and season the fish to our likings. However, one would argue that a meal that you purchase from a restaurant should not need to be "doctored up." If your desire is to have seasoned fish and fries, I HIGHLY suggest that you look elsewhere.

One of the few places you can find haddock and snapper fish and chips. Freshly breaded, fried and delicious. Would definitely come here again if I'm in the area.

I've been to this food cart a few times. Love the food, it's super tasty. Good things take time, and depending on what you order, it may take some time, But it is so worth it!

    Lunch.

Very light, crispy batter. Haddock is highly recommended. Chips are proper chips. Overall, excellent.

Best fish and chips I've had in the PDX area. Freshly battered and fried in front of you. Nestled in a great food cart area of Beaverton.

No no eggs or dairy in batter

Are the cart hours up to date? We've been unable to catch it open even when following Yelp-posted hours?

Just go on Yelp before you plan on going. I believe the hours are posted here. Appears he is closed on Monday, and when the weather is cold & rainy. Worth trying though as the fish n chips are awesome. Best of luck!!

We stopped by on a free bingo night and had an absolute blast. The service was great, the staff was genuinely friendly, and the whole place had an easygoing, welcoming vibe. Their beer lineup is solid with plenty of Three Mugs brews, and they also offer kombucha, cider, and at least one wine option, so there's something for everyone. The food menu is classic bar fare--sandwiches, burgers, and other comfort bites--but everything we tried was delicious. There's plenty of seating, tons of parking, and since it's in a strip mall, there are other shops nearby as well. I especially love that they showcase local artists' work throughout the space, and the outdoor seating area is perfect on warm, sunny days. Three Mugs has long been my go-to brewery after work, and this Beaverton expansion is a welcome upgrade. With more space, a relaxed atmosphere, TVs for catching a game, and fun events like trivia, it's quickly becoming a new favorite. Whether you want to grab a table or sit right up at the bar, it's an all-around great place to hang out. Cheers to the new location!

The coating even held up perfectly to the steelhead I ordered, which, as you know if you love steelhead like I do, is a very fatty/oily delicate fish. I've tried making beer batter with steelhead before and it both breaks apart too easily and also, the oil and fat of the fish make the coating get soggy very fast. Not here! The steelhead was super fresh and tasty. But wait, there's more, much, much more...! When I say that I mean the portions. Holy fabulous fish fry fantasy, Batman! These are BIG chunks of fish, each about the size of half a fillet! See the picture! I ended up giving 1 away to some people near me (who LOVED it) because there was no way I could eat all this! Even with that, I was so full, I could only eat like 3 french fries. And, the fries were very good, handmade, thick cut wedges, not quite jojo's, but thick enough to be super fluffy inside. But, that's not all...! She said she makes everything from scratch, including the tartar sauce. Oh, I love tartar sauce for my fish and chips, and this one was SO gooooooooood! Now, I can't imagine she made the ketchup, but I was very happy to find that, instead of a few measly commercial packets, I got two, count 'em, TWO nice big containers for dipping, much better than most carts. This was the perfect mix of protein and a bit of carbs before a hard bike ride down the Springwater and back!
