The Goat, located in downtown Columbus, is always a favorite lunch spot. The lighting is great, the decor is tasteful, and the food is cheaper than it looks. I ordered lunch soup & flatbread combo - a herbivore flatbread and jambalaya. The flatbread was pretty tasty. It had a pesto base with yellow peppers, fried chickpeas, and other vegetable toppings. The crust was thin and slightly flaky. I savored every bite. The jambalaya was less stellar. I appreciated the generous helpings of shrimp, sausages, and mussels, but the seasoning was too pepper heavy for my taste. I always appreciate a nice restroom and was delighted to see it was spacious and well stocked. They have mouthwash! What? What an unexpected surprise for bar/restaurant to carry this. If you're skeptical, they're worth trying, even if it's just for the dipping sauces. I'm saying this as an active meat eater, it'll turn you into a cauliflower convert. If you don't do anything else while you're here, visit the restroom. Huge area, super clean. There's mouthwash and perfume if you need to freshen up. I've never been in a public restroom in a restaurant/bar quite like it before. They also have an outdoor walk up window for coffee. Super disappointed in this place. As soon as we got a table, our server took our order then told us that we are a big party and may be here a long time and said she'll pass us to another server since she has to open tomorrow. She didn't even put in our order and the new server came over 15 min later and we had to put our order back in. To our surprise our original server was still there working. Meaning she didn't want to serve us, making me feel like it was a RACE issue. They never brought us waters, silverware, not napkins. Even though we ordered food and a ton of drinks. I asked one of the servers if i can get napkins and silverware & Plates and they guy threw up his hands and said i have to go in the back and wash them. They didn't bring any napkins and we had to grab the tiny ones from the bar Bc they refused to bring us anything. We never got anything and got fed up and decided to leave. We ordered tots and got this sad plate of potatoes (pictured). The fried pickles were okay. One good note- the hostess was amazing. The rest of the staff was awful. What a disappointment! I went with a group of people so we were able to sample various appetizers and drinks. The drinks were very uneven, and we assumed that they had two bartenders. For the first round, they were very good. For the second round, they all taste very different and not in a good way! The appetizers were most disappointing. We got the mild chicken wings and the jalapeno chicken wings. We tried that jalapeno chicken wings first and thought we must have made a mistake and they were the mild. Then we tried the other batch, and they had no flavor. We had ordered it with blue cheese dressing. The dressing was severely watered down, see my photos. The wings were also very greasy. The tater tots were good but the beer cheese dip was disgusting. It tasted like they had made a flour/milk paste and added a little bit of cheese and beer to it. We also order the nachos but were told that this pasty dip was put on the nachos. So we asked if they could sprinkle some cheese on top. They didn't even take the time to melt the cheese. We got ra plate of chips that tasted like they were from a cheap bag of chips with a few sprinkles of cheese, 1/8 of an avocado and 1/4 c. of diced tomatoes. See photo. Despite that, I give our server and manager credit for keeping us informed. Our appetizer was inadvertently given to another table, so the manager comped us ours. I'm visiting the area for a little getaway trip and decided to try The Goat for dinner. I started off with a raspberry margarita....and there was a bug floating in the top. I didn't say anything and decided to give them a second chance with the meal. I will say food was delicious however our service was absolutely terrible. We sat for 45 minutes with empty drinks and the server didn't even come back to the table. I would understand if they were busy considering i've worked in the restaurant industry myself...but they were dead. Barely 20 people in the restaurant all together. I went to The Goat at about 5:30pm on a Saturday. There were plenty of spaces available at the bar. The bartender did not notice me, even though I sat there for over 20 minutes. So I went back to the host stand, and they showed me to a table in the dining room. The server was so apologetic and could not have been nicer, the beers were wonderful and the Avocado Lime salad was out of this world! Everything happens for a reason. It's time for me to shout out The Goat for what it is - the G.O.A.T. in downtown Columbus. I spent a couple weeks in CBus for work recently and this is the one place I paid a repeat visit. It's pretty standard bar fare, but the menu is robust enough to satisfy anyone you'd bring around - no KIDding. I usually branch out and go for different options if I eat at the same place twice, but the Luau pizza was so nice I got it twice. At a totally reasonable price, the 'Za is easily shareable - I went at it solo and took the second half home. Plenty of brews are also on tap, and the Holy Moses from Great Lakes is a sure bet if it's available. It's a great location, a great name, a great vibe and a great value. The restaurant has a cool industrial vibe and it's broken up into different seating areas so it feels more intimate. We had a great bartender serve us, she had only been working there for a short time, but she was efficient, friendly and gave great recommendations. The goat has a decent selection of cocktails and bourbons. My fav cocktail being the elderberry(very refreshing and not too sweet). We ordered the boneless wings (highly recommended). These are housemade meaty wings with a light crisp batter. The boneless wings dont get more tender than the Goat's. The wedge salad was also delicious! I love that this location is walking distance from Columbus Commons. If you go, check out their bathrooms, you'll get lost on them. I guess if you go mid-week you don't get service. Showed up at about 5 pm, no one was at the front desk. A couple minutes later we were seated. No issue there. Got greeted by the waitress and the complimentary water. And that's where the good stops. From there my wife and I were left waiting. Yelp needs half stars. This place is a 4 1/2, for me. Grabbed a seat at the bar. Started off with a bottle of Yuengling and a water. I also asked if they had Skrewball. They did. I asked the bartender if they would be able to make a White Russian Skrewball. He said they don't keep cream/half & half behind the bar. I guess that is more common than I thought, not having it behind the bar. But he did recommend a Skrewball shot, with strawberry preserves. I saved that for dessert. I started with a wedge salad. Cant go wrong with a wedge. It came with pork belly and a lot of bleu cheese dressing, on the side. And 2 pieces of pita bread. It was excellent. I originally was going to get the Italian Pizza Rolls, but decided to spend the extra $2 and get a full size pizza. I got the Bleu Buffalo. Again, for me, you cant go wrong with bleu cheese. This was a good size pizza for the price. It came with a lot of chicken. They didnt skimp on any of the ingredients. I ate what I could and boxed the rest. On a side note, I had some leftovers the next day, and the cold version was better than the hot version, imo. As mentioned above, I closed the evening out with the PB&J "shot". This was made with 1.5 oz of Skrewball and 1 oz strawberry preserves. The bartender poured some ice over it and shook it, then strained it in to a shot glass. This was excellent. I didnt treat it as a shot, though. Overall, it was a good experience. A lot on their menu. Would probably go back. read more

This is defiantly not the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT). First I need to provide context, I was a server in college and completely understand the server is the face of the establishment. We sat at the bar and ordered a round of drinks then food. I had questions about a substitution and was shocked (and irritated) by the bar tenders response. She asked if my request was on the menu!! Not, let me check with the kitchen - just, is it on the menu. Completely unprofessional. I took a deep breath and moved on. I ordered a hamburger and fries. Simple. When the food came we had finished our drinks and we're ready for the next round. We finished dinner and left the restaurant without the BARTENDER (Andrea D) - the person responsible for pouring drinks - never asking if we wanted another (we did but were not willing to deal with her any longer). The burger was great but I felt the fries were just called in. No napkins or silverware were provided with the food and had to be requested. One of the people in my party ordered wings and had to ask for ranch dressing. The service was terrible and we won't be back, at least not to this location. The most disappointing aspect, the ambiance was great but couldn't salvage the terrible service. read more

"Goats don't have wings!" - Emily M., 2018 My friends, sister, and I wanted something casual near our hotel. Yelp led us to the Goat, which on this page said it had outdoor seating. We walked over to find the entire surrounding corner under construction, which included what I assumed what was supposed to be their outdoor patio in the back. We instead took a table inside, and found a mess of an interior. The color scheme was cool and they tried to put in some goat knick-knacks, but the the mix of the awkward cafe-style counter at the front, live music on the right side, and the misplaced bar in the back made it difficult to place what they were actually trying to go for here. Our server was nice and attentive without being overbearing. We started with the ranch nachos. A lot of the items on the menu are ranch flavored - as a staunch supporter of ranch, that's definitely something I can get behind. However, these nachos were abysmal. Between the four of us, we were able to finish it. It was mostly because we hadn't eaten since breakfast. The nachos themselves were tossed in a delicious ranch coating, but the toppings themselves were a train wreck. The beer cheese was flavorless, avocado that was not completely ripe, and it was all plopped over 1/4 of the chips while the rest were just sitting sadly on the plate, hoping to get a piece of the topping action. (To be honest I thought those chips were the most lucky.) After realizing the toppings were gross, I decided that I'd rather just have at it with the tortilla chips sans beer cheese. Two of my friends ordered goat burgers (actually beef) with tater tots, my sister had boneless BBQ wings with fries, and I made my own burger with mushroom, avocado & Brie with a side of the upgraded farmhouse tater tots. The tots came in orders of 8, which I thought was strange because tots are typically tiny. The food came out and it all looked great. My sister thoroughly enjoyed her wings. They gave her so many she barely touched her fries. My friends and I all enjoyed our burgers. In my opinion, my burger was the saving grace of my meal. It was juicy, perfectly medium rare, and the toppings didn't overwhelm the flavor of the burger. It's a good thing I enjoyed it so much because the tots were god-awful. They should NOT be called tater tots. They were the consistency and size of hush puppies, and they were dense. It was an absolute horrible side to my burger. I only ate a couple before deciding I'd rather eat the egg and overcooked pork belly on top. We all agreed they were tasteless and not something that should be on the side of our burgers. Considering the area around Goat is building up, I wouldn't try here again. The burger was amazing and the only thing that kept me from not giving 2 stars. Service at the table was transactional, nothing special and up to food delivery, nothing was a concern. Enjoyed the basic nachos for an appetizer. Good portion size with a cheese sauce that had a smoky flavor. Grilled chicken with goat cheese sandwich for dinner was good. The chicken breast about 3oz served on a large bun. Either chicken is undersized or bun is over sized as the meat filled less than 2/3 of the bun. The sandwich and fries were served fresh and hot and pretty quickly. Old fashions as cocktails were also good. Waited a long time for the check, finally asked the manager to get it. He asked our server for us vs handling himself. We waited a good 8-10 more minutes from that point to get the check and hustle to get to the show on time. The restaurant bar is very nice with TVs, restaurant is just an open space with little ambiance. Disappoint in the men's room, more like a dive bar than a restaurant. I came on a Friday evening with my husband and 4 month old son; the hostesses were very accommodating in getting us a booth so we could sit the baby's car seat next to us. Happy Hour goes until 7 pm and had some great deals - $5 mules and Old Fashioneds, $4 craft beer cans, and $4 house wine glasses for drinks, and Friday special 2 for $5 tacos (no mix and match). Our server was Brynel, who was friendly and checked on us often. My husband ordered the blackened fish tacos, which he said were great, and the bone-in goat wings with hot garlic sauce, also really good. I went for the bacon jam and Brie burger - delicious!! I subbed the farmhouse tots on the side and was really glad I did, everything was so tasty! My only small critique was that I ordered it medium and it came out fully cooked with no pink in the middle, but it was still flavorful so no harm done. They also had live music playing which was enjoyable. The bathrooms were very clean, and the ladies' room also had some chairs, mouthwash, and hairspray like you might find at a club, minus the attendant handing out paper towels for tips, thankfully. My colleague and I started a group at work and decided to hold a meeting on a Saturday afternoon as a social luncheon. It was a group of 10 women. We called the Goat and asked if we could reserve the community room for 2 hours. We were told that it was reserved for us for 2 months. Even on the day of, we confirmed by calling the restaurant and were told that everything was set. When we arrived, we said we had the room reserved. There were 2 people studying in the room. We didn't say anything to those 2 gentlemen who we don't know if they were residents or not. They decided to leave. Then the manager (Nick) came out and told us that we don't have the room reserved and he doesn't know or care what employee told us we did. We showed him a phone message we received from Zariah or Mariah - the employee that reserved the room for us. He told us he didn't know what we were talking about & if we didn't have an online reservation, we couldn't have the room, and that he needs to follow the rules. He sat our large party out in the open in a space that we didn't expect. It was loud, they only gave us 1 server and the food was just mediocre. We spent upwards of a few hundred dollars collectively. NO ONE used the community room space the entire time we were there which was from 1 -3 pm. We had trouble hearing each other talking bc of the loud music and also others talking out in the open. Nick was rude and seemed to be just asserting authority instead of trying to accommodate the customer. I'm very disappointed int he way this was handled. Our business was definitely lost as we'll be meeting quarterly with this same group and we won't be able to use the Goat. Also - I lived at the LC Gahanna for 6 years and frequented the Goat there so I understand a bit about the setup. I just think we weren't treated fairly or kindly and it's a shame. read more
