The Grain Cafe is an awesome vegan cafe that has come to Redondo Beach with excellent customer service and tons of gluten free options. At the beginning of Covid, they just had a few tables in front. On a recent visit, they have taken over three parking spaces to do a beautiful patio with astro-turf, umbrellas and planters. The staff here does a great job here managing service outside while they are doing prep work inside. They keep waters filled, plates cleared and food is delivered the hot. The menu is eclectic vegan with a Mexican slant. The best dishes at brunch involve "scrambles." We ordered the gluten free waffle with blackberry spread and the gluten free pancakes with butter and syrup. They were sort of soft and gummy - honestly a bit disappointing. The blackberry spread was outstanding! I would order the gluten free toast, which is among the best that I have ever had, and have them put the blackberry spread on that. The scrambles were so wonderful and the service so great that The Grain Cafe is five stars all the way. The tofu scramble is a great combination of tofu "eggs" sauteed with kale, onions, tempeh bacon, garlic and mushrooms as well as some zucchini. It is served with roasted sweet potato cubes and two pieces of the BEST gluten free toast. This was one of the most comforting dishes that you can imagine - it was a healthful version of a classic combination that satisfied while still feeling food about yourself. The chilaquiles were the best dish at the table - fresh tortilla chips in salsa roja with tofu scramble made with onions and zucchini and topped with a nut based crema and some nut based cheese. It looked and tasted like the real thing, but it was fresh and certainly lighter. We were so impressed that we ordered some of their fresh horchata and a gluten-free coconut blondie. Get that blondie warmed up - it was gooey and wonderful with oodles of coconut. The horchata was well prepared and had good quality cinnamon. I've always liked this place, full vegan and not filled with imitations for the entire menu. great tasting food (breakfast, lunch, & dinner) anytime. I went here for dinner this week and ordered a gluten-free veggie pizza and the strawberry almond cake. The pizza was just ok, a little soggy and it might be because of the crust. I had pizza here before and I remember it to be really good so I was a little disappointed that it was inconsistent. I might try other items next time. However, the strawberry almond cake was exceptional! I don't know what the ingredients were, but it was a very good cake with real strawberries. I'll probably come back to try other items on the menu, especially the dessert! Parking is easy, it's in a plaza with lots of spots. read more

I have been a fan of the Grain Cafe in Korea Town and always make that my regular stop. Well I happen to be visiting a Yoga studio across the street and decided to check this place out after. It's located in a non descriptive shopping center with a gluten free bakery a few doors down. Love the entrance with the community board and the dog water bowl is super inviting. What I love most about his concept which has locations in 4 or 5 different locations is that it reminds me so much of a homey breakfast and lunch kind of place with all those kinds of foods but it's all done vegan style. I love places like this that are easy going, don't rush you and you can hang out with friends or just enjoy time with yourself and enjoy both healthy foods and drinks. We need places like this in all city's of the US honestly. The menu is extensive and enormous. Usually I frown on menus with a lot of choices because they usually can't do everything great right. We all have seen that before. Since I have only scratched the surface I can't vouch for everything on the menu but damn everything I've tried here and at their other locations have been so spot on tasty. The other thing I love about this place is they are not afraid to add some spices to their dishes. I can't tell you how many veggie restaurants serve hot salsa with no taste of peppers, or call something spicy but your saying to yourself WTF. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of non spicy dishes on the menu here but at least they give you a choice and they also make some mean hot sauce here that is off the hook good to add to any dishes. Normally when I have come to this cafe my go to is the Chilaquiles. They make some of the best ones I have every had period. Well little did I know they have added a whole new menu of Oaxacan dishes to the menu and guess what they now have 5 different Chilaquiles dishes, one verde, one with Vegan Chorizo, another with Mole and Portobello Mushrooms, one called Molcajete which comes with a salsa made with a mortar and pestle. Talk about options I need to camp out some day to try all of these..wow. They also have Sopes, Molotes with is masa dough filled with Mexican goodies. I have been told these are vegan crack but they are deep fried so not one of the healthiest options so passed this time. They also make two versions of Tlayunda which is like a Mexican pizza on a large thin tortilla. Even with all of these specialties they still have a whole vegan breakfast menu with things like eggs and bacon bagel, Burritos, French Toast, Waffles, Veggie omelets and different Huevos dishes made with tofu scrambles. Talk about making it hard to choose NON ELITE TIP: I suggest bringing your dowsing pendulum to choose:) Got the Huevos a LA Mexicana with Rancheros sauce and a juice with my go to beet, carrot (go easy please) celery and ginger. This was a delicious plate of tofu eggs with veggies and spices with black beans and vegan cheese on top and came with chips, avocado, and two fresh corn tortillas. Make sure you ask for that yummy organic hot sauce. This was a winner dish. the tofu scrambled with the onions and bell peppers, jalapenos with that red chili sauce was super tasty. Wish I got more tortillas because I loved making tacos out of them. Talk about having fun with your food. Delicious stuff going on here. The juice was a bit lacking only because it had a lot of pulp in the drink which made it hard to finish. I suggest they get a filter to remove that stuff because it's hard to drink:( Juice was tasty though. Finally got to shout out to the very super staff at this location. Gave me great suggestions and was super prompt to refill water glasses and always had a smile on their face. They even give you a smiley on your bill which by the way was very reasonable considering the quality of the food here. Great place! First time at this location but equally delicious. I was thirsty so I forgot to take a picture of my go-to beverage, the Mint Lemonade. So refreshing and sweet! Get light ice if it's cold out. This chilaquiles is my new favorite item! Amazing flavors across the board. Nice portion. Can't complain about it at all. The grain is a cute lil cafe that offers all the breakfast classics, but also offers some Mexican classics like enchiladas, Chile relleno, wet burritos and more. Their breakfast burrito is 10/10 and good anytime of the day. They occasionally have pozole as soup of the day and sopes as a special, and when they do, run do not walk to get this delicious combo. (They are meat eater) my kids tried the "kids hot dog" (keep in mind their is no meat here) and they enjoyed the healthy hot dog, so I was happy to hear no complaints. I love that this area of Redondo is very vegan friendly. We initially tried the vegan place next door, but definitely had to come to the Grain Cafe for a breakfast bite! Per usual, when the entire menu is vegan, I have an issue deciding on what I want - as there are too many options when I'm use to limited ones. After menu perusal, I went with their breakfast burrito - it was the roasted potatoes that really solidified my decision. I also went with their house coffee - a brew that has a heavy cinnamon flavor. Our food came out and looked amazing. My friend went with the huevos con chorizo, and I was able to get a bite of her tofu scramble egg. yums. The burrito was so so good. It was packed with all sorts of goodness you want from a breakfast burrito: tofu egg, veggies, cheeze. I was in love. The roasted potatoes, however, were not my favorite. I am a potato-girl by design, so of course I ate every single potato nubbin', but they were just passable. Regardless, I'd be back for this burrito every morning if I lived in the area. Pro tip: add their homemade hot sauce for a nice bite! The coffee was good, and definitely perfect for cinnamon lovers. It tasted like the cinnamon was mixed in the ground coffee beans. Normally not one for creamer in coffee, I went with their coconut milk mixer, because, why not? It was unclear if their coffee came with a refill or not (it was just house drip coffee, but the server asked me if I wanted a medium or large size), so I just sipped on my single cup, but would have definitely went with a fill-up... if it wasn't an additional cost. The atmosphere of The Grain Cafe has the feel of Arizona (or Mexico). The walls are terracotta colored, with beautiful additions of Mexico/Arizona colors. It's definitely a spot where you can get all meals of the day, with lots of options for everyone. 100% amazing restaurant. Justin the server who helped us was very friendly, helpful and deserves a raise! I called in to make sure this place offer dine in and was open, sure enough they were. When I arrived with my wife and our friend, Justin checked our temperature. There was no one dining in when we got there, so no waiting in line. It took us a while to look at the menu, but after asking Justin a whole bunch of questions, again he was very friendly, helpful and patient with us we finally all decided what we wanted lol. (Took photos) I order the make your own plate; veggie of the day, specialty rice, marinated tofu, and roasted garlic aioli. Mine was okay, the rice was a little hard and grainy. I did like the roasted garlic aioli sauce. My wife got the torta with roasted potato and our friend got the tuna melt with mixed salad. They both really loved it and keep saying wow and how much they loved it! My wife also got the chocolate shake, but instead ask for them to use cocoa nibs instead, she loved this drink too. My friend got the ginger pineapple lemonade, she said it was too sweet and too much ginger. All and all I would come back again and recommend you who's reading this to try it out! I eat at the Grain in Redondo Beach frequently. The food is a hit or miss. Breakfast burrito? Delicious. Chilaquiles are great but they're always served slightly differently. Sometimes they're soggy, sometimes crispy. Overall I think they do a good job with their vast menu. Just don't order the pasta. The service is a different topic altogether. Sometimes it's friendly (Justin for example is great). Other times it's just plain unfriendly. I walked in today and greeted the waitress and she stared at me and said nothing. I understand it was busy and she might have been stressed. I sat myself as directed. Not once did she check in to see how I was doing, ask how the food was, if I need anything else. No response to any of my friendly "thank you's". As a former server I truly do not understand how these people function in restaurants like this. It's literally your job to make people feel welcome and it felt from the second I walked in to the end that I was a burden for her. Chilaquiles were ok today. Kinda soggy but at least the chips weren't stale as they have in the past. read more

I love organic cafes... And this place was so, so disappointing. I was greeted by the most unfriendly server. She didn't say a word, but motioned me toward a table. Upon checking the menu I was excited-- there seemed to be lots of great options. I ordered the Vegetarian Reuben. I've had this sandwich at various cafes and always enjoy it. I asked the server how it was and she gave me a nod of tacit recommendation. As soon as I saw the plate, it wasn't nearly as appetizing as I was hoping. No garnish; nothing appealing. The bread was light rye. It was very thin and bland. It was smoothed with tons of slimily cooked onions. The temphe had no flavor and wasn't the proper consistency. The dressing was also disappointing and didn't taste homemade. At least I had a (very small) side of breakfast potatoes. Well.. unfortunately, they were undercooked and under-seasoned. The server, Chloe, didn't bother to ask how I was doing, didn't ask how the food was, didn't say a word when she dropped the check. It is true when people say that just because one location of a brand is amazing, doesn't mean the it's other location can provide the same justice. I loved the Long Beach location, so when i stumbled across this location, while commuting to visit a Hermosa Beach, I'd thought I could check it out. First, let's begin with the customer service. I came around 7am to enjoy a good breakfast. There is only two customers inside, yet I had no one serve me until I stood at the counter, waiting for 7 minutes for wait staff to notice me. Then, waiter came, served me lukewarm water (usually the water is cold), and left. I knew what I wanted, (let me reiterate, I been to the Grain Cafe several times) but the waiter was no one to be found. After waiting for 10 minutes, I had to get up and wait by the counter again to find him. He came out and didn't apologize, then asked to take my order. I ordered. He jotted down. Then, hastily, left. Food comes 15 minutes later. Usually, whenever I go to the Grain Cafe in Long Beach, they have never charged me for blackberry jam, and have always provided it so it can be applied to the toast. I noticed when I ordered my tofu scramble, that there was no jam on the side. I notify the waiter, and he then scurries to the back and asked like three of his co-workers if he can get me some jam on the side. Five minutes past and comes back stating that, "if I want jam, it's $2 extra". I cut my loses and enjoyed my toast without it. Here are some pros: - The decor of the place is stunning. Truly provides earthy vibes and ethnic tones. I like how the lighting hits the the panels on the wall. Truly a nice touch. - The food was good but that jam though.... anyways, I decided to be a little adventurous and tried the Super Roll. One of the best rolls I have ever had! Overall, the place is not bad at all. I believe the customer service needs improvement. I understand that you have low foot traffic but at least use that to your benefit and treat your guest who attention and respect. I will recommend that you all try the Long Beach location though, they are spectacular! read more

Food is absolutely delicious! I chose the Wet Burrito that the waitress recommended as one of their most popular dishes but I'll be back to sample more for dinner and breakfast. The burrito was large and very filling and I got it with both the red and green sauces. I love Mexican food and finally I can enjoy a healthy option!
