I love this coffee shop! Sure, the drinks are overpriced, but it is worth it to splurge on high quality treats every once in a while. Their matcha and thai tea are some of the best I have ever had. Since it opened a few months ago, I've been wanting to try this place and finally had a chance to. I was hoping to get a garlic cream cheese bagel but was told they only offer it from Wed to Sunday. I opted for a butter croissant instead and you can get it warm up. For $5, it was a decent size, flakey and buttery. They had a standard menu but also the popular specialty drinks on the tablet. I decides on the Latte V which is two espresso shots, with whole milk, condensed milk topped with black sesame foam. This was the one drink that you cannot sub the milk on. I didn't taste the sweetness of the condensed milk or the black sesame foam (more like a regular cream). I can taste the espresso but not as strong as I like it to be. I've tried both their signature keep coffee drink and their foam matcha drinks and both were just ok and very expensive ($8 and $7 respectively). The keep coffee is the one with a huge thing of cream on the top and if you mix it the coffee flavor basically disappears into the cream. The foam matcha has less cream/foam but it still just tasted like ice cream that's matcha flavored. Plus it was $7 for a 12oz drink that was over 50% ice cubes - not worth it at all I finished it in 3 sips. I've also had the garlic bagel and while it was good their drinks are overpriced. We revisited The Keep Coffee after a few months to see how it's been doing. It was surprisingly busy, which was strange because our experience was just okay. Ordering went fine, but we noticed that the prices have already gone up since our first visit. Not sure how to feel about that. We decided to stand around to wait for our drinks, but after 10 or so minutes we decided to take the next available seats. The seats though, are a mix of styles now, with some new ones that you might find on a campground. It was obvious that they added those in a hurry. Many other people were sitting around waiting with their order buzzer as well. I started to think that Keep wasn't really popular, but instead filled with people just waiting for their drinks. We ended up waiting half an hour for our drinks, which is crazy. The drinks, again, lacked a special something. They looked like they would be delicious, but were on the bland side. The strange direction that they went with the decor, increased prices, super long wait for a coffee, and same bland taste warrant a lower rating. Parking here is a nightmare. This coffee cafe is located in an incredible busy mini business park with only 2 spots. There are multiple signs warning where not to park, including ones threatening towing if you're not a Keep Coffee customer -- yet ironically, there's almost nowhere for actual customers to park. Street parking is extremely limited, so be prepared for a walk. As for the cafe itself, it's average. The garlic cheese bagel was tasty, but not nearly good enough to justify the parking hassle. Here's the thing, I'm a big fan of cream top/einspanner lattes so I was excited that one in SD finally opened. I travel between LA, OC, and SD a lot so I've tried many places. I honestly wasn't very happy with this place. First of all, my Keep Thai Tea was $8!!!!! I did not change the milk, that is the flat price. 3 months ago, it was $6.5, which was reasonable. $7/7.25 would be okay too. But like girllll, Memory Look in LA doesn't even charge that much for their einspanners. It was actually insane. When you charge that much, you leave room for other competitors to come in and charge much less. I understand rent is expensive and they have a huge space, but so do many of the LA and OC cafes. Okay, price wasn't great, but what else. Parking in Convoy area is never great either. It's a small parking lot shared with other plazas. While it was expected, it doesn't help justify the price. Seating. Seating is plentiful, however I would not come here to study. Sure there are many seats, however, not many tables to do work. There were I think 3 tables total that you can actually place your laptop/books in without having to bend your back and/or have enough room for them. The seating decor was wild too. It looked like they got everything off Facebook marketplace. You have a random big table with vintage style wooden chairs, and then you have camping tables and chairs, and some random mid century/modern chairs and tables. Like what... The drinks. Like many said, it was mostly just the whip cream. Maybe about 50% of the drink. Like, if half the drink is going to be cream, you have no right to be charging $8 lol. We did also order the Summer. That one was a lot more reasonably priced. Yeah I probably won't be back. Considering I spend most of my time between LA, OC, and SD, I much rather go somewhere else for cream top lattes. It probably won't be long until another place starts serving einspanners and they'll likely be much more reasonably priced. read more

I ordered the matcha latte with oat milk and little sweetness from The Keep Coffee, visited on two different occasions. The first visit was slightly underwhelming. The matcha flavor was present and enjoyable, and the baristas accomplished the "less sweet" request well. However, the matcha flavor was not very bold, compared to many matcha lattes in Orange County and Los Angeles. Upon second arrival, perhaps they accidentally used vanilla sweetener rather than agave/ their typical sweetener, but there was a new vanilla-esque essence I did not previously taste. It was quite nice. This matcha latte with oat milk comes in at a price of $7 after tax. I tried both the Keep Matcha and the LaVie No. 2, both were relatively heavy drinks, which are not my preferred way of drinking matcha. The classic einspanner was sweet but still had a noticeable matcha flavor, which was good. The LaVie was a little too sweet for my liking, but I typically do not order lavender matchas, so I do not believe I can give an unbiased review on it. The ambience of this cafe is pleasant, with a vintage piano in the back that is a touch out of tune. They will give you a buzzer after you order, which goes off when your drink is ready. Was visiting SD and The Keep popped up in my feed as a new cafe I had to try. Parking was a little stressful - I came on a Sat early morning and most of the spots in front of cafe were reserved for other businesses so you might have to do a search. I love sweet, so I ended up ordering the Keep latte (similar to an Einspanner) with salted caramel syrup. I've seen others complain about the whip to espresso ratio... but I loved it? I am typically someone who likes cream foam on top of my drinks, so when I saw Keep Coffee's take the cream tops to the next level, I was intrigued. But in my opinion, the amount of cream is good in concept, but not in execution. It's too heavy, detracts from the drink, and gets old quickly. I think one of my mistakes was ordering the Keep Thai tea. The drink itself is already so sweet that the addition of the cream was way over the top. It was like drinking melted ice cream. I ended up not finishing my drink. The Keep latte is much better because the bitterness of the espresso helps balance out the sweet cream. I think this drink was actually enjoyable. One thing I noticed is that this cafe is still in its soft opening, but they raised prices rather significantly sometime in the last month (going by the menu photos on Yelp). The signature "Keep" drinks went from $6.50 to $8, and I feel as though the owners took advantage of the social media hype to hike up the cost unnecessarily. Worse still is that the Keep latte only comes with one shot of espresso instead of the standard 2, so my husband paid the extra for an extra shot, making his Keep Latte come out to $9 (more after tax). It was worth a one-time try, but ultimately think these drinks are an expensive gimmick. I did like the garlic cream cheese bread. This is a very common Korean style bread and it's sweet rather than savory, just so you know what to expect. Lastly, I also dislike the decor of the cafe.
