I came into The Mill because my sister recommended the Winter Spice Latte. Everywhere I go, I usually ask for a cappuccino-sized drink since I prefer less milk and a single shot of espresso. At first, the young barista at the counter told me they couldn't do that, so I asked to speak with a manager. The manager was very kind and accommodating, and even suggested I try it half sweet -- which I appreciated and agreed to, since she knew the drink better than I did. When I received my cappuccino, I unfortunately couldn't taste much of the winter spice flavor, so I asked if they could add more syrup. The same young barista responded with, "Next time just order a small latte." I told her I appreciated her suggestion, but I simply prefer a single-shot cappuccino. I really wish more baristas would listen to customers' preferences and be open to crafting drinks to their liking. Overall, it wasn't the most pleasant experience, though I'm grateful to the manager who took the time to help and show genuine customer care. read more

The peony iced tea was well steeped and had just the right notes -- and I say that as a tea snob. The teas here are really well done, kudos to their team. They also sell a ton of leaves and tea knick knacks here so feel at home at The Mill if you're a tea-lover like me. The espresso tonic was one of the best we've ever had, and we've been across SF and New York in search of outstanding espresso tonics. Just the right amount of flavor without being too sweet, too bitter, or too bubbly. Excellent and no notes. Family also got the matcha latte, and they said that the matcha was very smooth and not chalky, which is what you look for in a great matcha drink. Service was very chill and fast AF. This is a cute little shop with some good coffee and a yummy waffle. It is one of the more mellow coffee spots around which is nice. I haven't run into big crowds or waits here yet. There is not much indoor seating available so you need to be prepared to take your coffee and food to go unless you sit outside in their back patio or at the picnic tables in the driveway. The last time I was there, I noticed ants roaming on the picnic tables so that's a little rough when you are trying to eat. read more

Since it was our first time we didn't really know what to get and the employee at the register was super kind, giving us recommendations, and overall just giving great service. We ended up getting an iced matcha, and the chai (+a tea idk the name of). I think the matcha is decent it was lacking a little bit of flavor and the chai is super super strong and bitter. This is the roastery location, doesn't mean much if you are just getting a cup of coffee, but for coffee nerds it feels something special. Lots of beans and tea leaf for purchase. Such an adorable little coffee shop! I wish they had this here when I was going to Sacramento State, it is right by the CSUS walk way sign. Love this place! The tea lattes are good, and it's great they source their own matcha. The waffles are also freshly made and so delicious. They have a great crisp on the outside and are still fluffy inside. I didn't even need any of the syrup or jam because they are the perfect accompaniment to a latte on their own. After reviewing the flagship location of "The Mill" in Midtown Sacramento back in April 2018, I just had to check out their second (and newest) location which opened its doors back in early-2019. This takes me on a trip to the East Sacramento/CSUS corridor where I finally paid a visit to their smaller and more quaint location. Located directly on Elvas Ave. and tucked in between 64th & 65th St., this place can be easy to miss with the exception of the signage above the turquoise exterior building. My visit was during the morning of Saturday 7/24/2021 at 11:00am. Upon entry, I notice that this place is way smaller than the original yet still offers barstool seating inside. There is also an abundance of plants, a small amount of baked goods (only a waffle & granola to choose from as of July 2021), and for sale they offer ground coffee and a collection of teas. There is also a bathroom towards the back door that leads to the beautiful covered patio. Since I already have tried their other location, I was familiar with the drink menu selection. I decided to go with their "Iced Vanilla Bean Latte" (priced at $6.26) with a side order of their "Waffle In Hand" (priced at $4.50). This was a warm Belgian style waffle complete with powdered sugar and a side of maple syrup. Since it was not too busy during my visit, my waffle & latte were ready within just a few minutes. As I mentioned, this place has a nice little outdoor patio complete with live plants that give you that authentic outside feel to it. I even saw a small lizard that was perched one table away from me. As far as the taste of the vanilla latte, it was definitely on the sweeter side but nonetheless it was creamy and delicious. My waffle was warm, packed with flavor, and big enough to the point where it filled me up throughout the rest of the morning and most of the afternoon. Overall, "The Mill" in East Sacramento lives up to its expectations with prime location, a cozy quaint interior that is well-lit, close proximity to Sacramento State, accessible by foot, bike, or car, and excellent service. Not to mention, their prices are very reasonable on the food and drink items. With that said and done, I am giving The Mill a perfect five stars. read more

My friend introduced me to the iced espresso tonic at The Mill. Absolutely delicious and refreshing on a hot day. Would order again. Busy on the weekends. Place is very small with a few seats inside and a couple picnic tables outside. Small private parking lot located next to the end of the Sac State bike path. Decided to give this place a try after work, and it did not disappoint. I got their Hong Kong coffee tea, their Hong Kong iced tea, and a waffle. Prior to arriving I was hoping they had some toast with jam, but the waffle sufficed. The Hong Kong tea and coffee really had a tea flavor, so if your looking for more of a coffee flavor maybe pick something else. The waffle was a good size, good crunch, and had powdered sugar. This a great little coffee shop in an area which desperately needs one! It's located right down the street from sac state (so visit to fuel all your early morning classes or get through a late night study session). However, the parking situation is less than desirable as there is 2-3 spots in the private lot in the back. But don't let that dissuade you! The mill serves up high quality coffee and tea drinks. They use some pretty fancy teas (of which I cannot further speak on since I don't normally get tea) and freshly roasted bouquet coffee from just outside their storefront. I opted for a vanilla bean oatmilk latte which uses their housemade syrup. The espresso was smooth and syrup was only mildly sweet. I look forward to trying all the other flavors they offer! The price was a little steep ($8.50) with the up charges but I understand in today's economy using quality ingredients is pricey. Overall great spot, great service and fantastic coffee! read more

I've had good encounters with the other Mill location but I ordered an iced coffee at this one & quickly realized the milk was extremely spoiled. I politely asked if I could have a new one hoping that maybe just maybe it was off due to the new flavor I ordered but it was definitely the milk. They assured me they tasted the milk and that it was fine but I had a friend try it as well and they agreed it was pretty terrible tasting milk. read more

I have been wanting to try this place for the longest time! I was in the area this morning and was really craving some coffee. Upon entering the parking area I noticed it was a tight fit with about 4 spaces. Luckily, there was one space available. As I walked in there was only one person ahead of me and the time in there felt awkward LOL. The girl working seemed annoyed that the customer was talking to her... I ordered my items and they were ready pretty quick. I do have to say though, I don't think I will be coming back because I feel that my items lacked flavor. My waffle was very bland I think Jamba Juice waffles taste 100% better. The vanilla bean Latte, tasted watered down but yet very strong. Which was weird and it didn't even taste like it had oat milk in it. Lastly the Iced White Peony tea was OK it was very fresh which was good. I rate this place 7/10. read more
