The Pie generally has a way of turning an ordinary appetizer into something special. Not so last night with the bruschetta. Was expecting crispy bread covered with vine ripened tomato. Just moved out here 3 months ago with my fiancé and have been wanting to find a really good Italian spot. I just so happened to get recommended this place recently and decided on checking it out. We ordered two pies. A buffalo chicken pie and a margarita pie as well as an order of pasta. All of which came out fast and incredible. The service was also spot on. Every pie was great, but my favorite was the chicken pesto with bacon. My fiancé sister got chicken fingers with French fries and the chicken fingers here are 10/10. I would never order chicken fingers in a pizza/restaurant, but they were 1 of the best I had. Came here in the summer and what I love about port Jefferson is you can make a great day out of it. So I want to start off by saying that this restaurant was really fun and it went from Fancy to pizzeria to outdoor dining bliss. All the chitter chatter going around was really nice. All the laughter and everybody enjoying their time there. The food was so good. I stepped outside of my comfort zone and tried the watermelon and feta salad. It was absolutely phenomenal. I definitely cannot wait to make this at home. The pizza was so perfect as well. It was just enough for the both of us. The bad part. Our waitress was absolutely horrible. She forgot about us, she never checked on us, I literally had to wave somebody down after sitting there and waiting for 30 minutes to get our check. We were in the area and decided to check out this restaurant for dinner because the reviews all looked great. For an appetizer, we got the garlic bread. It came out in the shape of a mini pizza and had delicious thin crust. We also got a medium pie with half buffalo chicken and half chicken pesto. We were initially going to get 2 separate small pizzas, but our waitress suggested we get a medium with half and half instead. She was right because this was the perfect amount for 2 people. Came here a few times and while I enjoy the food and the authentic Neapolitan style pizza, I wish the price tag was a little friendlier. The pizzas run you around 20+ each and the pasta needs a lot of work. PIZZAS Thin, stretchy crust, chewy, stretchy cheese and a nice balance of flavors makes for quality Neapolitan style pies surprisingly authentic to what I experienced in my travels to Italy which can be hard to find, and is surprising for the area. I'm glad they're in port jeff. When it comes to Neapolitan pies simple is best imo. PASTA Have had their pasta a few times and since pasta is something that is relatively easier to cook at home what I really look for is pasta that tastes freshly made vs fried pasta that you can boil yourself. Unfortunately I did feel that the pasta tasted like the latter and doused heavily with oil, with toppings that were soggy (veggies) or dry (chicken) and for the price I def would have liked a better quality but at a place whose name is the pie shame on me for not sticking to the pies! Decided to take a drive out East and ended up in port Jeff. On the way we talked about getting some good pizza hopefully brick oven and when we saw this place we had to go in. Absolutely amazing lunch. The margarita was charred to perfection with a great undercarriage all throughout. The dough was light and crispy. The vegetable pasta was even better with all the veggies getting charred in the brick oven. If you like the taste like I do you will love it. Have been here at least a dozen times. Went for a late lunch with my daughter around 2:30. We ordered what we often have. I had unsweetened iced tea, my daughter just water. Both tasted like nasty tap water. We ordered calamari Arrabbiata. The sauce was weak with a funky flavor. Did not have the usual kick or taste. We also ordered a large Neopolitan pizza which ordinarily wonderful. This one looked great on top but the bottom was mostly black. Granted it is a coal fired pie but in my opinion he didn't clean the oven and we had the outcome. I understand we came at an off time but you need to do the right thing in a kitchen. Please note I was an executive Chef for thirty five years so I know a little bit about food. I'm writing this off to them having a bad day or the wrong person in the kitchen.
