Once upon a time, our small motley crew was recovering from a delightful night of chat and good spirits and needed a place to refuel. The Potholder (3) was the perfect venue. A bit of hair of the dog with the bacon Bloody Mary, their famous spuds, and stuffed French toast were cooked to perfection. Add to this the jovial staff and we have a winner! If I could sum this review up in one word it would be WOW!!!! I was in the Long Beach area today doing business and we wanted to try out a new eatery so we doubled back to The Potholder cafe. My brother n law ordered the Grand Prix and I ordered the J.R.'s flagship. Absolutely phenomenal food and some of the best breakfast I've had in a long time. Our server Sylvia is a sweet gem and knows the menu and how to direct you accordingly. They have a large menu with tons of options even for you plant eating folk. If you're in the LBC area and with relaxing ambience and you're in need of a great eatery you'd be foolish not to treat yourself to The Potholder cafe. Happy eating fam!! read more

A local Long Beach favorite for sure. This was my first time coming and enjoyed it thoroughly. Ambiance is friendly and the seats get filled up quickly. Getting here before 8a was the key in getting the booth to myself. Within 20 minutes indoors was filled up and the patio began to fill up too. This is going to be my go to breakfast place. Party of 8 on a Saturday Morning ?! Not a problem !! Sylvia hooked us up. She is an amazing waitress. So personable, kind and on top of it. The spicy blood Mary was delicious. Fresh squeezed orange juice, amazing. Grand Prix omelette, to die for. She even brought us shade because it was sunny outside where we were sitting. This is one of those favorite spots that you go back to. I came here around 10am on a Saturday. We were seated right away. I got a mimosa while I browsed their menu. The patty melt and California dip sandwich are always a good choice where you know it'll be good. The fries were crispy. The service was friendly and checked in on us often. read more

A Long Beach staple, this tasty breakfast/lunch spot hits all the home-cooked cravings. Bigger patio than indoor space, so dress appropriately for the weather and you'll get a table sooner if you're open to sitting outside. Not an incredible view on the patio, but it is pet friendly so there's plenty of adorable pooches to see. Staff is always friendly and are as attentive as the crowd allows them to be. (If it's super busy, you may need to wait a min for that refill but that's to be expected.) Now, the food. Yummers!!! I'm currently obsessed with their Veggie Spuds! Delicious potatoes mixed with all the veggies. Add bacon or an egg, if that's to your liking. Perfectly cooked potatoes, fresh veggies, and perfectly ripened avocado! I like it with a side of salsa. Alcoholic drinks left something to be desired. Micheladas and bloody Mary's were so bland and watered down. Back yard seating had either ton of shade or dependent on an umbrella...as brunch ride on, seat got too hot! Shade came hard to achieve without switching waitresses or asking the manager, of which he said it couldn't be done. Otherwise, a nice waitress, same good food for locals. Prefer the downtown location but this one is closer and downtown parking can be a pain to find. Will return but ask for shaded table! :) read more

I came here for my birthday, I was casually browsing brunch spots and my family and I decided this was the spot we wanted to go too. It's kinda of hidden but surprisingly busy. I went a second time and steered away from the peanut butter French toast which was I tried the first time, which weren't bad but I didn't get a hoorah this is amazing feeling. The second time I tried a more traditional breakfast with potatoes and eggs and basically the works and I was so excited that I found myself leaving this review from how delicious everything was! It s a little heavy on foot traffic but the staff is quick and attentive. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's definitely worth the price and the noise isn't too crazy as most likely you are to find yourself eating outdoors considering how small it is.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a nice environment and the menu is extensive you don't know where to begin.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Everything was amazing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only downside which isn't even that big a deal is that there's only 1 restroom for the staff and the customers. I came here to eat with my son, and service was just weird. The server had brought us the wrong food and before I can say it wasn't ours she walked off. I explain it wasn't what we ordered and she said oh I thought that's what you wanted. I said no and I tell her the correct order. So they fix it and bring my food and she doesn't come back again. Never to ask how's everything never to ask if I wanted a refill never offered anything else. I ask for the check, she drops it off and instead of explaining the correction she walks off again! I figure it out eventually and she comes back to explain but by then I'm just ready to pay. I'm a server myself and a simple check in on the table to see how everything is can enhance your service 10x more. You can over hear them as well to their regulars and the service is completely different. I left two stars cause the food itself was tasty and hot. read more

I've been a patron of this establishment for years. Sadly this location has continued to drop in the quality of their fare. Today I stopped for the super spuds(nine on a Monday) and was greeted with soggy and tepid potatoes. Literally a quarter at best of avocado wedges. The cheese on top was still in the shape of the "shredded" slices one purchased in the respective bag stating same. For the first time I was not only disappointed and truly thought of asking for another order to replace this in palatable offering(I know better what to expect if said option was taken). Eat the edges, sour cream, pittance of avocado and left the rest. Just a FYI to those who wish to breakfast at this location. Go with little or no expectation on the quality and you won't be disappointed. Not worth the wait one finds on the weekend. Only good point of the service/attentiveness of the server. read more

Great old school breakfast! Vinyl booths, yummy coffee and great breakfast food. I had 2 eggs, crisp bacon, sourdough toast and potatoes. Potatoes were crisp in outside, soft on inside - just the way I like them. Plentiful crispy bacon in my plate and the sourdough toast was light. My so had yummy banana nut French Toas my which he loved. Servers were friendly and checked back regularly. Parking lot was full, but it wrapped around building and we found parking on other side. There's a nice outdoor patio too. read more

We live in the area and finally decided to try The Potholder. I don't think we will return. We signed in in front and had to wait about 20 min on a weekday even though we could see open tables inside and on the patio. We sat on the patio with the hard metal chairs. The server was prompt but they seem to have been given inflexible directions. One of the party dines Glutten free. She asked for a couple of slices of Tomato instead of bread but the waitress said she would have to charge for a side order of Tomatoes. They do not have Glutten free bread or biscuits. The portions are large but but the prices reflect how much food you are getting. Two in the party had Omelettes and both had the opinion they were average. Perhaps more eggs instead of mostly added ingredients. read more

Was super excited to come here to the Potholder. Every time I drive by there seems to be a line. So, wife and i decided to give it a try for breakfast/brunch on a Saturday morning. We arrived about 1030am. Signed in, waited about 30 min, then we were seated. We sat in a pretty spacious patio out back. The place was running on all cylinders! First thing I notice is that service is tip top. Everyone was very efficient, pleasant and helpful. Second thing i notice is that even is very clean and organized. With limited space it's very helpful. And finally tho is an amazing space for families with little kids and open enough for strollers! However, one looming issue with my wife and i was the food. I don't know if this was just an off day, but besides the hash browns, everything we ordered seemed bland from the coffee ($3.25 with free refills), hot chocolate, mimosas (($10.95) and bloody Mary ($10.95)to the tall stack of banana nut pancakes. I placed an order for Maritime loco Moco ($13.45) to share with my daughter. Not sure how they make brown gravy but it underwhelmed and tasted like it came from a can or box. Eggs Florentine ($11.95) that my wife ordered were pretty decent, especially the hash browns. But the main part of the dish also underwhelmed. Hollandaise sauce was bland for me. And finally the tall stack of pancakes ($10.95) with banana nut ($1.95) cooked in. Portions was huge, which I ABSOLUTELY LOVE, but texture and flavor wise i bit chewy. Not sure if it was the nuts or walnuts cooked in that made it chewy, but my wife and forced ourselves to eat about 1/2 the order whole we just left the other half. There are definitely a number of other items on the menu that i would otherwise try. I don't know of I'd order the same things again. All in all, not sure what the hype here is. For me, service is excellent but food for me wasn't worth the price. However, come an try for yourself and see. Happy eating! read more

We moved into the area and were recommended to check out this location by a few of our new neighbors. It was a long wait on a Saturday morning for 3 of us, I think about 50 minutes. Service was fine but they only had outdoor seating which can suck cuz I sunburn so easily lol. The seats are also unusually small? I had to grab a different seat from another area that wasn't so tight. I saw a few other people do the same thing after I did. The food was really just ok. I didn't like my biscuit and gravy but the pancake was good. Hard to screw up a pancake though haha. Neither my wife nor her brother were particularly impressed. Maybe it's more of an alcoholic brunch type place? We didn't really get it either way. Maybe it was an off day... read more

Only waited about three minutes to be seated, sat outside. Really cute out there. Service was exquisite, food was awesome. The Maui scramble was 10/10. The oatmeal needed more brown sugar for me, because I'm crazy about my sweetness levels. But once sugar was added an 8. And that may only be because I grew up with my parents making various versions of homemade oatmeal and nothing will beat theirs. Overall you should try this place! read more

For whatever reason the kitchen sent out grilled CHOPPED GREEN ONIONS instead of the standard yellow or Spanish onions - which was unexpected and way to small a serving. But it's ALL GOOD! read more

P3 is terrific. The staff is wonderful and the food is creative and well made. The only negative is the fact that I paid $2 for avocado on my son's chilaquiles and they were slivers (see photo.) I cannot comment on the chilaquiles, aside from the avocado, as I'm not a chorizo fan and my review of that dish would be unfair. This dish was accompanied by Potholder's amazing breakfast Potatoes (yes, they deserve to be capitalized.) The Salinas omelet was delicious. The concoction of artichoke heart, tomato, and mushrooms is inspired. None of the ingredients overpowered the others and the eggs were cooked perfectly; thin, yet not dry. The dish was also accompanied by the Potatoes, which are addictive, and a side of toast. I chose sourdough and was pleased with the fact that they actually put butter on the bread. You may be surprised by my mentioning this, but most places just brush a nearly dry knife over the bread and count it good. Super Spuds: a dish comprised totally of the Potatoes topped with Cheese, Avocado, Sour Cream, and Mushrooms. It's heaven on a plate. We also had a side of bacon because, bacon. Theirs is cooked very well: slightly chewy, slightly crisp. I'm not sure how they get this alchemical balance, but it makes for some deliciousness. read more

My son who is a LB local suggested this restaurant for breakfast. It's his & gf's favorite spot & so glad he did! Hubby had "Tim's Dug Out" (Super Spuds with Steak, 1 Egg ABC Omelette and 1 Stuffed French Toast) with avocado & I chose the chorizo & egg scramble with flour tortillas (added 1 pancake cause I was craving them). OMG!! Everything was PERFECT! Fresh, tasty & oh so good! I love trying new local (non chain restaurants). Next time we visit the kid, we'll be back & probably treat him to breakfast. read more

We got there around 9:30 am and we were seated right away. The servers are nice and the order came fast. I had the loco moco and my gf had the t-byrd? Loco Moco - the gravy was good. The rice was nice and fluffy, the egg was cooked well but the only problem is the patty was soooo bland. It was really really bland i had to put salt in my food. Like a lot of it. When the sandwich came out it looked rather disappointing. The biscuit itself is small, probably the size of a Pillsbury dough biscuit, and the chicken wasn't much bigger. nothing else on it like a green, coleslaw, sauce, etc. just these two items. However, it did come with a side of a honey butter. the side of fruit was about 8 pieces split between pineapple, melon, and grapes. the whole sandwich was dry, which can be expected from a biscuit, but this was just too dry for me. the yogurt bowl($8) came in a small bowl that had a large flaring, basically the entire dish was large but the bowl portion was small. I eat yogurt everyday and the amount you get is probably half the size of a standard serving of yogurt (170g) and it was sparsely sprinkled with granola. my partner ordered a chorizo burrito ($15) and while she raved about the flavor the size of it was laughable, especially considering there are plenty of spots in LB that serve double or even triple the size of this burrito at or near the same price lastly, and the most disappointing of all, was the cinnamon roll($8). they were on display at the register and figured yeah I want one of those and instead of giving it to me right then and there it was brought with the rest of the food but it was not warmed up, which made me question why I waited for it. It was rool temp, burnt, and hard. I do want to try other items but the price you pay for what you get, especially considering this experience I had, is off putting.

(This dish was supposed to have a duck base, but this was not cooked properly) not only was I simply turned off by this dish, there was nobody by to help or even get it to go box. But quite honestly, I just left the food which is so sad. Left over pasta is always so good but I really could not continue eating this as I truly did not enjoy the taste. I left hungry and sadly disappointed.

When I fold the pizza in half it made that sweet crunchy sound that only real pizza lovers know. The taste was delicious, good blend of pepperoni, mushroom and cheese. Of course someone wanted to try dessert too in the end. Put this on your list folks, a must try.

Amazing experience at Potholder Cafe! We came in with a big group and couldn't have asked for a better experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly accommodating, making sure we were comfortably seated and even going out of their way to ensure we had shade. Our waiter, Richard, was absolutely awesome! Friendly, attentive, and on top of everything, he made the whole visit feel smooth and enjoyable. And the food? Delicious. Every dish came out hot, fresh, and full of flavor. You can tell they care about what they're serving. Big groups aren't always easy, but the Potholder team handled everything like pros. Instead, the deli sandwich was replaced with another breakfast sandwich -- which was actually the less expensive item. My son has autism and is extremely limited with foods he will eat, so this wasn't a minor inconvenience. He ended up without the lunch he was expecting because he will often refuse unfamiliar foods altogether. What upset me even more was the response when I called the next day to explain the issue. Instead of asking questions (the woman gave me a statement TWICE expecting an explanation--please understand the difference between a question and a statement) apologizing, or trying to help resolve the problem, the employee repeatedly responded with: "So you had a breakfast sandwich and it wasn't the right one." It felt dismissive and uninterested, as though the situation was being minimized instead of addressed professionally. I understand mistakes happen in restaurants. (I work in 2 restaurants- one in Seal Beach and one in Long Beach) What matters is how customers are treated afterward. A simple apology, clarification, or attempt to make it right would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, the customer. service I experienced made the situation much worse. It was a $10 dollar loss but a lifetime of a returning customer. I never write reviews- this was absolutely necessary on principle alone. Also- your sourdough bagel was undercooked and disgusting on my Desi.
