I came here last night with my bf for date night and we had a really nice time. I had the steak salad which was delicious but the steak portion is not huge so if you're really hungry, probably want to get the steak of their entree menu. Came here when staying with one of my friends in the Buena Park area, and it was one of the top pops on Yelp. Honestly just thought we were going to get an average experience when we headed there. However, this place really felt more like a River North "fancier" place but still very affordable. My friend and I split the Lamb Burger (super flavorful and unique) and the pulled pork sandwich (honestly just average, could use more slaw on it). One of my friends got the tuna tartare as well, and it was good, but I would suggest that more as an appetizer for its size. read more

One of my favorite neighborhood watering holes! Reservoir has a classier feel than all the other local bars and still has great deals! Bottomless mimosas, who can say no to that? We went here last Sunday for brunch and to watch football. We started with the buffalo wings which were very tasty! I built my own burger (hint: get the pulled pork on top) with a side of reservoir fries. I have yet to have a dish here that I did not like. Love having this place so close! read more

First time here today, food was good but two stars for social distancing and hygiene. The person who looked like the manager was walking around with his mask around his neck most of the time and I saw him handing a takeout order to someone like that. Holy, Sh&%, how did I not know this place existed in my hood, Uptown?! Well, apparently it's been around since 2012. What a find! And here it goes: The Reservoir is a bar tucked in the shadow's of the Jewel-Osco and World Gym on Montrose. Upon walking up after a friend suggested we meet there - I must say, I had low expectations - since of course, I hadn't heard of this place until about 30 minutes before. When I opened the door, I was immediately impressed. Lively, comfy and cozy - and if it hadn't been raining the big front windows open too. The place was hopping, some good 90's music on and attentive service. They have some killer drink and food specials. I happened to go on a Wednesday, and lucky me - it was 50% off wine night! Two bottles of Malbec - check! I had the Steak Sandwich Au Poir.... and it was cooked perfectly and tasted excellent. My friend had one of the flat breads, that looked equally delicious. I'm already plotting a return visit, and happy to see another good bar with great food in my neighborhood. Spread the word about this place! read more

The chicken wings were not cooked all the way through. The chef came and gave us a lesson on enzymes (basically an excuse) on why there was pigment and/or blood on the so called "cooked" wings. I have my pictures to show the truth. No type of refund or any other service offered for the wings not being cooked all the way through. The chef is a great chef but he doesn't know how to fry wings. YUM. My husband and I moved to Uptown in September and this place opened almost right after we got here. My husband used to live in Uptown and said this was a much-needed addition to the neighborhood, which I can see. I'm not saying I don't like the bars and restaurants in Uptown now, but this place really is a nice, neighborhood watering hole. People in Buena Park and Clarendon Park can walk here, which is super nice and convenient. I love that there's a bar a few blocks from my house. The interior is classy and nicely furnished. Dark wood, clean lines, long bar with comfy chairs. Ample seating and room for groups, if that's your thing. The first time we came here, we sat at the bar to watch a Michigan Football game, which they were more than happy to oblige. This is a good place to bring a group of friends for a football game and enjoy some nice brews. The beer menu is huge, so be prepared. They have a nice, rotating tap selection (but they run out of seasonal beers quickly) and a ton of bottles. The prices could be a bit lower, but I won't complain too much. The food menu isn't huge, but everything on it is super tasty. If you're a first timer, get the Reservoir Frites with the garlic aioli on the side. THEY ARE EXCELLENT. I also recommend the beet salad and mac and cheese, both are super tasty. Love this place. I'm really glad it has settled itself in Uptown so we can all hang out here. read more

After an excellent lunch at Purple Pig I was excited to try this place after reading the great reviews. I ordered the fish n chips with tartar sauce and malt viengar. Unfortunately the tartar sauce is actually chiplote mayo , I asked again can we get tartat sauce amd was told that's it. Ughh this is an essential condiment they need to figure out The fish was definitely out of a box from a supermarket and cooked from frozen. So disappointing after such good reviews. The fries were your bob standard hard fries that no one finished. Also ordered the lamb burger. How this get such a high acclaim is be beyond me. For a Friday night the place was half empty so I guess this its struggling. Whatever the weather I am sad I used up one of my precious evenings on such poor quality food. read more

I like this place. More like 3.75 stars though. Dim, industrial, chill. The flat screens throw it off a bit, but, I get it. Almost didn't get the calamari because of another review, but I got it anyway. Didn't disappoint. Portion size was a tad small, but certainly enough for two people with average stomachs. I mean, it IS an appetizer. In any case, the calamari was lightly fried, a plus, came with a solid cocktail sauce and....mayo. What? Yeah, threw me off. Whatever, it was still good. Split a steak sandwich and reservoir fries. The fries were tossed with truffle oil - awesome. The steak was a little rare, but that's the chance you take when you order medium rare. Still a good sandwich, I like how they halved it and served it in two plates with separate mountains of fries, but the first thing out of my mouth was "I can make this". The thumb down is beer related. I'm a huge fan of Belgian strong pales, especially Kwak. When I saw it on the beer list, I got excited. But for 11 bucks they can do way better than an 11oz bottle. This place really is a gem tucked into this nice little Uptown neighborhood. I love the atmosphere and aura it radiates. The dim lighting is always a plus for romantic dates. They have a great number of beers for a beer lover like myself and the food is top notch! I had the steak which was done with the perfect medium that I would expect and my fiancé had the Mediterranean Chicken Salad which I tried and thought was phenomenal. Coming from a guy who only eats meat and potatoes that means a lot! But to be honest with you, the main reason I am writing this review was for the way we were treated by our server named Miles. I have never met a more enthusiastic, attentive and entertaining server in my life. His service was the cherry on top that will keep us coming back for more. My boyfriend and I wanted to try a new bar one night and ended up here. The look of the place was nice & cozy. It is definitely a few notches higher than a dive bar, so if that's what you are looking for this place is not for you. There is a bar and a regular "dining" area. The food menu is pretty small, which can be expected from a new bar/lounge. The cocktail & wine menu was not that extensive either but certainly had some decent choices on it. Their beer list is what actually made an impression on me. They have a good quantity of imported bottled and drafted beers. As a huge fan of imported beer that pretty much made my day! Unfortunately I was starting to get sick so I couldn't try as many varieties as I wanted, which only means I will be back soon for a do over!! P.S. If you are a huge import fanatic like me, make sure to check out their glass coolers located on the other side of the bar. You may just see an imported beer that's not on the menu & from personal experience they will be more than happy to sell it to you :). read more

This place is a gem, and it's exactly what this area needs. I've been to the Reservoir for dinner three times now, and I haven't been disappointed in any dishes I've had there. Appetizers of note include the ceviche, which is just outstanding, and the buffalo wings, which are done really well. As far as entrees go, the mac and cheese is probably going to draw a lot of folks' eyes, and for good reason. In a city with lots of really good macaroni and cheese, The Reservoir's stands out in a good way. The flat breads, too, are especially good - I particularly love the asparagus and mushroom one, and I really cringe when people ask if I'll share. Of course, the beer selection is also wonderful and the service is great. I've just learned they have brunch, so I'm excited to try that too! read more

The Reservoir is a neighborhood gem in an otherwise desolate Uptown neighborhood. While it can be a bit hard to find and out of the way (especially in the middle of Winter), it's absolutely worth the trip, especially if you live in the neighborhood. The sandwich I had was excellent. For the life of me, I cannot remember the specific menu name, but it was Mexican spiced pork on Texas Toast with roasted vegetables and way too many french fries. One of the best sandwiches I've ever had, and I've had plenty. There's also a top-notch beer selection. The prices were definitely affordable and service at the bar was excellent. The fifth star comes for how impeccably clean this establishment is. You can tell the management, ownership, and staff actually care, becuase I couldn't even find a speck of dust, spill, or any unfavorable mess in here. Also, the environment is much more classy than you'd expect to find at sports bars, especially one in this area! If you're ever in Uptown, head here - you won't be disappointed. I had a great experience last time for brunch, but I was pretty disappointed today unfortunately. My husband and I came here bc I told him I had a great time with my friend. This time, things did not go smoothly to say the least. I think they may have been really understaffed bc there was no host and it took ten minutes for anyone to seat us. All the servers were running around and seemed stressed. Everyone was nice, but it was just hard to track anyone down. After we ordered, the wrong dish got delivered to our table and they left it there while they figured out whose it was. The food was pretty good, but my husband said the hollandaise sauce was broken on his po boy and it was super drippy. We didn't say anything to the server bc everyone already seemed very overwhelmed. For our 2nd anniversary dinner, we wanted to go somewhere that had good food, good cocktails, and at a reasonable price - we weren't disappointed by Reservoir! A few overall highlights: the menu isn't huge but has a really nice variety of options. The atmosphere was romantic and chic without being too snooty. They seemed to have a good variety of beer to choose from, and the cocktail list was different and alluring. The prices are pretty decent, and a regular couple doing a standard dinner could easily dine there for around $50 or less. It being a special occasion for us we splurged a little and ordered more than we normally would, so we spent a bit more. A few specifics: we had the steak yakitori appetizer and were really surprised at the wonderful flavors and how tender it was. It also came with an asian flavored slaw that was crisp and refreshing. We then split the bruschetta flatbread, which was a true flatbread - really thin and really crispy. Perfect for what it was (and also big enough to split). We finally split a burger, for which you can add items ala-cart. Burger was seasoned well and very juice, but what stole the show were the Reservoir Fries - parmesan white truffle fries. We were full but kept eating them they were so good. I would highly recommend the Reservoir Fries. For cocktails we had the Khan, which was really delicious, and a Mexican Standoff, which was also good. Their cocktails were different than a lot of other places I'd been, which was refreshing, I just wish there were maybe just two or three more to choose from. Came in with friends on a Saturday night. Place was pretty empty. Menu was varied with lots of options. Great unique appetizers. Cocktail list was small but beer list seemed expansive. We had the lamb burger, which was good but a little spicier than expected. Truffle fries were a highlight. Mac n cheese was good but nothing that special. Cinnamon old fashioned is a must try. In all it was a good night and a nice option. I wish there were more cocktail options. We will probably be back because it is convenient but it didn't blow us away. read more

Excellent beer list, and I'm happy there's a place like this in the neighborhood. However, my primary complaint is noise. The music, which was pretty bland, was on too loud to have a conversation without yelling. This was true both times I visited. That would be fine if it weren't a sit-down table service place. There seems to be some confusion about the purpose: is it a sports bar? a restaurant? is it for families? for groups that want to have a chat over a beer? or for folks who want to rock out on a Friday night? Too many things happening at once. Lower the volume on the music and this might help. Until then, the chaotic environment is a bit much for frequent returns. I'd also like to add, the owner (I believe that's who he is) seems to have a thing with touching the guests. Not in a sexual way, but both times I visited someone remarked on how odd it was that staff would touch the guests. On my first visit this happened twice. The second time it was my girlfriend. Here is my breakdown of this neighborhood gem, although it has only been open a month I have already stopped in a dozen times! Lots of seating in main area with booth or table options. Gorgeous furnishings and very comfortable open atmosphere. When weather permits they open a garage door window that brings an outdoor feel and inviting charm. Food & Beverage: I have only tried a few of the items (flat beard & calamari, both were superb), but from speaking to fellow patrons Ive been told the burgers are amazing! The Brunch menu also offers unique & savory options. Crab cakes benedict paired with bottomless mimosas, HEAVEN! As for the drinks, the draft choices had me at hello... Plenty of great beer choices & seems they are adding a variety of speciality drinks. Prices on both are very reasonable & the staff makes sure that you leave happy. Customer Service: Knowledgable & attentive staff. Very friendly group that makes you feel wanted, even with a very busy dinner crowd it feels like a place that flows well creating a very comfy feel. This place has a downtown appeal with a staff that makes you feel at home, just as any neighborhood place should. The Reservoir is sure to flourish. The chicken avocado sandwich was okay, but not great the fries made up for the sandwich. Prices have recently gone up by ~20% from listed online on their website and here on Yelp. First, I'd like to start off saying that No one on yelp reviews should deduct or add more than 1 star based on service. Clearly, service is subject to change depending on your waitress/hostess and people use yelp predominately to find good food, not great service. That said, The Reservoir qualifies for a 1 star deduction for service. Our waitress attempted to take our orders without writing them down as if we'd be impressed. She ended up forgetting our calamari and our asparagus. Note to waitstaff and manager--just write down my order. You will make less mistakes and make the customer more confident. On to the food, it was good and reasonably priced. The three of us ordered burgers with dip fries. I was slightly jealous of my friends au poivre burger, mainly because it's bun, which appeared to be sourdough, was far superior in integrity than the whitebreaded uptown burger. The beef was okay but nothing worth bragging about--likely low quality 80/20 chuck that was non grassfed or organic. All in all, burgers were good for $10. The calamari that was delivered late was also mediocre, but that's what you would expect for the price and place. The only critique would for them not to be so stingy with the dipping sauce. The atmosphere was great for a casual watching of a football game or casual date with a girl. Don't go here to impress a female or male and don't go here to pound light beers. The beer list is pretty extensive--there is a decent amount of craft brews for a novice to experiment or a beer snob to be satisfied. Was in here on a Sunday evening for dinner, some drinks, and football. By neighborhood standards it was plenty busy even with no Bears game. The bartender, I believe his name was Nick, was very efficient and very knowledgeable. The room is dark wood, nicely dim lighting, and comfortable bar stools and booths. The food was very good. The chicken wings come in a sweet sauce that isn't my particular ideal, but was certainly well seasoned, and the chicken wings themselves were some of the meatiest and best prepared I've had in Chicago. Chicken Club sandwich was made on above average bread and was a fine dinner. Not overwhelmingly load, even with a good crowd, and 2 good football games on, so definitely a spot to seek out when looking to have some good conversation over some very good drinks. Beer list was good, cocktail options looked really tempting. Service from host to bartender to busser was uniformly very good. Considering their neighborhood has only 1 or 2 spots remotely comparable, bet they'll end up being perennially packed. Never would have given any restaurant a shot on this particular Uptown block, but in the early going, have to like this place's chances to do really well, and really take good care of customers for years to come. read more

Not a food review (although the menu looked great). Just loved the bar! It's got a slightly more upscale feel than some of the bars in the area. I mean, you can certainly get away with a hoody here, but if you felt like putting on your fav super-expensive-highest-quality Forever21 dress...you can do that too. The Beef Yakitori was amazing - perfect amount of salty and sweet in the sesame sauce on it. The bed of slaw it sat on felt like an after thought - they should turn this into a salad, honestly. My Flat Iron salad was delicious - good flavors and diversity in the ingredients. My friend's club sandwich was really good for a standard club sandwich. This is my closest neighborhood bar, and normally I enjoyed their food and service but last night I stopped in after a long work travel week for a couple of beers and food to go and had the most horrible experience ive ever had. A regular of their's "John" did not approve of my having a conversation on the phone so he called me a c^nt, multiple times. Bartender and manager instead of kicking him out and sticking up for women, because i genuinely felt threatened, just asked him to "stop it." He moved to sit by me, so was right next to me at the bar calling me this. Make of this what you will, but I will not be visiting this local establishment anymore, as a woman, i do not feel safe. Never knew we could not take phone calls at a bar, as a working professional that travels for a living, I'm completely disturbed by the whole event. I'm always going to restaurants and bars alone and have never had a similar experience in any of the 40 states I've been to - extremely disappointed it was at my local favorite. read more

Anyone who can make salads taste good deserves at least four stars! Get the Mediterranean salad with chicken and you won't be disappointed. I usually hate my foods drowned in sauce/dressing, so I was hesitant when I forgot to ask for m dressing on the side, but was pleasantly surprised to find just the right amount. Service was okay, we weren't really checked on too often throughout our visit which is a bit sad considering the place wasn't busy at all. Good addition to a hood with limited options, the upscale bar theme works well. Service is attentive and orders from the bar and kitchen arrive timely. They also must have some of the cleanest bar bathrooms in Chicago. Though half of the beers I ordered in their menu were already sold out. The fries that accompanied my burger were stale and cold - should've opted for a side salad instead. Yet my burger was fantastic and my GF's Mac n cheese truly decadent. Just fix your menu and treat your fries as they aren't from McDonalds and I'll mark up more stars. read more
