I ordered: 1) Blue Bae Cocktail 2) Cajun Fries 3) Lobster Roll 4) Crab Roll I've tried several different Lobster Rolls over the years and there are only 3 that I've had that have moved me and The Boil's Lobster Roll has hit the title of #3 on my short list. The perfectly cooked tenderness of the Lobster left me speechless. The seasoning according to my Ratatouille tastebuds tastes like the Chef seasons the Lobster with their famous boil seasoning. This same seasoning flavors the Crab Roll as well. Both Rolls are full to the brim with the seasoned seafood I mean full!!! I can't believe how tender that Lobster actually was...definitely my favorite. The fries were tasty stand alone dish as well...they seem hand cut. CASH ONLY I've been to the other two locations so I know that this place is cash only, but they do not have a sign up on the door yet for this location. Also it might be helpful to have an additional little closed door area out front since it's winter and it's freezing every time anyone opens the door and you're seated behind the hostess area. The temperature inside the restaurant also does not compensate for the chilly temperature (it feels like they have it set to 68 degrees inside) OVERALL GOOD but the chrystie st location is still my fave out of the 3 locations. Granted, they just opened this location and need to iron out the kinks. Me and my boyfriend split a King Combo (1lb king crab, 1lb crawfish that was substituted with shrimp) and 1lb of snow crab both in spicy Boil special sauce. My only weird complaint is that the shrimps were huge so you don't get as many shrimps haha. The combo also comes with 1 corn and 4 chunks of potato. SAUCE WAS A LITTLE WATERED DOWN in one of the bags, prob due to not draining the seafood completely before adding it into the sauce. Also shoutout to the bus boy that had our table. He was the real MVP of the night. Always kept coming around to ask if we were okay and gave extra gloves when I took one of mine off to take a picture of the food. If you're reading this review, you deserve the majority of the tip!! We came around 8:30pm on a Friday evening without reservation and got seated right away. The service was decent, no complaints there. Also something to note is they automatically add a 20% gratuity. The Soft Shell Crab Basket was pretty disappointing, the soft shell crab wasn't crispy and was just ok, and the fries were very mediocre. We also got the gumbo which was pretty small, a small cup sized but it tasted good. The seafood boil we got was much better than the appetizers, we got 1 lb of shrimp and the Queen's combo ( 1CL Snow Crab + 1lb Crawfish). The seasoning was yummy, very buttery (I think it was more buttery compared to Just BeClaws which is down the street). The potatoes and corn were delicious with the sauce as well. Come Again? What a better way to end a trip to Jersey than to indulge in some superb seafood at the Boil! Upon walking in, I was instantly won over by the high ceilings, cute buoys on the walls, and the booth style seating. There are also tables out in the open but the booths were enclosures perfect for social distancing in the age of Covid. I felt so safe dining within the cave of my booth. As an added bonus, buckets, plastic bibs, and plastic gloves were provided so we could enjoy our meal without worrying about making a mess on our clothes. I shared the soft shell crab basket and 1 lb of snow crab legs with my boyfriend. The soft shell crab basket is only 1 fried crab atop a bed of french fries but the crab was so delicious that I don't regret getting it. We ordered our Snow Crab legs with mild garlic butter. There was so much sauce so I kept dunking the meat into it , probably causing my cholesterol to double from that one meal. Each pound of seafood comes with corn on the cob and potato wedges, so you can somewhat balance out this cholesterol laden meal. Health concerns aside, the sauce was addictive, and the snow crab legs were fresh. The Boil definitely delivers quality seafood with a side of fun and ambiance. It almost felt like food was sitting for a long time when we got it. This was consistent throughout all our food. For boil, they provided gloves. I thought it was a good creative solution. Most boil places get your hand dirty and smelly but gloves made things lot more manageable. Street parking but it wasn't too bad around there. Also 90 min time limit (which is usually plenty of time). Oh and they also charge automatic 20% tip. This was bit odd and I don't like restaurants doing this but the place is popular enough I guess. No matter how isolated I have to be, I'm going to have delicious food if it's accessible to me especially in celebration. It's the apocalypse after all, might as well live in gluttony?! A good friend treated me to delivery and naturally, I ordered snowcrab legs, shrimp, extra corn, softshell crab all with the boil sauce at medium spicy. The options are true to a Cajun crab boil, the sauce was busy with garlic as a dominating flavor all rounded by the kick of old bay and spices. When I have energy I make a strong decadent boil of my own and and their sauce comes pretty close to outstanding! The snow crablegs were perfectly steamed and fresh. The shrimp was flavorful and juicy with the heads on. I'm not one to eat without shells or heads as all the flavor packs itself with the entire protein. Bang for my buck, etc. etc. The softshell crab was crispy, prepared with the savory coating that didn't overwhelm the taste of the delicate crab. Included was accompaniments -- a great way to cut through the thick unctuous densely packed sauce and aioli with a lighter vinegar based pucker-worthy cabbage slaw. The fries were good and still crisp even from delivery. What a prize is that? The only downfall is the garlic bread, which is overpriced for cheap hamburger buns. If there could be more quality in the bread with a great italian loaf or Texas toast, that would be more toothsome and satisfying. When you walk in, they take your temperature and write down a contact info per COVID regulations. Then you have the option to sit either outside, inside by the windows or their booths. It was a bit windy so we went for the booth option which was super cute and isolated so you can definitely say we were social distanced from the other customers. We ordered a pina colada and passion fruit marg - both exceeded our expectations and very on point to their names. We tried the strawberry marg didn't hit the same though. *Food* Oysters - they came at a good size (larger than the oysters we ate in a different restaurant in Manhattan, they were much smaller and expensive). Queen Combo - we ordered the crab and crawfish with theBoil special sauce since I never had crawfish so thought I'd give it a try. Nothing wrong with the crawfish! I think I just prefer shrimp haha. First, I want to state this is not a reflection or review of the staff, which are cheerful, efficient and very accomodating, just not empowered at all. I blame this on management. Having a competitor to JustBeClaws was a welcome event, more choice, and hopefully one would (just my opinion) stand out. Burger sliders were good (my son says), Soft Shell Crabs which you really must eat on premises and if takeaway, very good once you put it under the broiler for a couple of minutes to re-crisp. And 2 pounds of King Crab legs. My wife gets acid reflux and can't eat very spicy items so we divided the order into two. This is where problems start. Apparently, when you order two separate 1LB bags, you will not receive the corn and potatoes even if the order is for the same person. This is absolutely ridiculous, especially when it's 2 x $47 = $94 order and you won't throw in $2 worth of corn and potato. This, by itself is unacceptable. Then I call and it was explained (hey, The Boil: Your Policy sucks) and even if it was not explained in the order, this is fine. I really wanted corn and some potato, so i called for the 3rd time, by which the nice lady on the phone already knows who I am. We drive over, I go close to the counter and maintain distance. After a couple of minutes the Security man asks what I needed and replied takeaway. He says "ok. After two more minutes, he instructs me to go up the counter and inform the staff that I was waiting for pickup. wtf? Okay, maybe this is not in his job description and food is none of his business, but why ask me then not relay the info to his colleagues? Fine. The nice lady in the counter brings the $8 potato and corn sides, and was nice enough to add another order of corn (3Pcs). I give her $20 and say the rest is gratuity, and she insists to give me back change which is very very professional. In this environment we are all living in, and as a businessman myself, I understand the plight of the service industry, having have dozens of friends in the trade. I make every opportunity to express gratitude financially. So, workers in The Boil, thank you so much for providing this service. The Boil Management? Where do I even begin?! OH MY GOD. I had been wanting to try The Boil since it opened and finally got the chance a few months back and it exceeded all expectations. First off - their outdoor seating is phenomenal and super private which drew me in from the beginning. (I didn't realize until the food came out how grateful I would be for that privacy ) The hostess was extremely thorough with temperature checks and makes sure to make you aware of all covid precautions before entering. They have a wide selection of fun cocktails and beers but let's get to the food. WOW. Is all I can say. I have been back three times now and each time the food has been absolutely amazing. The crab cake sliders and catfish sliders are to die for and the Cajun fries are a must. The seafood is soooo fresh - you can just tell the quality is exceptional. Ordered two orders of clams which were very flavorful but more like an appetizer than an entree. It came with a piece of corn and small red potatoes for approximately $45 dollars. Also ordered garlic bread which was not worth it and when it got home were very soggy/mushy. Ordered through uber eats but picked it up at the restaurant and I didn't not enjoy the long wait almost an hour for simple clams but hey at least they were fresh. Rude and unorganized employees. I rather order from justbeclaws who's employees (most) are happy to be there or at least work for their tip. Had to show ID and a credit card for an order that was paid for on the app which made no sense since I had the order conformation on my phone from uber eats. Security guard/bouncer is ready to tackle anyone just for asking a question. read more
