Came here with a family of seven. They had very nice service and accommodated our family in a back room. The food was good. The trio of dips along with the chips was excellent. The tacos that we all had we're good (Fish & Steak). BLTT was excellent and everyone loved the fries. Prices are about what you would expect in Santa Fe. There is an option for indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating looks over the plaza which is nice where people watching. read more

Two outdoor patio areas both with a view of the park and all of the passersby in Santa Fe. From the upstairs patio I had a view The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi n the mountains. I highly recommend The Heat burger, which may just be the best burger Ive ever had. Guacamole, pepper jack, and green chiles..nough said. If you get a table on the second floor balcony, consider that the best part of your visit, because you won't be impressed by the drinks or the food. If you opt for a margarita, go with the house offering: at about half the price of the specialty versions, it's a much better value--and it tasted better. The appetizer we ordered, the trio dips with chips, tasted as if it as poured out of jars. The queso was orange and gloppy; the guacamole was too green for its own good and devoid of any avocado chunks; and the salsa had in it a very soggy shard of tortilla chip (see photo). And the chips tasted stale. My house salad with jumbo shrimp was fine. My husband's tostada appeared to have been sitting around for a while and his green chile pork stew was flavorless and tepid. And the spoon? See for yourself. I cannot recommend. Sorry. Our server was very nice; I felt bad for him having to work here. Note: Other patrons here on the upper balcony were very vocal about the management's seemingly idiosyncratic application of a policy (?) for seating people at the outer rail closer to the street. And while we were here, several parties were seated and then left prior to ordering. Not sure why, but still -- one notices. This was easily the worst $70+ we spent in Santa Fe. The potential is never met. The house margarita $7 is weak in flavor and kick. If they take care of their base marg, you know the rest can be worth the upcharge. I'm this case, I'm not going to reorder to find out. The Chips Three Was with guacamole, salsa and queso is a good choice. Hard to describe what's better but it's tied between the green and yellow. Perfect to split with a friend as you contemplate walking across the street to the packed patio of Marble Brewery for better beverages. To say the service is lacking would give the impression there was service. Sure, I was seated by a hostess, a women poured my water and let me know who my server would be and he did show after about 5 minutes to take my simple order. Not too much time later, my bevi was as dry as the high desert air and no offer for a refill even though he passed me several times in in 15 minute period. It was it until the chips basket was empty that he paused to ask how I was doing. No one seems to want to be here. Including me. There are TVs inside at the brightly lit bar with natural light flowing in from the large windows. So this could be a decent place to watch sports and I would hope with a bartender in front of you most of the time, the service would be better. Not that I'm going to try and find out. I came here for my 21st birthday to enjoy time with my family from out of town the "manager" / bartender clarissa was really rude about the whole thing. When we tried to move from the bar to the balcony to get some air and the "manager" clarissa again proceeded to tell us she needed to keep her eye on us because of Cinco de Mayo. This was our first stop on our Margarita Trail. The balcony was full so we sat at the bar. It was 2pm on Monday, April 22, 2024 and we were the only guests inside. The bartender was not friendly at all! She acted like it was a chore to wait on us! The margarita was $18 and served in a martini glass! It was ok but not worth the cost, barely 6 ounces. She didn't bring us water and disappeared so we couldn't ask for any.We almost gave up on the margarita trail because of this experience. IF YOU DONT LIKE TOURISTS AND DONT WANT TO WAIT ON THEM GET ANOTHER JOB. Later we went to several other places to get our margaritas and they were all very good with friendly staff. We ordered beef tacos and they were tasty but the meat was tough. I don't think we will go back to this place, too many other places to eat and drink in Santa Fe. read more

Thunderbird resides where the Ore House, for decades, was a fixture of the plaza. But how many yet remember the brief period in 2011/2012 when this space was occupied by a restaurant called Balconies? Aye, we are getting old now. I've had food and drinks at Thunderbird, and both were agreeable. The simple fact that they offer pitchers sets this bar apart from so many in the downtown area. $14 for a pitcher of Coors Light is affordable, and $20 for a pitcher of local craft beer is reasonable. Service can be slow at the bar regardless of how busy the place is, and unless you project the image of a big-tipper (IE, tourist family), expect as much no matter where you sit. The enclosed balcony is heated and makes for a nice place to watch the plaza, even if the view's not great through the plastic windows. If I'm out with friends, I like splitting an order of nachos. Loaded with jalapenos, cheese, meat, beans and guacamole, the serving size is adequate for sharing between two or three people. This establishment tries to bridge the bar scene of Boxcar with the tradition of fine dining downtown, and the compromise comes up a little short. There's nothing wrong with it, but nothing outstanding either. Just drink your beer, eat your nachos, and afterwards head to Low 'n' Slow. read more

Located in a touristy part of Santa Fe and I went with a group of people that I am doing training with. Parking is street or public parking area so will have to pay to park unless off hours. The first time I went (Sunday) we found parking easy and we were able to sit out on the "porch" which is covered parking on the second floor overlooking the town square. They have a great selection of draught beer (+1) and a full bar. We had chips and salsa and beer the first night and nothing to write home about; typical Mexican snack. The second night there was 8 of us and we went there about 7 PM and had no wait. We were not able to sit out on the porch because the tables (all high top) only sit 2 or 4. They have a dining area and a dining/bar area with high tops and tables along with a pretty good size bar with a number of TVs. What gives this a 4+ is the food and service. Even though it was a Mexican restaurant, we were surprised with the quality and presentation of the food ordered. I had the "hangover" burger with fries and it was very good. Others had real dinners and the quantity and quality was great. I think the pictures I added were for steak burritos or enchiladas or both but everyone really enjoyed the meal. Prices were reasonable but not cheap. I have to give this a 4+ and would definitely go again and suggest try it if you are in town. read more

How ever there is one little boy who works the patio host counter that is argumentative and extremely rude, he ruined our expierence, and let his fellow crew members down...as a restaurant owner I would never employ such a person. Ugh. This outdoor seating. We are here right now and it is hot. Too hot under the heater. I'm sweating. There is an empty table near the windows and the guy wouldn't allow us to sit there initially even though I told him I felt like I was getting a sunburn at under the heat. He told me he would turn it off. I told him that the server already told me she would turn it off. I then saw him turn it off. Finally they allowed us to move. They also have a downstairs patio that is completely empty. If they have outdoor seating, why can't we or anyone else sit there? read more

This was the second stop on a phenomenal Santa Fe food tour. It's right on the square in the heart of the city but we entered thru the employee's entrance and rode up on the elevator with the chef! We were able to pass through the kitchen area which was a special treat for me after spending many years as a culinary educator! Our table was nestled in the back of the restaurant under a lovely wall display of Native American masks. We were treated to two delicious and unique southwest influenced soups, one just a bit spicier than the other. Both were complex with notes that excited the entire spectrum of the palate. Our excellent leader's personality and interaction with all the staff made us feel like insiders in the brief time we were there enjoying the fare. Marjan and I stopped for a beverage after walking the streets, visiting shops in Santa Fe. Thunderbird is found bordering the Plaza Square, on the second floor of a retail. Veranda outdoor seating allows a bird's eye view of the Plaza and all activity happening there. Marjan ordered a house specialty: The smoky angel...a smoked mixed drink with tequila base. She considered it too smoky...just ok. I ordered Thunderbird's version of an old fashioned, it seemingly mixed with soda or tonic water, (put your reading eyes back in your head...you read that correctly...mixed with tonic or soda) over multiple cubes of ice. This offering was different....and definitely not delicious. Being a devotee of whiskey and of the traditional old fashioned, I considered this concoction a rather felonious act. Would we recommend this establishment? Yes, for the location, seating on the veranda. But stick with a brewsky, or a more traditional drink. We didn't sample offerings on the food menu. read more

This is a fun spot for a meal on a nice day. We enjoyed a nice lunch on the patio overlooking the Plaza. We started by splitting a Frito Pie appetizer. This was huge for an appetizer and could definitely be a meal for one person. The taste was amazing and everything tasted very fresh. For my entree I enjoyed Green Chile Mac N' Cheese. I loved the flavor of the mac n' cheese and there was plenty of green chile in the dish. My favorite part was the breadcrumbs on the top. A Sunday trip to Santa Fe to walk about and look at the wares. Instead of hitting our usual food outlets we decided to try something new. Enter Thunderbird Bar and Grille. Located on the 2nd floor of a dated building. But, don't let the outward appearances fool you. The restaurant is modern and clean. It had just opened for the day so there wasn't a crowd and we got seated right away. Drinks ordered and now time to peruse the menus. The Mole Enchiladas and Thunderbird Enchiladas. The mole was a overly sweet- not bad but too sweet for me. The T-bird enchiladas came with Christmas chile sauce. The rice and beans were average. Not good not bad. The calabcitas was surprisingly good. I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered it. The meal was ok, nothing special. We were pretty much ignored by our server throughout the meal I thought that by sitting near the kitchen my drink glass would stay full and the server would be more attentive. Not the case. Oh well. There are a lot of good places to eat in SF. This doesn't make the cut. read more

I visited this restaurant during a very busy tourist season, where the restaurant was completely packed. Even with a full restaurant the service was very pleasant. Our waitress was super sweet, and she also came around multiple times to check up on us and to let us know our food would be out shortly. The only downsides of the restaurant would be the relatively small menu, and a lack of flavours in some of their menu items. For example their green chilly sauce was lacking flavour, as well as their pinto beans. If you are in the area, and are looking for a nice sit down restaurant with a heated patio and great service, I would definitely check this place out. read more

I have been to this restaurant several times before. The service and food were decent. Yesterday was a completely different story. First time ever sitting at the bar with friends and the whole place was about 50% capacity. When we sat down, the bartender immediately told us "the bar is on hold" and said he may get to us in a few minutes. It was obvious the single bartender was making drinks for the tables but the on hold part was weird. He finally got to us about 15 min later. After he brought our drinks, my wife got there and sat down. The bartender never came over and asked what she wanted to drink, nor could we get his attention away from the other end of the bar. We finally finished our drinks and left. I do not recommend going here for drinks at the bar, the service was terrible. read more

Every time I spend the day in Santa Fe, I always stop here for drinks and appetizers. Their nachos are amazing! They are perfect for splitting with 2-3 people while having drinks. Speaking of drinks, they have a huge drink menu and tequila list. My favorite margarita from here is the jalapeño margarita. I also love the view sitting up stairs on the patio. The restaurant has a gorgeous view of the center of the plaza. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5, is because the service was quite slow. We came for drinks and an appetizer and were a bit disappointed. We ordered a daiquiri and a mojito and they were both very lackluster. My son ordered their house cheeseburger and it was fine. He also got some ice cream for dessert. The ice cream tastes like it have been in the freezer for a long time. It had a lot of ice in it. We went to Thunderbird Bar & Gril because it was on the Santa Fe Margarita trail and it was a restaurant we had never been to before, so we thought we would try something new. It is located on the second level of a building on the SW corner of the square. We arrived at 4:30 and got a seat on the balcony overlooking the square. The view here is very nice and they keep it heated, very well, during the winter months. It was 28 degrees out and we were toasty on the patio. The margarita you have to order for the Margarita Trail is The Paparita which Patron Anejo, Grand Marnier, Fresh Lime Juice, Agave Nectar and sells for $17.00. It was a good margarita featuring Patron Anejo, but I do not know that there was anything special about it other than the use of expensive alcohol. We also ordered the Trio of Dips and Chips which included salsa, Guacamole and Queso served with tortilla chips. On the menu, it claims that everything including the salsa and chips is house-made, but I did not taste it in either the salsa or the chips. The salsa really tasted like it was from a jar. The guacamole was tasty and I liked it. I am not a fan of queso in the first place so I am a biased judge when it comes to melted American cheese. This sold for $12.95. Since we were not ordering dinner our waitress was less than enthused to wait on our table and hardly interacted with us at all and never cracked a smile. So for one drink and a mediocre appetizer, tax and tip we had spent $35.39 for a great view of the plaza. read more
