A great local diner in Glendale. There are multiple Toasted Bun locations around LA but I have only been to this Glendale location. It's a traditional retro-style diner so it's a great option for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. My favorite diner meal is breakfast so we decided to stop in for our first time this Saturday morning for breakfast and had a great meal. There is medium-sized free parking lot attached next to the restaurant otherwise it will be street parking. Our server was very polite and all of our food items came out extremely fast. It was under 10 minutes after ordering that we got our food. Inside is quite large and divided into a few rows of booth seating. They have a fairly large menu so it was hard to choose what I wanted to order. I started with a coffee which I recommend because it's strong and tasty here. For my meal I chose the Chilaquiles Verdes with Carne Asada and thought it was honestly great. The Carne Asada was especially good and seasoned and the portion size was very healthy. We also ordered Eggs and Pancakes and the eggs were terrific as well as the pancakes. The food tastes great and the pricing is fair so I would suggest to anyone searching for a solid breakfast option in Glendale.

I was waiting for my car getting serviced by the Toyota dealership and looked for a place to grab some coffee. I looked at the reviews and saw "corn pancakes". I got intrigued and ordered it with eggs and bacon. The corn pancakes are a must! It does have a good flavor and bits of corn and delicious with the butter. The eggs and bacon were alright but the pancakes are the star of the show. The place did give diners vibes and I find the decor with cute pastel colors. Service was pretty attentive especially with the coffee refills, which kept flowing. I'd go back!

Diners are as familiar as the language we speak and comfortable we eat. Every American love American diners, including me. This might not the best Diner in Glendale, but baby boomers seeking the comfort & nostalgia of their youth. The family owned biz since 1962. Typical retro all-inclusive range of patrons; actors, streetcar motormen, milkmen, policemen, white wings, left wings, businessmen, probably hipster & counter culture - all these and more run elbows at its counter. ( don't worry narcissistic people won't show up. They are too dumb to stalkings and talk others behind the back in their tiny places. Only good vibe patrons here ) Service is slow as retro style. But hey, remember this is West coast. Chill ! My charming breakfast with Mr LA was delightful. We will stand by the right, the true, live, die for the red, white and blue. Happy 4th.

I stopped in this morning after dropping my car off at the Honda dealership down the street for some TLC. It's a couple of blocks away and must really enjoy a loyal following, or they wouldn't still have been around since 1963. Being the first one in a diner is a treat! Especially one that really harkens back to a simpler, more cozy time. The modest room is filled with plush booths all around and a nice long counter, as should be in a classic diner. Everything was neat and clean. I'd suggest some new flooring near the kitchen as it looks like some of the planks are going their own way. The waiter was kind and brought me a menu right away. And good thing, the place started to fill up quickly. The next couple in the door asked if they could sit on the patio, and at first the waiter said they were not doing the patio service this morning since he was all alone. But then he said that they could but asked them to please understand if service was a little slower out there as the main room was going to get busy. They agreed. The menu is large. Not Cheesecake Factory large, but certainly more than enough for all tastes, including a healthy selection of breakfast burritos, huevos rancheros, and the like. I ordered a little bit of everything in a standard American breakfast. I had originally planned to just sit here waiting for my car service to be completed, so the massive order seemed to be the perfect accompaniment. Two eggs, two slices of bacon, a Belgian waffle, and breakfast potatoes. And, of course, a cup of coffee. Everything was really delicious! Seriously! Coffee and all. Every single bite was unique and perfectly prepared. The coffee was awesome. The potatoes are prepared with a little red bell pepper and onion, just like I would have done at home. And the waffle was sublime. If I had one request, I would have preferred real maple syrup. But that's me. I could tell by how the waiter was speaking with a number of customers that these were some of his regulars. If I lived in the area, I'd make this my haunt. I truly recommend Toasted Bun. There's too much here not to get your share of it. And I can't wait to go again and have company to share the experience. (available on Grubhub and DoorDash) Bon Appétit!

What a gem! This neighborhood diner feels like I'm coming to my grandmother's house. People know each other. They have good conversation. The food is delicious and served withcare. Peter, my waiter, was gracious and kind. This is your neighborhood place!

Was waiting for an oil chance at the dealership next door so popped over for breakfast. Exactly what you want from a diner. The house made biscuit was great, hash browns were crispy.

Quiet and chill cafe with outdoor and indoor seating available. Toasted Bun gives the "old school retro diner" vibes, which is great. Menu offers a lot of variety breakfast/brunch, lunch, and dinner items. We came here on a Sunday morning and there was plenty of seating available. Both the service and food were good. Your choice of eggs style, hash browns or breakfast potatoes, or fruit when ordering the breakfast combos. Food arrived 15 minutes after ordering, which was pretty fast considering we ordered 7 different items.

Great place to catch breakfast or lunch while your waiting 5 HOURS to get a oil change at Star Ford. Basic Cafe fare. A little bonus: Star Ford will give you a $2 Toasted Bun coupon to use for your meal purchase. I guess that makes the 5 hour wait WAY worthwhile! Thanks Star!

Retro diner style spot with bottomless coffee and delicious French toast! Came in looking for a hot breakfast whilst waiting on car maintenance down the street and I am so glad I did!! My food was fantastic as well as the service and ambiance! Very chill and cozy - great vibes! I got coffee and a French toast combo (my usual at diners). Portions are huge, over easy eggs were perfectly cooked, hash browns lightly toasted and tasty, and the French toast was flawless!! Very soft and creamy on the inside and lightly crisp on the outside - perfection! Coffee is good too. Menu is extensive and prices are wonderful! My server was attentive and friendly. The other patrons were chatting and laughing with some local cops and the server - overall just a cozy neighborhood vibe here - it was great! The location is convenient too - right in the middle of a bunch of car dealerships. Lots of street parking available and there's also a private lot in back I think. Now that the Alhambra Mazda closed down, I'll be over here anytime for maintenance and I'll definitely be eating here again!

Been hitting this place (and its predecessor in the same location pre-COVID) and have watched as their motivated team get better and better at service, food and restaurant style with every visit. The reason for existence level items here are their breakfast menu items like the fluffy corn pancakes, which are kind of like a corn bread Angel food cake, hard to master at home but perfected here; every combination of every American and/or Mexican breakfast item with abundant vegan options; and a dining experience without the boisterous atmosphere of the usual IHOP/Dennys brekkie mobs. Airy but patio umbrella shaded big open patio in back (dog friendly) and plenty of parking in the lot and unmetered street. Lunch and dinner e we come by on occasion, but breakfast is a standard yes for TTB these days.

Came here after visiting the Autry Western museum. They make my favorite sandwich! The Monte Christo! It was delicious and very generously filled!!! I also added a side salad that was fresh and a perfect side. The waitress there was so kind and accommodating. Constantly refilling our glasses! I will definitely come back here when i'm in the area!!! read more

Back in the day pre-Yelp and long before that, I was a fan of the Toasted Bun in its original Glendale location on Glendale Ave. for its inexpensive simple diner-type food and the chance to chill with the considerably older crowd. It was the kind of neighborhood hangout where you had older female waitresses (when they were still called that) who called you "hun" and at times knew you by name (I wasn't a regular enough). They had been closed for many years and was surprised to hear from a friend that they reopened at a new location which I believed was another former diner spot along Glendale's "Brand Blvd. Of Cars". Would this return visit to a reimagined favorite be a welcomed experience!? PURCHASE Toasted Bun Omelet w/Breakfast Potatoes & Sourdough Toast ($11.95): Their namesake specialty omelet made with avocado, bacon, cheese, and mushrooms, it was a fluffy packed meal perfect for any time of day. The bacon amount was especially notable as you cut into the egg pocket and released hot steam. Of course, I lathered the top with Tapatio! Once settled in, they made admirable attempts to check on us and fill any beverage cups but somehow always managed to not fill one particular coffee cup. Ultimately, it was time to leave, needed some to-go containers, and of course pay which all went smoothly. Generally speaking, all was fine. PARKING (Varied; FREE this instance) They allocated a sliver portion of their private lot while the rest was used for outside dining during the days of COVID-19. Otherwise, there were plenty of metered and timed spots along the main drag of Brand Blvd. and all surrounding side streets - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE During these COVID-19 times, the entire restaurant was off-limits to all patrons except the bathrooms. However, they utilized their somewhat spacious parking lot to set up an outdoor patio filled with many wooden picnic benches and tables, many umbrella coverings, and a handful of outdoor heaters. Obviously, there was plenty of natural lighting, but I didn't notice what the electric lighting situation - if any - there was. There were no TVs or background music except for the whizzing street traffic and patron chatter. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL It was nice to reacquaint myself with Toasted Bun after all these years and would be interested in returning to sample more of their somewhat vast menu. The food was fine but nothing to clamor over (personally, I loved making omelets at home and crammed them with all sorts of ingredients!). The prices were comparable to other breakfast/diner establishments, and the service was what it was. Plus, it's always a pleasure to support a mom & pop small business. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $18.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). I ordered their breakfast sandwich which originally comes on sourdough and subbed it for a biscuit. I was supposed to get a choice of meat in the sandwich. I was never asked. And when the sandwich came the biscuit was hard and stale almost as if it were microwaved. The sandwich came with ham. read more

Do not try to go to the Toasted Bun Coffee on Brand Blvd in Glendale and think you will be seated comfortably Peter, the Manager, would rather lose you as a customer than try to accommodate. We were there this morning for breakfast, 4 people, including my pregnant daughter. After they instructed us to choose a table, they told us we could not be seated at a specific booth because it was meant for 5 or 6 people, we had no choice but to leave the place. I was waiting for my car to get an oil change and haven't had breakfast yet so this place was the closest. Server was nice but honestly the food was not good at all. Pancakes were burnt on the bottom, the breakfast potatoes tasted super old and they were nasty additional charge. The sausage link were the smallest links i've ever seen. Eggs didn't taste like scrambled eggs. Wasn't pleased and it was $20. Will not be coming again unfortunately read more

Covid & non related: This is always our go too even back at it's original location. The food and service is always excellent and the daily special are just that special. It's always a lovely feeling when you go in as a family and they already know your drink choice. The location itself is dated as far as the decor and I always find it funny they do actually have a bar here to the side and the one bathroom but it's what it is. Like most establishments they have made this location covid friendly with a large patio dining area, I hope they take the opportunity If they can financially to redo some things indoors (second bathroom) still this very much a family diner home style feeling. I look forward to being able to dine back indoors and hope too see my familiar smiling staff again read more

Service is horrible, ordered a bagel sandwich and they gave it to me on sourdough. When I told them it was supposed to be on a bagel, the server said they were all out of bagels??? Could they have told me before they made it? I would have ordered something else. Then I get the stare of death from the server because I asked a question. There were customers seated at the next table and overheard a lady say the ketchup in the bottle looked off. Well she opened it and exploded onto my food and my new Uggs. The server saw it happened and didn't come to help clean. I had to grab napkins from the other tables to clean it up myself. Server just stared at me while I was cleaning. The food was just ok. Nothing fabulous where I would rave and tell all my friends and family that they had to try their food. Didn't eat much of the food because there was ketchup all over it so I went to go pay the bill because I wanted to just get out of there. Then, the Credit card machine and Apple Pay wasn't working so I had to walk down the street to get cash. The cashier started ringing me up and he said, "you got a bagel sandwich." I told him I didn't because they were out of bagels. He took off 25% off my bill. I'm not a jerk so I still tipped from the amount of the full bill but I won't be going to this place again. read more

Service January 1st awful we waited over and hour for food. I had my mom waiting for food and fainting. I understand it's the first but I always say beyond comprehension of being busy PLEASE BE CARING ans also know your capability, you can't with so many people SAY IT. I was meeting a friend for lunch who lives in Glendale, so I asked her what she recommended. She chose here. I ordered the Monte Cristo, but it was just weird. Who serves a Monte Cristo with thousand-island dressing?? Also, they had no raspberry jam, only strawberry, in little packets on the table. TB owners: the Monte Cristo sandwich is always served with raspberry jam and confectioners sugar on top. ALWAYS. Offer your ridiculous preparation as an option, but to not have those here is just wrong. All I could really taste was the fried-ness of something that is basically a flavor bomb in your mouth (well, it's supposed to be). I'm not really into the whole "diner" mystique, so this place just left me cold. I'm not sure what I should have ordered instead. From the other awful reviews, it sounds like whatever I chose would have been equally bad. read more

TIP: if the outside temp is going to be above 90 eat as far to the left of the restaurant as you can as AC coverage is night and hot sweltering day. Do this and you should have a good meal. The food and service was pretty good for us but the killer part today was the poor, poor, poor AC where we sat on a day with temps pushing 100. All the ice tea refills in the world could not mitigate the heat. Parking is is front and to the side lot. My other tip is to look for parking/ parking lot off Brand. read more

Where do I begin? They are only accepting cash only. The waitress Luz not very friendly and not paying attention. I specifically ask for a breakfast white egg with sausage sandwich and she gave me bacon instead of sausage. I'm ready for giving so I'm like OK whatever I'm just gonna eat this then she gives me a check for about $19 and then right when I put the cash she says I'm sorry I gave you the wrong receipt. Give me another receipt for $24. I'm like. Wtf as I'm leaving she comes and tells me she forgot to charge me coffee and then you need to pay for it so let's just say I gave her five dollars and I told her to give me back the one dollar she didn't give me the $1 I guess she needs it more than me, but I wanted to send her a message that her waitress skills or less to be desired and the food was OK. My sandwich had 1 inch height of egg white and two scrawny pieces of bacon.. I highly recommend that you consider other options than to come to this place. Also, they could use a little improvements of the appearance of the inside and the floors I noticed are all buckled up so they really need to do some TLC. The ambience is less to be desired. read more

I've been coming here for years. Started back when the location was up in California and Glendale here I'm Glendale. This is pretty much a solid go to place for lunch and breakfast. Nothing super fancy and the prices are pretty decent. With the millennial hipster boom that came to Glendale when the apartments all when up, came a plethora of highly expensive and not so good cafes. Here you'll find decent food for s decent price. They also have a decent vegan and Mexican inspired selection. Service is above par and always friendly. Tried the feta omelet the last time and wasn't disappointed. Spinach, tomato and feta in a fluffy omelette with hash browns for about $11. A firm 4:5 simply because it was a little watery from the spinach and tomato. read more

"B" grade on their health inspection. Sus Friendly enough staff They served me food with allergens which had no mention of these components on the menu. I took a bite before I realized it. Server was pleasant about it I guess. The food that came out the second time was rushed and poorly made and by that time I was worried about an allergic reaction and I was over it all. I ate maybe 1/10th of it and said I was done. Server brought me a check which was discounted by half. As I was going to the register to pay the check I said " I don't think you should be charging me for this food. You served me food with things I'm allergic to that weren't on the menu." She said, " nope I already gave you half is nothing I can do." I could've just walked out but I know what this industry is like so I paid the check and left a 25% tip and left. Morally they should be issuing a refund. Otherwise I'll never come back and won't be likely to recommend to anyone that I work with in the area , oh well read more

This used to be one of my favorite spots when it was called Eat Well. I continued going when it changed to Toasted Bun because it initially had the same taste and quality. Unfortunately, the past couple times I've visited the food was burnt - hash browns, toast and pancakes. Most recently I had my Vitamin C in a coffee cup mixed with water when the waitress came and poured coffee in the cup without asking me. The whole Vitamin C packet wasted. Lastly, it was during a heat wave and they had the back door open and what felt like no AC. My waiter was nice and accommodating though. Parking: came here on a weekend and there was plenty of free street parking and a lot right next door. Service: service is really attentive here and constantly checking on tables. Ambience: we sat outside and it was super spacious and nicely covered from the sun. Great breeze and big plus is this place is dog friendly!! They even brought over water for him. Food: we had the biscuits and gravy which was so good, avocado toast, egg florentine and plain patty for our doggo. Large portions here! Good food and always enjoyed coming here but just had an experience where we were charged prices higher than what is on the menu. When I went to complain they pulled up another menu that had the higher prices. At the same we pulled up their online order form which had the lower price. Either they are pulling really shady pricing practices or simply are massively overcharging the value of their food. read more

My family recently took my grandmother to Hill Street Cafe for her birthday brunch, and…read moreunfortunately it turned into a terrible experience. The food was mediocre, the service was nothing special, and despite that, my aunt still left what she felt was a fair tip. Our bill was about $58, and she left an $8 tip (around 14%), even though the service certainly didn't warrant more. What happened next is completely unacceptable. When she checked her credit card statement, she discovered that the tip had been changed after the fact, and instead of being charged around $66, her card was charged over $83. That means the restaurant added roughly $25 in gratuity on a $58 bill, or about a 43% tip without authorization. Altering a customer's tip after they've signed the receipt is a serious matter. We immediately tried contacting the restaurant. They answered the first call, but after the issue was raised, they stopped responding entirely and have ignored every attempt to resolve it. Mistakes can happen. Ignoring a customer after they're trying to address what appears to be an unauthorized charge is what makes this so concerning. Between the average food, mediocre service, and an experience that left us disputing our credit card charge after celebrating my grandmother's birthday, I cannot recommend this restaurant. Check your receipts and your credit card statements carefully if you decide to dine here.

I ordered their patty melt, hoping for a classic, satisfying dish, but what I received was a lackluster version with limp bread, a subpar three-cheese blend, and raw onions that overpowered the other flavors. The hamburger patty tasted like a bland, unseasoned mass-produced filler, lacking the smoky flavor of a well-grilled patty. I was not alone in my disappointment. Reading other reviews on Yelp, it seems like many other customers have encountered the same problems with the quality of the ingredients and the lack of attention to detail in the dishes. It's a shame because the atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasant enough, with modern decor and friendly staff. I did have their breakfast as well, and while it's hard to mess up breakfast, I still hesitate to recommend it after my experience with the patty melt. It's clear that Toasted Bun needs to focus on improving the quality of their ingredients and attention to detail in their dishes if they want to live up to their potential. Overall, I cannot recommend Toasted Bun based on my experience. While it's possible that they may improve in the future, for now, there are better dining options in the area. read more

I went today with my husband to celebrate our Valentine's Day. we sat down and we were brought our coffees. After 15 minutes had passed we still hadn't received our menus. Then two gentlemen came in and sat down. With in 2 minutes a server brought them their menus. this is the second time they did some bullshit of this kind. I too work in the fast food Industry. Customers and workers alike have to be treated with respect. If they dont respect their customers then why work in customet service. If your not happy with ur job find something new but for FUCK SAKE don't ignore people. I really hope the owners read this and realize what kind of workers they have have. if the workers are the owners kids then fuck ur kids don't care about ur place of earning read more

I have ordered from this restaurant multiple times through door dash and there is always something wrong with my order. The last 2 times, I would call in and make sure the order was correct. The first time, I spoke to a gentleman and he was very nice and helped make sure my order was done right. This last time that I called in today to make sure my order was correct, the lady who answered the phone was very rude, couldn't understand what I ordered and then when I explained it to her she got mad and said "the order is already done, so i'll see what I can do" and then hung up on me. I didn't get to go over the rest of the order. I order from my work, so it's usually orders of $50 or more. We will not be ordering from this restaurant again. read more

We've been going here for years, and it was one of our favorite old style diners. However, recently, it may have new owners or new management, because they completely re-designed the interior with disastrous results. If I wanted to go to Denny's or IHOP, I wouldn't be at the Toasted Bun. But that's what it looks like. Horrible plastic flowers in ugly "planters" on the walls. Cheap Home Depot light fixtures, etc. AGH!! It used to look very traditional and "old school." So much for restrained taste in decorating. As to the food, it seems to not be as good as previously. My steak not cooked as I requested, etc. The wait staff is sweet and works hard, but I'm afraid the Toasted Bun has now become homogenized. Too bad. read more

We all ordered something different to share: The Dutch Babies, French Crepes, and Bacon Waffles. Everything was good but I think the Dutch Babies take the cake. At first service was a bit slow (even though there were only 3 other parties dining at the 8 o'clock hour). I finished my cup of coffee and it sat empty for a solid 10 minutes. Then as people started trickling in and a line started to form, they were much quicker to come around and check on everyone. The coffee is delish. Fresh, hot and tasty. So good I drank it black! If you want to check it out, go early! Otherwise the line gets pretty long. Ta. I think all 3 get pretty busy and the food is just fine. read more

I recently visited Toasted Bun, a cozy little diner in Glendale, and it was a nice experience. The atmosphere is warm, making it a comfortable spot to relax. I tried the salmon burger, and it was quite good--well-cooked and flavorful. The fresh fruit on the side was a nice addition, adding a bit of freshness to the meal. The service was friendly and attentive, which made for a pleasant visit. Overall, I recommend checking out Toasted Bun if you're in the area. Worst food I ever had and I mean it EVER. I Will never go back. :( beef was a piece of rubber covered with fat. I was not even asked how i want it to be done. fries was just defrosted supermarket type with a ton of "seasoning" salad was not fresh. This place is a CULINARY DISASTER. The burger patty was a premade cafeteria burger and was equally like rubber, tasted awful and dry. Go to habit pay $8 dollars and get yourself a high quality burger.
