This new Korean spot surpassed my expectations. The interior design, service, and food were impeccable. The tofu soup was generous with the anchovy stock and is my new favorite in ktown. The raw marinated crab was juicy and flavorful. Seafood pancake and katsu were crispy and delicious. The Galbi Jjim meat was so so tender. No complaints. Amazing Korean food. Highly recommend! Everything we tried on the menu is really good.

My first time trying Ark Shell Bibimbap from here and it was pretty good! Ark Shell is a type of shellfish used in East Asian cuisines. In this particular dish, the taste wasn't too fishy since there were a lot of Korean flavorings and sauces used. There also was a generous amount of protein, so the dish didn't feel like it was just rice. I got it with the purple rice and mixed together, it was delicious. The fried egg on top was also perfectly cooked and crispy with a runny yolk. Tha banchan selection was also good with all the fresh veggies. They paired well with the bibimbap, and of course free refills. Overall, the food here I had was great! This new Korean restaurant in Ktown offers several popular Korean classics. A solid choice with something for everyone. The interior and service are pretty nice as well. They have a parking lot out front, but it can get limited since the area is pretty popular.

Pretty clean and modern Korean restaurant atmosphere with self ordering tablets at each table. We tried ark shell bi bimbap and soy sauce chicken. Very delicious and good service.

Oh my goodness--this is the best Korean food I have ever eaten! The tofu soup and all the other dishes were absolutely superb. The bowl of vermicelli was simply divine, and you could tell from the very first sip that the broth had been simmered to perfection for hours. The kimchi dishes were also incredibly delicious. Compared to the prices in the Los Angeles area near UCLA, this place is incredibly affordable. Thank you for everything!

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW I just had lunch here with my friend. We were actually going to get pho next door but when we parked, we remembered we've been meaning to try Tofu Chon since they opened at this location and pivoted here. It was in between lunch and dinner time---around 2pm when we went and we were the only ones in there. It is bright and spacious in there and each table had an ordering pad for convenient ordering. Our server (I'm sorry, I didn't catch her name) was amazing and periodically checked up on us. The banchan was so colorful---you could just tell that everything was super freshly made. The kimchi was one of the best kimchi I've had in a long time. We both opted for different combos. I got the arkshell bibimbap + extra spicy mixed meat soondubu for $27.99. The food came out fast, piping out, and they were huge portions. BCD has NOTHING on Tofu Chon.

Not entirely sure what they're doing differently, but this tofu soup spot just tastes better than others nearby. The tofu is silky and the broth is savory and full of flavor. I also appreciate that they offer purple rice as an option and the banchan has been consistently solid. We've ordered the combo sets a couple of times, and while the meats are great quality and flavorful, they can be a bit hit or miss depending on the day - the meat dishes can be quite oily at times. That said, it hasn't stopped us from coming back. We've been here a few times just in the past month alone and I already know we'll keep returning. I keep telling myself I'll branch out and try other dishes, but it's hard not to default to the tofu soup every time. Ordering and checkout are done through a tablet at the table, which makes the whole process quick, easy, and modern. Restaurant ambiance is clean, bright, and inviting.

One of the best soondubu out there!! Perfect thickness and flavor and depth all throughout. I got the kimchi pork at the max spicy. It could've been spicier but this quality is much better than BCD in my opinion. Bon chon was good and fresh. The galbi was incredible quality. The potstickers were also very nice and the sauce that came with it was to die for! Great service and open space!

Everything was amazing! This place is located in a plaza in Ktown so if you can either find a spot there (if you're early enough) or street parking. We went early on a Monday day time so there was plenary of open seating. Everything had such great flavors and so fresh and fresh looking as well. We got the combo deals which were great and filling. The service was great as well. I will definitely be coming back here.

10/10 dining and service experience! We stopped in for some comforting beef tofu soup, and I have to admit this is the best tofu soup in all of Southern California! It's markedly better with a thicker soup base and hearty tofu contents. We also tried the kalbi combo, which is smaller but the buttery meat melts in your mouth. The restaurant is clean, minimalistic, and you order from an iPad. They are generous with their korean side dishes, which you can tell are made fresh and in-house.

We knew that LA has good Korean food so we came with high expectations and were not disappointed. We ordered a combo galbi + seafood soon tofu, and the galbitang. The galbitang was chefs-kiss, with rich and flavorful broth, and well-cooked tender meat. The seafood soon tofu was also excellent in flavor, and paired very well with the purple rice. The galbi is good too, but we lacked the stomach space so will need to enjoy it tomorrow.

Wow amazing taste and service. Everything was so good. I ordered the spicy Galbijim and Galbi set with soon tofu. Located in the same plaza with Out of Ordi and Damo. Valet only. We will be coming back for sure

Found this gem in Koreatown in Los Angeles on my recent trip down there. Seems to be a newly opened place, super clean and has a modern decor. We went in on a Friday afternoon and we were seated immediately. We got the khimchi tofu soup along with the beef tofu soup. Both dishes were extremely flavorful and the tofu was so fresh. I even overheard another patron asking if the tofu was made in house and if they sold it separately co of the high quality! The service was attentive and refilled our banchans without asking. All in all loved the experience here and recommend folks looking for good Korean food to give this a try!

Let's face it, K-Town's dining & drinking institutions are a dying breed. Ever since Beverly Soon Tofu's exodus, a competent bowl of scalding hot Soondubu (silken tofu stew) can be quite a commodity. Aside from BCD, capable options are few and far in between. But wait, there's a new competitor in (K) town. ** Tofu Chon joins ##chat Enter Tofu Chon. A fast-casual tofu house out of Ontario CA which specializes in, you guessed it -- Soondubu. A new tofu house in K-town, you say? Say less, fam. Opted for the Galbi (bbq short ribs) & Seafood Soondubu (mild) combo tonight. The combo includes banchan (side dishes) & a bowl of rice (choice of white or purple). Banchan - Fresh & delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed every dish. Galbi - Served on a bed of sautéed onions. Each morsel was well-marinated, flavorful, & tender -- with just the right amount of chew. Seafood Soondubu - Aromatic, savory, & delicious -- with just the right amount of heat. Served bubbling hot with plenty of small shrimps & clams (opted for a raw egg on the side). The service was fast, friendly, and efficient. We were promptly seated by front of the house team. Each table comes equipped with a touchscreen tablet, which makes ordering a breeze. The menu is small, yet effective -- ranging from quintessentials like Bibimbap (mixed rice with meat & veg), Haemul Pajeon (seafood pancake), & Galbijjim (braised short rib) to Gejang (raw marinated crab). Parking can be a nightmare in dystopian K-town. But don't fret. The lot is strictly valet -- albeit at an affordable fee of $3.00. If you are craving for a serious bowl of Soondubu or too impatient to brave the lines at BCD, give Tofu Chon a shot.

The ambiance was lovely and perfect for a date night. The dining room felt dark, intimate, and cozy, and I especially loved the little candle on the table. It was a small touch, but it made the experience feel warm and special. We ordered the perilla oil noodle, scallop pancake, pork jowl, and hwaechae milk to share. The perilla oil noodle had a strong perilla aroma which I loved, but beyond that it didn't really taste like much. It wasn't bad but it's probably the one dish I'd skip next time. The scallop pancake was great. It was crispy, packed with scallops, and the dipping sauce complemented it really well. The pork jowl was easily our favorite dish of the night. It was tender, flavorful, and paired perfectly with all of the accompanying condiments. Every bite felt balanced and well thought out. The hwaechae milk was also delicious and refreshing. It was a fun drink to share and a nice contrast to the richer dishes. While the food was good overall, the portions felt pretty small for the price point. Everything tasted good but it was hard not to notice how quickly the dishes disappeared given what we paid. Maybe it was just the specific dishes we ordered but considering Danbi is on the Michelin Guide, I was expecting bolder and more memorable flavors. Korean cuisine is known for being vibrant and packed with flavor so I left feeling a little underwhelmed. Nothing we had was bad but aside from the pork jowl there wasn't a dish that really wowed me. To end the meal, the staff brought us a yuzu popsicle topped with a birthday candle, which ended up being my favorite part of the entire night. The popsicle was perfectly tangy, refreshing, and honestly more memorable than any of the dishes we ordered. It made the celebration feel thoughtful without being over the top. Overall, we had a great experience. The atmosphere was beautiful, the service was attentive, and it was a lovely place to celebrate a special occasion even though it was a bit overhyped given the small portions, high prices, and flavors that didn't quite live up to my expectations. I'd still come back to try the steak tartare, uni bibimbap, and the zabuton!

From the moment the Korean-style spare ribs arrived at the table, it was clear this was a dish worth savoring. Each rib bore a beautifully charred exterior--deeply caramelized without a hint of bitterness--offering that irresistible smoky aroma the moment it was placed before us. The glaze was nothing short of spectacular. A perfect balance of sweet and spicy, it clung to the meat with a glossy sheen that promised flavor in every bite. There was just enough heat to make your taste buds sit up and pay attention, but it never overwhelmed the deeper, richer notes of the sweet components. But what truly set these ribs apart was the texture. Beneath the charred surface lay meat so tender it practically fell off the bone with the gentlest tug of a fork. If you're searching for some of the city's best pork, then those in the know will bring up Ham Ji Park. For 2 decades, generous platters of pork ribs and pork neck stew decked every table. Now, our Korean friends lament the loss of their favorite pork joint in the city. The Koreatown proper location is located in the Royal Plaza mini-mall, just a few blocks off bustling Wilshire. Discounted parking is available in a lot across the street from the Chevron gas station. From the street, the entrance is flanked by potted plants and an enclosed street-ery. Inside, stainless steel chairs are pressed up against wooden tables, each outfitted with a metal grill. Oppressive fluorescent lighting shines down on the stone grey walls, which are left undecorated apart from a few flatscreens. Multi-lingual chatter blends with the sizzle of platters. I visited with some friends for a weeknight dinner, and about half of the tables were occupied. We shared a spread of grilled platters and sizzling soups. The meal began with a carafe of barley tea and a mostly standard spread of banchan. Across our food, the best dish was the signature Charbroiled Pork Spare Rib. The ribs were flavorful without feeling gamey, and the meat was complemented by sweet caramelized onions. The pork ribs handily outdid the good-not-great Charbroiled Beef Short Rib. Lastly, the Milt and Cod Rose with Vegetables stew was fishy and briny, appropriately flavored for the Korean palate. The service was appropriately attentive, although I would've appreciated more intentional refills of our banchan ramikens. The rib plates cost upward of $35 each, while the soup was just under $30. The portions were hearty; a single entree platter could reasonably feed 2 moderately hungry bellies. It's a shame to hear that Ham Ji Park has closed; I'm kicking myself for not trying their pork neck stew earlier.
