I would give five stars for the food and the service. Unfortunately, this place has decided, apparently fairly recently, that large parties of six (there were six of us plus a 3-month-old) or more are charged a service fee. We were told it was a percent of the bill, however it's odd that it came out to exactly $30. It's not an uncommon practice for restaurants to charge a service fee on top of gratuity for large parties. A party of six is not by anyone's definition a large party. The food was very good, and the service excellent. They weren't very busy for a Friday during dinner time, and adding silly service fees is only going to drive customers away. Food - Bento Box (3 piece): ordered with tonkatsu, beef teriyaki and gyoza. Served with rice, salad and miso soup. Everything was cooked well and tasty. Our youngest really liked the tonkatsu. - Chirashi: loved the presentation. Fish was over ice in a separate container. Second container had warm sushi rice topped with mushrooms, seaweed salad and pickled radish. The fish was super fresh and cuts were generous. Really nice variety too. The best Chirashi I've had in the area. Would definitely get this again. - Miso Soup: came with the meal. Always appreciate a good miso soup. - Salad: came with the meal and was dressed well. Drinks - Soju: didn't have the flavor we originally wanted, but the yogurt soju was still good. We've been here multiple times now and food and service is always great. This sushi place has been here for a while, however the hubby & I just starting eating here this last year & honestly I wish we would've thought to stop by sooner cause I really enjoy their sushi! Compared to some of the other sushi spots in Folsom, Tokyo Sushi has really fresh fish! There's no strong smell, the fish isn't slimy and the flavors in the sushi rolls are balanced out so well that one flavor doesn't over power the other. A few of my favorites are the tuna sliders (YUM), pepper fin & the rainbow roll! The restaurant has a nice quiet atmosphere and is very clean. Updated my review during COVID after ordering through DoorDash. The food was easy to order and was delivered in 30 minutes. The name is Tokyo Sushi in Google and Yelp, but is listed as Andy's Tokyo Sushi in DoorDash. Here's my review of the food. Miso Soup - 8/10 - Good flavor but needed more onions and tofu. Pan Fried Gyoza - 10/10 - Gyoza wasn't crispy BUT the flavor was good and that sauce...omg that sauce. I'm sad that I got 1 sauce with two orders of gyoza. C'mon y'all! Spicy Edamame - 8/10 - Spicy but also has good flavor yet edamame is still the central flavor. Huge serving. Hamachi (Nigiri) - 9/10 - Clean cut of flavorful fish. Double Spicy - 4/10 - Mushy and fishy taste from the spicy salmon. The spicy tuna was good on the inside (I tasted both to see where the fishy taste came from). The combination of both made the texture far from appealing even with the fried shrimp. The garlic was superb as it was fresh, crispy, and full of flavor! This was our least favorite item of the meal. Lucky 7 - 7/10 - Sweet on the front end with the creaminess from the spicy mayo and the spices really get going in your throat at the end. Pretty Coconut - 9/10 - Sweet eel flavor on the front end from the unagi sauce and the sweetness stays through the bite. Red Dragon - 8/10 - My son's favorite roll this evening. I thought it had clean tuna and shrimp flavor, I should have jalapeño slices ready to add to this next time. The most disappointing thing of the evening was that we only got one little container of wasabi for 4 rolls. My wife and I love sushi so when we saw this sushi restaurant, it was on our list to try out. Walked in last night and was greeted by many of the workers in such a nice way. Our server was excellent, always making sure we had everything we needed but doing it quietly and professionally. We both had the 7 piece nigiri plate, which included a very fresh larger-than-normal salad and hot miso soup. Quality of the sushi was the best I've experienced in this area, especially the hotate. Mixed with a beer to start and then some nice cold sake made for a perfect dinner combo. Last but certainly not least, the 2 female Japanese workers were so friendly and helpful too. MY best friend and I came into this sushi place as we were having a mad craving for some sushi deliciousness. we ordered the pepperfin and bbq albacore to start with a miso soup. The miso never came out but they served the pepperfin and albacore promptly with some edamame. Both appetizers were perfect in taste and I really appreciate that the pepperfin sauce wasnt too sweet (I have been to some places where it was really sweet.) The albacore was cooked to perfection and are some thicker pieces so you can really get a good mouthful. They have the big asahi 22oz bottles and they give you a mug to drink it out of. For the rolls we ordered the sakura and the Lucky 7. They seemed very similar except one had jalapenos however it was not as spicy as it led up to be. We ordered lunch via DoorDash. The food was not the best, but not the worst either. It was not a good value for the cost. However please note, the DoorDash prices we paid may be higher than when ordered in-person and should be considered as you read this review. A few specifics on the food we ordered are given below: Tantanmen ramen: not very flavorful and definitely not spicy. Maybe I needed to ask for extra spicy? I liked the noodles, but it wasn't enough for me to like this bowl of ramen. Also, three lousy pieces of menma for this big bowl of ramen? Come on! Chicken teriyaki and yummy yummy rolls: Overall, meh mostly due to lack of flavor. The chicken teriyaki rolls fell apart when we tried to eat them. The Yummy Yummy rolls had very thin slivers of cucumber, which didn't offer much crunch. Also, one tiny wasabi to share between the two rolls? Come on, man! I'll concede that maybe these are just boring rolls; however, similar offerings at other restaurants in the area are considerably better. Potstickers: tasted great but they really skimped on the filling. These had roughly half or less the filling than we see from other restaurants. The dipping sauce for the 6 potstickers...tiny! Come on! They really need to fix their filling volume and dipping sauce quantity. Side of rice: way too expensive for a small cup of rice. It was good, but not that good. This should be a lot cheaper. Edamame: tasted ok, but expensive for what you get. Conclusion: I was not impressed. I could be convinced to try their restaurant again solely because some of their rolls sound good; however, with several consistently-good alternatives in the area, it might be a while. I hope the owners can make some adjustments and convince me and my family become repeat customers. read more

Very, very disappointed with the service and cleanliness of this place. I found a small crawling bug in my bento (perhaps from the lettuce, but who knows). I handed the bug carcass to the attendant, who didn't say anything, just handed us our check and said goodbye. When I brought it to a woman who seemed to be a store manager, she simply brushed it off and said that it was probably a fly in the restaurant and landed in the food (firstly, it was a crawling bug, secondly, the cleanliness of the restaurant is their responsibility). She continued to refute that the bug in our food was not the restaurant's fault - so is it mine? Combined with the dry salmon and burnt fish in my bento, I would not recommend coming back. read more

Let me start by saying I LOVE good sushi! As a matter of fact years ago when they still have the floating boats Tokyo Sushi was one of the first places that I enjoyed getting takeout from. I ordered edamame, a tempura shrimp bento box and 4 rolls (Golden Gate, Sakura, Yummy Yummy and a Michael San. Total bill was over $90 with the tip. 3 of the rolls were supposed to have DFS or what I thought was deep fried shrimp, but I have no idea what they were passing off as the DFS, but it definitely was not shrimp. One of my favorite thing when I get a sushi roll is to get the end piece with the shrimp tail and use the tail to pick it up and dip into my soy sauce. Not one of the rolls that supposedly had the DFS had a tail and the consistency of the "meat" inside was really dense, almost like a fish stick or like they were taking those fake krab sections breading them and deep frying it. What ever it is, it dang sure ain't shrimp. Maybe they are using the DFS acronym to mean "Definitely fake shrimp"? Fish sticks wrapped in rice with a teensy weensy bit of avocado and soy poured over the top is not what I want when I go out for sushi. First time in a long time and last time I'll be a customer of Tokyo Sushi. read more

First time here since we saw their coupon and they are so close to home. We are primarily vegetarians and we enjoyed their vegetarian rolls. They have a handful of vegetarian/vegan rolls to start off, but not much else on the menu for vegetarian entre. We have seen this before with most sushi restaurants and it is up to both the customers and the chefs collaboration to make the Japanese restaurant vegetarian friendly. We are glad this restaurant is very flexible with our requests and made us a vegetable yaki udon with flavorful fried tofu strips! They were also able to make our custom veggie caterpillar roll of vegetable tempura inside with avocado on top and slices of jalapenos. Waiter even came back to suggest cucumbers inside as well which made the roll crunchier. Overall a great first experience with the food and wait staff friendliness. Only downside is the sticky floors which drives me nuts in any restaurant and our table was not fully cleaned. Minus one star. Keep up the good food and vegetarian friendliness and keep the floors clean and this place would be a full 5 stars read more

We discovered this place after my lengthy (some might say neurotic) search for a Japanese place that has both online ordering AND Sesame chicken. I'm not a sushi fan so that usually means I'm S.O.L. but this place is awesome! The people of friendly, the food is delicious, and their prices are reasonable. Usually when I suggest a place my wife rolls her eyes because she has literally no confidence in my choice of food (I feel the same about her, however) but she absolutely loves this place. We came here as the only choice we had was takeout food as my wife as into Japanese food and the prices looks like it did increase. We ordered the bento box there is a 2 item and 3 item. My wife got the 2 item, but added $2.00 for the beef teriyaki. By the time we came home, the meat was overcooked. Fish was okay though. I ordered the sesame chicken, the pork cutlet and California roll. The chicken was really dry and the skin on the outside was pretty soggy. Pork cutlet was dry and the Miso soup well was not good in my opinion. The California roll was probably the best thing I did. I had their handrolls which was quite good. I ordered the Awesome Roll (added lemon) and Vegan Roll. The Vegan Roll was fresh and bright, as to be expected from avocado, cucumber and mushroom. The other roll, however, wasn't what I thought I was getting.......Turns out it wasn't the right one! They immediately made a new one for me and it was truly Awesome! Great place for quick lunch. (Not giving 5 stars though because of the mistake and the seared albacore on top didn't taste the freshest; as if they sear it all ahead of time and it sits until time to use.) read more

Certain rolls are 5$ and 6$ and appetizers are reasonably priced too. Rolls were great and I got the stuffed mushrooms. Both were amazing! Such a bang for your buck.
