Ordered food to go at lunch time. The young man who took my order was friendly and kind. I ordered two meals, a brisket dinner and a baked potato w/brisket. I asked for extra potato toppings, which I was charged for (no problem) and I asked for extra bbq sauce. While I was waiting for my food to be made, I walked over to the condiment area (with serve yourself large bottles of bbq sauce), which is open to the kitchen. A lady in the kitchen starting loudly complaining about my ordering extra condiments and they need to start charging for extras and how ridiculous it was. I was a bit shocked by how loudly she was ranting. Especially since I paid for the extra potato toppings and there are large bottles of self serve bbq sauce right there in the restaurant for everyone to help themselves. So I'm not sure what she was so upset about. But anyway, the food was okay. The brisket had a lot of fat (which I like!) but the meat was very salty and dry. I thought I really liked this place but honestly it's just ok, there is definitely better. The pulled pork is extremely fatty, and the "sliced" brisket is shredded and never nicely sliced. Stay away! We've been customers since before the Covid years and went every couple weeks to try to help them during the Covid shutdown. However, apparently there's new people running it. The wonderful ladies who used to run it are never there anymore. They also stopped a while back accepting the 5 Star points program. I placed an order online for pickup. When we arrived we were told they never received the order. After showing them proof we ordered and paid, come to find out that the orders go to someone's email and it was never forwarded to the kitchen. Ok, fine.... But the order was scheduled for 5:15. We found this when we were searching for a place for a sit down, relaxed supper. The menu had many delicious options, from appetizers to sandwiches and salads to dinners. We chose our meals and ordered at the counter, then went and found a table. I had the Wednesday dinner special of brisket with two sides and either cornbread or a biscuit. I opted for the cornbread and was not disappointed. My meat was tender and delicious and I asked for the bbq sauce on the side. I require low carb foods, so I got double the green beans for my sides. The beans were yummy and had bacon on them. I do wish they'd include a house salad as an option for a side. I could've gotten one, but there was an upcharge to do so. My dinner companion had the fish dinner with coleslaw, hush puppies, and green beans. She said the fish tasted good, but thought there was too much breading on it. The hush puppies were slightly overcooked, but the green beans and coleslaw were wonderful. The portions were very generous and we ended up taking much of it home and got two more meals out of it! By far the worst meal I have had since I moved to Phoenix. I had the rib tip dinner with fries. The meat tasted reheated with some awlful tasting BBQ Sauce poured over it and a majority is fat. The fries tasted like raw potatoes heated up which I'm guessing they didn't cook them long enough. Main reason to writing this post is to save some poor soul from picking this place to eat. Tom's Bbq has outstanding food. We have frequented here for at least the past 5 years, doing takeout around once a month. Last night we ordered 3 Italian Beef subs. (They were extremely small (4 inches) and we realized prices were raised as well ($11+). My husband called to discuss this and there was no manager onsite, just a worker who had been there three months. He had no answers really (not his fault) except that since he's been there that's the size he has been making. Costs are up which is fine. You accept that when you go to restaurants to eat. You don't raise prices and make food sizes smaller alongside that. Again, this review is not about the food, the food is fantastic. No one need to be treated like this and ripped off at the same time for nasty food. I can't even compliment the service! No apologies for all the changes in the cost. Was a bit nervous going here after seeing the mixed reviews. Went tonight with my roommate and we were both very pleased! Restaurant set-up is simple and decor is all new-looking. Staff was very nice and helpful even though the main employee seemed very frazzled since it was a bit busy - he was still very kind and attentive! Food came out within 5-10 minutes of placing our order and was brought directly to our table rather than having to go back up to the counter to get it. I got the rib tips dinner with corn on the cob and cole slaw. The portion was absolutely huge - I needed help to finish it! Cole slaw was creamy with just the right amount of mayo and the corn was sweet and not overly buttered. This was my first experience eating rib tips and I was not disappointed. The pork was tender and had phenomenal flavor. It was not excessively fatty as some people have said. The sauce was very tasty - sweet and brown sugary but with a little tang. My roommate had the pulled pork sandwich with the spicy sauce and the baked beans. He loved it all and raved about the baked beans. Desserts looked good but we were way too full. If you've never been to Tom's BBQ in Chandler...never go. That is the absolute worst excuse for BBQ that I've ever had in my entire life. I really think they should pay me for having eaten that trash. DON'T GO EVER. Ribs had no rub at all (who doesn't season their meat?), and I absolutely GUARANTEE they boiled them (a Class 1 Felony in the BBQ world) before putting them on a grill for about 10 minutes. Then they brought them out drenched in their thick, bland ass sauce (more on that travesty below). Which I hate. Put the sauce on the side. Especially if it sucks. They were too lazy to remove the membrane, which explains why they were tough and had NO FLAVOR. Where they do that at? That's BBQ 101! Literally, my 5 year old knows to remove the membrane...and she can show you how to do it too. Whoever is cooking these things has literally no idea what they're doing. Mac and Cheese was just Velveeta shells n cheese reheated and thrown in a styrofoam cup. Wait, no. It wasn't even THAT good. Looked more like Great Foods shells and cheese-like product. My 4 year old took one bite and said "ewwwwwww". Potato Salad looked and tasted like Karen's. Enough said. And Cole Slaw should have been called "Unseasoned Cabbage and Carrot Salad with plain Mayonnaise dressing". Their house BBQ (which they had the unmitigated gall to actually bottle and sell to people for additional money) straight up tasted like ketchup with a little brown sugar and a pinch of sadness. SMH I don't even know what to say. I should have gone to Popeyes next door like I was originally going to do. The only thing BBQ about this place is there bbq sauce, which is probably the only flavorful part of this meal. As you can see, the chicken is extremely dry, void of flavor, and has zero smoke. If I'm being honest it tastes and looks like it's days old and reheated. The same goes for the rib tips. They are super chewy and sliced thin, probably to mask the texture. I'm sure the rib tips and chicken were baked and not smoked and then covered in sauce when served. Smoke meats should stand on their own and only require sauce as a compliment. The mashed potatoes are ok but the gravy tastes like something out of a can. The coleslaw is decent at best. I don't mind spending $20 for a plate of bbq if it's good. Ok so, we just moved to Chandler from California last week and wanted to order great bbq tonight. There seem to be a plethora oh bbq joints in the area and many with pretty great reviews. However, we always like to give our money to local places first so we ordered from Toms. So we ordered the item that I think is called All in one for three of us. It says serves two but it was definitely a very large portion and there was more than enough for myself, husband and 12 yr old son. That was nice. The price also was nice at I think $18 or so. It included, chicken, ribs, brisket and hot links with choice of three sides and cornbread. The brisket and chicken were very tender and tasty but the ribs were pretty dry and tough. Not how pork ribs should be. The hot links were enjoyed by my husband and son but how can you mess up hot links that you order packaged? We ordered the Mac and cheese, Cole slaw and beans. I have to say the sides were the worst part of the meal, really bad, and I mean really bad! When I opened the teeny tiny container of beans which was supposed to be for two people but was really a one person side, I mistook it at first for bbq sauce because it was 90% filled with oily liquid. Seriously! It wasn't until I stirred it that I found some beans at the bottom. On to the Mac and cheese which was also in a teeny tiny container. It was very creamy but it was so bright orange and very very salty. I'm pretty sure it was a packaged cheese sauce from the color and salt. Also, They gave us the jalapeño Mac and cheese even though we ordered regular. The meal came with cornbread. Well, this was probably the biggest disappointment because it was so unbelievably salty that it was not edible. Corn bread should be sweet like corn, not super salty. None of us ate it. We were all saying that whoever made the cornbread must have made a mistake and added salt instead of sugar. Overall it was quite disappointing and we most likely won't return. Ok this was my first time here. I went in and ordered for to-go and the place looked clean. I ordered half a rack of ribs and it came with 2 sides so I decided to go with the Jalapeño Mac and Cheese and Jalapeño Corn bread. The ribs come with optional reg bbq, mild or spicy sauce I like spicy and it was good everything I ate had a little kick to it. It also came with a complementary diner roll which was nice and soft. The ribs here aren't the fall of the bone kind of ribs. It seemed more dry and requires more work to get the meat off the bone and for $17 after tax it seemed over priced. All I can say is I should've followed my gut feeling, regarding this barbecue. Does not compare to all. I will absolutely never come here again - The owner, Brenda, took my order when I came in and she was having issues with her register being online. Cool, fine. I waited patiently while she handled it. No big deal. Well, she proceeded to run my card 4 times in an attempt to get the payment to go through. I was charged 4 times. I have since contacted the restaurant and spoke with Brenda (said the charges would come off), Jordan (was also told the charges would come off) and Patty (downright just rude, actually had the gall to ask me if I had sufficient funds in my account) - None of whom have been *willing* or *able* to help me. It looks like I'm going to have to contact my bank and file a police report. Also, my fish was undercooked and my fries were soggy and dark like they don't change the fry oil often enough. I wish I could give 0 stars. Save your time and money. This place was a pleasant accidental find. My husband was heading to Popeye's, which I don't like. I told him I'd chance a bbq sandwich. Instead I got the most amazing crispy fried catfish, and a very tasty potato salad with green beans!... I didn't love the chicken or the ribs, but my husband did.
