This had to be the second worst BBQ I have ever had. I ordered the Rib Tips, Red Beans and Rice, Coleslaw, Cornbread and a Brownie. The Rib Tips had zero flavor with not even a hint of smoke, charcoal or wood and no sign of a smoke ring. The Tips where also tight and were not tender at all. The Red Beans and Rice had a burnt taste in addition to being flavorless. Takeout from Tom's has been consistently delicious for over a year now. We stick with the bbq plates and seafood plate sometimes with a baked potato we can share. Brisket is the only meat that is hit or miss so far. The food from Tom's reminds me of dishes found at bbq picnics or family reunions in the Midwest. Classic but delish. read more

First time to visit Tom's BBQ, it won't be my last. I had the sliced sliced beef brisket sandwich. The beef was lean, smoking tasting, tender and really a nice amount. I have been to Texas a number of times, quite frankly the brisket met, or exceeded the brisket I have had in Texas. I ordered the brisket with the mild sauce, but went back for a little of the hot sauce (at least for me it needed a little kick). My wife had the pulled pork sandwich, she really liked it (I had a bite, but to be honest it was a bit to moist for my tastes, but still tasted very good). Also try the fried mushrooms.... coated with a nice light batter and were cooked perfectly and nice and moist inside. Prices are a little high, but well worth it. read more

I really like the Toms in Mesa, but this location just does not cut it. My family has tried this location four times. Disappointing. I haven't been to Tom's in Mesa for many years. Unfortunately, this location is not the same. We have ordered take out twice here, and the family has been disappointed both times. This second time actually made my stomach churn and convinced us that we wouldn't be back. My husband's brisket was nothing but fat. He couldn't even eat half of his meal because it was fat. They forgot my son's french fries, which caused nothing but drama and sheer disappointment once we got home from picking it up. There was no extra bbq sauce, which is just wrong to send take-out home to customers without extra sauce. Finally, my pulled pork was mostly soggy bun, not appetizing. Lunch on Saturday, turned out to be quite disappointing. I had the Brisket platter, this is not BBQ, it was all dried out and the so called bark was nothing more than a thick salty like substance on the outside edge. The BBQ sauce was nothing more than tomato paste/sauce with sugar. Kind of a hidden gem in Chandler. Barbecue as good as Joe's Barbecue in Gilbert without the hassle of driving to Gilbert, looking for parking, and then standing in a long line. We tried Tom's BBQ for the first time. Not the best BBQ I have ever had. Not the worst BBQ I have ever had. The ribs were ok but not a lot of meat on them. The rest of the meat was salty. Corn was terrible as also the mash potatoes and gravy, real bad. The rolls were fresh and the BBQ beans were very good. The Lady who took our order was very pleasant. The place itself is bland but they do have a tv with sports. I have to agree with someone else's comment, how do you smoke meat in a strip mall? Stopped by to pick up dinner last night for my family. When I got home and as I was eating my meal I noticed that my fish was undercooked! I broke open all of the pieces of fish and all but one were pink inside. I'm assuming my meal was undercooked because they were in a hurry to close. I called and left a voicemail and waited for a response. Nothing. Called again and Brenda stated that the fish wasn't undercooked it was cooked perfectly... and then she offered a credit for me to use. Why would I want to go back to an establishment that serves me undercooked food? The least they could have done was offer me my money back for a dinner I wasn't able to eat. This is my kind of BBQ! We tried this place on a whim the other night and were pleasantly surprised. It's more of a Chicago style BBQ...smoked and slathered with sauce which is exactly how I like my BBQ! I had the sliced chicken sandwich with fries. The chicken was moist, the bun was good and the sauce was just the right combination of sweet and smoke. The fries were some of the best I've had anywhere. You could tell they were fresh cut (not frozen) and cooked to a perfect crisp. My guest has a meat combo platter and commented that it was very good. Tom's BBQ is good. I am a fan of the pulled pork sandwich. Not a big fan of the Chicago style hot dog. I am a true midwest girl and I like a nice snap to my hot dog. I did not get that at Tom's. I did however get a nice sweet but smoky sauce with a very tender pulled pork on a soft bun. The mac and cheese was just okay. Cole slaw is good. I would like to try in the future the pulled pork nachos as well as the Italian beef sandwich with hot peppers. Service was wonderful. They didnt fall off the bone , which i like . The chicken was moist . My only problem was that the sauce was s all over the ribs and chicken . I like putting my sauce on myself . Let me just start off by saying I never complain about food places. If I dont like them Ill just avoid them in the future. The first issue I had with this place is the fact that the guy taking my order didnt have a clue what he was doing. I literally had to repeat my order 5 or 6 times because the guy couldnt figure out the menu even after I told him what I was reading word for word off of their to go menu. I placed pickup order and it was ready in about 10 minutes (not bad). Ive never eaten here before but I had heard good things so maybe my expectations were too high. I ordered the pulled pork toms house sandwich lunch special. The sandwich wasnt bad. A little messy to eat but nothing that I couldnt handle. The side I got was their mac n cheese and lets just say I was beyond disappointed. If I wanted stauffers I could have gone to the grocery store and bought it there. What kind of crap is that? If youre gonna serve "the best bbq in town" your sides could be a little better than that. John from Chandler BBQ Co. makes better mac n cheese come on. If 0 stars were an option I'd go for that ...my husband and I got some sandwiches made of pork with some spicy peppers [I forget the name ] absolute trash. It was sloppily thrown together and the bread was soggy from the meat and peppers which tells me they have it sitting in liquid(not fresh) and then throw it on a (untoasted) bun. They also have these gross potato strings they make...they were all stuck together, greasy and not seasoned. I had out-of-town guests who wanted some BBQ. The staff was very nice, helpful and friendly. I had fish and chips as it was recommend, "We pack the house" on Fridays. Options were "white fish" or "catfish", I like both but selected the whitefish. I don't know what I got but it was soft like catfish but didn't taste like it. I've never had anything like it and I wouldn't have it again. Another had shrimp, rubbery. The two that we brought here for BBQ commented it was overly smokey. I noticed the cornbread came in a plastic wrap. It wasn't horrible food but all of us agreed we'd scratch this place off the list. read more
