    Carne Asada Burrito

I had no idea this existed but now that I know, I'll definitely be back. I was craving a burrito and stumbled upon this place and I'm so glad I did! I ordered an asada burrito and it was so good that I finished it in one sitting! They also give chips and salsa which was a bonus and adds to the whole experience. The service was great and they were very helpful. I love the casual ambiance and perfect for a quick bite. There's also plenty of parking which is great! Can't wait to come back and try other things on the menu.

I've been coming to Tortas Mexico for like 25 years. Back in the old days when they were up on foothill a friend of mine from Mexico told me it was the most authentic food in the area and he introduced me to their carne asada torta. That was all I ordered there for years when I would come occasionally. After they moved to their current location and had more of a restaurant vibe my wife started ordering their Caldo de Pollo, which is excellent. We've kind of gone on and off our frequency of coming here over the years but recently we've been coming back a lot and the thing that stands out to me is what a variety they have on their menu. In the last couple months we've been coming once a week and I've not ordered the same thing twice and everything I've had has been ranging from very good to excellent. Tostadas, taquitos, flautas, burritos, All of it really delicious.

Amazing restaurant as authentic as it comes . It's been my favorite Mexican restaurant around the area for a very long time .

We had a beautiful sunny weekend. Gorgeous weekend outdoor weather for a change. Perfect for leisure walks. So we headed to Montrose to visit family and enjoy the outdoors. As you stroll through the charming Montrose neighborhood business district on such a bright and sunny day, a symphony of sights and sounds surrounds you, painting a charming and vibrant picture of community life in motion. Once our appetites grew, we knew we had to head to one our favorite spots in Montrose for Mexican food, Tortas Mexico. Nestled in the heart of Montrose, Tortas Mexico is a hidden gem, unassuming, but a place that promises you a culinary journey through the vibrant flavors of Mexico. To start the fiesta, I indulged in one of my favorites, the Shrimp Cocktail, a refreshing and zesty appetizer of shrimp swimming in a tangy tomato-based cocktail sauce, accented with fresh avocado, cilantro, and a hint of lime. Wow! Delicious! Each bite was a burst of freshness that awakened my taste buds and left me craving more. ¡Sabroso! Next up were the Enchiladas, a classic Mexican comfort food that did not disappoint. We also ordered the Chicken Tacos and Carne Tacos. They were a true fiesta for the taste buds. The Chicken Tacos featured tender, marinated chicken nestled in warm corn tortillas and topped with cilantro, and a small amount of salsa. Simple, but tremendously flavorful. The Carne Tacos boasted juicy, seasoned beef, perfectly grilled and paired with a little bit of onions, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime. ¡Delicioso! For a taste of traditional Mexican cuisine, we also savored the Pollo con Mole, a dish that perfectly balanced sweet and savory flavors. The tender chicken was smothered in a rich, velvety mole sauce made with a blend of chilies, spices, and chocolate, creating a dish that was both comforting and complex. This mole is incredibly delicious. One of the best we have ever enjoyed. To round out the meal, we couldn't resist trying the Bean and Cheese Pupusa, a Salvadoran specialty that was a delightful surprise on the menu. These thick, handmade corn tortillas were stuffed with creamy beans and gooey cheese, then griddled to crispy perfection. Each bite was a perfect marriage of textures and flavors, making it a satisfying and delicious addition to the meal. Tortas Mexico will definitely exceed your expectations with its authentic flavors, warm hospitality, and diverse menu offerings. From the vibrant Shrimp Cocktail to the comforting Pollo con Mole and everything in between, each dish was a celebration of Mexican culinary artistry. If you're ever in Montrose and looking for a flavorful fiesta for your taste buds, Tortas Mexico is the place to be. I strongly recommend it!

Ordered to go via Google (I guess they use Postmates to fulfill the order). Got charged for my meal and received a text confirmation telling us our order was ready, only for us to show up at the restaurant and have staff tell us our order was cancelled and they were closed, yet the restaurant seemed to be open. We did not receive any notice besides the text that told us our order was ready. Note: We ordered at 5:45, restaurant hours on every possible site state the restaurant is open until 8:00. I have not received any refund for my order. Won't be ordering again.

Family Pack Carnitas, rice, beans and sauce.. Tortillas come with it. It's like build your own tacos

They were noticeably weak and lacked flavor, so we politely asked if they could be adjusted. Instead of simply remaking them, we were asked whether we had "stirred the drink," which came across as dismissive and unnecessarily condescending. Unfortunately, the service didn't improve. We requested sauce on the side with one of our dishes, but the order came out incorrectly. I even switched to speaking Spanish to make sure there wasn't a misunderstanding, but it still wasn't resolved. At that point, we decided to let it go rather than wait even longer. If you're into bland food, weak drinks and bad service, this place is a 10/10. For real Mexican food, there are so many better options in LA. What stood out most was the manager's response to our concerns. Rather than listening and trying to make things right, the interaction felt defensive from the start. When we explained the issue with the margaritas, the response was essentially to ask if we wanted to return them instead of acknowledging why we were dissatisfied. The evening took an even worse turn when my phone was stolen while we were at the restaurant. I wasn't expecting the restaurant to be responsible for the theft itself, but I did expect some level of empathy or assistance from management. Instead, we felt largely dismissed during what was already a stressful situation. I previously wrote a review describing what happened, but it was removed. So I'll simply say this: based on our firsthand experience, the combination of poor drinks, slow and inaccurate service, and an unhelpful management response left us with no desire to return. I hope this feedback is taken as an opportunity to improve how customer concerns are handled in the future.

The nachos were absolutely amazing--one of the best parts of the meal. Before we even ordered, they brought out chips with green and red salsa, and even those chips were delicious. However, the enchiladas were not good at all. Still, the nachos were so good, with guacamole and cheese coming together perfectly, that I would definitely go back whenever I'm craving nachos. Lately, I've been really enjoying watching World Cup soccer games, and it was fun to watch and cheer together while having dinner there. One thing I noticed: the women's restroom was not well maintained at first. There was no toilet seat cover and no toilet paper in one of the restrooms, so I felt it could have been cleaner and better managed. However, when I went back a second time, I saw a staff member actively restocking supplies, handing out toilet seat covers and toilet paper to others, and communicating with housekeeping over a radio about what was needed. That made me feel better about how they manage the facility. Overall, from the hostess who seated us to the servers, all the staff were very friendly, which made the experience even better. Apparently, my friend and other mutual colleagues/friends still kept in touch with each other on a regular basis (I wasn't good about that) and met here fairly often on Mondays. My schedule was always difficult, but on this fateful date, I was available and geeked to hang out with people I haven't seen in over a decade easily. Having served Montrose since 2002, they have since become a pillar of the community with their family recipes and fresh homemade cuisine. I was surprised I'd never heard of this place since I grew up in the area and still relatively frequented it. Would my first time at the sun be my last, or would the family feel (and happy hour!) bring me back!? PURCHASE(S) Chips & Salsa (COMP): Both homemade, the chips were crispy and warm while the salsas were spicy and warm - arriba! Blended Mango Margarita Blended ($7.00 HH): Mango flavor throughout with enough tequila, this was a nice way to start my imbibing on this hot day! Asada Street Tacos 2pc ($5.00 HH): Marinated tender beef with diced white onion, this was simplicity at its best! Carnitas Street Tacos 2pc ($5.00 HH): Same as the asada tacos but chicken! Strawberry Margarita On The Rocks ($7.00 HH): Fruity and sweet with just enough tequila but more ice than I liked. Bean & Cheese Nachos ($5.00 HH): Hot beans and melty cheese, this was very basic but served its purpose. Peach Margarita On The Rocks ($7.00 HH): Refreshing but same as the strawberry version. Cheese Quesadilla + Chicken ($5.00 + $1.00 HH): Another dish that helped to absorb the alcohol with a decent amount of chicken. Bohemia Pilsner Beer 4.7% ABV 12floz Bottle ($5.00 HH): Bright amber color, malty aroma, light body, malty sweet warm watery flavor, crisp finish, and light malty sweet watery aftertaste. A slightly elevated Mexican cerveza - salud! Pacifico Clara Lager Beer 4.5% ABV 12floz Bottle ($5.00 HH): Bright amber color, malty salty aroma, light body, malty warm watery flavor, clean finish, and light malty watery aftertaste. An easy-breezy beer! SERVICE Warmly greeted by a young gentleman who ended up also being our server. I was the first to arrive, and when I mentioned my friends' names, he took me to their standard booth, gave me a menu, a glass of water, and complimentary chips and salsa. He returned moments later, took my first of many orders, and as our ever-growing party kept showing up, he was on us with such ease while he kept his head on a swivel as orders came from all directions. He was the bomb - muchas gracias! PARKING (FREE): They shared parking within a small strip mall that featured a handful of other businesses such a laundromat, a liquor store, and more. Otherwise, there were many spots along the main drag of Honolulu Ave. - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A casual clean somewhat packed floor plan with two dining areas (the main front and the side) filled with a mix of booths and partitioned tables, I didn't notice an actual bar, and minimal cultural decorations added some splash along with some 2026 World Cup fever. Plenty of natural lighting entered through the front doors and windows while an assortment of electric ceiling lights would've covered the rest as it got darker. There were several low-volume TVs throughout while I couldn't recall any background music. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I had a fun time at El Sol Family Restaurant mainly because I caught up with so many people I haven't seen in so many years and to be introduced to a new business to me with a very good happy hour. I hoped to join them for more happy hours and actually try their full menu. The food was yummy, the prices very affordable, the menu was rather sizable, and the service was awesome. Plus, I preferred to support small mom & pop businesses whenever possible. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $60.00 BEFORE any discounts, points usage, and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

1 star Extremely…read moredisappointed with this experience. I ordered a breakfast burrito around 8 PM, planning to eat it when my husband got home around 11:30 PM. When we finally cut into it, we realized they had given us a completely different burrito/order. I immediately called the restaurant, and I was told that corrections or refunds could only be made the same day. At that point it was already around 11:45 PM. I live about 20 minutes away, so driving back would have put me there after closing. I even offered to send a picture of the incorrect order, but was told they couldn't access the email. What made this even more frustrating was how unaccommodating the employee was. Knowing there was no realistic way for me to drive 20 minutes back to the restaurant before closing, I expected at least some effort to find a reasonable solution. Instead, I felt like I was simply being told there was nothing they could do. When I said I would contact upper management for a resolution via email, the employee even seemed relieved, rather than concerned about resolving the issue. I understand mistakes happen, but the restaurant made the mistake--not me. The least they could have done was offer a refund for an overpriced burrito that I didn't even order. It's now past midnight, and I have to drive way out of my way just to find somewhere that's still open to get food. Very disappointing customer service, and unfortunately I won't be ordering from here again.

1-Star Review - Very Disappointing Experience…read more I wanted to support this small, family-owned Mexican restaurant, but unfortunately this was one of the most disappointing takeout experiences I've had in a long time. We ordered nachos without picadillo. What we received was a pile of chewy, tough meat that was difficult to eat. The refried beans tasted like canned beans rather than freshly prepared beans. There was absolutely no sour cream drizzle, no sliced jalapeños, and the cheese was not melted at all--not even slightly. Since this was a takeout order, I understand food can cool down during transport, but melted cheese doesn't completely revert back to unmelted shredded cheese. These nachos clearly never came out of a hot oven. The sope was equally disappointing. The masa tasted store-bought rather than freshly made. It lacked the flavor and texture of a handmade sope. The tomato slices looked old and past their prime. The only saving grace of the meal was the salsa, which was actually quite good. To add insult to injury, they charged extra for what can only be described as a thimble-sized serving of guacamole. The wet burrito was covered in an excessive amount of thick red sauce that had a grainy texture, as if it had not been properly strained. The sauce tasted processed and possibly canned. There was no melted cheese on top and no crema drizzle. Inside was more of the same chewy, tough meat. The Mexican rice lacked flavor, and the beans again tasted canned rather than fresh. The Total came to $46, and the restaurant accepts Cash only. Since I didn't have cash, I had to go next door to a small market to get a cash advance. The store clerk charged me a $2 fee to run my card and explained that they are not affiliated with the restaurant and do not provide receipts. When I returned and asked the restaurant for a receipt for my order, the employee taking orders seemed annoyed by the request. Instead of providing a receipt, she stapled an order ticket to the takeout bag. The shocking part was that the back of the ticket already contained handwritten information from another customer's order. She told me to ignore it. The paper itself was yellowed, wrinkled, and looked like it had been pulled from a trash bin. It gave a VERY unsanitary impression! There is also a significant safety concern. When exiting the restaurant, there is approximately a one-foot drop from the doorway. Although there is a warning painted near the bottom of the exit, it is easy to miss. The person I was with actually injured herself while leaving because of this hazard. There is no dedicated parking, so the business likely relies mostly on local foot traffic. Overall, the food quality was poor, the customer service was lacking, and the entire experience left a bad impression. I genuinely wanted to support a local business, but this visit gave me no reason to return. Rating: 1 out of 5 stars. I do not recommend this restaurant, and I will not be back. *********************************
