We had an excellent lunch here today. Food was fresh, healthy and delicious. Such a pleasant departure from what we normally get from Tucson restaurants. However, True Food Kitchen, if you are listening, please be sure your menu is true to what is actually served! We ordered the edamame dumplings which were supposed to be served with Thai Basil. Instead there was cilantro. BIG difference. Fortunately we like both but we should have been made aware of the substitution. We also ordered the Chocolate Pot de Crème. Also delish but it was supposed to come with macerated strawberries. The tiny amount of strawberries we were served were fresh and not macerated! read more

Delicious food and drinks. BAD service; Came in Tuesday at 12, got seated by a hostess at the bar seats to avoid the 35min wait time. No menus were given to us so we snagged two from the neighboring seats only to wait 15 minutes to ask if we had been helped and not get the dirty glassware or previous receipt taken away until we ordered food. Ordered 2 shots of espresso for myself and get served two separate shots, no biggie. Ordered some juices, delicious! Ordered two entrees. Brought out the wrong food at first and then received the correct order. Had to get up to get silverware as we weren't given any and the lack of bartenders attentiveness was really showing as she was doing side work right in front of us. Never got asked how our food was or if we needed anything after food was dropped off. My friend ordered a matcha latte for herself and she tried making two for us. Waters were never refilled nor were we offered any. It was just overall rough inattentive service. Not to say the bartenders weren't nice but they need a staff retrain and to make sure everyone is on the same page. When asking about the gift card promotion going on no one seemed to have any answers. Asked if there were any stipulations to be told none until I purchased one and it was explained it can't be used until January-March. We had to ask for boxes twice to two different people and to ask cash out after a 2 hour meal. If we were on our work lunch we wouldn't have been able to even eat. Hopefully will be able to go back once things calm down since they did just open. All that being said, matcha latte was to die for and great espresso! I never leave less than 20% tip and I unfortunately couldn't justify more than 15% tip for the service received. read more

Ordered Hatch chili turkey burger with kale salad. Burger had no taste, no chili flavor at all. Kale was so bitter, ate only 2 bites. Please serve some regular milk products for coffee, only option was oat milk. For a restaurant that is supposed to be serving healthy food, this seemed an odd choice to only serve an artificial and highly process milk substitute. Overheard bartender tell customer that meat all comes from outside US because it is humanely treated. Wow, what an insult to local farmers! Have the buyers from this restaurant actually visited a real farm and talked with farmers about their farming techniques and tried to source food locally? I read the info about this chain and it says nothing about sourcing food locally. The outside patio is lovely, but probably not worth a return visit. read more

Food was ok.... Made reservations earlier in the week and had to wait 35 minutes for a table outside. Outdoor heaters do not provide a comfortable temperature this time of year. The hostess seemed over whelmed and reservations did not make a difference. Service was slow and inattentive. Had to ask for refills of drinks and water. Food was ok and they were out of meatloaf. Edamame dumplings were toast but cold... disappointing. Pan toasted chicken was tough and basically a very small chicken leg / thigh with lots of quinoa. We have enjoyed delicious meals at True Foods in Phoenix, LA and TX with service levels that eclipsed the chaos we saw this evening. Hope they get their act together because there are great restaurants in Tucson with delicious food and "above and beyond" service levels. read more

Damn, I really wanted it to be a good experience but it was kinda meh I had the burger itself which was ok'ish but the bun which was pale and frail fell apart as soon as I picked it up. No one used sweet buns on burgers anymore? Tonight, we had our Valentine's dinner at True Food Kitchen. We had an outdoor table with a view of the Catalinas and Finger Rock. This was our first time at True Food Kitchen, and it will be our go-to spot for special occasion meals in the future. Everything that you would expect from a restaurant with Dr. Andrew Weil's brand was realized. The Brussels sprout appetizer was more than healthful, it was delicious. The roasted vegetables came with sesame seeds and the tiniest red peppers imaginable that were flavor bursts. Our entrees were the grass-fed burger with Parmesan cheese and the Not Your Mama's Meatloaf. The beef was superior to any that we have had anywhere, truly delicious. The meatloaf came with roasted fingerling potatoes, carrots that were like candy and mushrooms. The non-Collins, 0-proof mocktail, was a treat. It turned out to be red in color from pomegranate juice, perfect for Valentine's Day. For dessert we ordered the kid's ice cream sundae with chocolate chip cookie. And what a cookie it was. Thick and rich with chocolate, it blended perfectly with the ice cream. The cookies are baked in-house. Our waitress, Tyson, was kind and good-natured with all of our questions about the menu. When she told us that the hazelnut mocha coffee was made with oatmeal milk, red flags went up. We had never had oatmeal milk in our lives! Tyson assured us that it would be wonderful, and it was. With the freshly ground cinnamon on top, it is a drink that could be served in Heaven. We hope that True Food Kitchen knows how fortunate they are to have a server like Tyson. She is a nutrition major at the University of Arizona and is fully behind the mission of Whole Food Kitchen. She made the evening very special for us. read more

I have been here twice. The flavors are excellent and the food is well seasoned. I had the ancient grain bowl with grilled shrimp. The pistachio pesto in this dish was absolutely delicious. Very creative food. My husband had the poke bowl with forbidden rice which was also great. The cauliflower appetizer was a bit overcooked but the flavors were awesome. Friendly staff. Great spot! Sadly disappointed. Table for 4 on 12/23 for dinner. Maybe because Mr. Andrew W. was in attendance and the kitchen's attention was focused on him, or an off night. Two of us had burgers that were over cooked. I had the Harvest Salad with chicken which was not at all fresh and left me with an upset stomach (colon blow) the following morning. Good thing I ate only half. Decaf coffee with dessert was burnt and warm and had to be sent back. Carrot cake and apple crumb for dessert were just mediocre. The service was just ok. I asked my waitress for ice cubes for the water and she brought them after I asked another server to bring them (she did apologize). I don't think I'll be going back. read more

My first visit to this TFK location last night was to pick up a take out order called in by my daughter. The food was very good, although the vegetable portions were on the small side. The absolute high point, however, was the service provided by Luis, who was the server handling the take out orders. My husband and I went to the Tucson True Food on 9/13 for lunch. We were incredibly impressed by the good service of two of the employees. One was our server, Jummana. We mentioned a couple things that weren't "perfect" about our order, and she cheerfully and immediately offered to make changes. We hadn't asked for this, and really wouldn't have asked, but she was very eager to make sure we were completely satisfied. At one point, I was sitting and sort of rubbing my arms because I was cold in the restaurant. Lara, another server, but not ours, happened to notice me and asked if I was cold and then offered to bring me a blanket! While I felt a bit foolish, it was perfect to get that, and more than wonderful of her to even notice me shivering and offer. Our food was great, and these two employees, plus the manager Chloe who I asked to see so I could praise the two, made us feel very valued as customers. We will definitely be back! read more

I went here with my boyfriend last week and won't be back. I could not believe the prices for our food and how little portions were served. We're very healthy eaters and thought to go here for a simple meal. He ordered the house salad with chicken. 20+ dollars. For that much money there better be a whole entire chicken breast and a decently sized salad. Nope. The salad was TINY and the amount of chicken that came wasn't even a quarter of a chicken breast. Asked for an extra side of dressing the first person forgot and when we asked the server it took forever to bring it. Never got waters refilled. It's like we were an after thought. My teriyaki bowl was nothing special either and could have been more robust. Having worked for Sam Fox I am disappointed in this restaurant and wish it were better. They sure know how to do business by charging as much as they do for as little as guests get in return. Went to El charro last night completely different experience service was so much better and portions were so much bigger for the amount they charge. read more

We found this recently opened restaurant by chance after a late morning hike. The hostesses seemed unsure if they had any open tables even though a quick glance showed some available. We waited while one went to check and disappeared behind the cookbook display, which made me question if we needed reservations. As I mentioned this visit was not planned, but we were eventually seated in a small booth by the front window which allowed us to view people dining outdoors. Our waitress, Maria, greeted us almost immediately with menus and took our drinks order. She explained the restaurant concept and the chef's use of seasonal ingredients and mentioned her favorite dishes. I thought some of the ingredient pairings were unusual and interested in trying them. We decided on the edamame dumplings for an appetizer, and the O.G. and Peruvian burgers with the fingerling potatoes. The dumplings arrived with minimal wait and the temperature was perfect. I was concerned about the Thai basil but everything was well balanced. We did order two orders of the dumplings as one order consisted of three dumplings. My girlfriend enjoyed it immensely. Another server brought our burgers, but there was never a time when we were left waiting. The option of the herb-roasted fingerling potatoes intrigued me and they did not disappoint. They were the perfect bite size, crispy and well-seasoned and gave the whole dish a rustic feel. My first bite of the O.G. burger was simply amazing. The meat was perfectly cooked, seasoned, and complemented so well with the umami and caramelized onions. I did get one bite that was heavily salted but other than that it was so savory. I should add that both burgers were cooked medium per the chef's suggestion. With regards to the Peruvian burger, my girlfriend is usually disappointed when she orders a burger with an egg as it is often than not overcooked. This was the exception, the egg burst with the first bite and dripped delicately providing layered flavors. The flaxseed bun provided some texture and held everything perfectly until the last bite. Even though we were full we agreed to taste the Chocolate Pot de Crème dessert with a hazelnut mocha. I found the portion of the mocha to be on the large side and personally did not like the sprinkled cinnamon on top. The texture was so silky and smooth which I was later told that it contained tofu. A pleasant surprise as it was not listed in the ingredients. The dessert was portioned nicely for two people. Visually it was very appealing with the dark color of the chocolate contrasted with the red of the strawberries and pop of colors with the mint and zest. The mint combination was very refreshing with the strawberry while not being overpowering. It was a wonderful end to our meal. I would suggest visiting during lunch since the evening hours will most likely be packed given how new this restaurant is. Sat outdoors in a booth and was quite comfortable. Chose a glass of wine but they substituted another since they were out of my choice. Service was very friendly and on point. I ordered the quinoa teriyaki bowl with vegetables and was a bit disappointed. The presentation itself did not look appetizing, just very brown overall. The beans and snow peas were crisp and tasty but the rest of the veggies were pretty much indistinguishable and mixed into the quinoa. There were few contrasting flavors or textures and the Magic Dust was scant as well. May return to try other vegetarian options to improve on the just "good " rating. read more
