I've had plates, sandwiches and potatoes at this location and the food is always really good.....though for the price, they could put a little more into their servings/portions. Where I feel this place is seriously lacking is their desserts. Whoever is making them seriously needs to get some additional training. Their banana pudding is nothing more than cool whip with no banana slices and generic cookies that are as hard as a rock. I was quite impressed with the food here. The brisket (lean) was juicy, well seasoned, and flavorful. Lean brisket can be a tough call as it tends to be on the dry side, but this was perfect. The turkey was excellent as well. Again, the right amount of moisture and flavor. As for the sides, the potato salad and bbq beans were great. The green beans were a bit underwhelming in flavor and texture however; a tad on the hard side. I prefer my green beans to be nice and soft. As for dessert, the banana pudding had a great taste, but I was pretty disappointed by the fact that they lined the bottom of the container with the wafers so there was actually not much pudding at all. Probably the biggest disappointment of the meal. Other than that, everything was delicious. 4 stars due to the banana pudding, or else it would've been 5! read more

The bbq is great and the cream corn was the best in San Antonio until they recently changed the recipe. The new cream corn is spicy and has no flavor. Now that the cream corn is horrible this place isn't worth the visit with the other bbq restaurants in the area. read more

This is by far the best place to get Banana Pudding!!!! Secondly the sandwiches and baked potatoes are the bomb dot com, I see most of these reviews are when then first opened. Warning though if you go later on in the evening be prepared that they will run out of popular menu items. All in all it's very delicious and I recommend this place. read more

I am not one to ever write a review but I feel so disappointed I thought I should to let HEB know how trouble our bbq tonight (9/30) at 7pm was. We purchased a pound of brisket two sausage links and two medium sides. Total $41.50 which is a high but not outrageous if the bbq is good. I got home 10 mins max opened our food and yuck. The brisket paper was socked. At first I thought it was just hot but as I picked the brisket up oil dripped from each piece. The consistency of the meat was mushy and inedible. The two sausage links were so dry the dog didn't want them. The sides I had no problem. My husbands comment was "the convenience store hot dog has to be better than this" So disappointed. Will not return. This is the third time I have been there. The other two were great but they were out of almost all choices both times. I shop HEB weekly and I know they take great pride in their products. This was really bad! read more

The food here is good. Like very good. My family and I I've very close and eat here extremely often. The cornbread, delicious. The turkey, yum. The potatoes, the best. My only complaint is that they are ALWAYS out of food. I mean almost every single day they run out off something. Tried this place for the first time Saturday around 6:15 pm. Only two cars ahead of me in line to order food. This was very slow. When it was my turn no one asked for my order so I said I was ready. Girl said she would get back with me. I finally placed order for fatty brisket and brisket beans. When I came to window to pay and get my food, I saw sign that said you choose your barbeque sauce. I asked her what was in the bag and she said sweet. I said I wanted vinegar and she said oh that is what was put in the bag. When I got home, no bread pickles or onions to go along with the brisket even though receipt showed those items. The brisket and beans were amazing. The service was poor. Again, why try to mess with a classic. Banana pudding does NOT have coconut in it. Macaroni and cheese was amazing though. I'm glad I got the pint so I had leftovers. I feel the need to adjust my review. Not shortly after posting this, I was contacted by the owner. She is what customer service should be about. It could be the best food in the world, but if the staff/manager/owner are rude and nasty, I wouldn't return. In this case, I wasn't impressed by the food, but I am certainly impressed by the response I received. And something should be said about that. I wish them all the best in the future! I had a Favor order from this place last week. They were out of most of what we ordered at 6:30 on a Friday night. They were out of baked potatoes, sausage, ribs, whole chickens and mashed potatoes. First of all, you're attached to an HEB...go get potatoes when you see you're going to run out! It is poor management to not set your employees up to succeed. Instead they get annoyed customers, because whoever does the ordering for the restaurant doesn't know how much of what to order. So I had a pulled pork sandwich which was completely inedible from the inordinate amount of grease. I blotted it a couple times, to no avail. My husband had the brisket. Bill Miller's has better. The creamed corn tasted curdled. The cream part was a little lumpy. The mac and cheese was decent and the peach cobbler was excellent, which was the highlight. Well, we arrived today at 6:00pm on a Tuesday, $1 draft beer night. The food line was so long we waited to order. Ordered a regular frozen margarita from a separate register where there really wasn't a line. The margarita tasted like soda, or metal. Eight people in our group said exactly the same thing. Horrible. Manager told us they are made with wine and there is no tequila in them. What? That's not a margarita!!!! What in the world? Tested a strawberry Margarita, it was the same color and taste as the first. My drink preference is red wine, they do not sell wine at all. We got in line at 7:00 to place our food order. Fifteen people in line, took 27 minutes to get to the (single), register they had operating!!!! Just as we were next to place our order, an employee came out and announced the list of meats they were out of. . . Which was most of it. After dinner we tried to order cobbler, out of two of those flavors. The food we did get was good. The place was clean, employees pleasant but could be more attentive (When I finally got the the register, the employee's back was to me, having a discussion with another employee totally unrelated to taking my order). I live very close to True Texas BBQ and was very excited when I learned of the opening. Being a connoisseur and aspiring pit master I feel informed and qualified about what is good BBQ. To establish a scale of 1-10 for comparison The McRibs sandwich being a 1 and Lockhart establishments Kreutz, Blacks and Muellers being a 8.75, I rank True Texas a range of 5 on their off days and 6.25 on their very rare good days. The brisket is edible to better than Bill Miller's and Grady's. The pork is better than the brisket which is a sad statement considering Texas should do brisket better. The sides are better than the meat. I plan to update this review but after 11 trips there 1/2 of the time they are out of turkey, brisket,chicken and potatoes by 7pm. So above average meat when available and good sides. read more
