I used the drive thru this time and when I got home ... absolutely fabulous and I DID get my coveted banana pudding! Yesterday i came and ordered dinner got home and my bbq sandwich was missing. Hands down our favorite bbq in town. Every type of meat we've tried (have tried all of it) is perfection. It impressed out of town guests as well. Creamed corn is awesome, except we wish there was a less spicy version offered for those who can't handle the extra kick. Brisket beans are fantastic. Men in the house loved and gushed over , but could barely finish the monster El Jeffe. Banana pudding to die for too. Only real complaint is the price. I know, for great bbq, it will cost. Stumbled into this place today and I ended up having a great meal. I ordered the three piece ribs and they were cooked to dang near perfection. The ribs were easy to chew and they gave off a great sweet flavor. For one of them I didn't even use BBQ Sauce because it was so good on its own & trust me I use BBQ Sauce a lot. The young lady at the counter (I believe her name was Yasmyn) was very kind and helpful. Will be back to have some more of those delicious ribs!!! read more

Despite the growing pains from the first few weeks of opening where the wait was excessive and constantly out of food, we thought the food was very good after 2-3 visits including a big party tray order. I was very disappointed the last time I went since they told me they were basically out of everything in my order AFTER I placed the order. It took them another 15 minutes just to issue a refund. Two weeks after that affair, I decided to give it another try during off-peak hours. This time, there was no wait and they had almost everything (they were out of brisket beans). We ate the food at home and everything was delicious. Fast forward a few hours in the middle of the night, I started getting stomach discomfort. I had to get out of bed and vomit which never happens to me. The next morning, my wife had diarrhea and vomited as well. It's safe to say that we won't be going back. read more

When I dream of bbq, the entrance to True Texas appears in a cloud above my head. It rivals ANY bbq joint in San Antonio - in fact, in this girl's humble opinion, it delivers the best in the city. Their brisket checks all the boxes - tender, juicy, char and smoke. The smoked turkey - same. Coleslaw is fresh, and incidentally, their pickles and onions are always top notch and freshly prepared. Their sauces are spot on, whether it's the Texas or Sweet, either one is excellent. I'm perplexed at the negative reviews about this barbeque gold mine. If you sit down to the table here and aren't attacking your plates, you don't know good barbeque. Keep up the good work, because we'll be back. read more

Compared to Bill Miller's this place beats them hands down. Not sure about customer service but the flavor of the meat is good however, can someone please explain WHY the meat is ALWAYS so GREASY?!?!?!?!? Not just a little bit of grease but dripping with grease even the baked potatoes with no meat was swimming in grease by the time I got home. It makes eating the food unbearable. I ordered the lean brisket which was incredibly dry and the ribs. The flavor was great but watching the grease ooze out every time I dug my fingers into a rib, I couldn't finish any of my food. I pretty much am giving up on this place. The "natural brisket" is horrid (80% fat) so I try and avoid it at all cost. I specifically have ordered "lean brisket" twice in the last month for my baked potato. Both times the clerk didn't put down "lean brisket." However, at least the first time, the clerk yelled out to the staff in the back to make it "lean." Today a different clerk (I think she was new" didn't put down lean either. I told her about it and she said she had put it down. I was maybe assuming that she communicated about it to the staff in the back with a written code/message. Nope. They threw on the most horrid fatty brisket I've ever had. The baked potato itself was overdone with the potato almost having the consistency of "mashed potatoes." If you told me 2 years ago I would prefer Bill Miller brisket over True Texas BBQ brisket I would have told you you were nuts. But such is the case. The guy at the register was in a bad mood, I order to go, pay and ask him if he can add sour cream and bbq sauce he told me I could get the bbq myself and for sour cream they charge for it, that I should it told him before. This is the BBQ restaurant inside the new HEB on Bulverde Rd. Don't come here if you're starving and in a hurry. Line was long. Cashiers were slow, timid and hard of hearing. I understand if you're new as a cashier but perhaps experienced cashiers should be on hand around busy times. And it will be busy round the clock in your grand opening week. 3 registers won't be enough with only 1 or 2 cashiers actually working. I ordered a sliced beef brisket sandwich. It came with 2 big chunks of brisket. I had to slice it myself just to be able to eat it. I'm no Dagwood. Brisket had a nice char but a bit dry. My husband ordered a pulled pork sandwich. There's something for the whole family here, my brother is a vegetarian and gets a large Mac&cheese and btw is some of the BEST Mac I've had!!
