Came here for the first time because of the great yelp reviews and we were in the area. I ordered a Rosa's sandwich on squaw bread with all the trimmings except pepproncini. Our sandwiches were made pretty fast while we waited and the cashier was super nice in helping us decide what to order, since we had never been before. We took our sandwiches to go and when I went to eat mine I noticed they had gotten the trimmings all wrong. I had to pick off all the pepproncinis and missed the taste of the tomato, onion and such because it just wasn't there. The sandwich was good, but would have been better if it was how I ordered it. Was a little sad that on the first visit they got my order wrong. My husband loved his and it was correct, plus we both got mini cookies that were great! Just wish I got what I ordered! read more

Had the Kelly's Classic sandwich for lunch with my brother. Very fresh and great mix of tuna salad. Really great bread. We asked for the large size and brought half home. The regular would have been enough to share. Can't wait to go back and try something different. read more

Had a delish sandwich called rosa's best with turkey, avocado, bacon and... it supposed to come with provolone but I like to keep things spicy so I swapped it for pepper Jack. So good. My dad had the same and couldn't finish it as he got full from one half of his (these sandwiches are big) so I ate his leftovers later as well. Don't tell him though. Great assortment of chips as well. My mom had their chicken salad sandwich and it was so flavorful. We will definitely come back soon! Ordered the Meatball Sandwich and was disappointed. Meatball and Sauce was good but really needs more Parmesan melted. But the thing that really was disappointing was that the bread was NOT heated at all. Pro Tip, once you load the the roll please pop in the oven for 30 seconds. The place is a bit dated in décor, but the food came out quickly, correct and was delicious. I got the "Cheat a little sandwich" which is exactly as pictured! A bit of a mess to eat but everything tasted fresh. I was a little shocked at the price for a large ~ $15 but it was perfect for two at lunchtime. read more

Amazing service and great food!! There was 3 of us so we got 3 sandwiches. 1. Humpty Mermaid, albacore, and egg salad. The sandwich was . 2. Turkey avocado, fire!!! 3. Tuna melt with everything. I probably had too high of an expectation based on the 5 stars on Yelp. We ordered the Santa Rosa and Tutors Special. Things I liked: Staff was very friendly and didn't rush us. They sell deli meats. Cute store with lots of things to look at while you wait. Choice of bread, and they have squaw bread! The meat on the tutor special was better than average. You can walk to some benches and eat while looking out at the harbor and ocean. Things I was not keen on: I asked for no lettuce or tomato, but I got both. The avocado tasted like the spread stuff you buy in the grocery store refrigerator. They don't do a traditional vinegar and oil. (They advised me of this but I tried it anyway) I might try them again in the future, there is something about the meat on the tutor special that piqued my interest but it was overwhelmed by what seemed like a full head of shredded lettuce that I really didn't like. I double checked the ticket attached to my sandwich and it definitely said no lettuce or tomato. Hubby says it's a solid 3.5 - 4 stars, but until he gets his own Yelp account, I'd have to go solid 3. read more

Sorry for the two stars We've been coming here for many years. I have to say my husband and I were both very disappointed in our sandwiches today. One large, one regular sandwich and one bottle of water was $36 ! I got the Jay Bird roast beef and my husband got the Teresa turkey. There was barely any meat on either sandwich but tons of lettuce. The roll was soft and spongy (like a subway roll) and barely any condiments. We both immediately mentioned the quality was not the same as we remembered. Probably won't be going back. read more

Spent $50 on 3 sandwiches. Got home, one was wrong with mustard all over it. At $17 I was not going to throw it away, so I called the store and they didn't believe me. I asked for a new one and they told me to bring the old one in for proof. Ok. Drove 10 minutes back to their store where they gave me a dirty look, never apologized, and shoved a subpar new sandwich with old, brown avocado at me. There was only 1 gal in front of me and no to go orders yet... -its very mom and pop which I love.. the work flow however of who does what needs some major TLC. You can tell they have summer student help and some old timer staff. They should almost have 2 assembly lines.. 1 for to go and 1 for at the counter. And rework where the food items are.. they all looked like the were tripping over each other.. A tweak in operations and this place could be cranking and humming along. Whoever is your bread and produce supplier is ON POINT. Bravo for some amazing fresh foods and amazing produce. Veggies are the star here! I will be back when passing by Dana point north or south. Great place after visiting baby beach! It wasn't busy around late afternoon which was nice! I ordered an Irene (turkey salami) with all toppings on a French roll. They have other bread options to fit different preferences. A couple of two seat tables were outside for guest to enjoy their sandwich. This is a pretty basic deli shop, but what's different than the franchise sandwich shops is the ingredients taste fresher. I recommend this place if you are visiting Dana Point. read more

Wow, how this deli has fallen from greatness to below average. We have been patrons for many years and stop in whenever we can. Well, we stopped in today and ordered the usual Derek special on new bread or baked. They did not know what type of bread I was talking about! Apparently, they no longer make their own and buy cheap everyday bread. Now, the meat, barely any turkey or roast beef (had to show how little was on the sandwich. They also heated/toasted for some reason, not mine, did not ask for a heated sandwich. Such a bland sandwich to come out of a once fantastic, full of flavor deli. I am so disappointed in this place. I literally paid almost $30 with tip for two small cups of chili, a meatball sandwich and a side salad. I was expecting homemade Italian meatballs, but they are FROZEN meatballs from COSTCO!!! WTF. They taste so processed and we're not even warmed up enough. Have you ever had those frozen meatballs at Trader Joe's that the sample lady hands out which taste like mystery meat? That's what these taste like. Total bullshit that I fed that to my kid because he was starving and ate it. A small cup of chili with a side salad is $11! The cup of chili by itself is $4 so the side salad is basically $7. I've never in my life paid $7 for a freaking side garden salad of romaine lettuce at a little deli. The meal didn't even include a drink. Lots of cutting corners at this place and way overpriced. If this place was voted best sandwiches in Dana Point, your judges need new taste buds or they've never had a real Italian meatball sandwich. I would love to have my money back and that 40 minutes of my life back. I know the owner is going to respond with a corny response about how they strive to make their customers happy, no you don't. I've been going here for 18 years. My children and grandchildren live out of state. When they come in town this is the first place they like to go. We've been down 6 or 7 times since new owner's took over. Things change I know, but quality should not. Ordered an Italian sub, chicken noodle soup and a bottle of water. Came out to about $20. Their 8" is a really good size to share with someone but the quality is not there though. Some of the meat seemed border line soft/cheery and not firm. The lettuce was wilted with parts of it having brown coloration. The soup was cloudy like it was a day or two old and did not have much flavor. Thinking it was canned soup due to the grill marks on the chicken. People seem nice and the location is great for a nice place to sit and eat but unfortunately the food will keep me away. read more
