As a lover of all things burgers and fries, I had Uncle Boy's on the radar for a minute, and finally got to try it out this past weekend. Reading their business bio, they mention no frills, and that's exactly what I look for in a burger. Since it was my first time, I asked what they best thing on the menu. The answer I got was 'everything' which is my pet peeve of answers because let's be real, not everything on the menu can be A+. After a friendly back n forth, they recommended the 'El Jefe' because they liked spicy, which is exactly what I love as well. They use angus meat and the patties are pretty darn tasty. The bun could've used a little bit more toast, but the ingredients, sauces and overall flavor of the burger was pretty good. The size of the burger was good for a regular appetite, but for a big eater like me, I think I could go double patty if that's the option. Their fries I enjoyed as well. They were crispy and loaded with salt and pepper. I can see the amount of S&P being too much for some, but it was perfect for me. Better to have some seasoning than nothing at all. I asked for a side of ranch which comes in packet. I should've asked for the chipotle sauce because that's homemade and I kept hearing other ppl ask for it. Next time for sure. While I don't live in the neighborhood, this is one of those spots that if I did, I'd probably eat here once a week. No frills, good flavor, and good pricing. A big burger and fries was $14, which for San Francisco, I've paid a lot more and got a lot less. If you find yourself in the neighborhood, looking for a quick bite or needing to satisfy that burger craving, Uncle Boy's might be the best option for you. read more

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Great burgers but.... The guys behind counter just don't care. And so I can't reasonably ever come back. Best burger in SF? Not necessarily. But an all around SOLID choice especially consider how late this place is open and the surrounding options in the neighborhood (Richmond district). Ordered the cowboy burger and fries. Served fresh, hot and juicy cooked to a nice medium rare as requested. The fries were also fresh and crispy and generously portioned. Burgers - 3.5 Onion rings - 5 Fries - 3.5 This is my neighborhood burger joint and the burgers are decent, but there are many other things to love about this place. The onion rings are BOMB, great tasting batter and they break cleanly when you bite them - 5 stars on their own. I like that they season their fries. I find that the burgers can be a little inconsistent, sometimes overly salty and the bun is a little dry. But I see the appeal of these old-school kind of burgers that are affordable and decent-sized. They have outdoor seating and are open suuper late. I was watching Carrie on Sex and the City get down with a hamburger and fries and suddenly needed one myself. My friend got a burger from here when he was visiting years ago and couldn't stop talking about it-- so I got delivery from their website, they forgot to include the sauces I paid for, but nonetheless the OG burgers we ordered were delicious! The buns were fluffy and the patty perfectly cooked and scrumptious. Be specific when your order your toppings. I ordered grilled onions assuming that they wouldn't put the raw red onions, but I got both (I'm not complaining, I love onions, but if you're picky, then be specific). I also enjoyed the French fries! They were yummy, very savory. Really good burgers, favorite is el jefe. Their barbecue sauce that they use adds a lot flavor, on top of a well-seasoned patty. The burgers are well wrapped so you don't get too messy while eating. Orders come out fast and good service as well. Third trip and I'm never disappointed. Have tried all 3 burgers they offer: OG (w/grilled onions and bacon), Cowboy, and El Jefe. The buffets are cooked beautifully. The grill makes all the difference it's something about that open flame. The Jefe felt like it was missing something I'm not sure what. It's not spicy just really flavorful. Really disappointed in this spot. 4 star burger joint, what could possibly go wrong? Cowboy Burger: Started with a dry, stale bun which you can tell just by looking at it once you've bitten in. Burger was over cooked, really lacking that juicy bite you'd want when going in. Was hoping for more of a crunchy texture with the onion rings but they were pretty much nonexistent inside and soggy inside. Felt like they were just sitting around for the longest time waiting to be dumped onto the next Cowboy Burger. Read another review from a "longtime customer" that they switched to frozen bagged onion rings. The sauce did it's best to possibly save this cowboy but the rodeo ended before it started. This is a sympathy four star review. It was kind of sad to see all three businesses across the street shut down. I hope Uncle Boy's can stay. We used to come here years ago. Ordering in person at their terminal felt impersonal. The workers were busy having a conversion with themselves and ignoring the customers. No hellos or help with ordering. I had the O.G. burger $9.50 and onion rings $9. My order was for dine-in and they put it a brown paper bag and they didn't ask if I wanted water or anything else and went back to joking with the other employees. They don't bring the food out to the parklet. I'm not sure why I tipped. It is one of those fallacies where the option to tip is at the counter and not after the meal. The little 4oz burger tasted OK. It tasted like a Jumbo Jack but with a toasted bun and whole slice of red onion. I really should have went up to Laurel Village and had a Super Duper burger instead. The hamburgers here are pretty good and pricing is reasonable at $8 for a regular nicely grilled burger on a brioche bun, tomato, lettuce, pickles. Cheese is $1 extra. The burger is definitely better than McDonald's or Burger King. The fries are OK but not great. I liked the onion rings a lot. A lot of take out from phone in orders. Saw all the reviews on Yelp and knew I had to try this place. My hubby stopped by to bring me lunch to the hospital. They were out of mozzarella stick and onion rings by 1:30pm. Managed to get some fries which was really solid. Got the OG burger which I appreciate had the flame grilled flavor but burger was dry overall. Onions were pretty sharp and I was left with major onion breath. I can see how this would be a cool spot to visit if it was in my neighborhood and based on other reviews seems to be a hit or miss. read more

I love burgers and places like this just warm my heart and tummy. The prices were on point not too pricey and the quality of the meat and everything we had was more than I expected. The western burger was big and meaty and so flavorful. The fries were seasoned well. And omg the onion rings was plenty for 4 of us to share. Man these burgers were pretty disappointing. Far from good like all the reviews. It comes out sloppy as shit just like a burger king burger. Grilled chicken sandwich was wack. Came out dry as hell. For what I spent here I could have went to nations and had a way better testing burger that wasn't so messy. As for the service it was just as wack. One of, if not, the only place open for a late-night meal in the Richmond neighborhood. They are POC-owned, make great burgers, and have decent prices. They even have lumpia, I've never tried it though. My go-to is the Cowboy Burger - and sometimes fries.
