I first came here around opening weekend and it was absolutely packed. I arrived about 20 minutes before opening and still ended up waiting close to two hours. The experience back then honestly wasn't great. The food was very bland and pretty disappointing overall. I decided to give it another shot today and ordered some same and some similar items as before. This time around, the food tasted completely different, which makes me think they were just too slammed and not yet properly trained during opening weekend. The most obvious improvement was the Hong Kong Style Milk Puff. The first time I had it, it tasted like soggy white bread. This time it was actually fried and coated in sugar, which made it way better - huge improvement. The restaurant decor is very hip and gram-worthy, and all the dishes I ordered were visually appealing. That said, even with the improvements, nothing really stood out flavor wise. I'm glad I gave it another chance, but it's probably not somewhere I'd return to regularly. Maybe I'll check back in a few more months to see if things continue to improve. read more

I had been meaning to try this new place as a group for a while and was hoping it wouldn't be crowded on Super Bowl Sunday, but I was sooo wrong. We arrived at the plaza around 12:30 pm to put our name on the list, and we were #15 on the list. Overall, it took 30-40 minutes for us to enter the restaurant, and by then, the podium to waitlist yourself was removed around 1:15 pm. Inside was cute and fairly clean. We were quickly seated at the table. You scan a QR code for the menu, and there is the option to set a specific order to go. Overall, we ordered 4 drinks, 5 dishes, and one dessert. I don't know if this is important to anyone, but they have lemon in their iced water. 1) HK-style baked pork chop with tomato sauce: 3.5/5 I love Hong Kong-style baked pork chop, and while this would satisfy a craving, it wasn't the best one I ever had. It was very tomato-forward, and there are other vegetables in here that I wasn't expecting. The pork was good, meaty, and boneless. Taste-wise, the dish was lighter than I expected. 2) Yangzhou Fried Rice: 4/5 I was surprised how good this was because it looked so plain. The flavor was good, and it had that "wok-hay". I would recommend trying this at least once because if I wanted to order fried rice, this is the kind of fried rice I would want. 3)Sizzling Beef Satay Noodles: 4/5 Noodles were stir-fried with instant noodle but since it was on the sizzling plate, part of it was crispy. The difference in texture was pleasant, and it was well seasoned. The beef was super tender. 4) Beef Udon with Tomato Curry: 3/5 Nothing special? Reminded me of golden curry, so it was comforting, but you're not missing out on anything. The beef was cooked well. 5)Ducky Milky Dudu: 3.5/5 Really light milk taste and not too sweet. Subtle enough that it tastes like boiled milk, so there's not much sugar, and the duck seemed to be made out of marshmallow? It was a very light dessert and might not be everyone's taste. 6) Grass Jelly Mega Ball Milk Tea: 4/5 This was a fun drink. Milk tea was sweet and tea-forward, but I enjoyed eating the grass jelly balls. But it was not the best milk tea, and the main selling point was the giant grass jelly. 7) Garlic stir-fried pea sprouts: 5/5 I love pea sprouts, so my reviews would be biased. This was the palate cleanser I needed after all the heavy dishes. Tender and has a bite to it. It was well-cooked, garlic was too heavy, and the pea sprouts weren't swimming in oil,l which was all I could ask for. Overall, the service was amazing, but the food was okay. This place is all over TikTok. There's a good chance you've seen it there or suggested to on your Instagram explore page. It's therefore what one of my friends would call a "TikTok place", drawing crowds after being popularized by social media. But does it live up to the hype? I've been here twice. I've tried a variety of dishes here now after coming with my parents, but the items I've ordered for myself specifically have been the sizzling cheese chicken burger, the baked porkchop with tomato sauce and cheese over spaghetti, the Hong Kong style milk tea, and the Hong Kong lemon tea, plus the Hong Kong milk puff and the mini Hong Kong French toast. The food has all been solid. The pork chop is baked to perfection with the cheese and tomato sauce being absolutely delicious and the spaghetti soaking up all the delicious flavors. The chicken burger was a bit messy but was very tasty and enhanced by the sizzling cheese sauce. The drinks here are pretty good, though the Hong Kong milk tea isn't quite as strong as some places in Oakland's and SF's Chinatowns. The dessert items have all been great, a nice crisp texture with just the right touch of sweetness. The restaurant is table service with QR code ordering and feels pretty casual. Servers are responsive if you have a request I can't think of many other Hong Kong Cafes in the South Bay before this one despite there definitely being an audience for it, so it's filling in a spot for a cuisine that could be in demand. There are marginally more affordable places in SF Chinatown and Oakland Chinatown, but if you're a South Bay resident you probably aren't going there very often. Because it's all over social media though, it gets a pretty long wait, at least during the weekends which is when I've been. If you have half an hour to spare and needed to take a look around 99 Ranch anyway, then it is probably fine, that's how I spent my waiting time the last couple of visits. If you're impatient and don't like waits you probably want to go at a less busy time and wait to see if they hype dies down for weekends So is it worth it? Did TikTok get it right? I thought with all the buzz around this place all over social media, it must be good! But I think the over saturation for this place got my hopes up waaay too high. They replaced the pepper lunch so the restaurant is quite small inside. The wait was still 35-45 minutes even going on a random Wednesday after lunch time. The service was superb though. They were really nice, fast, and attentive with anything that was asked for/needed. As for the food, I think because it was a fusion HK cafe spot, they are still finding their signature taste so I would come back once they are fully settled in. The baked rice was pretty good quality at the first time, so we decided to go there for the second time. However, the experience was pretty bad. The chicken in the baked rice completely raw (seen in the photo). And the pork rib got no taste. It felt like a left-over piece of meat in a Chinese soup. Definitely didn't worth an hour of wait. You need to come and visit once. I have been here 3 times since it's opening and I've tried a variety of food. Yes, every time if you missed the first round, the wait is about 45 mins. This is a fusion cafe. Mostly Japanese and Chinese. I think the menu is super creative and that deserves the hype. However, the food itself is not wow. The pineapple bun is too dry. In general, the rice is a bit dry and hard and never enough sauce. Dessert was OK and it's fun that the "milk" flows out but the side of the toast is way too hard to chew. The soup was not bad but I don't need to order it next time. The drink is OK not the smoothest milk tea. The sizzling plate didn't come out sizzling though hot enough. I am waiting this place open for mouths since they are under construction. Pretty dinings environment, many hk style restaurants are busy and extremely noisy to talk but this place is good for me to enjoy food and chat with friends/ co workers. Tableware is pretty as well.
