Hosted a large party of ~40 people. Service was polite, experienced, and the entire operation was a well-oiled machine. The food was tasty, and went beyond the basics. Really enjoyed trying some different Thai dishes.
A fried put me on to this spot and it was spectacular! Super authentic Thai food. We got the curry puffs as a starter, the Kea Mao and Pad Phed Talay on the summer specials menu. Loved everything, especially the Pad Phed Talay. It's a variation of the Talay Thai on the regular menu except made with red curry and fresh green peppercorns which adds a mild fruity, bright herbal flavor and citrusy notes to the dish. The sauce was rich and aromatic. One of the best bites I've had in NYC this trip!
Up Thai located on the upper east side offers a great Thai menu. A very modern and warm dining environment with it being a little upscale but not feeling like you are out of place as well. It can be a causal or a nice date night spot. The menu featuring a unique Thai style street food options, modern classic dishes, and classic cocktail options. The service was great and all of the food was delicious with great flavor.
Absolutely incredible Thai cuisine. Been eating here for the past 5 years and it never disappoints! The flavors are immaculate and perfect. Service is great, can get busy however staff is friendly. Even when ordering through third party delivery services, it never lacks in quality. Love the basil fried rice, red and green curry. Interior is gorgeous.
Still Good Thai food in one of the prettiest restaurants. There are plenty of Thai places on the Upper East Side and this is one is pretty solid. Panang Curry - a Thai curry with a creamy coconut texture and a sweet, aromatic spicy flavor. Thai Basil Shrimp - nice and spicy with string beans, peppers and fresh basil. Service was friendly but there were 4 of us and 2 dishes came came to the table a good 5-6 minutes before the others so by the time everyone got their food and we started eating, mine was not as hot as I would have liked. It was still really good!
I came here with two close friends for dinner. We hadn't seen each other for a long time and we were looking forward to catching up over a nice dinner. We ordered an appetizer, some drinks and three main courses. The food was fine. I would say that the soft shell crab and duck tamarind are a bit too aggressively flavored. The crab meat fried rice was good but not too impressive. I found it a bit pricey. The ambience was nice. For some reason, the waitress serving our table kept on rushing us from the beginning to the end of the meal. As we sat down, three of us chatted a little bit and she kept on asking us to order, which we understood and we made the decisions quickly as soon as we noticed that she was pressing us. Before we finished our meal, she hovered around us and asked us multiple times if we need to pack the food. We were very uncomfortable, and had to rush into finishing up the meal and to pack the food. We saw some empty tables around us, and we also didn't see any line as we left the restaurant. Unfortunately, it was really not a nice experience for us. We didn't feel welcome there, only rushed. Overall, the food was okay, and the service was really disappointing. We don't feel like it was worth the money we spent. We won't come back again.
The line gets very long here, so I would definitely recommend making a reservation beforehand. The restaurant looks small and unassuming from outside, but is very cute, spacious, and well-decorated once you enter. I really liked the similan curry. It was sweet and creamy with the perfect touch of spice. It came with a sweet pickled cucumber salad, which paired well with the curry, as well as roti and rice. The pad kee mao didn't stand out to me as much, but was still solid. Overall, pretty good thai food at an affordable price.
Up Thai is beautiful inside and I have no complaints about the service. I found the food I ordered to be incredibly sweet - almost inedible. Their gluten free options are great, but compared to other Thai food I've had, this was subpar.
As someone who grew up hating Thai food without ever eating it. This was my first foray into it and it was amazing. Been back almost 5 times. Up Thai is extremely good and is able to leave me and everyone I've brought since satisfied and wanting more. This food is honestly crazy
Restaurant is very spacious in its location and has a very quiet ambience to it. I was very surprised to see the decor when we ate-- i just wasn't expecting it to be so nice. Not a place where you have to be too dressy so do not worry. The service was fast and the servers were so nice. They were also very helpful in any questions we had. We ordered the steamed mussels for an appetizer and it was good. I think it just isn't as fulling as i would want it to be for a shared appetizer so i prob would have gone with something else next time. We shared pad Thai with mock duck (WOW! Never had duck on pad Thai i went to Thailand) -- def a game changer. We also had the kea mao with beef which is flat noodles either some spice to it which also was delicious. The last meal we shared was the kana moo krab which was rice with and egg, steamed Chinese broccoli and pork. I always love to get a Thai iced tea when I'm in one of these restaurants and we also shared the lychee iced tea which was good but a little sweet (in case that's some thing you look out for). Definitely a spot i would go to again
From the minute we stepped into UpThai to check in, to the friendliness of the staff, the menu recommendations and the authenticity of the food, the incredible flavor on all dishes we enjoyed to the time we spent without rush - an experience I can only recommend when in the city. I have been a customer of UpThai for a few years whenever I come to town and the consistency is yet another reason to recommend it. The team cares, the food is amazing and options are plenty. All at a decent price. And please do try all of the duck dishes. Hands down out of this world. Go team UpThai!
A book club friend recommended this spot and I am so glad she did!! From the outside, you would not realize how cute the restaurant is inside. I dined solo at the bar which was an amazing experience. The bartenders and staff were very welcoming and attentive. The food was incredible - I got their mango avocado salad to start which was so refreshing and flavorful. I got the massaman curry with the crispy duck and boy was that good. The food was so good. Would definitely go back! They do a lot of takeout orders as well!

This is more like a 3.5 star review. I had such high expectations of Up Thai based on Google, yelp, and the rave reviews from friends. Honestly speaking, I wasn't moved by anything that I ate. Everyone talks about how exceptional the food is here and that just wasn't my experience. I came here last Saturday for dinner with a girlfriend of mine and we made a reservation for 6pm. It was originally for indoor seating, but I was about 20 minutes late so we opted to sit outside instead. You might be able to walk in, but I HIGHLY recommend making a reservation. Food: For an appetizer, I ordered the curry puffs which were ok, but had a weird texture gooey on the inside. My friend and I both ordered the Paloma paradise drink which was pretty and tasted ok. For the main course, I ordered the massaman curry with crispy duck, which I wasn't wowed by. For me, the duck was cooked too hard which made it dry. Service: The service was average and nothing really out of the ordinary. No one really went above and beyond. Not sure if I went on an off day, but I probably wouldn't return. read more
We came here late on a Saturday night around 9:30pm. The place was still buzzing, we got a seat at the bar. Lots of choices of dishes. My husband wanted broad noodles and went with Kea Mao, aka Drunken Noodles. I went with Moo Dang, which had three different meats; roasted bbq pork, crispy pork belly and Chinese sausage with a hard boiled egg, rice and a thick gravy - it reminded me a little of Loco Moco. This restaurant was crowded on a Saturday line. You can't miss the fairly large line outside either waiting for a table or for takeout. The lady that checks you in is outside, kinda annoying when it's cold. We got there 10minutes early for our reservation and she said we were too early. She kinda got nasty with use for entering the restaurant before waiting to be called - only to be mistaken because her colleague called us in for our reservation. So... don't enter unless given the go ahead. The restaurant, although small, is beautifully designed. Seating is a bit tight, as customers and servers frequently bump pass each other. The food is worth the trip. The pad see ew was well seasoned and cooked. Not as salty and sweet as other places, which IMO is great. The up Thai spring rolls are very good. They are jammed packed with their special mixture of veggies and seafood. Calamari was solid, nothing to rave about. The rotti and the duck is also very good, their take on Peking duck. Short ribs has a bit of kick to it, but the coconut milk based sauce is amazing. Although we finished up the short ribs - which fall right off the bone - we had them back up the sauce. Fried branzino was incredible. Well seasoned, well fried. Lastly, we got the crab fried rice. Very well executed as well. Overall, excellent food, a little tight with the space, annoying check in. read more
went today during their lunch hours to try their lunch special, which ranged from $15-$20 depending on which protein you picked. each entree comes with a soup/salad and an appetizer of choice. both entrees were nothing extraordinary, but were pretty solid dishes for the price. the pla saam ross was spectacular. the fish was perfectly crispy and coated with a delicious sweet and spicy sauce, with a hint of sour from the tamarind. wish there was a bit a more sauce, but i still loved the dish. the spacing between the tables is a bit small and some tables were separated by a plastic, transparent board. wait time wasn't crazy for a friday afternoon but it can definitely get busy! read more

Amazing Thai in UES!! The spring rolls & curry puffs are a must. I've tried different things on my various visits, but the basil fried rice and pad se-ew are favorite! Pad Thai also top contender. Serving sizes are great. Yuzu lemonade also delicious !! read more

I came to Up Thai with my boyfriend with a reservation. They only seat you if the entire party is present. We ordered the massaman curry with crispy duck, pad see ew with beef, and eggplant basil with pork. The food all came out really quickly. Everything was so yummy. My favorite was the curry with duck. The duck skin was so crispy. It was also great bang for your buck, around $80 post tax and tip for the 3 entrees. The only thing I'll note is that the space is pretty intimate. I felt like I was going to bump into the waiters a couple times. read more

All the dishes were super tasty and flavorful! We sat in the coffee shop next to the main restaurant and it was nice because it was a little smaller and quiet. Our waiter was really friendly and helped us pick some extra dishes when we couldn't decide. This is a great Thai restaurant and I would definitely recommend! read more

Up Thai has delicious Thai food. I came here for lunch and ordered their pad Thai with chicken and it was phenomenal. I liked their vegetable soup and chicken and shrimp dumplings. The service was great and attentive. I wasn't rushed whatsoever and I didn't feel like they were constantly checking in. I would definitely recommend coming here for some delicious food. Up Thai is a busy restaurant with people dining in and ordering takeout and delivery. 10/10 Thai restaurant recommendation The ambiance felt chill since it was lunch time but I have walked by when there are people waiting for seating outside the restaurant it's a popular busy restaurant and rightfully so since the food is superb! read more
Oh my goodness. This place has made my personal Top 5 Restaurants of All Time list. From the food to the service, Up Thai is EXCEPTIONAL! FOOD: I ordered the Thai-herbed Wings to start and they were incredible - flavorful and unique! The Pad Thai didn't blow me out of the water, but it was still satisfactory. The Curry (pictured) was what blew me away. I forgot the exact name of the dish (maybe Similan), but I believe it was the chef's recommendation. The flavors were FLAVORING, the roti was crispy yet soft, and the portion was great. We also ordered the fried rice & meat dish pictured that was a fan favorite at my table. Lastly, the Taro Sticky Rice dessert... DELICIOUS! I'm not usually the biggest taro fan, but I had to admit that this dessert was light and perfect without being too sweet. SERVICE/AMBIENCE: The interior was really cool & dimly lit at night. It was lively and all servers were very attentive. Our server, Ome made our experience over-the-top. He cleaned up every minor spill he saw on our table and was constantly checking in. He was probably the best server I've ever had at a restaurant, ever. Highly recommended Thai restaurant with a cute modern and dark atmosphere inside. We came around five on Friday and we're seated pretty quickly without any reservations. I got the panang chicken curry, which came with rice and it had a really great sweet flavor. They didn't skimp on the chicken and it was quite filling. Price point is a little bit higher than the average Thai takeout place, but you pay for the atmosphere. read more
We came for a friends birthday on a Friday night. This place was full to a brim so be sure to make a reservation ahead of time. We showed up about 10 minutes after our reservation time but we were lucky that they still had the table available for us (they informed us they were about to give it to a different group shortly). The staff there was very kind and flexible. One group member informed a waiter about our friends birthday and they provided a complementary cheesecake (which was fantastic). Our food was out and ready within 15ish minutes was quite fast. I ordered the similian curry special and I thought it was fantastic. Portions are large and all party members were happy with the amount. One of my favorite thai food dishes in NYC and based on how my friends described their meals I look forward to trying more items on the menu. The ambience is quite packed. Quite the crowd and nearly every seat was taken. There are 3 bathrooms that are all quite clean (one on the main floor, 2 downstairs). Nice and flexible service, surprisingly large crowd, and great food. I look forward to coming back at some point and trying more items on the menu. read more
Phenomenal Thai place, probably the best Thai food I have ever had. The red curry is so beautifully seasoned and spicy, I highly recommend it. The Thai fried rice is rich in vegetables, milder in flavor, perfect meal if you are hungover haha. We enjoyed some purple tea and I absolutely loved the Thai lemonade, yum!! Came back recently and tried one of their new summer dishes, braised beef curry and it was SO delicious. Would definitely recommend!! We also got the mussels which were so good I even asked the waiter to pack the broth up for me. The clay pot is always a favorite of mine because it's very savory. read more
Fantastic Bento Box. Awesome peanut sauce ( although when I asked for a little more because there was not enough in my dish they charged $2 extra??? The atmosphere was beautiful and the service good. Excellent service and food on an early Thursday evening. The restaurant is decorated with beautiful decor and the staff is courteous, attentive, and very helpful with the menu. The food was probably top 3 for Thai food in my opinion. Would definitely go back when in NYC again. read more

We order from Up Thai at least once a month, if not once a week. We've also dined in a few times and the takeout is just as good. They are extremely consistent and the food is always delicious. There has not been one time where I felt like Up Thai was not the greatest decision I ever made. I usually order their pad see ew but their crab fried rice is delicious. My husband frequently orders their kaprow and swears by it. I can genuinely find no fault in Up Thai. It's our go to thai spot in the upper east side where it can be a bit rare to find amazing asian food. I highly recommend Up Thai, there are a few other great thai spots around but TRUST ME - this one's the best. read more

This place is definitely one of my favorite thai places in NYC now. We got the spring rolls and padseew and pad thai and it was amazing. It is on the more spicy side manageable for sure. The price was a bit more than other thai places but I think it is still super worth it!! The restaurant as a whole is super cute too. A very nice theme overall. read more

Usually when I have high expectations I tend to ruin the experience but this place Blew my expectations out the water! Solid 4.5 stars! Ordered from the lunch menu. Panang beef curry and pad Thai noodles, both came with the option of soup or salad and a fried egg roll, we also ordered chicken satay appetizer. The chicken satay was perfectly cooked. I tend to avoid chicken skewers as they tend to be dry but this here was juicy and the peanut sauce and the vinaigrette sauce added great flavor options. The panang soup was creamy, spicy, and seasoned well. Loved it over white rice. The beef was tender and the veggies cooked well. I love the red pepper flavor of the soup. The salad and soup were great starters both made and prepped well. Pad Thai noodles were al dente and not all clumped together. The sauce was light with the perfect balance of salt, sour, and savory. The waitress was nice and offered good recommendations. The restaurant itself is narrow, feels crowded, and is loud, but this doesn't take away from the overall experience in a bad way. The appetizers shined at Up Thai. Particularly the Pomelo salad and the curry puffs were delicious. They were so good that they built my expectations for the entree that I ordered (Moo Dang) too high. Unfortunately, the Moo Dang did not meet my expectations but that will not deter me from coming back to try something different! read more

Came here with a reservation for a quick girls lunch at noon on a Saturday. My go-to UES Thai spot- Thep Thai didn't open until 12:30 on Saturdays, and since we were on a schedule, Up Thai ended up being a great alternative! Food is good and came out quickly- got the Pad Kea Mao w tofu which had perfectly chewy noodles and a good assortment of veggies and wasn't too spicy. We also got some drinks- I got a summer special drink called 100 degrees which was a milk punch that tasted like ice cream- complete with whipped cream on top- a fun drink for girlie brunch! The inside of the restaurant is nice with a warm tropical forest vibe (lots of wood and plants). They got pretty crowded quickly, so would def recommend coming with a reservation. read more

Delicious!! Came here with a friend who also lives in the UES. The decor of this restaurant was gorgeous! Thought the seating in the back of the restaurant was a bit of a squeeze, but not horrible. We ordered three dishes, the soft shell crab and mango salad (5/5), short rib curry (4/5), and pad see ew (5/5). I was scared of the thai spice, so we went with mild, but the dishes ended up being not spicy at all! I will probably order the regular spicy level (I think they call it medium spice) next time. Food was delicious. I had the Similan chicken curry and salad rolls. The cocktails were good except for the Tanya's Corny Colada, which supposedly had pineapple and pandan in it but I couldn't taste anything but a weird creamy top with cornflakes. Decorations and ambience were great. read more
3.7/5 This restaurants strength relies heavily on the atmosphere. It was gorgeous and cozy and beautiful. My friend ordered the Khao Soi and I ordered the Thai Clay Pot. Both tasted more on the average side and lacked a lot of complexity or uniqueness for me. Though still tasty, my order tasted like something simple that could've been made at home. I look for really bold, fresh spice+acidity when eating Thai food. I mostly tasted sweet and a mundane oyster sauce flavor. The Khao Soi wasn't particularly bright or savory, and didn't taste special to me either. I would go here if you want a great time chatting with friends and enjoying the setting. Came here for dinner on a Friday night with 6 people and no resys. We got seated quickly but were told we only had the table for 1.5 hours, but that worked for us! We got 2 orders of wings, curry puffs, and spring rolls for appetizers. The wings were super crispy and I loved the fried garlic on top. The Thai chili dip sauce was great too. The curry puffs were yummy but could've been spicier. The spring rolls had a nice plum sauce on the side. For my main, I got crispy duck pad see ew noodles. The noodles were delicious and portion size was generous. The duck was definitely crispy but honestly dry. I'd skip spending the extra $$ for the duck and go with other meats. My husband got the crispy duck with drunken noodles. He said the noodles could've been spicier. The atmosphere is so cute inside and perfect for a date night or catching up with friends! read more

No, it is not Halal but almost every dish is available in a vegiterian version! The selection of a dish is followed by a question of what kind of meat, tofu or veritable is desired.
We have a reservation for 6 people in front of the restaurant! I was wondering if it's a nice place to sit up front? I have not been there before and and pictures don't talk about it either!
