Guys, this was hands down the BEST dining experience I have ever experienced before. I have worked in the service industry for 11 years now and have seen some amazing restaurants and have worked with some amazing chefs. But haven't experienced a restaurant like Valle. I'm an Oceanside local & I'm so stoked Valle is here. I recommend going to Valle if you are a foodie or if you like to try new foods that you haven't tried before. Definitely not your average Mexican restaurant. And that's a great thing! My girlfriend and I did the 4 course dining menu and even started with a cheese plate. The whole dining experience was about 3 hours. So be prepared to relax and enjoy yourselves! Perfect for a date night. Two things stood out to me the most. 1st the "tamal" on the menu blew my mind. The level of creativity was insane. (In a good way) ;). The tamal tasted like a tamale but it didn't look anything like a tamale! I love how "out of the box" the food is. The food is truly a work of art! Props to the cooks! It reminded me of my grandmas cooking, if she were a Mexican Michelin starred chef.. 2nd the staff at Valle was outstanding. We felt like the whole staff cared about our experience. Our hostess was so welcoming. The bartenders were awesome. Our server Michael did an epic job explaining Valle and explaining the menu. Came for a birthday celebration and I want to start with saying that the service was wonderful, the ambience was on point (chill and semi-fancy) and the overall experience was positive. My three stars is on food alone. Table of four, we all opted in for the 4-course meal ($95) and ordered different dishes so that we could taste everything the restaurant had to offer. Instead of going through every single dish, I'll pick out the ones that stood out. Everything else was mediocre, unfortunately. - Quesadilla: The sauce that surrounded the goat cheese quesadilla was incredible and was definitely the best first course on the table. - Table bread: Comes after the second course and was DELICIOUS. - Grouper (fish): Everything on the plate was insanely yummy, though the green sauce took the cake. came here tonight to do the tequila tasting and was blown away. this place is located right next to the beach in Oceanside and the restaurant itself is stunning. The tequila tasting was presented beautifully. They made 3 special drinks with each of them which was so much fun! Two of the three drinks are attached to this review! we got a few food items that were served with the tasting. Scallop dish, mole tamale, & a watermelon style dessert. These dishes were beautifully plated & incredible. The tamale was one of the best I've ever had & the mole pairing was outstanding. The watermelon dish was refreshing & fun! You get to crack it open with a spoon. I wanted to try some other items off the bar menu and got the crudo, tostado, the corn, and the chocolate dessert. First the crudo was amazing. A little spicy which is just my vibe. The tuna tostada I wouldn't get again - the sauce wasn't my favorite. The corn was delicious! It was like little corn popsicles. And you can never go wrong with any chocolate dessert! Has a black licorice flavor - very good! I'll be back to try the tasting menu real soon! My fiancé took me here for my birthday dinner and it was truly excellent. Not only was the food absolutely delicious, but the staff as a whole made the experience even more special. We ate at Valley last night and everything was good except for the A5 wagyu beef. My husband upgraded for an extra $50 onto top of the $160 for a A5 wagyu steak and what he received was a 90% fat 10% meat piece of steak. I mean the whole steak giggled like gelatin. Now we expected some fat because it was A5 but not a whole piece of fat. When my husband brought it to the servers attention she did nothing. I was disappointed in her response. With prices like this you need to keep guests who can afford to eat there. We spent over $1400. Unfortunately they may have lost an entire family eating there cause the head of our family couldn't get a decent cut of steak. So I gave Valle a four out of five stars. read more

Now the not so good... at no point when making the reservation, at arrival, or even explained by the server, do they ever communicate that they are presenting you with a 20% SURCHARGE BEFORE the tip at the end of the meal! it is absurd that they fail to communicate this at any point, They should raise their prices and skip the additional 20% surcharge, patrons would feel less deceived. This was our second time going to Valle. I will cover both the visits in this review. In short, your experience is totally dependent on Lady Luck. Not all items on the menu are stellar. during both our visits we tried the 4 course tasting menu. The first visit was pretty good, hence we went a second time .... unfortunately this time it was below average ( 3 out of 4 courses were blah .... but the king oyster mushroom was pure magic ) First visit : Dec first week TARTA (Onion tart) - 4/5 - pretty good, visually stunning!!! CALLO Y JICAMA (Scallops/Jicama) 5/5 : the dish has three "scallops" ... one of them is jicama ... which is a good tease .... But the scallops are Divine .... Honestly I felt like I was robbed of a scallop... it was that good!!! ESCOLAR - Fish (4/5) - Good ..... closest thing i can think of is "chilean sea bass" ..... but if i pit Trulucks-Lajolla or Tadocoro sea bass vs this dish ..... both Trulucks and sushi Tadocoro (old town) seabass courses have it by a mile!!! CHOCOLATE DE METATE (5/5) - This was really good!!!... get it!!! My husbands work team and their spouses holiday dinner planned here. We hadn't been here since they opened this year, but heard a lot of good things about the place. Upon reaching the restaurant at 6pmish, the area had a warm ambiance outdoors and as you entered the building. The lighting made it warm and inviting. After and ice breaker with appetizers and drinks they were ready to move us to a private room. As we were making our way to the room I viewed the space around me and found the warm and inviting vibe continued leading up to the room. That room was warm and cozy and elegantly decorated. Simple but elegant. The food was amazing. This took ingredients that I've had before but to another level! But, also trying new ingredients as well. After looking over the menu we/couples decided it to have something different so that we could try each others dishes. It was a great plan. The spouses tried each others dishes right up to dessert time. My husband and I shared, Tuetano Y Erizo (Roasted Bone Maroow Creme Brulee, Cotija), Zananhoria (Cooked in carrot juice, fermented honey, pine nuts, carrot tops), Callo Y Jicama (seared sea scallop, jicama, butternut squash, hazelnut), Betabel Nixtamal (beets, Kvass, Kwark), Setas Ostra (Oyster Mushrooms, Black Garlic, Aioli, Caramelized Onions, Ashes), Carne Asada (+20) Snake River Farms Wagyu Ribeye, Burnt Guacamole, Pearl Onions, and finally desserts, Frutos De Invierno (shaped into a snowman.... raspberry pannacota, strawberry panacota, mandarin curd), Chocolate De Metate (Spiced Chocolate Ganache, Chocolate Crumble, Gold Leaf). You won't know what to get so you'll have to come back to try it all and it changes seasonally so there is always something new. I enjoyed the presentation of my tamal the most followed by the camaron but they are all well plated dishes. I enjoyed the flavor of the elote dessert most followed by the wagyu picanha but you can't go wrong with any of the dishes. Excellent place to celebrate a birthday or have a nice date night. One of the worst dining experiences I think I have ever had in my life. I was blown away by how bad it was. Unimaginative. Burnt. Dull flavors. I rarely get this frustrated about a dining experience. But this was just BAD. The point at which I'm looking around at fellow diners and they are wincing at bites they take of their food... you know something isn't right. With all the hype in the world: "next big thing in Oceanside," "huge chef from the Baja," "A MUST VISIT," I was suckered in. Scheduled a reservation three weeks in advance online, waiting in anticipation. Excited to show my mom an amazing time! The day finally arrived. A Friday evening. Parking was easy enough along the street and we strolled inside. Promptly sat and handed a menu. The first thing I noticed, in small print on the bottom: "All cheques have an automatic 20% gratuity." Not a great start. We opened the menu to a "pre-fix" four course meal of an appetizer, starter, main course, and dessert. Four choices in each category. I went with the quesadilla, yellow tail, carne asada, and Mexican chocolate dessert. My mother decided on the onion caviar, eggplant, lamb and Mexican chocolate. When initial plates were served, almost every plate was described as "burnt" by the waitresses which was the beginning of the concern. First to come out was the quesadilla Starter. A Bitter, chalky cheese. Rubbery tortilla. Watery salsa. I literally had to choke it down. My mother, got a cold onion, burnt on the edges filled with slimy, heavily salted caviar. Next, my yellow tail and her eggplant. My yellowtail was served to emulate an upside down avocado, but instead was "burnt" avocado encasing its gooey goodness and the yellow tail. I cut it open, and put a couple scoops on the tostada's I was given. I was like I bit directly into a lemon. Extremely tart and bitter. Couldn't taste the yellow tail or avocado. Just an overwhelming flavor of lemon and mushy avocado. The tostada was stale and lacked any sort of crunch. My mother's eggplant was hard as a boot and took me using my knife as a lumberjack's axe to even cut the food. Oh, the atrocities don't end there. Next was my mothers lamb (served in a potato) and my carne asada. The main course. My mothers lamb was undercooked, cold, gamey, and rubbery. We brought up the undercooked meat to the restaurant manager and she said "that is how the chef prefers it." My carne asada, cooked medium rare, tasted alright. But the compliments to the steak just let the entire plate down. The potatoes were rock hard. Couldn't bite into them. You're given a teaspoon of the watery salsa from the quesadilla earlier. The tortillas... yes the TORTILLAS were undercooked and rubbery. Finally. Mercifully. Dessert came. Chocolate! Yes please. Served a small hard chocolate shell with mousse. Ice cream that was supposed to be served with it was already melted when it arrived. I bit in... highly bitter chocolate. Two bites and I was over it. Just get me the bill. Bill came. With the addition of two drinks a piece. THREE HUNDRED AND THIRTY SIX DOLLARS! Yes, you read that correctly $336!!!!!! Mandated 20% gratuity. I was flabbergasted. Irate. Mind blown. RUN! RUN FAR AWAY! This restaurant isn't even worth recommending to your enemies. How this chef got as hyped as he did is almost offensive. Support your local taco shop instead. read more

It's rare to see a fine dining Mexican food restaurant, so when I heard of Valle I knew I had to try it. I've gone multiple times for both their 4 course meal and their bar food, and I've felt impressed every time! Chef Alcocer is bringing the traditional flavors, techniques, and ingredients of Mexico and giving them a modern fine dining twist. Most recently I tried their tamal and mole, and it was the BEST mole I've had in a long time (maybe ever). Their rabbit taco was incredible, it was as tender as pork belly. The little roasted corn was amazing and so cute!! My favorite dessert was their buñuelos and the Bronzed flower dessert. There is so much to try!! read more

My husband was so excited to book a reservation here for our anniversary and we had high expectations about Valle. We arrived on time and we were seated right away in the almost empty restaurant. We got a window seat and had a lovely view and the space itself is beautiful. We chose the 8 course tasting meal and added on the oyster appetizer and expensive plain drinking water. The oysters were a good start (pricey, but worth it) and welcome appetizer was delicious too. Most of the rest of the courses were just okay and a couple were terrible, but the 2 standouts were the tostada and the salad course. I would not pay any price for several of the dishes served and would have expected them to all be seasoned properly, which they were not. The service however was the standout in the whole experience. All of the servers were friendly and attentive. The extra anniversary candle cake was a sweet touch, but looked better than it tasted. When we were brought our bill the server informed us of an additional 20% service fee (first notification of such fee) on top of the already expensive bill that apparently was not a gratuity. We have never received such a surprise or high additional service fee and from the wording we were provided with the fee it made it seem like another additional gratuity was also needed. We like to tip big for exceptional customer service, but we felt like another 20% on top was more than we anticipated paying and we weren't sure how much extra to leave. We did leave an additional gratuity, but felt weird leaving less than 20% because the service was the highlight of the night. Had the chance to try this "Ode to Valle de Guadalupe " in Oceanside just 3 weeks after its opening. The Chef, Roberto Alcocer also owns "Malva" - a renown restaurant in Baja that I've experienced where he's made a name for himself by using only the freshest farm to table ingredients and paying homage to Mexican food culture...so I had high expectations. I wasn't disappointed! Starting with the décor - a very beautiful setting with ocean views, clean and modern materials, intimate lighting with a Mexico City Polanco District feel. The service was very attentive and friendly and Roberto personally visited tables to share the nuances of some of the more complicated dishes. Valle has a tasting menu where you get to choose 1 of 4 items offered in 4 different categories including dessert. We started with an amuse bouche that had earthy undertones that set the stage for a thematic flavor profile that would ensue the entire evening. For the "Primeros" course, I chose a hand made tortilla, plancha toasted and filled with Humboldt Fog goat cheese- a wonderful compliment of ingredients that worked so well together. Another option my friend had was the onion tart topped with caviar that was also excellent. I just noticed they added to their menu a roasted bone marrow with cotija option as well - the items are constantly changing depending upon seasonal ingredient availability. Apparently out of the 7 walk-in refrigerators that are available on the property, Roberto only uses two of them (for storing ice cream and cheese and to hold day-of-serving meat deliveries). Everything else is farm to table just-in-time fresh deliveries made daily by local farmers. For the "Segundos" course I had a yellowtail crudo that was prepared with a transformed ash-roasted avocado. What a truly unique blend of flavors that are so indigenous to the coastal tierra we have. The amount of though and care that went into this was unparalleled. Other courses available included eggplant w/epazote, and fresh abalone- not your "run of the mill" options by any means. The "Terceros" course options were amazing: I chose the wagyu beef that was called "carne Asada" but...make no mistake, this wasn't what you find at a taco stand. Served medium rare, very flavorful and was accompanied by a medley of flavorful salsa/purees and superbly prepared vegetable accoutrements. Other options included Black Cod in a light garlic & black bean drizzle - was also outstanding ! There was a complex lamb and potato dish and a mushroom /vegetable dish. The desserts were all incredible - Pumpkin Panna Cotta, Spiced Chocolate Ganache with gold leaf, gluten free apple tart and more. In summary, Valle is definitely worth the trip to Oceanside to experience. It is of Michelin caliber and undoubtedly will receive star(s) at some point - we have very few of those in San Diego County. I am so grateful for Valle! My official rating is a 4.5 for two reasons: The restaurant is still new and is still fine-tuning itself, secondly, the pricing was higher than I expected: About $200 per person with a bottle of wine. (By the way...their wine list is terrific offering many Guadalupe options and also European/ Napa options). As a final note: I am a wee bit concerned whether the general San Diego community will be able to fully appreciate the kind of culinary artistry and food sourcing going on here. After a three week wait our reservation was finally upon us. My wife and I had known Valle was coming and when they opened we started looking for a reservation. The night was perfect. Not only were we about to eat at a delicious restaurant, there was a concert taking place at the amphitheater next to the beach. Let's get to the restaurant and our experience. To start, a very friendly and welcoming staff. Our server Hannah was amazing. Great knowledge of the food, wine, and cocktails. Additionally, her attitude was great. My wife and I really enjoyed her, she made the evening just a little better. Two more staff members to mention, the restaurant manager Mina Dipalma and the Chef also came out and to say hello. The food; nicely done four course fixed menu. Each course is done nicely. We choose to have the wine pairing as well. Hannah our server described each course and wine so well we could not wait to try. Our favorites were the quesadilla, the Betabel Nixtamal (beats), and we both loved our dinner plate Setas Ostra and the Carne Asada. Here is the wrap up: The Chef is a Michelin Chef. My wife and I do not typically get to experience restaurants like this. Were the wine is paired perfectly for your dish and presentation of your food is perfect. We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant, it was our first time. Chef Roberto Alcocer who also happens to have another restaurant at Valle de Guadalupe in Mexico crates a beautiful menu. My cousin recommended Valle after visiting the Mexico location. The restaurant is beautiful , the lights are very dim but the atmosphere is very cozy and the restaurant overlooks the ocean. The service was great and be prepared to pay an auto 20% gratuity. The food didn't disappoint. The chef offers a prix-fixe 4 course menu that also happens to be seasonal & farm to table from what the server explained to us & the cost is $95 a person. For an additional $45 you can have a wine pairing. The food is presented very artistically and the portions are small but by the end of dinner, we were all satisfied and no one left hungry. Some of the items we choose were waygu carne asada, Tetela which was a chanterelle mushroom with humboldt for cheese topped with a morita sherry, abulon tacos that were delicious! Their desserts were also delicious and very beautifully plated like art. Overall our experience was amazing. It is pricey so be prepared to spend about $200 per couple. We thought it was well worth it. Not certain why the horrible reviews that some people left, I suspect they weren't crazy about the price because every item on the menu we tried was exceptional. Chef Roberto has done it once again. The tasting menu was heavily focused on seasonal vegetables much to my delight. It is a 4 course tasting menu so of course the portions are smaller, but they were perfectly portioned and well executed. We chose the wine pairing as well and the wines with each person's course highlighted the ingredients beautifully. The pre dinner cocktail was expertly crafted and even the cherry garnish on my friends drink was beautifully presented. I must also mention the service which was also expert considering it was opening night. Our waiter Kwan did an excellent job of bringing the menu to life and really highlighting the care of each ingredient. One of the best meals I've had in recent memory. The food had a very clear Baja theme with familiar flavors but definitely elevated and more creative. Short ribs melted with each bite. My favorite was the chocolate dessert. And the wine paring was divine! Our sommelier did an excellent job presenting each pairing: his articulation of how of each glass complemented each plate made the tasting educational, classy without being pretentious. The restaurant itself is beautifully designed, with ocean views but also a huge fireplace for cozier vibes. Lastly, Chef Alcocer came over to personally check on us and even invited us back to tour his kitchen. In addition to the pre fixe courses, we were offered multiple amuse bouches, a side of black bean bread, and sweets after the dessert. We left feeling very satisfied. We came in for a few drinks and appetizers on a Friday night. We sat at the bar. Nina and Braden were our bartenders/servers. Service was great. We had oysters and the octopus tacos. The tacos were so flavorful we ordered another plate. Braden made my husband a margarita that was delicious. My husband owns 2 bars so can be particular about his cocktails. When you are looking for something different and spectacular, You absolutely must try Valle in Oceanside! I have eaten at the French Laundry and that has set the bar for me! Valle is on that level! The service is truly amazing! They are warm and friendly, not cold and stuffy. We felt like we had our own personal staff team! Honestly the best service I have had in years! The food is inventive with layers of flavors that you would never expect! The Chef came to our table and was genuinely interested in our experience. Underwhelming! Let's start with saying the service was outstanding and the wine pairing was phenomenal! But oh my lord the food was not. I've eaten at many Michelin restaraunts and so I know that it isn't always about simply being delicious or satisfying - it's often equally about being creative and asking the diner to consider flavors in new ways. But this was just not good. The wagyu steak was a brick. Generally this grade of meat (although wagyu is often abused as a term altogether) holds more fat and flavor and is generally tender. The shrimp uncleaned, and strangely piping hot in a bowl of ice. The octopus was tough and fishy. The fish was ok but it's accompaniments we're inedible. The butternut squash dish was bizarre - and completely unseasoned. The chocolate man became soup immediately and was inedible. I just don't see how 400 bucks for two makes sense here. read more

4.5 would be more accurate. Excellent service from Adasami, She was so pleasant and knowledgeable about the 8 course tasting menu. A real gem! She really made the experience interesting. Booking was a little problematic (to do with tasting menu). Long boring story but annoying. This was a surprise for my 50th, so he was trying to be organized. Food was 4.5/5 stars, really wonderful flavors. Every dish told a story on my tongue. We talked and considered every dish between us with varying opinions and delights. Loved the "gift" goodness, so delicious! Need to re look at the drinks prices and check with a sober eye as although we expected the 8 courses taster to be expensive (and it was excellent) the check was mega. Not sure how this place is Michelin rated. I've been to Michelin restaurants around the world. This was the most expensive Michelin restaurant I've been to and the worst in terms of taste, service, portions. Food was dull and bizarre; the antithesis of what comes to mind for Mexican -typically vibrant, full of flavor and plenty of salt and spice. The amuse bouche had no taste. The onion tart was extremely off putting, as it was entirely black and crumbly, giving you the effect of eating charcoal. The beets were undercooked and crunchy, despite a beautiful rose presentation. I'm pregnant and had to swap out the raw tuna for something else and they gave me a wedge of romaine with a Caesar/avocado dressing--like seriously? At a Michelin restaurant that's what you sub my dietary restriction with??? My husband paid an extra $50 for the addition of the Wagyu. We thought was an addition, but instead they remove the lamb and give the wagyu. So it's not an addition but upgrade if you will. The wagyu could not have been more than 2x1 inches. Typically in tasting menus the portions are small, but as you eat each one you get filled. These were literally no more than one or two bites a plate and we left hungry. The icing on the cake was the $1200 for 4 people. We didn't even do the wine pairing. Just the food and 3 drinks and water. They automatically charged us a 20% "service charge." Which is cryptic for including a 20% tip. This was even more upsetting because we were not satisfied and forced to tip. The service itself was super slow. Three hours for 8 meals. The restaurant super dim and was putting us to sleep in combination of waiting between courses. Finally, we got a tour of the kitchen. Very bizarre as the kitchen is not impressive. Should I be impressed by the pastry chefs working in what appears as a closet?? Or chefs table in front of the confection oven? Come see my mom's kitchen-far more impressive and she won't charge you $1200. read more

Outstanding service. We had pre-paid reservations on Christmas for dinner, but our inbound flight from Colorado was caught up in the Southwest debacle. We called to cancel and initially, they said it was non-refundable, but then contacted us back to let us know they'd give us a credit (maybe because I burst into tears on the phone? It was a long day). Special thanks to Cassidy and manager Mina for allowing us to come back. We were able to return for dinner on my husband's birthday and met Cassidy and Mina, who were both so sweet and understanding. We sat outside--so charming with fire pits, lots of tasteful succulent plants and blankets if we got cold. Our actual meal was delicious! Four courses each (well-timed and not rushed) and we added on a cheese plate (for me) and shrimp cocktail (for my husband) and he also did the wine pairing, which was wonderful. The standout for me was the King Oyster with celery root "fettuccini," which was amazingly tender and pasta-like. My husband raved about the presentation and flavor of the Puerto. My one note about the food is that it was all just slightly under seasoned. Perhaps a dash or two of salt or other flavoring would take it over the top. It was already mouthwatering, but could be just a bit better. Overall, it was an incredibly special meal (with an extra "edible candle" for dessert for my husband's birthday) with friendly, professional, terrific service, a comfortable, upscale and warm atmosphere and amazing food. read more

It was an amazing elevated culinary dining experience. Our first time here for Restaurant Week. Such a wonderful dining experience! We each had a amazing four course meal with wine pairings. Each course was truly inspired, thoughtful in creativity and truly beautiful. Layers of complex flavors that blew us away. We loved the butternut squash soup, bone marrow wagyu tartare, the tetela, not a Caesar salad, the wagyu barbacoa, and leches ice cream was phenomenal. The service was attentive and friendly. We really enjoyed the entire experience and the wine pairings. We will definitely be back and plan on visiting the location in Ensenada as well. read more
