But it'll take more than 3 seasons of Narcos to learn the intricacies-- so don't be that cringey 'merican and use these tips: The same exact word can have an entirely different meaning depending on context. For example "perico" is a bird, or a drug, also a coffee, and also some eggs with tomato and onion. El tiempo means the time, or the weather. Fresa is a strawberry, but also means a conceited Mexican. Puente is a bridge, but can be the word for a long weekend. Chucho can be a dog, or a joint, an unreliable person, or a clever person. The letter ñ is pronounced like the "ny" in "canyon": as in mañana. But whether you use an "ñ" or an "n" changes the meaning of a word drastically, for example: año is a year... but ano means anus. In summary, if you have an upcoming puente, channel your inner Fresa and roll up a chucho with your main chucho before dinner here at the playa. Two years ago my husband and I dined at Valle. The experience was exceptional. I said, " if this restaurant does not receive a Michelin star, something is very wrong." Well...they received a Michelin star. On April 22 of this year we celebrated 30 years of married bliss. We stayed at the Pacific Inn and walked across the courtyard to Valle for an extraordinary dinner. We invited a friend and were escorted to our table. The ambiance at Valle is serene and perfect for fine dining, which is what each course brings. The staff know exactly how to treat a diner. They explain each course simply and oh so well. We chose our 8 course meal with Mexican wine pairings The first wine served was Champú. Which was light in color, even though it was a 2024 Malbec. We were told it would prepare our palate and it definitely fulfilled its purpose. Each course was successfully paired with the recommended wine. I took a bite of each course and a sip of the recommended wine, which got together in my mouth, married and lived happily ever after in my stomach. Our first course included what looked like a demitasse of frothed coffee. It turned out to be a smooth bean soup that slid from my tongue down my throat. Another course called Cebolla, the Spanish word for onion. featured a small black tart made from onions in a shell made from corn. In the center was what looked like a fruit. It turned out to be osetra caviar formed like a blackberry. It's hard to describe the wonderfulness of the bite, once that caviar had been spread over the top of the tart. There was also a course presented that was lobster. Who doesn't appreciate lobster? Another memorable course was crudo or raw Chayote squash formed into a rose with Balsamic beads that mimicked morning dew. For our main entre we chose lamb and wagyu beef. The wagyu melted in our mouth. The lamb was served on a banana leaf. It was perfection. For desert we were presented with a semi fredo topped with an edible Hibiscus. Soon after we were presented with a cake fashioned like a candle set on top of an antique candle holder with a lit candle. All I can say is that Valle deserves three Michelin stars because Chef Roberto Alcácer is not just a flavor master, he utilizes micro greens, edible flowers, raw vegetables in a most imaginable way. I was SO excited to try this restaurant. We are serious foodies and so many people had raved to me about it so I booked the Chef's table for our wedding anniversary. First off, the ambiance in the bar and dining area is exceptional. Their signature margarita is pricey but delicious. The service is excellent. I'm just not sure how I feel about the food. We were underwhelmed. We love the regional cuisine that was supposed to be represented but just weren't impressed by the food. The starters were fried followed by more fried without anything to really brighten the dish or relieve and cleanse the palate. Maybe we were there on an off night, or maybe it's just not to our taste as we eat a lot of SE Asian food and relish the herbs, citrus and heat that comes with so many of those dishes. I would go one more time to eat in the bar or restaurant and requested that a friend of ours who is from that geographical region report back to me when she dines there, perhaps it's just our palates? read more

The bar is set very high when you make it clear you have Michelin star aspirations and charge $110-$165 per person for prix fixe. The short version is that Valle has all the elements for a Michelin star restaurant. (They are currently on the Michelin Guide, which means they are in the hunt for a star.) The ambiance is welcoming, upscale, and spectacular. The service was impeccable - definitely at the elite level. The menu was novel, eclectic, and had clear direction and seasonal focus. The cocktail and wine program were both impressive. And the food - each dish we had continued to both surprise and impress. Valle has a certain je ne sais quoi that bridges the gap between excellent and world-class. But most of all, Valle was FUN! There are so many stuffy, boring Michelin-star restaurants we've been to and would never go back. Valle dinner service options are essentially the same as its nearby analogs, Jeune et Jolie and Matsu. You can choose one of three dishes from 4 different courses ($110 per person) or you can do an 8-course tasting menu ($165 per person). The amount of food is the same between the two selections. If you are with a partner, you can simply mix up your 4-course menu selections so that you both get to share 8 different dishes anyway. One thing I did like about Valle is that the 8-course tasting menu did not just select 8 dishes from the 4-course menu. Rather, more than half of the dishes including the dessert were bespoke to the 8-course menu. The Valle menu starts off a little disconcerting because the appetizers that are add-ons (page before the prix fixe courses) are in the $40-$50 range and are very large in size. I think that was a bit off-putting vs Jeune et Jolie where you have the raw bar add-ons that start with before the prix fixe courses begin. Many are these are for large groups. It does say something like "sharable appetizers" to Valle's credit. I think just seeing that part of the menu first is a bit overwhelming. Maybe they could be renamed something like shareable plates and have the smaller appetizers under a different subtitle. We did the 4-course prix fixe and ordered all different dishes so we could try as many as possible. Each dish was presented beautifully and flavors were novel and spectacular. We started off with a 3-part amuse-bouche that included an amazing savory cappuccino and two types of mini tostados. All three were outstanding. We tried several cocktails over the course of the evening, though each one was very good, my favorite was the Frida's Kiss with mezcal subbed in. This was so cohesive, refreshing, and had excellent presentation with the black salt rim and flowers. The langostino taco, even with the flour taco that I was dubious about at first, was sublime - though you need to really chomp hard to not get the whole mini lobster in your mouth unexpectedly. The langostino may need to be cut into smaller pieces so that diners don't get the whole thing in their mouth unexpectedly with the first bite and then are left with the rest of the taco with no meat left. Our favorite savory dish was probably the wagyu short rib, where you cut your own pieces off the bone and make mini street tacos with their mole sauce. The mole sauce on this dish was divine and the savory highlight of the evening. The fresh catch dish of black sea bass was slightly overcooked and under-seasoned. The crispy skin was very good, but I found the veggies and the fish itself to be a touch bland. That was really the only dish of 8 (plus 6 bonus dishes) that wasn't amazing. For dessert, even though their spicy Mexican chocolate dessert called the Chocolate De Metate was absolute perfection, their apple strudel was the big surprise of the evening. Each detail including the buttery, flaky pastry crust, the cinnamon apple filling, and blown candy "glass" apple that you break open like a piñata, and even the little scoop of apple sorbet were divine. We were so happy we ordered this dessert as all the other choices looked so good. The special occasion dessert was really fun, too. This was served like a giant candle from Beauty and the Beast with an edible "wax" that was a delicious lemon sponge cake atop a homemade rice krispie treat. Though timing of the courses was nearly perfect, we did have an overlap with the bread course. The course spacing is really important so you don't make the diners overwhelmed with two courses on the table at once. With that said, their black bean bread and browned garlic butter was sublime. Overall, we thought that Valle was nearly perfect. The portions were generous, the little bonuses were surprising and fun, and the service was impeccable. They really shine in the details. I know that Shakespeare wrote that line. Let me be and let's move on. Valle was genuinely the greatest (see, I brought it back) dining experience of my life to date. I'm still not fully convinced that it wasn't just one long, wonderful fever dream. Some notes on the ~*experience*~ before we dive into the food: - The dining room only offers a pre-fixe menu (with the option to add some appetizers, though the 8 courses had me bursting at the seams), so if you're a picky eater or just not down for a ride where you have no control, this probably isn't gonna be your jam. - Our whole meal lasted a total of 2.5 hours. Not by any means a complaint, just a note that this isn't gonna be a quick in and out situation and you might want to plan ahead for that. - The service was unlike any I've ever experienced, even at the handful of other Michelin starred restaurants I've been to. We never went more than a couple minutes without someone dropping by our table, and every single member of the staff was astounding knowledgable about each dish and the general goings on of the restaurant. I can't rave enough about our main server, Asami, who was truly just such a delight. - We went to Valle to celebrate my birthday and they made me feel so special and cared for without going over the top or drawing way too much attention to it. I'm not someone that loves attention or her birthday, and I think they straddled the line really well. - My partner has a gluten allergy and they were so accommodating and provided substitutions wherever necessary, even bringing him a separate (and INCREDIBLE) gluten free bread during the bread course. - They had a coat rack for my purse so it wouldn't have to sit on the ground or next to me on the bench! This is such a small touch that was so thoughtful and really elevated the experience to the next level. It was a handful of small things like this that put Valle over the top in my mind, even if we're going to ignore the mind-blowing food. Which we are not. So. The food. THE FOOD!!! 8 courses (really like 10? Honestly not sure, I think I blacked out from sheer joy for a bit in the middle there) of absolute perfection. I don't even have words to do the dishes justice, but trust that it was Mexican food prepared like I never even could've dreamed of. I could go through and rank each course but that would be a waste of everyone's time because they were all a 10/10. The only way I can really think to describe it is familiar flavors paired and presented in new and exciting ways, which is precisely what I want from a Michelin star experience. There was not a single miss amongst the food, but the two that I will be thinking about for the next few decades are the "fish taco" botana and the chayote crab dish. The botana (introduced to us as essentially a Mexican amuse bouche) came in a set of 3 small bites, but the fish taco one stood out in particular for me. It was a teeny tiny crispy puffed tortilla filled with a sea bass puree, with avocado crema and microgreens on top; truly it tasted like one tiny, perfectly balanced bite of the best fish taco you've ever had. I could've eaten 200 of those alone. The chayote crab dish was so beautifully presented and had such complex flavors that melded together so well along with fun textural differences that made the dish as a whole such a fun eating experience. Bizarrely, it reminded me of nam banh chok, my favorite Cambodian dish from my childhood, which fully blew my small idiot mind. We also had a number of cocktails, all of which were positively outstanding. I wasn't even that upset to pay $18 per, because they were so so good. We also were given a delightful sparkling wine to go with our dessert course, that was honestly so good that I messaged Valle afterwards to track it down and see how I could get it delivered to my home. Don't fret, I got my answer and am well on my way to making this happen. The takeaway: everyone needs to visit Valle at least once in their lives. And also everyone needs to go back and rewatch She's the Man because it currently only has a 6.4 rating on IMDb and that is simply unacceptable. read more

We also ordered the oysters, wife got the A5 supplement (drunken Wagyu A5), while I got the rabbit so we can try it all. Wine pairing is a must IMO to get every ounce of the experience. Bravo to Chef Roberto for creating a restaurant that is a tribute to food and wine of Valle de Guadalupe in Baja. My husband and I are fortunate to have been visited the Valle in Baja a few times, so we have those memories as our frame of reference. The restaurant is beautifully designed. We had an indoor table with a nice view of the ocean. Service was fun, attentive and informative. I enjoyed how the server pointed out the artwork of the wine labels. We both ordered the mar y tierra tasting menu with the wagyu beef upgrade. It was 8 courses with an amuse bouche, a bread and butter course in the middle, and then some chocolates and candies at the end. To top it off, we were greeted with a frozen treat when we entered the kitchen. That was a great way to end the evening. The dishes were beautifully plated - although as it got darker, I needed to use my phone flashlight to see the colors on the plate. Our favorites included the onion tart which had some ash flavor. That was one of the bites which really reminded me of flavors down in Baja. We also really liked the halibut, and also the wagyu chancla. My wine was from Lomita winery in Baja which was really good. When we did our kitchen tour, we were fortunate to meet Chef Roberto in person. He was very welcoming. Muchas gracias for a memorable meal. I hope that more people will dine at Valle - not just because of the Michelin star - but also to experience a cuisine that perhaps they haven't tried before. I have been waiting to come since I heard that they earned their Michelin star, and I never expected to leave thinking they should have it revoked. We choose patio seating for the sunset a month in advance. The whole week was a rainy forecast but we assumed such a nice restaurant would make sure everything was covered and prepared for the rain. We were immediately taken to our table which was in the furthest corner next to the only other couple that was dining in the restaurant at the time. We could barely get into our small corner table without disturbing the neighbor couple. I then asked if we could be seated inside due to this inconvenience and also due to the fact that the restaurant was completely empty considering we arrived so early on in the evening. They said they couldn't move us which was okay until it started to rain and the rain started to pour on us because the corner we were in was not fully protected. They finally moved us to a different table outside. The food honestly just wasn't good, and I have never felt so strongly about that. I truly feel like this tasting menu and whole experience is a scam and that they just gave up on customer service/ all effort after receiving their star. Save the amuse bouche as a sauce for the rest of the dishes because pretty much everything desperately needed it. read more

Valle in Oceanside is the creation of Chef Roberto Alcocer. I first met Roberto at his Restaurant Malva in the Valle de Guadalupe, which is located high on a hill and behind imposing gates soon after you turn onto the Routa del Vino-Carreterra 3 from the coastal road. I remember he prepared me a Chinese duck soup one day that was unforgettable. At Valle Oceanside, Roberto offers a prix-fixe dinner menu of four courses. Within each course there are three or four options from which to select. Luxury items such as Wagyu Carne Asada beef and additional caviar will bring a further supplement to the $95.00 charge for the meal. The décor at Valle is beautiful. There is a roaring fire, large-scale paintings on the walls, vitrines filled with glassware and decorative objects, and glimpses of the sea here and there. However, when the lights are dimmed, the dining room takes on an overall dullness that just cries out for the placement of votive candles on each table. When I mentioned that issue to Roberto, he stated that table candles are in the works---he just wants to find the perfect one. One can also sit on the patio, but if you do so, I think you would miss out on the grand atmosphere of a special occasion meal. Roberto circulates around the room each evening, speaking passionately about his food while getting to know his American clientele. Valet parking is the way to go. There is also a parking lot behind the Hyatt Hotel in which Valle is located, but the walk around the building would be quite a trek. And at night in Oceanside, after a grand meal, who would want to do that? read more

9/21/2023 Thursday Evening One Michelin * It was a last minute dinner choice to Valle so we didn't have a reservation to try their tasting menu. Valle accepts walk-in at the bar so we sat at the booth area next to the bar for a quick late dinner just to try out their food. This review is based on their limited bar menu so rating is less stringent then if I am to rate on their tasting menu. There are four shared plates (oysters $40, cheese $45, charcuterie $45, caviar $80) on their regular drink and dining menu plus a bar menu with 5 dishes listed that includes a selection of burger, tamal, quesataco, ceviche rojo sea bass, helada ice cream). We ordered the burger ($20), tamal ($18), and quesataco ($20) to try. The burger was just that a beef burger. Can I taste that it's made of wagyu beef, no not really. I think what threw it off is the combo of wagyu/bacon smashed patty. Not sure if the wagyu beef was too lean or it's the added bacon but the burger was a bit more dry in texture and not as tender and juicy as just an all beef patty. You'd think the opposite because normally bacon fat should add juiciness and flavor to the meat but it didn't in this case. The burger came out piping hot though which was a plus. Just a shame the texture didn't work out and not much flavor to the burger. The tamal is a modern take from a traditionally wrapped tamal. The dish came with a single semi-sphere of tamal on a bed of mole sauce. I am no connoisseur of Mexican food but I had good tamale before. The texture of the tamal was too dry and there's no filling. The sauces didn't enhanced the flavor either. It's a pass for me. The quesataco probably my favorite out of the three dishes we ordered. I loved the tortilla and seems to be made in-house. The filling consisted of wagyu beef and Monterrey Jack cheese but the flavor was very mild. What helped was the small spoon of salsa that came with the dish that added flavor to the dish. We then asked for desserts and they have the Helada ice cream single scoop for $10 plus the main dining room desserts: 1) Bronzed 2.0 lemon curd, yogurt, orange blossom, bergamot and pith gelee and 2) Chocolate de Metate spiced ganache, mexican dark chocolate ice cream We ordered both and turned out, the desserts were the shining stars for the night! Valle's pastry chef must be on the next level. Two of the best desserts I have eaten. The lemon curd flavor was well balanced with just the right amount of acidity and sweetness to it. It was beautifully presented like a flower with white dehydrated yogurt flower petals. Almost reminded me of Chef Massimo's "oops I dropped my lemon tart". Delicious! For the chocolate de metate, I am not a big chocolate fan but I was super impressed with the ganache, smooth and velvety and I can literally tasted the quality of the dark chocolate. Very yummy food. I drove over 40 minutes to Oceanside to try this new restaurant. Service was good but you can tell they are still working out the kinks any new restaurant would encounter as the food took a while to come out and our meal ended up lasting more than 3 hours which was a bit too long for a 4 course meal. The aged bluefin tuna tostada was absolutely delicious and started our meal off great as our amuse bouche. Some of my favorites were the Onion tarta and baja yellowtail crudo that was stuffed inside a charred avocado. Presentaion may have seemed odd but the wonderful flavors exploded in the mouth. The Ensenada black cod was cooked just right and the Snake River Farms Wagyu Ribeye tasted wonderful, albeit, a little expensive for the +$20 add on fee. But my favorite entree of the night was the lamb meat stuffed inside a potato. I am usually adverse to anything lamb because it tastes gamey to me but this dish was wonderfully prepared and just plain awesome! Ended the night on a high note with the yummy tasting and artfully prepared apple cheese tart, Pumpkin Spice Panna Cotta and Spiced Chocolate Ganache. Overall great meal, but a little bit on the pricey side considering the ingredients and portion size. read more

I've been to many Michelin star restaurants.....I took my daughter here as a graduation gift for NP school. First let me say the service was great.....we ordered a wine paring with our 8 course meal. The wine is suppose to complement the dish....the wines chosen did not do that. I feel they were wines that the Chef owned and he was trying to push his product. The food was good at best. Not at all Michelin star quality. It was EXTREMELY over priced for what you received. I don't mind paying for a wine and chef tasting if it is worth the money. Now, the food - the overall experience of the tasting menu was fun, punch flavors and a nice progression overall. The service we received was just not very good for a restaurant that is trying to perform at a high level. For the prices they are charging, one expects things to be pretty much perfect. First, we had group of seven, so they seated us in the private room in the back. The room does not have a good vibe and it was much too large for our group of seven. The table we sat at would have easily sat twice the number we had. It was echoey and we were totally apart from the great ambience that they have in the main dining room. We felt apart from the rest of restaurant and I think this impacted not only our attitude, but the service we received. On numerous occasions our wine bottle, wine glasses and water glasses were empty. We felt forgotten in the back of the restaurant. This is my main complaint. Second, our main server paced around while talking about the dishes as if he were on stage. It was showy, and in my view, unprofessional. The food service felt disjointed and at times, too casual. Servers came in without a plan for which guest there were going to, often crossing one another awkwardly. Haphazard. The portions were good and the food was inventive, with great presentation and flavours, but they probably relied too heavily on their avocado based sauces. I don't write a lot about places I visit or where I eat but Valle Oceanside operates on a completely on another level. While other restaurants tout they provide Michelin level services and have the star(s) to say that they are Michelin. Valle on the other hand with a single Michelin star is on a completely on another level. I called a couple of weeks prior to request a reservation for a 15 years anniversary celebration with Ericka Ton-That and I had explained to the host, specific details on food, drinks and leaving up to them to put together an experience for us. The time we arrived entering this restaurant provides a warm intimate vibe to the host ushering us to our table. Dinner at 7:30PM right at sunset. The GM James walked over and asked if we are interested in another table and he already set up a very cool spot where we can see the ocean, palm trees, the pier, the festive environment of the Pacific. There is a staff for each course presenting it. The servers and everyone is extremely hospitable and kind. The GM James even stop by from time to time to make sure we are comfortable. He even brought out a hanger stand for my wife's purse. What??? The drinks, the dishes is just over the top and fulfills all senses of the eyes, the palate and the nose and ultimately our hearts and soul. Each course is fill with rich Mexican history and cultures. The staff even adjusted our drinks to ensure we have the best experience. And just when we thought we were done, we were invited by the kitchen manager to tour the kitchen. EVERYONE was just so kind, nice and knowledgeable. We walked to our car and realized I forgot my valet ticket...when asked...our waiter said, "I have already called to the valet for your car, it is waiting for you...." WHAT???? Exceptional! $100/person Non Refundable Deposit for Reservations! Chose Valle for my birthday dinner. My wife booked the reservation 16 days in advance. - They asked for a $100/person deposit for the reservation on their website. 2 days later we found that we needed to cancel. -This cannot be done via the website. After having to explain herself to 2 people who would not refund her deposit, my wife finally asked for a manager. The manager was the least courteous of the 3 and let her know in no uncertain terms that this was the policy and that it is plainly stated on the website (it is not, and we took screenshots). If clearly stated, I doubt very many people would pay a non-refundable deposit for a restaurant reservation unless it was last-minute or for an event. Clearly stated non-refundable deposits of any sort pretty much give everyone a pause which is probably why Valle doesn't plainly state this "policy". To be clear. We cancelled a reservation 2 weeks out and the first day that the restaurant was open so that we could call them (remember, the website will not let you cancel a reservation). We were told by all three employees @ Valle that this is their policy and the $200 will not be refunded. However we are welcomed to reschedule. Needless to say that not only had my wife's interest in spending $500 dollars at a restaurant that was actively trying to steal $200 had dropped to zero. - I got an earful over her experience for the better part of an hour.... *Thanks Valle, you're awesome. This was our experience but I encourage you to read others on Yelp and Trip Advisor. Had we done that before booking we would have never considered Valle (or any restaurant providing the experiences that Valle currently is) but especially not one of this so called caliber. My expectation is that they will make some changes. Based on our experience and other reviews I have read, they will have a hard time lasting in Oceanside. - There are too many creative chef's and up and coming restaurants in North County where two people can eat great food, and meet & support awesome servers, chef's, and bartenders for half the price and still have a premium dining experience. It's only money but it is a lot of money for what is supposed to be superior food and overall experience. -And they are pretty shady about it. "Do your research" on this one. read more

My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary. The service was great. They waived the corking fee because we were there for a special occasion which I really appreciated. The ambiance was moody. We were surprisingly disappointed with the food, though. We did the four course dinner. The portions were very small. We enjoyed the lobster taco but did not like the main entree at all. The focus of the menu was from Baja Mexico and Chef Roberto Alcocer executed in stellar fashion. Service felt pretentious and ingenuine and I've been to 13 course tasting restaurants for the price that they charge here for a fixed 4-course here that you eat mostly out of obligation vs. being excited for the next dish cause the previous ones leave you wanting more. I can see why this place has been Michelin star rated! They have a prefixed, 4 course menu with a variety of options to choose from. I'm a pescatarian so I was a little worried that they wouldn't have any non-meat options but they did and they seemed to have completely vegetarian options as well. The menu also offers upgrades (wine pairing, truffle oil, etc) but they do not accept any alterations. With each entrée that is brought out, there is a brief explanation behind why the chef created the dish and exactly what the dish includes. Along with the 4 course meal, other food is also brought out so although the portion sizes were fairly small, I definitely left feeling full. All of dishes were excellent and the presentation was phenomenal. The design/decor inside the restaurant is absolutely stunning. Most of the seats offer an ocean view. The restaurant offers free valet for up to 3 hours with anyone that has a reservation. Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with Valle, the service, and the meals and I am looking forward to coming back again in the fall when they change their menu. read more

I had a most delicious culinary experience here last week! They have a fantastic tasting menu - 4 courses which you can also add the wine pairing with it, if you like. I did that! Everything from start to finish was absolutely perfectly executed. The staff is super friendly. I started off with a drink at their bar and afterwards, I was seated outside with a lovely view of Oceanside's infamous pier. After dinner, I got a tour of the kitchen and Chef's Table (available by reservations on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. I was there on a Wednesday night). The tour did not disappoint and I was able to meet Chef Roberto Alcocer himself! Everything was beautifully done and I enjoyed every bit of it! It is expensive - not someplace you would go to on a whim but rather a special occasion; impress a business client or just darn treat yourself because you deserve it! You can order a la carte if you prefer not to do the whole tasting menu. The menu changes seasonally, I'm told - this was my very first visit here (summer menu). August 2022. They have vegetarian options too! I went with the seafood offerings and was most pleased with everything. Reservations are highly recommended. The menu is eclectic and different. Everything is locally sourced and fresh! Farm to table - and presented with the chef's personality and creativity. Such a delightful experience. First and most importantly - Cost: $95.00/person for a 4 course proper portion dinner w/out wine pairing. If you want to pair your meals with wine then add an additional $35, or was it $45, per person. We opted no wine since we can have that once home; we live about 5 -7 min away. Second: There is an automatic 20% service fee added to your final bill. You can opt to add more, or not, in gratuity in addition to the total bill and service fee. Note: All service fees collected is shared amongst everyone who works that day or evening to supplement their living wage. I truly hope the servers aren't solely paid off tips and receive a decent pay per hour wage additionally. Third: Not kid (under 13) friendly but can be managed with something off the small a la carte menu followed by their favorite fast food joint drive-thru upon leaving. My 8 year was 100% on board with that since she got what she really enjoys eating after. Now let's move on to the experience, food, and service. My husband and I enjoy coming to the bar, but this time he wanted to experience the dining with our 3 children in tow. The staff were all welcoming and attentive throughout. I appreciated how staff explained the prepared dishes brought out so that we understood what we were presented. I'm not into cauliflower and haven't eaten it in at least 20 years so for me to order the coliflor and enjoy it means it was cooked and prepared correctly. The food all tasted great and I like how everything was at a portion that didn't overwhelm. Far too many restaurants serve too much much food for one person and at the end you either waste half or have a moment of gluttony; I prefer proper portions. The price tag is not for the faint of heart nor are the portions size for those who eat a ton in one sitting so avoid this restaurant if you fall into one or both categories. I've gone to a few Michelin restaurants and I was quite impressed each time, but this one felt more like a regular restaurant. The tables were placed so close together, I didn't get the luxury feel that I got from other Michelin star restaurants. Our waiter seems to be little "green" and was not michelin star restaurant level. The food was good but not great. The pace of each course felt little rushed. $50 wagyu upgrade was disappointing. The most disappointing part was the billing. The waiter made an error on our bill and we were overcharged. Yes it was my bad for not catching it before paying for the meal but had I known if it was going to be so hard to get it fixed, I would have looked at our bill more thoroughly. It was no easy way to get in touch with them as phone call goes to the hotel. After many attempts, I couldn't get a live person to speak with, I emailed them. I got a response the next day (no apology) but had no follow up from them after that and I had to chase them a couple of times to get the issue corrected. Absolutely incredible evening spent at Valle. My wife surprised me for my birthday and Valle definitely lived up to the occasion. We were greeted with complimentary champagne and the evening took off from there. We didn't add any additional food other than the tasting menu and we did add on the wine pairing for each of us. I would recommend it if you are into wine and its a special occasion. The pours aren't generous but the pairings are perfect and my wife and I loved that they were all Mexican wines as we love going to Valle de Guadalupe for wine tasting so we heard some familiar names. The service was impeccable, exactly what you would expect from a Michelin star restaurant. You felt attended to the second there was a need or a plate was clean but not smothered. It seemed that all employees worked like a team and if you stopped to look around saw that they were always on the move looking for an opportunity to keep things neat, tidy, and comfortable. The food was amazing! Too many highlights to list. Combine that with the aesthetics of each plate and it definitely felt like a differentiator. Last but not least is the kitchen walk-through at the end of your meal. Love getting to see a bit behind the scenes. Obviously they are used to bringing customers back there but even with that being said, IT WAS SPOTLESS. Felt almost like medical grade cleanliness. I've had some great food in my life, but no one has compared to moms since now. Being Mexican American, there aren't a lot of restaurants that can speak to what flavors I've grown up with..till now. At least on the refined "wow" palette. Upscale,intimate and memorable is everything Valle implemented. Once you step foot into the divine restaurant you have a sense of comfort. You're not in a business, you're in the comfort of friends. Kwan gave us the most elevated experience imaginable. My husband and I never had to ask for anything, but maybe it's because they are able to read minds. Every flavor has a memory tied to it, so it made the experience all the more amazing.
