First time trying Veg Cafe, definitely won't be the last! Friend and dining companion is a vegetarian but I'm not but we both really enjoyed our dinner tonight. Ordered the Brussels sprouts and flatbread pizza as starters and both were quite delicious. Loaded fries and Caesar salad rounded out the meal. Big thanks to our nice server who suggested deep fried mushrooms for the salad since we didn't want the vegan chicken. They were absolutely marvelous, delicately crispy and an outstanding complement to the fresh greens. We had enough food to take some home too. Tried Veg for a work lunch with fellow veggie enthusiasts. Conveniently located, I had no trouble finding street parking right out front. It was momentarily confusing as Veg is located up the stairs to the left of Thai Basil's inside door. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly, invited to take a look at the specials posted on the wall then take any available table. The tables were set modestly with small table linens and water cups, though it was nice they were not regular ol' clear plastic. We were brought a carafe of ice water and scanned the QR code to view the menu. Lots of really interesting combinations that I don't normally see. However the word crepe jumped out at me and I was sold on the Summer Crepe. A coworker ordered the Grilled Peach and Ricotta Flatbread. That was equally appealing to my propensity for sweet and savory. The Flatbread was gorgeous! I am not normally a food picture taker but I thought it was so lovely! It was good, beautifully presented, prepared perfectly...including the grilled peach so it wasn't too mushy and dressed perfectly with basil and balsamic. The "ricotta" was okay. Texture was flawless but a little light in flavor. As was the peach, I expected a nice explosion of peach and char flavor but none was there. Don't get me wrong, I liked it but for as pretty as it was there wasn't any flavor to back it up. (That is why I gave it a 4 star rating) Alternatively, the crepe was AWESOME! A delicate and tasty crepe loaded with a fantastic and flavorful mélange of veggies including mushrooms (YAY!). I could have done without the tofu as I am not a fan but it was flavored enough that I didn't even need to pick it out. It came with a fantastic vinaigrette, when added it made a completely different dish. So yummy! The crepe was rather large, I thought for sure I would be taking it home, but uh...no. it was light and tasty and I finished it all without feeling stuffed. I am eager for another visit to try other menu items! Service was great! Ambiance was cute and downtown-chic. It was bright with lots of natural light from all the windows, I felt very good inside. This was my first adventure at a vegan restaurant and it couldn't have gone better. Located up a narrow staircase the restaurant has pleasant seating arrangements and decor. My son was my culinary companion for the day and helped me with menu selections. We ordered the Momo Cauliflower appetizer (hot, yet firm florets with a delicious sauce) for the table, Crepe Florentine for my son and the Patty Melt with a side of Aaron' Fries for myself. We came here for Sunday brunch after making a reservation. I noticed once we were seated that quite a few "to go" orders were being picked up. They have a lovely outdoor patio for eating there with soothing fountains and lots of greenery. Such a lovely spot for dining. I wound up here on a Sunday afternoon on my drive back to the Bay Area from Tahoe. They were serving their brunch menu. Since I'd never been in before, I chatted with some locals at the next table about what's good (the answer was pretty much everything). I went with the Savory Breakfast Crepe which was so delicious that I'm going to try to imitate the recipe at home! The crispy bits on the crepe were everything! I personally could have done w/o the pickled veggies on top. Apparently I don't care for pickled veggies, so that's just me. The pickled onions on top was surprisingly a nice addition to the plate. The savory breakfast crepe, however, was not what we expected. The entire dish was bland and the curry did not complement well with the crepe. They have additional items written on blackboard tiles by the front but not included on their menu. Found this adorable, quirky vegan restaurant in Sacramento and we cannot wait to go back. It was a bit of a challenge to locate, as it is in the upstairs of an older building above another restaurant. Once we walked in, we were a bit concerned as there appeared to be nobody there, but we did wander in well after the lunch hour. We were greeted by the host/server and seated near a window. The menu has a wonderful assortment of creative plant based and vegan options. I decided on the fig, tofu-bacon flatbread & my date had some sort of vodka pasta dish. Both were delicious. The order took a bit longer to come out than I expected, given that we were the only one there, but everything appeared to be from scratch and made to order. During the wait we did not see our server or anyone else. The restaurant itself is cute, clean and inviting. Would have given 5 stars, but there was a piece of metal (as if from a can) in my date's pasta and while we brought it to their attention, nobody seemed too concerned. Vegan brunch?? Say no more! I'm there! I usually go for the chicken and waffles. The waffle is delightful! Crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside the the syrup isn't too sweet. The waffle has a nice vanilla hint that gives you warm and cozy vibes as ir slides down your throat the aroma escapes through the nasal canal. The "chicken" portion is some type of mushroom. It doesn't replicate chicken at all but it's hearty and gives you a meaty mouth-feel. I prefer to slather it with hot sauce and eat it separately. The Chips and dip were Super cheesy and hot; creamy with a little tang, just like real cheese, only better. The chips were fresh and warm, light and delightfully crispy. The type of chips that don't require much effort to chew and won't slice your gums. I extremely enjoyed the curry powder on chips. Although the chips were from sweet potatoes, the sweetness didn't contrast with the cheese. They were a Big portion, but so light you can eat them all by yourself. The Aaron potatoes were meh. Seasoned well but soggy. Pass. Matcha lattes, good but ask for sweetener if you like sweeter drinks. Strong. Bitter. Earthy. Tastes very authentic. The interior is home-y. Met up with a friend for dinner and to catch up on the last few months of life. Wanted to try a vegan restaurant and found Veg Cafe and so glad we gave this spot a try. Showed up around 6 and it wasn't too busy but over the course of our dinner the place really packed up. It's such a homey and hospitable vibe! You literally feel like you're meeting up at a friends house and almost forget you're at a restaurant. While you dine you're surrounded by flourishing plants and beautiful art by local artists (I'm assuming, which are also for sale!) The space is divided up into separate rooms so there's is an intimate feel. There's also a nice comfy area with cozy couches and a coffee table by the bar where you can lounge. Honestly the photos don't give this space the justice due! It's a really cute and perfect spot to hang out with friends or go out on a date. And the food! The food was delicious! We tried the Aaron fries (wedged) which were so well flavored and crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The ginger lemonade was also the perfect balance of sweetness and tart. For main course we shared the crepe Florentine which had more of an omelet look, taste and texture than a crepe but was flavorful and enjoyable all the same! We also tried one of the specials which was a linguini with a vodka sauce, it was a little spicy but we loved it! The service was warm and friendly!! I got home and called another friend to let her know that we need to go to Veg Cafe so I'm already planning on coming back and tonight's dinner is still lingering on my palate! The Japanese pancake was ok, it had a little too much sauce, and the sauce wasn't that great either. The crepe was not bad, and the burger was also just alright. The sauce on the burger was kind of Asian but not exactly. I feel like it might be better if they paired kimchi with the Gochujang. Overall it was a great experience! "Eat your veggies!" Sometimes even as adults we need to be reminded and this restaurant is a perfect way to add some more veggies into your diet. This morning my mom, toddler and I brunched with a group of friends and had a wonderful time at this lovely restaurant with neat vintage decor! I ordered the Savory Breakfast Crepe, the yellow curry taste authentic and I loved the flavorful potatoes and pickled veggies on top, this crepe is large and very filling!! My toddler's Ricotta Toast was filling as well, her way of eating it was take a couple bites of the toast and just basically eat the ricotta lol, I tried some and it's delicious, took leftovers home! To drink my mom and I shared a pot of one of my favorite teas, Enchanted Chai Loose Leaf Tea by Kitchen Witch Gourmet, so good! I would definitely recommend checking out this restaurant located next to Thai Basil and a chic clothing store, special shout-out to our awesome server Calvin, he had a bubbly personality and got all of our orders right for our group of 12! I'll definitely be back to try their vegan version of their chicken and waffles after seeing Bridget's and tho I'm trying to cut back on sugar, I may just have to indulge on a Samoa donut from a local vegan bakery they had on display, since Samoa Girl Scout Cookies are my favorite! read more

Ive been coming here for years.. Sadly it was the worst experience EVER encountered and we will not be coming back. We weren't greeted at the door.. It felt like we were greeting them? How ironic. lol.. We sat ourselves, waited awhile to receive our waters.. We began to order the same order as we typically do every time over the years. We asked for our food to be well-done per usual. However, this time the order came out wrong and undercooked. Fine, we had no issues with waiting for our meal..mistakes happen.. After some time, the waitress who goes by the name Soul.. comes over and pulled up a chair.. to explain that we cannot have the meal cooked the way we requested? Like what? lol...Mind you, we've been coming here for years... She kept rambling on with her condescending tone and covert hostility with her explanation. At this point, I asked her to cancel the order.. she still insisted on speaking over me...and at me.. therefore I had to keep on respectfully asking her to just "cancel the order again" no problem... no further explanation needed. She cuts me off while I'm talking and says "yea, you said that like 5 times already" and turns around to make a catty "roaring" noise under her breath (which was childish and very rude) she still proceeded to ramble on to make her point? What is up with this lady being so argumentative?! Never in my life, have I've encountered someone like her here. We spend $70-100+ every time we come here and tip generously. (Of course not this time, not deserving) Then, when we ask to speak to the Manager because her appalling behavior.. he goes on defending her actions..and her "feelings".. like what? It is not our responsibility to cater to your employee's feelings. This is the food/restaurant industry. He goes on justifying her actions.. stating she was the longest employee employed there and was the one who trained him? Yet, again. Still siding with his friend.. instead of handling the customer concerns respectfully and professionally. From that moment on I knew he was not listening.. since they seem to be buddy buddy. I proceeded to ask the Manager if I can speak to upper management or the Owner? Shockingly, he said "he was the manager and Owner" ...lol the statement was quite contradicting.. because he just mentioned that the waitress Soul "trained him".. that's quite odd.. or shall we say fraudulent much?
