I usually like this place. The food is good, the service in the evenings is great. But... I just waited 25mins for my food with absolutely no acknowledgement from the staff. I even asked about my food from this Italian-looking douchebag (who kinda looked like an annoying Superman-and keep in mind, Superman is already annoying) and he told me he'd look into it. Then promptly ignored me the next 3 times he walked by me. Then laughed at his co-worker who was sitting in the booth behind me over the awkwardness. And mind you, we were sitting in the front portion of the restaurant. Eventually I asked the girl who helped me at the register. She looked at me blankly. Then checked. Then found nothing. I told her my order. And she didn't know what happened to my order. So she just told the chef to make a new burger with lentil soup. I told them to give it to me to-go. Ever since they hooked up with Postmates, Doordash, and Grubhub their business has been booming. They are always busy with pick-up orders, but because of this their customer service has seriously plummeted. I remember before these delivery services became a thing, Veggie Grill cared a lot about customers and would even request feedback via customer service cards. The workers were always friendly and inviting, however, because of the high demand, they just don't care about you anymore as a customer. They are more worried about pushing all the food out than to maintain their customer service. I came in on Friday and ordered to-go. After waiting 30 minutes, I went up and waited in line again (just to not be rude to the other people who were waiting) and told them about the situation. They said they accidentally gave my order away to someone else and it would just be another 10 minutes... wrong answer. I felt insulted because of how long I waited already and on their end to not make any amend to fix the situation or compensate for my lost time. I told them I just wanted to get a refund because that was ridiculous. Someone else came over and said it would be out right away, but its awful to see how the quick change of tone was after requesting a refund. They only care about getting your money and have lost me as a customer. read more

This update is a bit different. I have only had one opportunity to go back to Veggie Grill in Long Beach. On my second visit, the food, service, and value were excellent once again. For Thanksgiving, I decided I wanted to try to make a kale salad similar to that served at Veggie Grill. I googled the Veggie Grill kale salad and came up with a recipe that one of the owners provided in an interview. I was very happy to see the actual recipe. Cudos to Veggie Grill for being willing to share the recipe for this fantastic salad. I purchased all the ingredients and followed the recipe with one exception. I did not add as much sugar as listed in the recipe. My version came out very well. Everyone raved about the salad. Thanks to Veggie Grill for adding a unique and exciting twist to our Thanksgiving dinner. Now, my enthusiasm and good results in no way indicates I will be going into competition with Veggie Grill or even making this salad on a regular basis. This is a COMPLICATED salad recipe. The dressing has to be made the day before and the kale has to sit in the dressing overnight in order to break down some. Unmarinated or uncooked kale is not pleasant to eat. Just prepping the kale for marinating took a lot of time because I had to cut up six bunches into bite sized pieces. You also have to make a corn salsa separate from the dressing. I spent more time making this salad than I did on any other part of our dinner. The time it took me to make this salad shows that Veggie Grill takes the time to prepare a great product. As someone who cooks frequently and loves good food, the Veggie Grill staff has my respect for the time and effort they put forth to bring their customers an excellent product. read more

I learned of this place through a Yelp event at the USS Battleship Iowa and Veggie Grill was a vendor. They let us sample a little salad with quinoa, lettuce and chicken and i loved the flavor. I brought my cousin here and she ordered soup and salad. I ordered a Harvest Bowl which consists of sausage, squash, carrots and salad with gravy and it was good! I had it along with a hibiscus ginger tea beverage which is quite refreshing. I'm going back here for sure! As i walked around i looked at what everybody was eating and everything looked scrumptious. Man, I really wish Connecticut had a Veggie Grill. This place rocks. I could easily eat here everyday, and be completely OK with life. The "All Hail Kale" and "Bombay Bowl" were both my favorites. For $9.25, the AHK came with marinated kale, quinoa, red cabbage slaw, corn salsa, agave-roasted walnuts, ginger-papaya vinaigrette. It's perfect if you're looking for something green, nutritious, and delicious. Add tempeh or blackened chicken for an extra $2.85, trust me you won't regret it. As for the BB, it was easily my favorite of the two. For $8.95, you get a huge whopping of herb-roasted veggies, super grains, steamed kale,cannellini beans, cilantro/green curry sauce with coconut milk, almonds, hemp seeds. I always added the roasted tempeh, it's SO good. I can't tell you how many times I left the gym or yoga studio craving the Bombay Bowl for dinner - it really is that damn good. Oh, and their organic teas? Taste all of them, because I definitely did. And what I ended up doing was I would make a Frankenstein creation by combining all 3. Try it, because you can't knock it until you've tried it. Moderately priced, conveniently located, and always impeccable service - I can't wait to come back. This review is waaaaaaaaaaaaay over due. I 1st came to this location back in July of this year. Two friends of mine who do not know each other were both raving about this place. One was talking about it in Irvine & the other friend was talking about it in El Segundo. I finally went and let me just say...I became a regular in two days. The LB location already knew who I was. I was lil embarassed so I started swithching the location up. There food is so darn good. Can't get enough of the burger I think its called Stack , their Sweet Potato fries & the Kale Salad. If your in the process of trying to be healthy this is a good place to start. The only thing I did not care for was the Mac-n-Cheese. You can count the number of places that offer Kale and quinoa on their menu - especially in a fast casual setup. Kale is a super star of dark greens, and full of nutrients, and quinoa is a super whole grain with twice as much protein in brown rice, and more fiber. Now this review is not about nutrition, but knowing what is in your food, and the idea that its accessible in a setup as easy as veggie grill, makes it an ideal destination for anyone that is looking to eat healthy and stay in shape. It is true, their menu has lot of vegetarian splurges, that could be as much calorie dense as any other place, but if I were to pay attention, the plant protein they use is zero trans-fat/zero saturated fat - makes all the difference. The veggie steak has about 27g of protein, at a mere 140 calories. Personally my favorite hands down is their all hail kale salad, and if you are looking for protein add the 'fake chicken' which is a plant protein. its done flavorful. Their chocolate parfait is diary free. I didnt even realize the place is vegetarian, unless I pay attention. The food is very flavorful. The menu is pretty diverse, they have healthy choices, and also allow you to splurge, if you are on one of those high calorie diet(cauliflower mash/'fake' friend chicken which tasted as good as fried chicken and gravy - yum!), and also kind of like bar snacks, such as their chikin wings. The price isnt that expensive. i can find so many things for under 10$s. The carrot cake was super delicious. One of my favorite. The decor of this location - I cant get over it. My friend and I came here for our usual Saturday lunch and catch up. I"m neither vegan nor vegetarian, but am into eating healthy. I didn't know this restaurant was vegan. I made the decision based on the number of stars on Yelp and the name. I just skimmed through the reviews to make sure nothing too terrible jumped out. I ordered the cheeseburger and my friend ordered the "fish" tacos. I loved the burger. I thought I was eating real beef until it was pointed out to me that it wasn't. Btw, the menu doesn't specify that the "meats" are fake. The slice of Chao cheese on the burger was creamy and delicious, I thought it was dairy based. My friend's tacos were also good, and yes, you've guessed it, the fish meat was not fish. She thought that the tacos could've used more sauce, though. With its clean bright environment and friendly staff, this might be our new favorite place for Saturday lunch. read more

One thing I can't stand about some vegetarian options is when they try to disguise themselves as "regular" food. Tofurkey, tofubacon. Impostors. Be the best eggplant you can be, Eggplant. Don't pretend to be a burger, or a lobster. You're not fooling anyone. Veggies should celebrate their innate veg-ness without resorting to chicanery and sleight-of-mouth trickery. And yet here we are looking at Veggie Grill serve up dishes doing just that. And they are great at it. I tried the Santa Fe Crispy Chickin' with Sweetheart Fries, and if this is vegetarian, who needs meat? I do. But still, this could put a dent in my carnivorous ways. I dunno how they did it, but the texture is pretty darn close to perfect. While I'd never mistake it for a chicken breast, it definitely passes as a giant chicken nugget or ground patty.The firm "flesh" flakes in the right way, with a good hearty mouth feel. It's all very convincing. And satisfying. I was relieved to see how full I felt afterwards, fearing that it would be too lightweight to feel like a meal. I would be a total convert if not for one thing: price. I don't dispute the quality of ingredients, nor the general healthiness of their food over any other burger joint. But a burg, side, and drink will run you around 15 bucks. In-N-Out, is what, like 6? It's not a totally fair comparison, but it needs to be addressed. It's a tough choice for an omnivore, who can find the "real" thing for half (or even a third) the cost. So while I loved what I had, it won't be an all the time place for me. But non-meat eaters will love the convenience and quality of a place like this, when salads and beets or whatever get tiresome. read more

Breads, startches, salads and tofu. Booooy was there tofu. Needless to say it wasn't necessarily the healthiest of diets. I was simply happy not to consume my friends. Fast forward all of these years and the options are not only limitless but well worth the wait! I've frequented veggie grill and saw it as a convenient option if in a bind and don't mind spending $15 on a meal fir myself on the go. Never have I had the standard of service that I encountered at this Long Beach location however. The staff is mostly young and very friendly, manager is accommodating and the place is spotless! Plenty of exterior seating, dog friendly, good people watching and an all around dandy shopping center. I've had the buffalo wrap at various locations, but today's was fucking tasty!!! Sorry, my enthusiasm got the best of me just then...... Okay, I've got my composure back... I also had the cauliflower mashed potatoes for the first time, SHIT! - Goddamn! why the hell have I not had these till now?! Look. I'll clearly be back. I try not to frequent these as I do enjoy having the option to consume certain things on special occasions like um, say pay day. This location was the best years ago (in my opinion) but has really gone downhill in terms of service, cleanliness, and food quality. I eat at other Veggie Grills and none have wait times longer than this one. The food is served mediocre and you feel quite miffed after paying $11 for an entree of stuff that comes in frozen and just needs to be prepped, only to have it be served with a side of fries that actually end up being a few cold ones. Perhaps it sounds petty and unrealistic, but if I can count the fries with a single glance on my plate, that's pretty sad. My last visit here, I ordered a Beyond Burger with fries. Vastly overpriced (though usually willing to give my money to vegan establishments) and I received seven french fries with it. $14 for a burger (where a two pack can be bought for $6 at Whole Foods, of all places) and seven fries is a little steep. On top if it, food takes 15-20+ minutes to come out in the regular. The poor souls working there have to deal with dinner rushes while trying to accommodate online orders funneling in from god knows how many companies (Postmates, LA Bite, GrubHub, etc.) so the people dining-in get neglected. It's not sustainable for the employees or the restaurant and hasn't been "fixed" in nearly a year. The quaint plaza that houses this particular Veggie Grill off PCH is tiny health food nut haven. Having been on a kick since I started up my long distance training, I finally decided to give this place a shot. One of the drawbacks of this place is that it's not a large enough chain to be forced to report the calorie content of their food to the public. I would imagine it's much higher than one would expect so I am wiring this review based on taste alone. The power salad - totally delicious and it tastes light enough to devour the whole thing in one sitting. It comes with kale, quinoa, avocado and a medley of other veggies. I am a sucker for their buffalo strips. It doesn't taste like chicken but it does the job if you are trying to keep off meat for a while. I highly recommend this place for those of you who have yet to have vegetarian dishes as a starter (not that I will be giving up meat any time soon...)! read more

So happy to have discovered Veggie Grill! I am a vegan, raised vegetarian, so for the first time in my life I can eat a "cheeseburger." The food isn't your typical odd-tasting tofu, everything is delicious and flavorful, with good textures. It's also healthy! I'm always excited to try something new here. So far, my favorites would be the carne asada sandwich and the buffalo bomber. I usually never eat fries, but I always get a side of sweet potato fries here. They're not greasy like some other places'. Whatever the dipping sauce is that they give you is fantastic too. The actual building is nice, great architecture/landscaping/decor and always clean. Doesn't cost more than $15 for a full meal. I show this place off to my friends who are skeptical of my vegan diet - the food is great even if you're not going veg. I'm sorry but I will no longer come back to this location again. Or if I do, it's going to be really rare. It's sad because once a Veggie Grill opened up in Long Beach, I was happy because that meant I didn't have to drive all the way to Costa Mesa or Irvine anymore. Well the problem I have is bad management. My #1 order is the Sante Fre Chicken with just the lettuce and the spicy mayo. They have messed up three times now. The third time they messed up, and we let them know, they didn't even switch out to a new patty. They simply took my plate back and wiped off the guacamole and other stuff and served me the same patty. Now what if I was allergic to guacamole and/or the other stuff? I can't help but think of other people that this would happen to. I know I'm complaining, but I worked in the food industry for 2 & 1/2 years. It's really not that hard nor is it an unreasonable request. I mean, I used to do it all the time. Plus if we made the food wrong and someone brought it back, we'd make a new order because if we simply wiped off whatever ingredient the customer didn't want, we might be held liable if they were allergic. Now I know not all of the staff are to blame. Particularly, why can't the kitchen just read the orders and make them correctly? Also, when they give the plate to the checkers, why aren't the checkers checking the food correctly? Again, I used to work in the food industry, and it's not hard. I do like VG's policy in giving out free meal cards though whenever they make a mistake (to keep customers coming back). However, how many free meal cards am I going to get to justify getting my order wrong? It's funny because 5 other parties got free meal cards that night, and this isn't the first time I've seen a # of people get free meal cards. It's just frustrating because I'm a fan of VG and the food (that's why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1) and to see bad management just ruin this place is disappointing. read more

This revelation of a restaurant is proof that it truly is possible to banish meat and soda from all menus without missing them at all. The wonderful food here is served up with plenty of flavor. Who wouldn't love a kale salad that's as delicious as say, swordfish with melted butter (the secret must be in the preparation and sesame sauce added). You don't have to be a vegan to love the food here and realize what a horrible game the factory-farm, fast-food restaurants have been running on us for decades. It doesn't have to be that way. Thank you Veggie Grill for showing us all that there are healthy, flavorful alternatives. If restaurants like this had been around since the 50's, maybe the Mad Men generation would be outliving their parents - instead of dealing with clogged hearts and lungs. This Veggie Grill is located in the Marketplace Long Beach next to the Trader Joe's. The parking lot is usually full but give it a minute and you can find a space. When you walk in your already in line so grab the menu so you can scan all the AWESOME choices. If your with someone I suggest you order different items from the menu because you get a better idea of what this vegan place can do. If it's your first time and you want to be cautious I suggest ordering the Santa Fe Crispy Chickin'. It's just like a light delicious no meat non spicy chicken sandwich. The burgers and sandwiches come with either slaw or chilli. I'd choose the slaw or upgrade to the sweetheart fries. Once you order they give you a number and the servers bring the food to your table. Throughout the meal the servers will also take finished dishes away. The servers are sweet, nice and helpful.The music is horrible. I've never been here when the music was confusing and just bad. They have bathrooms in the back and seating outside. I've taken friends, family, vegetarians, and meat eaters here and I've yet to have someone regret coming here. That's not to say I or they love the entire menu because honestly I don't care too much for the chili but I think Veggie Grill does far more right than wrong. Side note: If your not a huge fan of processed foods( like the patties used for the mock meat) I suggest you get a salad without adding any fake meat...which should work out since the salads are both tasty and huge. read more

It's healthy! How can you go wrong? Had the thai salad at this location. Its a heaping bowl of healthy ingredients. The tempeh may take some getting used to if you're a meat eater but the rest of the ingredients include veggies like kale or grains like quinoa.
