A wonderful spot for breakfast and brunch in the UWS. It's the only diner on Columbus Avenue, but from the moment you step in you can tell that this place cares about the details -- everything about the atmosphere feels modern, clean, and inviting. You'll find a lot of breakfast basics here: eggs, omelettes, pancakes, bagels, and so on. No out-of-the-box selections, but everything is tasty and presented nicely. It really is a top-tier diner for this city as far as food execution and decor. Some items are affordable, others are a tad overpriced. You can get a two eggs breakfast with toast and hashbrowns for $9, pancakes or french toast for $11, and a BEC sandwich for $8, for instance. But a greek omelette is $16, despite being a few dollars less at their Viand Cafe location on Broadway. But all in all, I'm glad to have Viand here on Columbus. There's nothing quite like it nearby, and they're doing a great job across the board. read more

I've been here twice, and both times the food was pretty bad. I got the avocado toast, and it was completely tasteless and the bread was burned. Another in my party got the corn beef sandwich--bread was pretty burnt also although he said the corned beef was ok. Another got the quesadilla--it was massive, but soft (not crispy on the outside), with barely anything but cheese. There are so many better places in the neighborhood--we won't be back. read more

Just visiting NYC. Found this restaurant on yelp. I am happy and full after eating there. The are portions are large. I still have half my food for midnight tonight when I will still be up trying to fall asleep. I agree with the previous review in that the meat was salty. But it was delicious none the less. I ordered the brick chicken with lemon potatoes and spinach. Just what I was looking for. Now, I disagree with a previous review about the service my service was superb. Friendly, willing to have quick conversation about the food, and paid enough attention to me without being overbearing. I'm here for a week. May visit again. read more

I ordered the shrimp and scallops via DoorDash. Two stars because waffle fries tasted homemade and the haricot verts were cooked well. Third star because the scallops were cooked well but were over seasoned, salty and had a slight fishy aftertaste. Three times In a row when I went to pick up a take-out order, I was treated in a very rude manner with a nasty tone of voice by a woman at the pickup counter. Three different women on three different occasions. If a business does not ask its employees to offer professional and courteous service then it doesn't need my business. This is a great place to bring the kids. They are super friendly, have great service, and tasty food. They cook with a Greek flair, and so the food is very flavorful. Where do I even start, one of the worst places I've ever eaten, at first the host tells us to go sit down at the end table outside, doesn't show us to our table just tells us where to go, we get there and the table is filthy, I let that go someone comes and cleans it it's fine whatever, then he gives us the menu and it's got a ketchup stain on it again I let that go whatever, the waiter brings us out a glass water bottle and it's filthy with stuff floating inside it, this place is seriously gross and disgusting don't believe all the good reviews it has I was fooled by that too, BUT to top it all off I'm half through my eggs benidict which was absolutely horrible and bland but anyways I find this SHARP piece of plastic in the middle of my food, I had in my mouth chewed it and almost swallowed it. I told the waiter and obviously it wasn't his fault and I saw him go over to the manager or owner and tell him and the owner pointed over at our table and gave a look didn't even come over and apologize or anything. Horrible dirty decrepit place, especially during the pandemic you would think you would take sanitation a bit more seriously, Absolutely awful will not be returning to this dump ever. read more

Took my Aunt here and the turkey was excellent- both on my platter, and in the salad she got. The owner or whomever was running the show was good in getting us seated with only a short wait for a Sunday afternoon. The service is very good. I had read good things about this place but I was unimpressed. I was welcomed warmly, order was taken quickly, food arrived quickly. I had pastrami reuben and onion rings. Good onion rings. Pastrami was flavorful but maybe too lean, and cooked almost to the consistency of country ham or bacon. I could not taste or see the Russian dressing that was supposed to be on it, and there was very little sauerkraut. After the quick initial service I was ignored for a long time. I would have been happy to have a second beer but had no opportunity to order one until the meal was pretty much finished. Note also that this seems to be a popular place to bring the kids after day care, so unless you enjoy being surrounded by loud children while you dine, go somewhere else. There are a lot of good options in this neighborhood and I have enjoyed all that I have tried more than Viand. read more

Just about everything we ordered was OK but nothing was great. I'm giving feedback here in the hope that things will improve because it's great to have a place like this on the UWS and the ambiance was nice (cozy). OK, first feedback is on the hash browns - they were mushy (that's the only word I can use to describe them). Hash browns should be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. If I had to guess I'd say the cook wasn't draining the potatoes properly. Next the eggs - I ordered 2 eggs over easy and one came out broke and the yolk was all over my plate (that's unacceptable, the cook should have started over). Next the toast - hard to screw up toast but it came out more like 2 slices of bread that were never toasted. The Calamari - bland (looks great on the plate but bland). Service was a bit slow but that's to be expected for a new restaurant. Coffee was very good! read more

A friend who lives in the neighborhood recommended Viand for a weekday lunch. Viand is a mix between a coffee shop and a diner, with outdoor seating. The staff provide excellent service, but I felt some items were a bit pricey. We ordered the vegetable panini which was to include portobello mushroom, but didn't. Instead it was mostly grilled squash, onions, and eggplant. Not wanting to make a fuss we ate it. The panini also came with a small side salad. The panini was certainly large, but I felt a bit over priced at $17.00. read more

Excellently run diner, very clean, nice bathrooms. Huevos rancheros leave something to be desired- stick with standard Americana fare. After waiting on a delivery of a simple Capellini Pomodoro, a plate of linguini arrives instead. I Call The manager Nick, tells me they don't serve Capellini, after I've ordered a half dozen times from this location on Columbus in the past 2 months. Now, they couldn't call and just tell me they don't serve this dish anymore ? Nope. Totally unprofessional. And the linguini was a one star dish. Great food with friendly but slightly slow service at times - mainly while waiting for the bill. My girlfriend enjoyed her greek omelette and I had some delicious chocolate chip pancakes and bacon. We've been coming here every weekend for the last few months since it's only a few blocks away and we love it. The burgers and fries are fantastic but other menu items like the the chicken parmigiana, meatloaf, and pasta are awesome too. Big portions as well! This restaurant took over the old Jackson Hole location. The menu has a variety of traditional diner dishes. My bf and I walked in around 11:30am on president's day. I ordered the corn beef hash with 2 eggs and he ordered the grilled cheese combo. In additional, we ordered the Nutella pancakes to share. Everything was pretty good. Took one star off because they forgot the whipped cream, banana and walnuts on top of the Nutella pancakes. They literally came out with a short stack of pancakes with Nutella. We told the waitress right away and she brought it back. read more
