Last night I went to The Viz for what may be my last time ever and when I thought about how much I will miss it, a single tear rolled down my cheek. What will I miss about this place? First and foremost, there's the complimentary bread. It may not be the most delicious bread available, but it's (A) warm and (B) free, so how could one possibly complain? Second, I will miss the giant picture menu plastered over half the restaurant which continues to grow as they add new items to the menu. I will especially miss how every picture is taken in at least a semi-professional manner except for the crab cakes, which look like hockey pucks. (Yum!) Finally, I will miss the food. Last night I ordered a chicken parmigiana sandwich and it was delicious. It was especially delicious considering it and a drink were less than $9. The fries are crispy and tasty as well. Some other dishes I have enjoyed over the years include fettuccine with chicken added, pizza, and the mahi-mahi. When I ordered the mahi-mahi I remembered being impressed by how "complete" a meal it was, with vegetables and whatnot on the side... What can I say, it is easy to go for weeks without eating a meal like that as a student. BOTTOM LINE: The Viz has ultra cheap Italian food of surprising quality in a bright and playful atmosphere, and if you are expecting Dan Tana's for $7, you are only fooling yourself. read more

This spot has been my local favorite for awhile for a yummy indulging pizza, but the customer service is just so bad. I've avoided writing this review thinking it would be a one time thing but seems like the younger woman that works at the register is always there now. She's very rude and short when I've picked up my order. Today I asked her to give me a better box for my pizza bc the one it was in looked all soggy and she just slid it over without putting gloves on. I'd say you need Jesus, but I think you need Gordon Ramsey. I've been reading the complaints from customers and responses from Tito, and I'm seeing the bare minimum effort to make things right. Tito denies the story of the couple that got foodsick and the woman with a live insect in her salad, makes no effort to make it right with customers, and the issue with the girl on the phone being rude and hanging up on people appears to be ongoing. Here's a suggestion,Tito... actually *fix* the problems at your business. I think it's family owned and they have the teenage kids working there for free because they don't want to do anything, serve or even listen to what the customer is asking... the most I got was "look at the menu above the cashiers"... when I asked if they had fettuccini Alfredo, keep in mind the menu she handed me was for catering and big orders. The meat lasagna is fantastic. I freaking love the antipasto salad as well. The lemon herb vinaigrette dressing really puts it over the top. The reason why I gave it three stars is because they use smoked sausage instead of Italian saussge on their pizzas. I mean, come on. Even Pizza Hut uses Italian sausage on their pizzas. I waited an hour before receiving a call from eat 24 telling me I could wait 30 more minutes for a fresh order and charged full price or cancel it all together. The order was late because of a large catering order which was dropped just before mine. NOT MY PROBLEM. I said just deliver the cold food and a discount would be fine. They refused to send the food even after offering up the idea in the first place. Get your shit together and make time for large catering orders. Why would I order a $25 pasta when I could just walk a block to get $3 taco feast at the corner.... because I'm puking my brains out and can't leave the house. In a word: bizarre. It's a cheap-o Italian restaurant with an entirely Latino staff who can make better Italian food than the Italians at Palermo's - check. They serve beer and "wine" and are literally a block from USC - check. When you order your food, they give you a small stuffed animal to keep at your table instead of a plastic number identifier - check. Pictures of food not just on the menus bit literally lining half of their entire restaurant - check. Always a cop eating there. Always - check. So much bread is offered before, during, and after your meal (yes bread for dessert - not bread pudding - bread) that you are guaranteed to hate yourself upon leaving - check. I won't go out of my way to eat here, but having just worked on some NO ON PROP 8 commercials that shot near USC I have to say I was glad I suggested that the crew eat here - it's incredibly mediocre but entirely inoffensive and cheap. Everything is cooked to order & as always we both sampled each other's plates & both dishes were the best we've had. The Penne Vodka sauce was to die for, it was made to perfection. The chicken Parmesan was just as fresh. This place is nothing fancy; it is just a mom & pop hole in the wall with authentic home cooked Italian food. Everything is very reasonably priced & can take about 15-20 minutes to get your order, which is fine by us, as we prefer a freshly cooked meal anyway. I feel bad for the college kids that have to suffer through this place. For the same price I'd go live off of Chipotle. We placed the order for a chicken club sandwich and a lasagna. I noticed the chicken club sandwich came out after 10 minutes and just sat there on the counter. After another 10+ minutes I see another container with our order number on the lid. They just let it sit there for another few minutes. For a place that's wasn't busy at all (1 person in line and about 7 or 8 people seated, I don't understand where the disconnect was. Their fast food pasta has less oil, and just as much for each portion. They have chicken in their bow tie farfalle pesto, too! And they don't mix their different noodles accidentally, so no surprise fettuccine. Service Review: Nothing in particular about the service. My order came out within 10 minutes, which was a lot faster than at Pasta Roma. Venue Review: The restaurant is small, but has lots of indoor seating.
