What a fantastic experience. Food is superb, excellent flavoring, large portions, great martini's, friendly atmosphere with great service. Nothing to do with covid per se. This was the beginning of the lock downs so they were already limiting patrons, but were still well staffed. Although there were more than enough staff for 6-8 (max) tables, the service was mediocre at best. The food was practically non-edible as well as ill-presented. We had read bad reviews about them pre-covid but wanted to give them a try because we didn't know ourselves. The bad reviews were well deserved. It was our first and our last time there, we were counting on it being at least good enough on our list to have a new restaurant to patronize regularly, but my son & I won't be back. We have been to Vogue several times, and if it weren't for the French Onion Soup, I wouldn't return. Our waiter was excellent, first off. He was the only saving grace. With upscale places starting to come into Surprise, Vogue better step it up. Your menus are torn and look worn; your outside tables barely stand up without a million levels under them. This time, the chicken cordon bleu wasn't prepped by the kitchen in time to serve at 5 p.m. The potatoes au gratin were ice cold. Thankfully our waiter seemed not surprised and brought out a new one. My fiancé and I have eaten here twice. One merely forgettable experience and another disappointing visit. Each time we've dined here the service has been slow. More in a "we expect you to sit and relax and have a good time" way but when you're waiting to order, then waiting to get the drinks you ordered for ~10 minutes you start to wonder what's going on. The cocktails were the highlight of the experience, which kind of says it all. One with bourbon and the other with tequila and we enjoyed both. But the fritto misto calamari appetizer was utterly bizarre. It was delivered as one giant fried mass of carrot strips, a handful of overcooked, rubbery calamari and an indistinguishable amount of anything else in the description. I think it also mentioned scallops which we couldn't find. Really just an offputting presentation and I'm not usually a stickler for presentation in a restaurant. Wholly underwhelming when you really want calamari to be the star. For our side we got the balsamic Brussels sprouts for $9 and they were basically a balsamic soup. I love balsalmic, but again, just an offputting presentation that also took away any crispiness you'd otherwise get by not drowning the Brussels in sauce. Neither of us enjoyed them. Aside from that we each got burgers, which were solid but we have had better burgers at a number of places, so it doesn't give us reason to return for those. Overall just an underwhelming spot for us. It's affordable but when you're out spending money you expect at least an above average experience ... and the wait times and food just not being good make it average for me. Going up to five stars after several really good visits. Obviously the martinis are great and they have a good wine selection as well but the over-looked part of Vogue is the Seafood specials. The stuffed sole we had on Valentines day was unreal. The salmon and the scallops are both made to perfection. Ask about the specials each time you go in as they do change and are typically great! This was a terrible dining experience along with awful service. We ordered the oysters Rockefeller and they were spoiled. How the chef didn't smell the rotten oysters are beyond comprehension. The duck was dry and so salty it was hard to eat. The service was ridiculously bad. We spent more time waiting for attention then actually dining. Please don't waste your time or money here. Yesterday we celebrated our 48th Anniversary at Vogue Bistro on Waddell in Surprise AZ. We had Oysters Rockefeller for Appetizer (delicious); Onion Soup & Lobster Bisque (delicious); husband had Chicken Cordon Bleu (delicious) and I had Salmon. I had salmon every dinner while we were in Alaska and because I had salmon so often I was sure I would return to Alaska to spawn. This salmon was as good if not significantly better! We topped off with crème brulee and bread pudding (delicious). And of course we had our favorite wine " Amarone" which we were exposed to in Italy. Our waitress Kristen was personable, knowledgeable and attentive and we thoroughly enjoyed our interactio with her. Had dinner again at Vogue Bistro and again a 5 star meal with 10 Star service. Jason our waiter for our last 3 meals is more than amazing. He is professional, attentive, and charming. The food was palate pleasing; I had Chicken Cordon Bleu and my wife and our guest had the special, a Branzino that was perfectly prepared and plated. Quality and reasonably priced food, given the atmosphere. I got a smoked salmon appetizer and the Vogue fries and it was very good. I was probably three or four decades younger than the typical client so I stuck out like a sore thumb. It was cute to see groups of retired ladies having lunch, exchanging gifts etc. The service was very good; I was treated slightly differently than the rest of the clientele (only younger servers interacted with me, the older servers in my same section stuck with the older ladies), but I haven't decided if I liked that or not. Maybe I'm overthinking it. Either way, I like Vogue. I had my prom dinner here years ago so I'm glad such a nice restaurant (that's not a massive chain) has lasted in Surprise. Used to be a great place. Recommend first they fire their hostess immediately. Super rude! We had a reservation and they seated us outside. Normally I would not care because if they were to seat someone outside they would have misters and fans to keep it cool. Not a single person was seared there but us. It was like an oven over 115! I noticed some two tops open and seats at the bar so we asked to be moved inside and were very rudely told it's outside or nothing. With that I informed the bXXX we are leaving. Was great before and has gone way down hill this is not a cheap place so if they don't realize they are in the hospitality business and treat customers well they won't have a business. Im very disappointed with my order. Salad does not hold up to the description on menu. It offers fresh mozzarella, heirloom tomatoes and basil. Well, they delivered soggy cheese, squishy Roma tomatoes and NO Basil. Also. A sad wilted spring mix. I'm taking care of my mom who finally got her appetite back. She was craving a caprese salad. Me being exhausted,thought it would be easy to order one, so I could get a break. My brother picked it up for us. I wish I would have because I wouldn't have paid for it. My husband took me here for a birthday dinner spontaneously without a reservation and we were blown away! We were seated at the best outside table ( preferred) with the best ambiance helped by the awesome breeze. Jason was our dinner experience associate. He was very personable and knew the menu inside and out. We loved how the drinks, appetizers, soups and entrees were brought out at just the right time so we could appreciate each step. We weren't rushed thru our dining experience and therefore enjoyed the entire evening. For icing on the cake ( no pun) I received a dessert of my choice for my bday. We went from not even believing we could dine here without a reservation to having the best experience of our time in Surprise. We will definitely return!
