I don't mind waiting for 25 minutes to get breakfast but it is kind of annoying to get back home and realize that ingredients have been forgotten, the bagel isn't toasted, or whatever the error is that day. I was addicted to their cheese and onion bagels long before I moved here, and have to force myself not to frequent them more often, because if there's anything that's not great for losing weight, it's a giant bagel covered in cheddar cheese and onions and then loaded up with cream cheese. This place desperately needs a pickup counter. I've ordered from them over the phone a number of times. And when I go to pick up my order on a weekend, the place is always in chaos. It's impossible to tell who's helping whom, which customers are waiting for what -- it's just a madhouse with people standing everywhere. There's a real lack of efficiency. I just want to grab the bag of bagels I ordered and leave, but that's not possible. On my last visit, there was just a mass of people with no line. I went to the cashier who said he could help me, but then some dude claimed I cut in front of him. Really? How could I even tell if I was cutting in front of someone when there's absolutely no organization at this place? I've been coming to this Western Bagel for years and it's always been great food and customer service. This time not only were the bagels cold and chewy, when I Went to talk to the staff they completely ignored me. Didn't even acknowledge me or apologize or even explain. Western Bagel is pretty solid. Tons of bagel options to choose from with unique cream cheese options (although, I'm a standard strawberry cream cheese type of gal). No fuss sandwiches of all kinds. Outdoor patio seating. There is a lot behind the building and below structure parking. The parking situation is a bit tight, but there is free valet. I think its ridiculous to valet at a shopping center like this. Park your own car, it won't kill you. There is also street parking (metered and free) on Ventura and side streets. Sometimes there is a wait at peak hours, so plan ahead if you are in a rush. read more

Here's my solution for Western: Either stop making bagels or start importing that Catskills Mountains water running through NYC's veins! I will gladly pay 2 even 3 times more for a bagel that doesn't taste like a 2-day old piece of cardboard that passed through an oven. Their bagels may be delicious, but the service at this location is terrible. As someone who worked at a bagel shop before, it is inexcusable that they can NEVER get my order right. I honestly do not see how it's so confusing to order something with half of one spread and half another. I ordered cucumbers once, was asked three times if I wanted cucumbers or tomatoes and still received tomatoes. I hate tomatoes! I have been eating lunch here for the past couple of weeks, and the bagels are really fresh and they toast them to perfection. 1st of all, being japanese & growing up in South Central Los Angeles, bagels were never on the menu at my or any neighbors house. i never had bagels til my early 20's... when i started to eat bagels, i went to the Noah's, next to the House of Billiards on Cedros & Ventura. they made awesome bagel concoctions, mainly my favorite, the plain bagel with melted provolone on top w/sun dried tomato... yum..! anyway, back to this joint... so i order a cheese & onion bagel with tomato, avocado & red onion with my cream cheese ON THE SIDE...! why on the side you ask...? because I LIKE TO ADD MY OWN AMOUNT PER EACH BITE...! but when i checked my bag, there wasnt any cream cheese...! it was written on that paper they use for the orders, CREAM CHEESE ON THE SIDE...! so the girl says she put in the bagel... i told her i asked for the cream cheese on the side. she looks at that paper & then looks at me like I FUCKED UP & says she'll re-do it... i told her its ok, im hungry & she turned away... did she offer an apology...? My boyfriend and I love this place. We usually come on Sundays either in the late mornings or early afternoons. He loves the Traditional and I enjoy just a plain toasted sesame seed bagel. We like being able to sit inside near the front where we can see out the windows and people watch. It's always a special day when we go and we end up having some sort of adventure afterwards. Don't ever walk in expecting a quick bagel! I walk in, it's just me for about 30 seconds neither employee behind the counter acknowledges me. Another person comes in and the guy who's sweeping behind the counter looks up sees us, says nothing and tells his coworker he's going to the bathroom. Both employees had their name tag on the side of their hats, the 2nd employee takes my order... and then helps the next person in line. He rings her up and has an issue, so I have to wait for the employee to get out of the bathroom help the guy at the register and than make my bagel. What should take like 2 min turned into a 10-15 min ordeal! The bagel is not worth it! I go into coffeebean right next door... the barista who was about to go to the back of the shop sees me, greets me and turns to help me instead of going in the back...maybe the guys from western bagel should go right next store and see what the meaning of customer service is! read more

Worst bagel shop ever. Avoid at all costs. My plain bagel tasted like cardboard, the tomato was flavorless and limp, and the cream cheese was dabbled on it like a popcorn paint job on a ceiling. The service was so horrendous that I don't know where to begin. Every single employee in this shop is awful, including the manager. How do I know this given that I've only been there twice? I have gone to Western Bagel on Ventura Blvd in Studio City,CA. For many years. I often take my grandchildren there for breakfast. It's not the best bagel but convenient. Today I took my two grandsons (10, 12) for breakfast before school. We each ordered a breakfast sandwich. Very clear with which bagel we wanted and the ingredients on each! Not very difficult for the server since she was writing it down on separate order sheets. I left my grandsons at a table and walked next door for a coffee and returned 5-6 minutes later, expecting the bagels would be almost done. When we arrived there was only one person ahead of us. When the order hadn't arrived I went to the counter to wait. It took me only a minute to realize they hadn't even begun. I asked a server what was taking so long and he didn't have an answer. Then a horribly rude man came (and said he was the manager) and said they were very busy and they couldn't rush the process. Of course that was rediculous since all of the people were after us! After another 5 or so minutes one by one our sandwiches were brought to us and ALL were totally wrong. Wrong bagel, wrong ingredients and cold! I was so mad! We didn't have time to reorder since the boys would be late for school. I actually went back to the tip jar and took my $2.00 tip out! I came here by default as the Manhattan Bagel shop in Studio City is closed until Labor Day weekend. I really wanted a pumpernickel bagel, there were two left so I bought them and took them home. After toasting and buttering I tasted one and nearly spit it out. Tasted nothing like I expected and was very dry, like cardboard.
