I was surprised with new AC units while I was out of town. The salesman, in my opinion, took advantage of my elderly parents and sold them two lower end units at top of the line prices. The workers said ductwork was fine and that they just needed to install the new units and handler. However we've had to have them come out multiple times as these two new units are not cooling down the house like our two 16 year old units did(same brand), and they have everything set to the max, so they said there is nothing more they can do. They are blaming the builder of the home. The two hottest rooms in the house don't get below 74/75, while the rest of the house is sitting at 71/72. And this is during the night. During the day the hot rooms are close to 80. We are not saving anything on electricity and the house is hotter now than before. I definitely do not recommend them. read more

Very disappointed. They responded promptly when one of our ACs went out this summer, then sold us on replacing all three of our units since we knew we'd have to replace them within 12-18 months. A few months pass and we wake up one morning to one of the thermostats being off; Western States can't come out until the next day (reasonable, despite the fact we paid for the maintenance support). They said they would have a tech call me to try to troubleshoot in the interim; didn't happen. Tech came today and turns out, they installed for natural gas when we have propane (a discussion we had with them prior to installation). Now, we are without heat for several days until they can get the parts in and come replace them. Unsatisfactory. Guess spending $30k with a company doesn't get you the basics anymore. read more

BEWARE! Western States Home Services was called to a home I was recently visiting. The homeowner was treated poorly and unfairly. They denied her warranty and on one occasion showed up at her home taking photos after she told them they were not allowed on her property. A Western States employee contacted her at the request of the owner to ask her to remove her Google review showing them in an unfavorable way and how she was treated. She was told she would be reimbursed the cost she paid a different company to do the work but to date has not heard back from Western States to do so. If a company has done nothing wrong why would they ask her to remove her Google review.. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this unprofessional company who does not honor their warranties. This company had me scheduled for a maintenance service and I waited the entire day for them. I finally called them at almost 2 pm and they said they would get back to me. Nearly 2 hours later I called them again after not hearing from them, and they tried to reschedule me for the following week. I asked to be scheduled for the next day and was told it was not possible I asked to be compensated for something for example my $40 service and was told that was not possible either. When I told them that I was going to call elsewhere, the gentleman hung up on me. I should not be calling him a gentleman. I believe his name was Steph . The next day, Steph left me a message that someone would be coming the following day. On Thursday, Michael showed up. Michael was professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Overall I was very satisfied with Michael and the service that he provided. It's unfortunate that this company had such lousy phone service. read more

Dear Western States, Please consider this correspondence notice of termination of our business with your firm. Our 5-year service contract is paid in advance until June 22d, 2023, but it is in our best interest to end our business relationship with you immediately. This also applies to our rentals at -- & ---. We expect no refund. Reason: On October 20th, 2021, your service technician visited our residence to do a semi-annual check of our air conditioning systems. In his report of that check he writes, "tech found 4 ton not operating properly and going out on high pressure, tech offered buyback or repairs and customer said they will think about it, heat pump works in cool but has issues in heat" The tech advised us that the TXV valve on the heat pump was defective and needed to be replaced. He estimated the replacement cost at $3,200 because it was a complicated job that required disassembling the entire heat pump system, plus draining and replacing the expensive coolant. Tech further advised us that as a "special deal" he could arrange a buyback of our AC unit that normally would cost $11,000 for only $8,000. This was like a pitch this same tech made two years earlier on our second 'working fine' AC system that he claimed normally cost $9,000 but if we purchased a new one within three days, he would sell it to us for only $7,000. We declined that offer when we found we could replace that older AC system for only $5,600 from several vendors. We asked your tech why the Western States technicians no longer checked the air handler equipment inside our home. He replied the air handler was fine, the TXV valve was the problem. Your tech did not advise us our A/C unit was still under warranty. On 25 Oct, a more competent, and honest, technician replaced the A/C's capacitor and the defective air handler blower motor that was still under warranty. We paid only for the service call and labor. The TXV valve had nothing to do with the problem. read more

Scheduled appointments are in 4 hour blocks, 10-2pm in my case. ..They will call 1.5 hrs before (8:30) and if you do not answer then, your appointment will be cancelled w/o notice leaving you to wait until 2pm to call for explication and you are told, "Sorry, we tried to call and you didn't answer so lets schedule next month." Western states put a new air conditioner on our house back in June. The air conditioner was great. However, during the install they put a hole in my roof, and did a half assed repair. When it rained in July my kitchen ceiling sorry to leak. I called them, And they tried to pass blame at first. Then, a week later we got a heavy rain and my ceiling in the kitchen collapsed. For three weeks now they told me they were sending a Roofer and drywaller out to fix the damages. Then this morning they change their mind and said they are not going to cover their damages. read more

One of their Tech's visited to determine the cause of an intermittent screeching noise originating from our roof top heat pump. After examining the wiring, buttoning the unit back up and returning to the ground - all in less than 20 minutes, he concludes that the Condenser motor is leaking oil and needs replacement. Our Heat Pump sounds normal during his entire visit. We tell him that we have a Warranty and he becomes confrontational, saying "you never transferred it into our name, the 5 year warranty has expired and Trane no longer offers and accepts extended warranties". Only after we produced the Trane 10 year Warranty paperwork does he relent. The Tech quotes $750 in labor just to replace the motor, checking with other contractors, including Scottsdale Air, Heating and Cooling, they are all $310+ "less". An addendum: We've used WSHS for many years, what has happened to their customer service? When we voiced a concern about their diagnosis and what seemed like excessive pricing a man identifying himself as the General Manager called and tried to manipulate the facts using unhealthy language and abruptly terminated our conversation by hanging-up (how unprofessional & immature). There are many other great AC Contractors in the valley, why subject yourself to one that's so dishonest? read more

I signed a maintenance contract last year with Larsen with 24-hour priority service. But when my unit failed today the best they could do for me was 2-days out. I found Western States at 2:45 on line, told them I knew this was a bad time to call, but could they send someone? They did some checking and dispatched JR to our place. Up and running in 15-20 minutes. I highly recommend. Very polite to deal with; very knowledgeable. I will switch contracts this fall. read more

Western States Home Services seems to have a mix of customer service philosophies. With that said they aren't the only service based company with this issue. From my experience in the service industry if you can get past the one bad employee you will uncover the good ones. I would like to thank Scott, Ken, Joe, and Tony with their assistance this past week coping with the death of our 14 yr old heating/cooling unit. Scott came in explaining the scenario with the old unit, and that replacing capacitors may or may not get the system through the summer. We knew the time was close for the unit, but like anyone else were hopeful that the unit would last through the summer. Two days later UHHH WSHS we have a problem here. The very next day Ken had the unfortunate job of describing the scenario. "We can band-aid and hope for the best," or "replace the unit." Band-aid jobs alway-always-always end up costing more in the future than doing things right the first time. Went with option b. Ken in combination with Tony was able to have the old unit replaced that same day. Awesome right!? Unfortunately the installation did not go as planned. Let's just say the wife and I ended up getting a great rate and room at JW Dessert Ridge, which due to the circumstances WSHS were willing to reimburse since it was under $100. Like I said it was a great rate. Joe was the game changer. His knowledge, honesty, transparency and desire to get the job done right was just what I needed today. Not only is the new system running correctly but he was able to negotiate the hotel to be reimbursed, and I came out of the experience being educated on what it was we had purchased. Joe also went the extra mile scheduling and describing the need for running new cable to the thermostat. Most people may read this and be discouraged to use Western States Home Services. But like I said earlier if I hadn't been persistent in the beginning I wouldn't have uncovered the true value that existed within the majority of the staff. It is also my experience in the service industry that most people are quick to judge, have astronomical and ususally un-reasonable expectations, and more importantly its too often that people report the negative experiences before elevating the positive ones. If i had written this review last night I would have been hard pressed to select even two stars. It's amazing the difference one person can make. WSHS should recognize the honest, educated, and transparent individuals they have in Scott, Ken, Joe and Tony. We bought a new Carrier HVAC unit from this outfit in July of last year. The unit and installation were fine (as far as I can tell), but it took almost 5 months and more than 20 phone calls to get them to finally send in the rebate paperwork to SRP. Also, when they scheduled the first inspection (free) two months late, The tech they sent out (Jason) did a very cursory inspection which did not include a visual inspection of the furnace or condenser. He didn't even check the inlet filter. He then spent the next 20 minutes attempting to sell us a twice a year maintenance contract; having stated more than once that Carrier would void our warranty if we couldn't show proof of twice a year maintenance visits by a professional HVAC company. I called Carrier today and they informed me that this was completely untrue. When I told him that we'd think it over, he left and returned immediately to try to talk me into a water heater flush and plumbing inspection. This will be our last contact with this company. read more

Called for annual AC check up at my house and my daughters. The service man was more interested in selling me a new AC, though the current one works fine. And he tried to sell my daughter a $2,500 vent sealing. Didn't get any type of written report on either AC. And I should I looked over his should when he went into my back yard to "service" my AC. Later I did and the inside was still dirty and it didn't look like he opened up the sides to check anything. In the past the serviceman always left it cleaner and with a check list of what he had looked at. Sorry Western States, you lost my business. read more

I have a Trane air conditioner that recently stopped working and with the rising temperatures and extra time at home, I didn't want to waste any time getting it fixed. I was so ecstatic that Steve was able to come to my house the same day I called. Our upstairs bedrooms were getting increasingly hot and my son would've had a tough time going to sleep in a hot room if we had waited any longer. Steve was incredibly nice and helpful and even explained to my kids what he was doing. I found their prices to be reasonable and the service to be excellent. I would definitely recommend Western States to anyone looking for AC services and will call them again the next time I need them! read more

On Thursday, July 30th, 2020, I woke up to a non working air conditioner. I contacted a family member who owns an air conditioning repair company. But, due to his high volume of business, he was unable to get a technician out until the next day. In a panic, I looked up air conditioning repair companies. I contacted Western States Home Services. They sent out a technician by the name of Ken. Ken checked out my ac unit. It didn't take him more than maybe 15-20 minutes. He comes to my door and tells me he's unable to fix my unit due to the fact that my compressor was grounded, the capacitor was dead, wires burnt and the fan was leaking oil. Then he tells me he can put a new unit in for a mere $6,500.00! And he could have it installed on Monday, August 3rd. And, they can finance! I'm a 66 year old woman. I have a 9 month old grandson that lives in my home. The temperature in my home was close to 100 degrees. It was the hottest day of the year! 118 degrees! I also had to pay a $89.00 service fee. I called my relative that owns an ac repair company back. I was put on schedule for the following day. They were nice enough to refer me to a company that rents portable ac units. I rented 4 ac units that cost me $530.00. The units helped to keep us comfortable until my ac could be repaired. On Friday, July 31st, as promised my relatives tech showed up. Hmm? My compressor isn't grounded! I don't need a new ac unit! The technician said he had never seen an ac unit that didn't have oil coming out of the fan! There was a small electrical piece that did need to be replaced, as it had shorted out. My ac unit is running perfect now! Western States Home Services, and their technician Ken, tried to get me to buy a whole new ac unit! Ken could have repaired it! But chose to leave here doing nothing! This company is unscrupulous! I contacted their manager this morning. She said they stand by Ken's recommendation! I was never given any options! She was rather abrupt with me. I told her I was filing a complaint with the Arizona ROC and Yelp. She invited me to do so! read more

Western States was very awful to work with. It had given my husband and I so much pain and stress, that I would like to share our experience. We had just recently purchased a house, when one month later, in the middle of Arizona June temperature, our A/C broke. We had already gotten a quote from another supplier, but called Western States to also come to our house and give us a quote for comparison. The salesman was very pushy. Even when we told him we needed to discuss in private about which supplier to go with, he said, "You're going someplace cooler to discuss? I can come with you. I'm not leaving here without a deal." This should have been a RED FLAG, but due to the very hot temperature inside and outside the house, and the feeling that we just wanted to have a cooled place, we said yes to him just so we could get our A/C faster. The salesman assured us that despite their busy summer season, they would be able to install our A/C on the next day. This was a Friday, so we thought we would get our A/C on Saturday. Saturday came, and around 10 AM, the General Manager Tony called me, and regretfully told me that the company where they got the metal parts from were closed for the weekend, so that they would not be able to install our A/C until Monday. So from Friday to Monday in the midst of the Arizona summer heat, we would not be able to have ANY A/C. But he said that he would cover a certain amount for hotel rooms, because it is just not possible to stay inside a building without cooling at this time of the year. Then Monday came around. We didn't receive any follow up call at all (despite being promised so), so we called at noon to see the progress, and the office told us that the parts company was backed up from the weekend orders, so that they would only be able to make our parts by end of the day on Monday. Came Tuesday. Again, no one called us, but this time, we intercepted the workers that were supposed to install the A/C. They were already leaving, so when I stopped them, we were hoping that they would give good news. Wow - how NAIVE we were. They told us that they had measured our A/C incorrectly so the metal parts that they had would not be able to uphold the unit. Which meant that they had to go back to the parts company with the correct measurements. This was Tuesday! FOUR DAYS WITHOUT A/C in 100+ DEGREES temperature and our fate rested on incompetent workers who could not do their jobs correctly. Finally on Wednesday, they installed our A/C in the morning, but did not communicate to us that we had to be home for this. So we had to wait some time for them to come back and activate the thermometer. Unfortunately, that's not the end of it... Remember the refund that the manager Tony promised us? It took him over ONE MONTH to "process" it and lots of phone calls to remind him (he only returned our phone calls when he felt like it and did not actually do what he said he would) because he didn't seem to care about his customers as soon as they signed the deal. Oh, and despite the contract that the we and the salesman signed, later on Western States charged us another $100 for crane services, even when the contract clearly stated that this would not be charged. Moreover, when we gave him the exact itemized amount that he needed to refund us along with a scan of the contract and hotel invoices, he still shorted us the full amount. Now, 3 months later, he still has NOT returned the full amount that he owes us. In conclusion, SAVE YOURSELVES the stress and heartache from dealing with a company who only cares about getting your money but not about your well-being as a customer. read more

They will show up and offer very low rates for a "tune-up." But once they get your phone number, they will hound you. If you are ready for over 100 calls per year, go ahead and take advantage of their low rates. If not, look elsewhere. Personally, I'd rather not deal with a company that abuses my time and phone line in this manner. Yikes. They've called me 4 times in the last half hour! Twice they hung up without speaking to me. We have chosen to terminate our three contracts for AC/heating maintenance on our three properties in Mesa. Every time we call the Chandler office, none of the service representatives say that they are unable to assist us, but only Tony can handle that request. When we have finally gotten ahold of Tony, he refuses to deal with us and will not prorate our three unexpired contracts and issue a refund of over $800.00.. We are now considering taking Tony and Western States Home Services to small claims court. read more

Came home on a 115 degree day and my ac unit was out. A friend referred me and I got a call from.thr general manager Tony saying he was going let me know how long it would be before soomeone could come out. In less than an hour Mike was here and looking at my AC. A cap to run the compressor was broken so Mike was able to easily replace it and had cool air coming out within 10 minutes. Giving them the benefit of my extreme doubts we set up another appointment to come out and look at my system. I was told by someone saying they were the manager of the facility that he personally would show up at anytime necessary and convenient for my home sitter. The time was set for 8:00 AM in the morning. Guess what?? I had to call at 8:45 to see where they were. I was told he was still 15 miles out so I told him to turn around and go back. END OF STORY!!! I don't usually leave reviews but I felt that I had to this time. This company was quick to replace our air conditioning unit but unreliable when it comes to maintenance and appointments. We have three units, one was replaced and the other two were serviced on the same day the unit was replaced. Every year I like my a/c units to get serviced so I scheduled an appointment. A tech came out but could only service one unit for health issues, which I was completely ok with. The other two were much higher and required a longer ladder. Tech called main office to get me rescheduled for the other two units. Received a call the day of appointment in order to reschedule once again because no tech was available in my area. I then scheduled another appointment. On appointment day, I was called once again to reschedule because the tech didn't have a ladder long enough to service my two units. Let it be known that they had previously serviced those units the year before and before scheduling my appointments I made them aware that a very long ladder was required for the units. I understand to reschedule once but three times is unacceptable especially since I had to take time off of work. They weren't sympathetic and to be honest I thought they didn't care. All they told me was they were going to make manager aware. Hopefully I don't have issues with the unit they installed because I rather not deal with this company again. read more

We were told that there would be an APS rebate for our new AC unit installed by Western States. I did my own research and found the forms needed to get the rebate since we didn't receive anything from Western States, but the company was supposed to fill these forms out. Western States told me we wouldn't be eligible for the rebate since we upgraded to a 4 ton unit. When I contacted APS they said that wasn't true. Western States did send someone out to fill out the paperwork and said they wouldn't charge us for that...but if it was done in the first place, they wouldn't have had to make the second trip. Now that we have turned our new heater on, we have a high pitched noise coming from one of the rooms. They said they would send someone out to take a look. Instead of sending someone, they called us on the scheduled day and said they weren't coming out. They said the high pitched noise was due the fact that we have 3 ton duct work for a 4 ton unit. But they replaced the duct work too when they replaced the unit. So they diagnose a problem over the phone?? I must be missing something. Western States was great during the install, but the customer service after has been well below par since the install was done. There is a 10 year 'worry free maintenance' warranty on our install and we are only 5 months in. I hate to think of what frustrations I may encounter if a serious problem arises. read more

I am using my personal vacation time for this appt. & now need to re-schedule. I call to find out what's going on & I don't get an apology or anything. Had these guys come out to evaluate my two AC units. One old one new. The guy looked out the outside units. He said I needed $1,600 worth of repairs on the outside units and wanted to fix that before he examined the inside parts. Seemed quite put out when I said I wanted to know the whole deal before comitting to anything. Then he looked at the inside units. A lot of sales pressue, special deal " today only kind of stuff. Anyway had some other folks come out today who said the old unit was old but ok and the new unit was fine. Have bought several different air-conditioners from these guys for rental units, swamp coolers for my house. Bought a service package from them even though I have a home warranty on my house. They really stay on top of things and above all, they are honest. The owners name is Randy and I admire someone who shoots straight. I have done business with them for years, and they don't come in to fix one thing then try to upsell you on something else. I just really admire the way they do business. This is a very DISHONEST company with HORRIBLE customer service. Basically they had tried to give me the wrong, cheaper and lower model Carrier AC unit initially for a higher price and only after I disputed the transaction with my credit card company did they finally agreed to install the right unit (per our contract) but very hastily and never did a final walk through or showed us how to maintain the system or clean the filter. Fast forwarded 7 months later when I tried to use the AC again, it was blowing out hot air and I wonder if they even installed it properly in the beginning. When they came to diagnose the problem they blamed us saying that the compressor blew because we never clean the filter and made us pay $1280 for an extended labor warranty before they would install another compressor for us, even though we are still under warranty, and also took our old compressor "because it's the company's policy". I reluctantly agreed but I said ONLY if it's with Carrier like what the technician Mike had promised, because I don't want to deal with this type of FRAUDULENT company any longer, especially not for 10 years. Because I didn't trust them, I then called Carrier after the installation to confirm my extended labor warranty with them but as expected Carrier said that they have no record of labor warranty and that WSHS is not even their distributor. LIES AFTER LIES, all they want is QUICK MONEY. I'm surprise they are still in business with their horrible service and exaggerated price without any accountability. I'm planning to take them to court and explain everything to the judge. I've also called my credit card company and disputed the transaction. Please do your research and check their reviews especially the BAD REVIEWS because you may avoid being in my situation causing unnecessary stress and headache. UPDATE: Exactly one month after the new compressor installation, hot air is blowing again. I've given up on this ongoing NIGHTMARE and called another local AC company who came by today (6/20/18) and diagnosed a leakage in the system. I have to pay more money to pump new refrigerant. If after reading this review and you still decide to go with them, then GOOD LUCK because you'll need it. read more

We have been customers of Western States Home Services for at least five years, possibly longer and I'm very happy that our service from them over the years has been professional, fair priced, and great work from a mixture of service people. They helped us at our first AZ home by working with us in extending the life of two older air conditioners, which remained in great working order over several years with service contracts and skilled repair-people. About two years ago we downsized to a smaller, older home, and were faced with replacing two units that were on their last legs. WSHS installed two energy efficient ACs and they have worked perfectly until yesterday evening. The main ac quit cooling and we called WSHS, wanting it fixed last night, but there were many people in line before us and the office couldn't send anyone out until today. Today Ken was at our home before noon, replaced a part that had failed (under warranty), and had everything cool again in record time. Great job! We know there's not a company in the world that can please everyone all of the time, but our experience with WSHS has been positive and that from our first contact with them (5 or 6 years ago), we have felt like valuable customers because they have treated us as such. read more

They have over 260 five star reviews with other sites (review buzz) and not sure why they are only 2.5 stars with yelp? They are A+ with the bbb and I hear nothing but good from this company!
