This is our first time trying Wok On Fire, and was it GOOD, I had Kung Pao chicken, it was very tasty, nice and spicy, very good, we also had tempura shrimp and veggies, again, very good, and the sauce was yummy, we also got fried rice with shrimp, awesome, it was not greasy, had lots of shrimp, and was enough to feed 4 hardy eaters, as was both entrees. We also had BBQ appetizer ribs, you get 4 large ribs, again sauce was very tasty. Also got WonTon soup, loaded with goodies, enough for 2 1/2 people.... I just recommended the duck from this place in one of the Talk threads and mentioned the wrong restaurant. Then I discovered that I had never reviewed the right one, so here I go: I order from here almost once a week. The delivery is always pretty fast, about 25 mins on average. And in addition to getting great food I get a kick of how terrified the delivery guy gets when my dog goes sniffing at the door. I always wanna say, dude, she's not gonna eat you, you have the power, which is my dinner. Me & the bf always get the fabulous Peking duck and Red Dragon rolls (Cali rolls with tuna), I'll usually throw in a miso soup, and sometimes I'll get the ginormous portion of vegetable lo mein. But this last time we ordered spicy beef and broccoli and it was the best beef and broccoli that I had ever recalled ordering in my life, nice and spicy. Decided to try this out (close to my work) for lunch. Skimmed through the menu / reviews and decided to try the Ma Po Tofu. Arrived at the restaurant, and noticed 7 chefs cooking away, look to the left, four tables with a handful of diners. (yes, four tables total). I decided to still go ahead and order. $8.97 total for one order of ma po tofu and steamed rice (Extra). Service was quick, about 10 minutes total wait time. This is where it went downhill, this is not ma po tofu. Its a teriyaki sauce boiled tofu dish trying to pass off as ma po tofu. As any sichuan eater will attest, ma po tofu is a red peppery saucy dish with tofu and (sometimes) meat. This watered down puddle of blub was the worst thing I have eaten in a while. (see Pictures). Every time I move into a new place (which seems to happen every couple years) I try all the local chinese food joints to find my new favorite. I think I just found it at Wok On Fire! My girlfriend and I loaded up with several entrees the other night, and I liked it so much I went back for lunch today. The cashew chicken ($7.95) was great, and the orange chicken ($9.95) was even better... not all deep-fried batter and no chicken like most places- this orange chicken is somewhere between sauteed and fried (if that makes any sense) and so tasty. The beef and broccoli ($7.95) was amazing - the beef was not overcooked and so tender it just melts in your mouth. We asked them for some sauteed asparagus (not on the menu) and although it was very good, I'm not sure it was worth the $7 they charged us. The egg rolls were on the smallish side, but adequate. I also really like the way they package the food for delivery/takeout. Entrees come in tupperware-like plastic tubs with durable snap-on lids, making it easy to save leftovers. And the white-chocolate dipped fortune cookies are a nice touch. The place seems to be set up almost exclusively for delivery/take out, although there are a few small tables inside. I noticed they have 3 or 4 phone "stations" going at once to handle all their delivery orders. When we first walked in, I was encouraged by the number of Chinese customers hanging out in the dining area... but soon realized they were actually delivery drivers or other employees. A couple potential concerns.......... The place has a "C" rating hanging in the window, so I doubt we'll be ordering their sushi anytime soon. We'll stick to the fully-cooked items until they get an A or B. They charge extra for rice - it's not included. Also, I overheard one of their managers on the phone taking a complaint from a customer whose delivery order was incorrect. And I heard from someone else that their delivery drivers always seem to get lost. I can't speak for their delivery service since we picked up both times, but I notice that they charge an extra $2 for deliveries. I reviewed this place years ago after coming with my friend. I enjoyed it then, but now that I work around here I've been here more often. This place is really not that great. I only come here because of their lunch specials. Their specials come with a side salad and an egg roll. On my last visit I ordered the chicken with mushrooms and snow peas. It was disgusting! I opened my container and saw my chicken and it was completely raw. I tried a few bites and could not finish it. I really hope I don't get sick. Probably won't be coming Back here. read more
