I'm a little fuzzy when writing this because I had so much to drink that night. We waited for Happy Hour and thought we were only going to stay an hour. Well, it was longer than an hour because I think we were one of the last ones there and we had a lot of drinks. Thankfully, they were within the Happy Hour time frame. Our waiter was awesome and I want to say his name was Justin or Jason. My memory keeps drawing me to the main character from Karate Kid, Ralph Macchio. It was definitely not Ralph Macchio, but the dude was hilarious. He had a great sense of humor and it's what kept us there the whole night. My buddy ordered about 4 of the appetizers and didn't like any of them. The waiter was extremely helpful and the food came out relatively quickly despite the amount of people in the place. I honestly can't remember what I ordered, but I think I liked it. While they weren't huge portions, I think they were good portions. My wife and I split two dishes on their happy hour menu. One may have been the buffalo wings. I do remember ordering gin cocktails, that were really good. They were strong and were the direct result of my time travel that night. I can't speak about the menu because I just don't remember it and I don't even know how to get back to this place, but it's a pretty popular spot at night. After a hard week's work, a friend and I decided on here. It was around 7pm on a Friday, so it was busy. They told us that wait was about an hour, but it was actually closer to 45 minutes. When we were seated the waiter described to us in detail the day's specials. I ended up just getting an onion ring tower and spicy tuna roll with a Ballast Point Black Marlin Porter pint to start. The beer came quickly after. I'd recommend the beer if you like Guiness or dark beers in general. Food came when I was halfway though my beer. I liked the presentation of both dishes. One of the reasons why I got the onion ring tower was that it looked good in the pictures on Yelp. But they did taste very good. Not oily and they were crispy. Probably the best onion rings I had, but then again I've only had the ones at fast foot places and sports bars. My friend commented how the batter was uniform and didn't have air bubbles. The spicy ahi roll was different but alright. I should've read the description since there was no rice in it and instead had edamame. It was filling though. Ahi was fresh, but about average in comparison to how I like mines prepared at other places. Service was excellent as our water was constantly refilled and I was asked for more beer before my pint was empty. Also that night I had a pint of Black Velvet (Wyder's Pear Cider & Guinness Stout) and Maui Brewing Company's Coconut Porter. First time I had the Black Velvet. The cider made it sweet, but it was a good mix with the Guiness. Beer selection is great, but the edge goes to Bar 35 in Chinatown. Environmental is busy but very enjoyable and service is so AWESOME from the host up front to the waitress, bartenders and even the bus boys! I always feel very comfortable going there. Everytime I go, I find something new in the menu I haven't tried before, which becomes my new favorite. I found that all the food is totally delicious, all the drinks are perfect, and the bartenders are super intelligent if asked about beers. Thank goodness! My go-to beer is a Wanderlust IPA and my new addiction is ahi nachos. Big chunks of ahi & avocado with seaweed flakes & some kind of heavenly sauce. Drooling. Okay, so this might sound ridiculous but my husband & I came here 5 nights in a row for dinner. The first 3 nights were simply because we ate with friends one night and decided to come back the next 2 nights just the 2 of us. The servers we had each time were simply amazing. Particularly one night where we had a new server who had moved here from LA a few months ago, he served us well and we had pretty great conversation with him. The food there is really good and priced well. The menu can seem overwhelming the first time you go but honestly it's nice when you go multiple times and you're not ordering the same thing over and over. The next 2 nights we came it was takeout only and the the manager (I'm assuming that's who he is) was simply the nicest person. We couldn't find anywhere else to go that was open (because of the COVID-19 mandate for takeout only) so we decided to rush back. We didn't realize the kitchen was closing at 9 because of the mandate and even though it was literally 2min before closing he gave us a menu to look at and decide what we wanted while he put signs and everything away. Food we had over our several trips there (that I can remember from memory): - Lettuce wraps: husband thought they were alright - Buffalo cauliflower: first time ever having these and they were really good, husband loved them too - Beyond burger: husband and a friend had this, they both loved it. Said it doesn't taste like a veggie patty at all. (It's a pretty massive burger) - Carne asada Taco: honestly only finished it so that I didn't waste food but I thought it was pretty mediocre - Grilled chicken avocado sandwich: super messy and not really worth it. Got it as takeout and I was disappointed. It looked really good but there was so much avocado that I could barely taste the chicken. - Abuela's chicken: husband ordered this and devoured it. - Peach cobbler soufflé thing with ice cream: we didn't order this so I don't know the name but our server gave it to us when we were all talking and he asked if we were married (we just got married the week before). This desert was sooo good. It was nice and warm, the dough/breading parts of it were chewy and crunch at the same time. & The ice cream they use is such a nice complement. - Chips and guac: Chips are alright, they weren't warm or anything, they probably come out of a bag. But the guac was actually pretty good, I was surprised. If you like your guac on the chunky side then you'll definitely enjoy it, wasn't entirely smooth which I love. - Traditional Buffalo wings: loved the flavor of these, but seemed as though they weren't very saucy. Might've been because it was takeout. - Carnivore pizza: husband loved (& devoured) it, I had a slice and was honestly surprised it was so good - Tomato bisque: shocked at how good this was (only item I had twice), it was warm, thick, and flavorful. Had some tomato bits in it which made the texture even better. - Kids grilled cheese: (got it to go with the tomato bisque), honestly this was alright. The first one I got was better. But regardless, both times there was barely cheese. It felt like 2 slices of craft cheese stuck in between some bread. BUT to make up for the underwhelming grilled cheese, the fries you get as a side (if that's what you choose) are really good. read more

So this homecoming was thirty years in the making.... As a kid I lived on base at Hickam - dad was in the Air Force and we stationed here after three years in Japan (Tachikawa AB). Between Japan and Hawai'i I feel entirely blessed to have had such a beautiful childhood on these two remarkable islands. Last August in 2009 I went back for the first time. You really can go home - Honolulu, Waikiki, Bellows Beach, Ala Moana Mall, Pearl Ridge, Old Pali Hwy Lookout - everything was there as it was in my memories, with possibly some added public access or whatnot but the Aloha of Oahu sunk in fast and I felt relaxed and happy. I ate like a madman and drank many yards of beer but somehow still lost four pounds on vacation! Chalk it up to all the walking and snorkeling. Okay, so Yard House on Lewers. Well the hotel was just up the road, towards the canal, so it wasn't much trouble wandering down and coming across this place. There's lots of competition around there - PF Changs as well as local places - but something about having that many different beers on tap in one place was mesmerizing, haha. Had a chocolate stout which was out of this world, amazingly tasty. Garlic fries next, with a lighter beer, and I was on top of the world. Went for a walk to the beach and the Fort across the street. Next time in, sat at a different spot and ended up near a table full of girls there in Honolulu for some sort of pageant; no complaints from me about that! People-watching at its finest. Had the onion rings which were just a bit too much for one person, at least my waistline couldn't fit it all in if you know what I'm sayin'. The beer was excellent, again - so much to choose from. Had some soup too and that was delicious. The place was very clean, uncrowded in the afternoons that I went, sun coming in and feeling like I'm in paradise because I do indeed love Oahu with all my heart. I completely ignored the TVs because I'm no sports fan at all, but I didn't get that "sports bar" feel because at least they didn't have tons of crap all over the walls and the space is large enough that the TVs themselves don't take center stage. That huge bar, and the room on the side where the beer is kept, now that was impressive - something about all that brass and wood everywhere that brings out the Steampunk fan in me. It's quite popular so we decided to order online for take out. Arrived early to check out the scenery. The hostesses were very friendly and helpful. When my order was ready I received a phone call on my cell phone. Picked up the order and then walked the 2 miles back to my hotel. I ordered 1 Caesar salad, 1 chicken fingers with fries, 1 shrimp Cobb and 1 grilled chicken Cobb. I split the Caesar and the chicken/fries fir my boys'' dinner. They thoroughly enjoyed their dinner. Unfortunately, the salad dressings for our Cobbs were missing. As such, we used the chicken fingers dipping sauces as our dressing. It wasn't yummy. However, I am sure that if the salad dressings were included, we would have enjoyed our dinner. Taking off 2 stars as leaving the salad dressings from our take out is an epic fail in my opinion. read more

That's why we always come back. Their late night happy hour is great and reasonably priced. We usually get beer there but last night we tried all the martinis and the watermelon margarita and guava margarita. They all were delicious. Great food. Friendly attentive staff. I went to Waikiki for 7 days, eat there twice. Food is very good (for that price range), and beer and atmosphere is very good. Somehow I don't need to wait for too long for lunch time, I guess, it is the week that the economy downturn (stock drop a lot, sep,29,08) Basically, for comfortable seating in Waikiki, it is really hard to find restaurants with that price range and good service and good food. We went on Saturday and it was pretty crowded but we managed to find a quick spot at the bar and had a couple of beers. Now just to preface that I'm use to dirt cheap drinks and I know about the inflated Waikiki tourist prices but for $6.50, I was a little upset that the beer was pretty flat. Solid place to grab lunch or dinner. The menu varies widely so you should find something you'll like. We had the mushroom lettuce wraps as an appetizer, which was tasty and came with three different dipping sauces. I had the avocado chicken sandwich, which was pretty standard. My wife had the grilled cheese with avocado, and this was really good. The bread was thick and crunchy, which makes for a great grilled cheese. Sandwiches come with shoestring fries, but you can also get sweet potato fries. The sandwiches/burgers were about $13-$16. Beer selection is gigantic (especially for draft beers), so that is a bonus. They had a big variety of Hawaiian beers so I stuck to those. They do have a bunch of HDTVs for sports and they'll gladly switch to the game you want. Unfortunately, they play music so you won't get volume. If you're committed to watching the game, go to the real sports bar (Giovanni Pastrami) across the street. read more

Yard House has been my choice for a varity of beer since I first went back in San Deigo. Back then I used to just take a dime flip it on the back page and have whatever beer it landed on. Now a days i ask the bartender what is their fav and try that. This time i had the Grimbergen Double, it was a nice semi-thick beer with a kind of hazle-nutty taste. I was told that Yard House Waikiki is the only place on Oahu that has that certain beer. I would say it is worth trying! Next came the food. I chose from the house favortites: (MAC + CHEESE)2 Price: $18.95 chicken breast, applewood smoked bacon, wild mushrooms, cheddar and parmesan with campanelle pasta and white truffle oil It was simply amazing!!! For my drink on the side, 2nd beer, i chose the Maui Brewing Bikini Blonde. This is a Pale Ale brewed in Maui. It too was a nice crisp beer. If your ever in Maui it is one of the ones you should try! I've never seen so many beers in one place in my life! And what a surprise to see an old friend working behind the bar! Came out with my sister, her husband, my other brother in law, and some friends. We put our name in for a table for 8 people as we were expecting others to join us. There was an hour wait! So good thing we already ate. We headed on over to the bar where you can see a ton of beers on tap - not sure how many are all around the bar. So of course we got a drink menu. It was a little overwhelming to say the least. I did end up opting for a mixed drink - Beachwalk - as it was the first one listed. Eventually our pager went off and they seated us. There was a little mix-up in seating because there was another party of 8 they called at the same time...but they got a table and we got a booth. (we like booths better) Once we sat down, we ordered some appetizer type items, good things to eat at a bar - fries, wings, onion tower, someone ordered a burger...coming from dinner I picked at things - all of which were super tasty. We even ended up getting their seasonal smore's dessert. yum...I've been on this toasted marshmallow phase so it just sounded fabulous. and it was. The atmosphere here is lively, the service was a little behind because it was so busy, but our server did quite a good job coming around. Actually we ended up with 2 servers. It did take several askings to get our water refills but when it came to the food service, everything was brought out right away and hot! We had great service which is always a big factor. We started with the deviled eggs which are a new feature for yard house. They were well made, but the tomato sauce on top over powers it and changes the texture, so I would skip that. The guac dip was excellent and totally not enough, big win! The truffle fries had a little too much "truffle oil" on them, but soggy. The sandwich I had was decent, but nothing amazing. It is chain style food done well, they were fairly tapped on all of their dark beer selection thanks to St. Patty's Day the night before, but that's to be expected. Bartender kept checking up me every now and then to make I sure was OK with drinks. I was surprised they had an hour wait for a table at 7pm. I guess it is due to its location in Waikiki close to all the hotels. Only thing I wish they would offer would be the ability to create your flight set. They offer a preselected flight set. They offered a Belgium and an IPA set. Since it is the Hawaii location and Hawaii has several breweries on the island, it would be real cool to offer a Hawaiian flight set. Beer pub Hawaiian style. This was a nice stop on Lewers Street just a few blocks off the ocean. The location is in the middle of about eight different hotels in Waikiki so it is an easy walk. If you don't mind the driving in Waikiki...which is supposed to have the second worst traffic experience in the States...getting to this area is still worth the trip. One block farther away starts the she-she shopping area...and here on Lewers are a number of nice restaurants. For Yard House...great selection of beers...they had to have 50 taps at the longish bar. Don't be fooled by the small entrance from the outside...inside the dining room is huge and built on two levels. Full service bar but this is really a beer palace. We tried the Kona Fire Rock beer (very good...had two) and the Brazilian Lemonade (just ok). Food wise it is just what you'd expect for pub grub...just a few more fish dishes since it is Hawaii. We had the classic slider sandwiches (nice offering...three sliders with a nice amount of tender beef)...the summer-salad (just ok with a plain mixture of greens)...the opah (a very nice fish plate that was done perfectly with a little stir fry veggies included)...and two small plate tacos - asada and swordfish (the tacos weren't the hit of the meal...the asada was ok but the meat pieces weren't sliced to fit in the taco and the swordfish had a yucky mayonnaise-based coating on it). Wow I usually avoid chains, but this place does not disappoint. A side from great service, they do late night food well In a city where it is lacking. You would think Waikiki on a Saturday night. You could find quality grub would be easily had, Not Really . But the yard house is your oasis for late night eats and drinks. Amazing happy hour, this chain does Asian well for an American chain. Yard House has been my go to whenever I spend time in Waikiki. I staycation quite a few times a year so I find myself coming here every so often. It's always busy, but I don't think I've ever had to wait long for a table (which is always a plus)! Their onion ring tower is a must!! I know, it's just onion rings, how can you go wrong, but you can and fortunately, Yard House has not. I recently had their seared ahi steak sandwich and I was in love. Everything about it (except the price, lol) was soooo perfect. This will definitely be number one on my list. Their poke nachos are also good, definitely worth a try. It's an appetizer but it's enough to be a main course. It does get loud due to the many sports they play on their many tv's all around the restaurant. But not loud enough that you can't hear your friends while you eat. Some plates are a little overpriced but some are definitely worth the price. read more
