Decided to give this Taiwanese cafe a second try and I had a better experience than my Doordash order. It's located inside a busy shopping plaza so parking can be difficult, especially on the weekends. It's open daily 7am-7pm Service was average since this is one of those " pay at the counter for the food and take a seat" kind of place. However, it would have been nice if the cashier told us to grab our soy milk from the fridge or at least handed it to us after we ordered it. We were waiting 15+ minutes for the items only to go up to the counter and realize that we were supposed to get it ourselves but we're never told to do so. It's quite small inside but there is a decent amount of seating Pricing is resonable and nearly everything is under $15! The Curry Pastry ($2.60) was pretty good. It would've been better if it was more crispy but the filling was very delicious and had plenty of curry and beef! The Sweet Soybean Pudding ($4.50 - large) was delicious! Be sure to let them know to put the syrup on the side otherwise they combine it for you! The tofu was very soft, silky, and fresh. I was very relieved that the syrup wasn't too sweet since they combined it inside. The Soymilk ($4.25 - large) was very sweet and didn't have much of a soybean taste. It would have been better if it wasn't so sweet so I could taste more of the soybean. NOTE: they offer salty soymilk and soybean pudding but it's +$0.25 more than the sweet Soymilk and soybean pudding! The Peanut Milk ($4.25) was pretty good. It was very creamy and nutty! If you like peanut butter, then this is a must! It wasn't too sweet and it was very refreshing. Overall, I liked the soybean pudding more than the Soymilk and the prices were reasonable so I most likely will recommend and return!
If you're craving Taiwanese breakfast, come here! Love the purple rice burrito with pork floss and Chinese donut - can share among 2ppl. I also highly recommend getting the soy milk and daikon radish cake.
Ive had my eye on this place for a couple of years and I finally decided to stop by. I came here for the mochi and on a Saturday afternoon they didn't have any available. They also closed around 2pm this particular Saturday and that didn't coincide with the store hours. We did try the veg rice roll, curry pastry, egg omelette, mushroom/pork bun, and green onion pancake. There's a self serve sauce bar with chili oil, vinegar, etc. the food is authentic but nothing to write home about. I would like to return and try the mochi sometime
I went on a Saturday afternoon and there were a good amount of people in the restaurant but it wasn't too packed. You can order either on the kiosk or at the register before seating yourself. They bring the food to you and you can grab sauces and water at a station in the corner We shared 4 dishes between 4 people and were all pretty full by the end of it. Overall thought the prices were super reasonable too Daikon cake: 5/5 my first time trying this dish and it was much crispier than I expected which was a nice surprise Egg omelette: 3/5 nothing wrong with it just not my favorite Juicy pork dumplings: 4/5 solid flavor Salty rice roll with spicy pickles: 4/5 you can choose between white or purple rice for this dish. It was also my first time trying thing and I thought it was pretty good
If you're a fan of Huge Tree in MPK give this place a try. Its geared for Togo orders but has many tables to sit down and enjoy your food. It's the perfect brunch spot because you want to order several items and you'll take care of two meals in one! I get: salty soy milk, juicy pork dumplings, purple rice roll with pork floss and beef tendon soup. I've never traveled to Taiwan before so this restaurant is my way of traveling through food. It's not greasy, light despise all the food I ordered and there's enough to share and take home too. Parking is shared with Asian market and other restaurants so depending on the time you might have to park on the other side of the lot.
The play was easy to find in a small little shopping area with different places to eat... I was set on what I wanted because I saw it on tiktok and told my sons I wanted to try it out. I was disappointed when we first got there because it was only 3 o'clock and they said that they were already out of the purple sticky rice for the item.I wanted to buy... They said they had it in white rice, so I thought, well, since we're already here, let's try it. The girl on TikTok said she wished she would've added an egg, but because we had a language barrier. I couldn't explain to her.I wanted a Fried egg,( I wanted it Wet) she gave me a hard boiled egg and it was an extra $2.50... I was pretty disappointed in this Salted white rice roll. Everything seemed old and soggy it was wrapped in plastic wrap, wasn't hot...and it was supposed to have a Chinese fried donut inside with a very crisp bite to it. It wasn't...it was soggy and flat...very chewy...And also The rice on the outside was not crispy/crunchy at all... Nothing really tasted fresh.... And that soy milk drink, everyone has their own preferences and tastes, but I did not like that soy drink at all... It tasted like wet hay/grass... And it was $4.95... she did ask me if I wanted it hot or cold....So I guess they serve a hot version, My son Bobby said that he liked the taste of it, but I noticed after the first couple of sips, he didn't drink anymore, I asked him did ne want it,he didn't...so i ended up throwing it away.... I also bought an order of the soup dumpling, And I was very disappointed in that because the dough that was around it was too thin, and when you picked it up it ripped, so you didn't get a soup dumpling. You just got a small piece of meat inside the dough. Because all of the juice dumped out when it ripped. Not a single one of them was lifted out onto the spoon, and the meat inside was a very small piece.I should've taken a picture of it , but I was just done with it... for $25.00 +tip I WONT BE BACK. I think i'm going to try the,'Yi Mei" in Monterey Park... I heard there's also one in San Gabriel. I hope I could find purple rice roll and all of its crispiness like that girl in the video , because this place was nothing like that!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND. ALSO I TOOK PICTURES ... of the little cakes and snacks that they had for sale on a counter. We didn't buy or try any of them.FYI
It's in the parking lot at duarte, 6th Street intersection. The purple rice rolls with pickled green is very good. The pork belly sandwich was really good too I've been craving for beef tendon soup and was disappointed. There are only a few pieces of tendon and no carbs. Doesn't come with noodles. Pay with cash to avoid Card transaction fees.
Thank you for bringing me back to the country I love so much, Taiwan. Ordering "SALTY RICE ROLL" and "HOT SOYBEAN MILK" brought me right back to Taiwan. SALTY RICE ROLL: Paid extra for the purple rice. Rice is thoroughly well cooked. Fried donut isn't as crispy as I'd like but the temperature is authentic. Pork sung and pickles are authentic. Only complaint is the pickle isn't placed evenly throughout the roll. HOT SOYBEAN MILK: You can definitely taste the soybeans. Not dilute. Served with no sugar as similarly served in Taiwan. Sauces such as chili sauce look all stored bought. SERVICE: Immediately spoke to me in Mandarin throughout the entire process (hehehe). I politely asked if the fantuan can be cut in half and they were accommodating. Self service kiosk immediately to the left of the entrance door when you walk in (or if you keep walking and turn around, it is on your right). No service fee, convenience fee, etc. Easy to use. Water provided, condiments provided, etc near the kitchen. AMBIENCE: No customers was present when I went. Causal and quick bites. Simple and clean decor. Lots of pickup / delivery orders. Located in an Asian plaza with the Good Fortune Supermarket. Lots of eateries, services, etc. Large private parking lot. Would I come back? Most definitely. I love Taiwanese breakfast. It's how I grew up and thus nothing can't beat bringing me back to my parent's motherland.
Got fan tuan with purple rice (+$1). This was a decently sized fan tuan and quite hefty as there was plenty of rice surrounding the filling. The pork floss was tasty and the you tiao wasn't soggy or oily, but could've been just a little crispier. The base order doesn't come with egg (extra $2) or veggies, which is a bummer. Solid option though. Next time I'd probably swap purple rice for white and get egg to add some extra protein. Note to self: $10 minimum for card
The Taiwanese breakfast offerings here are pretty tasty. I enjoyed the purple rice fantuan, which had fried dough stick, pork floss, and pickled vegetable. Not the best fantuan in the area but pretty solid if you add their garlic sauce and chili oil. The daikon cakes were crispy and tasty. The egg omelette was pretty underwhelming tho and the soup dumplings were all deflated and had no soup whatsoever
great place to get your taiwanese breakfast fix. They close early since it's technically breakfast foods. They also have assortment of frozen items dumplings, xlb, etc. Decent value fresh and good taste. Pricing for Taiwanese breakfast I notice being on the rise and it's no exception here. Material increase and labor increase are the culprit. The rice ball here their chinese donut inside is crispy, every place makes different way. depend on your preference. additionally they have online order, call in order, in person ordering of course. and pay cash get slight discount on your order. They can get busy at times so be patient. parking lot is busy most times and the spaces are narrow and poorly designed. The market next door opened again for the 3rd time under different name and owner so parking lot is busy again. Anyway., it's classic asian shopping center parking situation, not enough spaces and too narrow for real cars and high chance to get fender bender and road rage in parking lot, so watch out ! be patient and have grace. especially with elderly drivers in the parking lot, they mean well they are old, sometimes very gruffy but they're old, give them a break!
The Cashier was very sweet and nice to me and everyone else. The Rice roll was also just as good as it looks.
Review #903 2025-#077 Food Order: Beef Roll (牛肉卷餅) $9.00 Sweet Rice Roll (甜飯糰) $5.35 Flatbread & Chinese Donut (燒餅油條) $5.75 Salty Rice Roll (鹹飯糰) $5.75 Soy Milk (豆浆) $4.25 I was going through a phase for Taiwanese breakfast during lockdown & had strong cravings for rice rolls (飯糰). They're essentially rice burritos make from glutinous rice wrapped around fillings: Chinese donut (油條) & dried pork floss (肉鬆), with some variations of pickles & veggies. I found Yi Mei in Monrovia, just a couple of miles from my brother's & asked if he wanted to have brunch with his nephew. The restaurant is located in a plaza anchored by Good Fortune Supermarket off Duarte Rd. & 5th Ave.; while the plaza offers a moderate amount of parking spaces, I had to circle the lot to find a spot just before lunch rush. The dining space is a tad cramped with a couple dozen seats of 2 or 4 tops, though you can probably join the tables for a larger party. It's quite hot in July & there's no a/c, so it may be an unpleasant meal due to the sweltering heat. There's a unisex restroom on the right in the back so you may miss it with the large refrigerators blocking your view. I looked at their menu so I knew what I wanted, but had a couple of questions about a couple of items. The cashier is abrupt, not rude, but it feels like he's tapping his feet so you feel a need to hurry up & place your order. I ordered the basics: Beef Roll, Sweet & Salty Rice Rolls, Flatbread & Chinese Donut to see if they're any good. Considering the amount of foot & phone traffic, my order was ready fairly quick. Both rice rolls were tasty, but the Chinese donut was not as crisp & fluffy as I would like so it was a bit stiff & too chewy (not in a good way). The glutinous rice wrapper:filling ratio wasn't very balanced, I felt there was too much rice & it was a tad dry that I needed to flush it down every couple of bites. The beef rolls were also tasty, but the pancake:filling ratio was also off. The roll is wrapped in a thin, chewy pancake, stuffed with aromatic but skimpy beef slivers that's sweet & savory, offset by refreshing crunch of peppery cilantro. The flatbread & Chinese donut was executed best... the flatbread was flaky, with a crisp crust & soft, chewy interior; the Chinese donut was the same, with a crisp exterior & fluffy interior. Normally, I like dipping it in congee but it would have been too much for the 3 of us. We brought our water bottles so I didn't order any drinks, but we guzzled our waters & M was still thirsty so I added a large soy milk. The soy milk was sweetened just barely enough; it was mild & creamy with a beany, earthy taste. And the perfect thirst quencher on this hot summer day! I like their menu but the execution could be better. Service is not exactly friendly, but they are fast. The menu is diverse with enough variety at competitive price points. I miss the good ol' days when a satisfying breakfast costs about $10/person. Yi Mei is a solid Taiwanese breakfast place, just a bit far to purposely dine here, but worth repeat visits if I'm in the area.

I can't believe how busy this place was at 1015am!! I don't think I've ever eaten chinese food that early, but that means this place must be good. We were passing by Arcadia and this seemed to be one of the only Chinese places open so we only got the Beef Roll and Daikon Cake...they already ran out of chicken jook by 1015!!! Unreal, must be really good. The beef roll: so generous with the beef and had LOTS of cilantro. It was delicious except the portion being 2 pieces was smaller than I thought for $9. The wrap was thin and not too oily. The daikon cake: aka turnip cake was delicious even when reheated. Perfectly crispy outside and moist inside with great flavors. It wasn't as heavy as other turnip cakes I've had. They are doing some construction in the parking lot so that was a bit annoying since it limited parking. Also I believe you have to spend more than $25 in order to use a credit/debit card. Glad it was the one time I had cash. I recommend this place! read more
Highest credit card minimun I've personally experienced ($25) I got the turnip cake, fan tuan (salty), and dan bing. The fantuan was pretty heavy on carbs but carbs are my happy place so I was a happy fatkid. The salty turnip combined with the meat floss and crunchy chinese donut brought back so many childhood memories. The turnip cake is deliciously fried and crispy. It's also super delicate and light. The food was disappointing and didn't taste authentic, everything except the fan tuan was either really sweet or really bland, but the person working behind the counter was really kind. We had the steamed rice bowl that even one of the workers admitted without us asking to being very bland and to try it with their sauces- they brought us a ton of different sauces to help doctor it up. The fish roll was ok but again very sweet... the fan tuan with purple rice was the star of the meal, but we ordered a lot so I'm not impressed that only 1 out of 6 items (the rest were baked goods and a peanut drink) made the cut... While we were vacationing in LA, we had a hankering for Taiwanese breakfast and drove all the way to Monrovia from our rental in Beverly Glen. Yi Mei did not disappoint and my family quickly forgave me for taking them on such a long drive. We ordered so many dishes b/c our eyes were biggervthan our stomachs. In no partricular order we ordered the hot salty soy bean, beef roll, scallion pancake, pan fried dumplings, pan fried turnip cake, egg wrap and fried crueller. Then from the refridgerator section we grabbed a bunch of meat tamales a.k.a joong, cold soy bean milk and some sweet red bean dessert like pastries. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and surprisingly managed to finish everything. read more
One of my favorite Taiwanese breakfast joints. Their fan tuan rice rolls are one of the best in, dare I say, the 626...A huge factor for this is the high turnover. It guarantees the rice rolls are made to order and the Chinese donut inside is perfectly crunchy. A lot of people don't know to order this but it's my favorite -- the salty soy milk. It's loaded with fried donuts, pork sung, green onions, and pickled cabbage. A must get item. Their sausage rice was so reasonably priced as 9.75. The sausage was so good, it pops in your mouth. One of my favorite breakfast spots and quality and taste has been consistent every time. read more
Decent spot for your local Taiwanese comfort food fix but with room for improvement. Food is more like 3.5 but staff was nice so rounded to a 4. They do speak English well here too. Logistics: Shared parking lot with the Good Fortune Supermarket. Order up front first even if you dine in. This place does get pretty busy so expect a 5-10min or so wait if you're not grabbing something already made from the fridge, regardless if you're ordering to-go or dining in. They have a self service checkout kiosk near the entrance of the store to help alleviate the long cashier line, so you can order there with credit card. They also have a restroom inside for customers to use. Food: + for drinks, we had the almond tea and peanut milk. My friend said the peanut milk is exactly as it sounds - liquid peanut butter. I liked the hint of almond in my almond tea and it's slightly milky. + beef roll: very well seasoned... almost too well. It actually got pretty salty eating this otherwise it would've been perfect. The fatty beef is super tender and plenty of scallion/onion flavor inside. Wrap is packed with beef so they aren't being skimpy inside. Close to a favorite but the saltiness was a turn off. + juicy pork dumplings: not really much of a place you go for food presentation. Food was served and placed on top of plastic or a flimsy paper plate as in the case of our dumplings. Unfortunately I don't think this dish is one I would recommend. There isn't much pork in this and the flavor was subtle. Good amount of soup but didn't stand out to be flavorful. Relied a lot on the ginger and vinegar on the side for flavor. Love Taiwanese breakfast, so decided to see if this hits the spot. Yes and no. First off, place is decently large, but limited tables due to the pandemic. Felt safe, and everything clean. Radish cake: 4/5 taste, crispy and soft Beef roll: 4/5 taste, very expensive for the size Rice roll: 3/5 taste Chinese Pancake: 4/5 Hot Soy Milk: 4/5 Chinese Donut: 4/5 Overall, kind of expensive, but everything was good. No particular item blew me away though. Plenty of parking. Wouldn't suggest for a date, unless you are doing takeout. read more

I was craving for purple rice roll for a while so came to Yi Mei for it. I ordered a purple rice roll and a red bean bun from the refrigerated case. They offered to heat up the bun, which was nice. However, I was disappointed the purple rice tasted crunchy because it's not cooked through. The red bean bun was just ok. It's rather dry maybe they microwaved it. Overall a bit disappointed on the food. The cashier was not that friendly either. I may try other Taiwanese breakfast spots next time. read more
Food here is amazing! I usually order their fan tuan - a rice burrito with pork sung. Their beef rolls are to die for. Random thoughts about it gives me cravings to make the drive out here for a nice morning meal. I love coming here for a quick order pick up to enjoy at home. But they do have ample parking and seats inside if you ever want to enjoy your meal right away. There are also some pastries on the side and special soy milk if you ever want to grab one before placing your order. read more

Blown away by how good the Shao Bing were... sorry no pictures as we ate in the car while driving. We got the beef and a regular with egg and pork floss. They were crispy, had a good amount of toppings, and very filling. We would definitely order them again! The turnip cakes were light, not greasy and good flavor. Though I like mine usually with some shreds or pieces of turnip for more texture. The Guo Tie; potstickers, had good amount of fillings and also some soup. They were ok but the skin were a little too thick for my preference. The XiaoLongBao; juicy pork buns, were alright as well. Taste was right on but not as much juice as I like my XLB to be with. read more

I hadn't had a Taiwanese breakfast in such a long time, and I got excited when I came across Yi Mei while in the area. Driving over there after a hike in the San Gabriel Mountains, I was almost salivating over the shao bing and oyster omelet I would be having soon... However, to my biggest disappointment, Yi Mei was not open yet for indoor/outdoor dining; it was still doing take-out as we pulled into the parking lot. Any case, we opted to buy some food to-go and just eat in our car. We opted for shao bing you tiao, hot sweet soy milk, oyster omelet, fan tuan, and a few zongzi and Taiwanese pastries. Total came out to $50, which is four times how much it'd cost in Taiwan. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers... Eating in the car was a messy affair, as the flake and sesame seeds from the shao bing kept coming off. Not complaining, though, as the shao bing and you tiao were well-made. The soy milk itself wasn't sweet as advertised, and it lacked any real soy taste (all the while being a bit too watery for our taste). The oyster omelet, although chock-full of large, juicy oysters, was a disappointment, as there was WAY too much leafy green in proportion to the egg and oysters inside. The fan tuan was pretty good, although we had it later in the day and the you tiao had already become soggy. The pastries were a hit-or-miss, too. The sun pastry and pineapple cake had great flake and crust, but were bland on the filling. The red bean sesame pastry was absolutely delicious, though-- super flaky and bursting with red bean paste. Overall, it was kind of a let-down, as I'd hoped for an actual sit-down kind of Taiwanese breakfast. Alas, I understand the protocols due to COVID-19 are still in place...the quality was just A-Okay for me, not enough want to go back to try it again. But I did satisfy my Taiwanese breakfast craving! read more
Salty rice roll with sour pickles: More expensive than all the other taiwanese breakfast places that I've been to, but theirs is the best so far! There wasn't too much rice. There was a lot of pork sung, and the oil bread wasn't too oily, so the fan tuan itself didn't feel oily. Rice was a little hard this time, but usually it's soft and sticky. I wish there was a little more pickled vegetables because I like the slightly sour flavor and crunchy texture, but still a 5/5. They have a large parking lot shared with a few businesses, but I never had trouble finding a spot when I go for breakfast around 10-11am. I didn't get their fried daikon cakes or egg with crullers this time, but those are usually my favorites too. read more
I really enjoyed this place for a simple comfort breakfast. Everything is piping hot and fresh. We ordered through a screen and sat ourselves down. A server dropped by to give us some utensils and sauces to choose from. Hot soy milk: We ordered one and it was so fresh and delicious! Minced pork noodles: The minced pork was succulent and well marinated and they also had noodles instead of rice. Loved this so much! Pork dumplings: Piping hot and had a nice soup filling. Homey and comforting Rice roll: I wasn't as impressed with the rice roll but my boyfriend love it. He added Taiwanese sausage to it. All in all, I enjoyed this place. For COVID safety this restaurant makes ordering pretty easy. They have an online order website set up for you to order and pay. Upon arrival you just give them your name, pick up and go. I wanted daikon cake for lunar new year but with the pandemic and no big parties didn't want to be stuck with a whole loaf, so I put in one order. Good size. Very tasty. It was nice and soft and the garlic sauce went well with it. read more

Pro tip: Make sure you have cash on hand, because the credit card minimum is $25....I learned the hard way! I popped in on a Sunday morning around 10 AM and the line was already very long. If you want a table (only around 4-5 tables) to sit at, I recommend coming as early as possible for your breakfast fix. They open at 7 AM. The Chinese donut/youtiao was oily, too well-fried, and very hot. I wish it had a fluffier, airier texture inside. It was too dry to eat by itself so I always recommend getting soy milk on the side. Yi Mei offers hot and cold soy milk. All the cold drinks can be picked up directly from the refrigerator next to the cash register. Unfortunately, you cannot adjust the sweetness or else I would have asked for less sugar mixed in. Authentic soy milk from Taiwan does not come with any sugar and you usually add your own. Note that the salty soy milk comes with a lot of ingredients mixed in (Chinese donut, pork floss, vegetables, etc.) I also got an egg crepe/dan bing with taiwanese sausage on the side. I wished the dan bing had more flavor, but I asked for soy paste and sweet chili sauce on the side to supplement it. This dish was also very oily so feel free to dab the excess oil off with a napkin before you eat! Service was decent and the workers were very friendly. They also clean the tables quickly if you wanted to sit indoors. :) read more

Never tried a Taiwanese breakfast place before so this was a new experience!! 4/5 Fan tuan (purple rice roll): pretty yummy. It's really filling though. The rice outside is a bit crispy and it's stuffed with egg inside. Never had something like this before so it was good to try. 4/5 Beef roll: really packed with flavor. The meat was tender and it smelled amazing. It's similar to other beef rolls, but it is a bit oily though. 5/5 Radish cake: my favorite out of everything we ordered. I liked how these radish cakes were a bit thinner. They were slightly crispy and warm. I like spice so I added a bit of their chili sauce to each bite. 4.5/5 egg roll: can't go wrong with some eggs. Pretty yummy dish that isn't overwhelmingly salty. 3/5 Zong zi (Chinese tamale): not that impressed with the zong zi. It's okay, but there isn't much filling or flavor. Overall, it was a good breakfast if you like savory foods. It was a bit heavy, but the taste was on point. There's a shopping center in front of the store, so you should be able find parking (even if the spots are a bit narrow)! read more
Woke up CRAVING taiwanese breakfast today and wanted to have more than just a rice roll and soymilk so I ordered a few things to share at my parent's. Had the salty rice roll, both the sweet and salty purple rice rolls, egg omelet, green onion pancake, minced pork with rice, soymilk, and peanut milk. I prefer the regular rice rolls since the purples were a bit bland. The egg omelet was so delicious and comforting. It was my first time trying peanut milk and was surprised with how sweet and thick it was; it's texture resembled that of the black sesame dessert 芝麻糊. I originally wanted to try the breakfast at Si Hai/Four Seas since it's closer to me but was turned off by all the pictures of bugs that people found in their food. So glad I stuck with Yi Mei. I've eaten food here over 5 times and everytime I come away impressed. The food here is so fresh and the selection includes so many Taiwanese classics. However, the winner by far is the fantuan. The simple version is fine, but to me it's a tad too heavy on the carbs. Thankfully the fantuan can be customized (and I love customization). My order is not traditional and I don't think you will ever see people ordering this, but trust me it is sooo delicious My go-to order: fantuan with purple rice, extra pickles, add two eggs, beef and pork. I came on a Saturday afternoon ordered oyster pancake and salty soy milk for takeout. Service was ok, but extremely slow for my order, people came in after me for dine-in and takeout and 2 others called in ordered takeout got their food before me. Food: The $9.00 oysters pancake, not enough egg, not enough veggies, overwhelming corn starch and sweet potato starch mixture and only 3 oysters, very disappointing. Salty soy milk was too salty to my taste. Cleanness: restaurant looked clean; however, while I was waiting, I saw the same server taking customers order, handling cash, delivering foods to table, cleaning the table after customers left, preparing and taking takeout orders to customers, opening trash can behind counter multiple times to throw away the trash, and then taking foods from the refrigerator without washing hands... Is not stop selling but sold out because their rice roll was the best seller. Sometime people buy alot in one time. Better you make a phone order in earlier time to get at the time that you want (only suggestion). That I was do everytime when I want…
Is the soy milk made fresh at your restaurant?
Do they only speak Chinese or do they also talk in English? Would to go in and order but my Chinese speaking level is kinda crappy
