Ohhhh please don't order their iced "watered down" soy milk, for $3.25 you have a cup of drink that tastes a hint of soy. The environment is LOUD. Whether you're grabbing something on the go or settling in for a meal, Yi Mei will take care of you. My go-to items are always: Chinese Donut 油條, Rice Roll 飯糰 (They have white rice 白米 or black rice 紫米 here), and a hot soymilk. That to me is the perfect weekend breakfast! I've always been a fan of Taiwanese breakfast. It seems it's hard to find a good spot for rice roll. Glad we found this place and were able to customize the food based on our liking. We even came back and togo. Ordered the beef roll, purple rice roll, salted tofu, oyster omelet. We also order togo - Taiwanese sausage and popcorn chicken rice. Really enjoyed the purple rice roll. It was delicious and went well with the salted tofu. Beef in the beef rolls was tendered and melt in your mouth. The rice plate and flavors reminded me of childhood. Service was pretty prompt. Great taiwanese breakfast and dumplings. Each branch has the all you can pour yourself garlic soy sauce, which you should pour some to go! The rest of the menu can be a little different by location, but focus on the dumplings. Oyster pancake, fantwang, and pork chop rice bowl are good options too! And now you can make your own fantwang, add extra crispy yotuaw! Mandarin and English speaking nice staff, even concerned about building a proper fantwang. Come here! I do! If mexicans have breakfast burrito, this is what we have! I'd say it's a nice road trip breakfast on the go. Not messy and you can eat in the car. We opted for takeout since we had our pup with us. * Soymilk large - This soymilk had such a strong bean flavor with just the smooth clean finish. This was so refreshing especially on a hot summer day. * Pork bun- Nothing is more comforting than a hot steamy bun in the morning. The bun was fluffy, light and soft. The meat inside was seasoned well and juicy. I loved the parts of the bun soaked with the pork juice. * Daikon cake with egg- Get this dish with the egg! The daikon cake was silky soft and the egg adds another layer of flavor. I think this would be delicious with some chili sauce! * white sticky rice ball- This rice ball has all the textures: chewiness from the rice, crunchy from the fried donut, stringy from the pork floss, and crunchy bits of preserved veggie. All around, this has flavor and texture.. what else could you ask for? Service was great. Food came out piping hot in about 10 minutes or so. The prices are super affordable so you can expect to get a great deal here. Next time we visit, I would try the minced pork rice bowls. I tried the purple rice version this time and while it was tasty, the grains were less sticky so it got a little messy to eat. Well. Definitely a miss for me. We had several items for lunch. Starting with the Xiao Long Bao $9.75. These were okay however the filling had a strange grainy texture. 7/10 for me. The beef tendon noodle soup $13.95 had 2 pieces of hard lean beef and 2pcs of tendon. The soup tasted odd and the broth was milkier than those clean beefy broths you often get. It also wasn't as hot as it should be. It wasn't good for either of us and we couldn't chew the tough beef. Oyster omelette $10.50 was possibly the worst item here. Ultra thick slightly undercooked white dough (in Taiwan it's thinner, just enough dough to hold it together, more transparent, pan fried more and chewy but not elastic like here). It was just really hard to eat in terms of mouthfeel. The sweet thick sauce on thick dough was gross. We just picked the oysters out and left the weird dough behind. Sesame salty bread $2. Regular slightly sweet chewy bread. Okay. I also purchased a cold soy milk. It was very fresh but diabetes in a cup. We also tried the Fantuan another day because every place deserves another shot. They forgot the pickles and had to remake it. The rice also fell apart upon unwrapping. This was $9.30 total which does not match the prices on the menu. Sad to say, I cannot give it a third shot. read more

For $10 that rice roll is ginormous and definitely enough to split into two (think an extra fat chipotle burrito). If you're dining it would behoove you to get the garlic soy sauce. Unfortunately this place has nothing on Huge Tree Pastry on their fan tuan. Their fan tuan didn't hit the spot for me: the pickled vegetables had such a muted, deep flavor and there was just so little pork sung in it that everything just felt one-note and flat. While the fried donut was extra crisp and served as a good contrast point, the flavors just didn't meld together such that the words "this is ok.." just rang through my head. Their porridge was more .. water + rice than a thick porridge texture. It wasn't very pleasant to eat to be honest. It's a simple concept; a chinese donut with very little shredded pork rolled up in rice. Opt in for the purple rice for a more crunchy texture. But like so many uncomplicated foods, it makes for a perfect comfort food/snack. I would definitely get two of these if you are really hungry.
