Knowing that this is one of the last York Steakhouse Locations is quite sad, but it seemed like a lot of the community was helping keep this place alive. It is like a cafeteria self serve set up. Their salad bar was really fresh and delicious. For the main dinner portion I got the beef chuck steak and shrimp dinner, while my boyfriend got their T-bone steak. The steaks were no that impressive and not seasoned much. Service was great and the lady who took our order was super kind. This was never an exciting place, but you could always count on the steak to be tasty. This is the first time I've been since the ownership change and it was not good. The steak was comically thin, like a pancake, very tough, and literally no flavor at all, almost as if it were boiled. Even A-1 couldn't make it edible. Been eating at York for years, it was my little time capsule back to fond memories. And was thrilled to find one still operating. The waitress even remembers my drink preference after these many years. But, I tried it after not visiting for a few months, and I came to later learn after an ownership change, and I ordered the fish with butter and sliced pecans. The fish was tough and chewy, like something that had sat in a freezer for months and then been cooked way too long. I've not been back since. Only because I long for it to survive, I'll give it one more try later on; but if they serve me another inedible piece of fish, I'll have to admit that when the prior owner left, my beloved York Family Stealhouse died. read more

Nostalgia plus really great food! Reasonably priced, the decor takes me back to the late 80s which is fantastic. I was not expecting the food to be good.... And it was really , really good. This old school style Steakhouse is a step back in time! I couldn't believe that in its 50 years of service I had never been here. I'm aware of the nostalgia it brings a lot of Columbus natives but I didn't know what to expect when I walked in. I was taken aback by the cafeteria ordering style upon entering but my husband and I settled on Philly cheesesteaks & fries. We opted out of any additional sides like the famous baked potato or salad bar which I now know from reading other reviews was a misstep. I liked being able to choose where we wanted to sit. We snuggled into a booth and a very nice server greeted us politely and offered their services should we need anything. There were plenty of employees bustling about making sure the restaurant ran smoothly; it was great to see teamwork in action. Our sandwiches were delivered promptly to our table. I was really surprised at how good the food was! The fries could've used some seasoning but our Philly Cheesesteaks were so fresh and delicious we basically inhaled them. We finally got to try this place out after recently moving to the area. My mother was with us and remembered eating here at a mall in Rhode Island many years ago. My mom was in town for a seminar and she wanted to go someplace near her conference location. This is not the best part of town and most of the other places were fast food, so we wound up here. As most people said, this is more like a cafeteria style as opposed to sit down. I ordered the two filets and we paid at the end of the counter after getting salad and a drink. We waited for a while and then received our meat courses. The interior is dimly lit and well worn but clean, all the employees we interacted with were very polite. The prices were very reasonable as well. If you're close by and want a decent priced dinner at a non fast food joint, this is a good option. read more

I like the old style you order pay sit down they deliver the sirloin steak however I don't know how you can mess steak up, but it was chewy. I got it medium rare and no flavor not good. Went there today for my mother's 91st birthday. This is where she wanted to go. There were 5 of us. $80 so good price. Left a $25 tip for the server who only came to our table one time. Needs fired. Ordered my steak medium rare, and it was way overcooked. I've been going here since around 1968. Worst experience ever. I'll have to think if I want to continue for this to be one of my go to places. And still no T-Bones? What's the problem? I generally go here at least 2-4 times a month but things have to improve a lot. read more

I love York Steakhouse and I wish more people our age would try it out!! It's like cafeteria style to an extent but you get to order your entree to be brought out to you. The prices are phenomenal and the steak was very delicious. Hubby got the 2 filet meal and it was literally only $18. I find it to be a steal. First time here after the new owners have taken the helm. Surprised bc we love Starliner. Lettuce with pink edges swimming in water in the salad bar, no assistance refilling portions that were empty. Steak was medium when ordered med rare. Server never came to check on us once after the delivery of food. I resorted to getting refills for the kids myself because they even used ice cubes to try to quench thirst. Super bummed. The food was fine, this review is mainly on power wheelchair accessibility as I couldn't find any other reviews. We have great memories of family steakhouses and just wanted to relive memories. There is a ramp outside that works well. If you have a companion they will have to hold the door for you. We entered and studied the menu board and chose our meal. As we moved past the board we turned right to enter the ordering line and that is when the problem began. (If we had turned left I could have entered through the exit, but my husband would have had to go through the line without my input). There were several 90 degree turns that had me rocking back and forth trying to negotiate the path. I'm not sure a larger wheelchair would fit, just glad there wasn't a line behind me. I could reach some things from the chair, fortunately my husband was there. I finally made it through the maze and found an open table. The next problem was when we tried exiting. My husband was holding the door and my chair got stuck on the metal threshold. Fortunately several kind gentlemen helped push the chair from behind and we were able to leave. So I would recommend your companion check it out for your situation before you try to enter. read more

Absolutely loved this slice of Americana! I worked in a York in high school so had to finally get here. The food is fantastic for the price and the soothing setup and dining area was perfection. I had great steak tips, awesome steak fries and a roll just out of the oven. All tasted lovely. When I worked there ( Maple Hts, Oh) in 1980 we had to say back the persons steak order in French. Kind of odd but kind of cool in a way too. To me this place IS A DESTINATION RESTAURANT, as you won't find this kind of value and nostalgia elsewhere. I hope this place stays open forever so kids can feel the beautiful America we had before our 44th President. There was a nice flow of patrons too which is good news. Read an article about this place and had to try it because we felt like time traveling back to 1980. I gotta say, York Steakhouse did not disappoint. It was like major nostalgia because it reminded me of the old cafeterias and restaurants in the casinos off the strip in Las Vegas that my family would take me to when I was visiting them. Thanks to other reviews, we knew to park in the back of the building, and go through the back door. That is where you enter the line of people waiting to order. An old school menu is on the wall, and there was enough time to figure out what we wanted to order without being rushed. You grab a cafeteria tray and utensils, they take your order, give you a salad plate, and off you go down a line where you pick out your dessert, make your salad, get a drink, and load up on butter and sour cream for your bread and potatoes. I grabbed a slice of lemon crunch pie, and my hubby grabbed the cinnamon crunch apple pie. The salad bar was pretty basic (bummed there weren't any beets). I didn't know what dressing to try, so I went for the ranch. It was not homemade ranch. It tasted like cheap bottled stuff, so I will try something different next time. The total was under $40 for everything before tax, so very reasonable. You can't add tips to the total, but you can get cash back for tips, which is rather odd. We were able to find a comfortable booth to sit in, and the server stopped by and grabbed our ticket. As expected, the patrons were mostly older people. We both ordered the steak tips medium rare. They weren't medium rare, but more a hodgepodge of doneness, but still delicious, and not dry. The baked potato...well, it was a baked potato. LOL! The roll was warm, fresh, light, and airy. The pie was good. I'm pretty sure they use canned pie filling for the apple and the lemon, which was expected for the price. Overall a great experience. It is out of the way, so we won't go here often. But we do plan on going back sometime. read more

Great for nostalgia or if you grew up with it in the 70s and 80s. It's competes somewhat with Ponderosa, Bonanza, Sizzler, etc. It was a staple of shopping malls in Central Ohio. Dark wood and tinted windows throughout, and the low light typical of this type of restaurant is not seen much anymore. The experience starts with a cafeteria tray type experience, and then you pay, sit down, and wait for your food. Steaks were thin but prepared to my satisfaction, and the desserts I tried, which historically are created fresh daily, I felt were very good. I went for dinner but would like to try it out for lunch because I did appreciate the memories and steak fries. York Steakhouse isn't good because it's not a steak house. If you went to a low budget theme park based soley on the year 1979, this would be the cafeteria. From the outside York looks like the strip club it will surely someday become. No windows, and an entrance in the back so no one knows your dirty secret. It is an excellent weird crappy cafeteria. The food was something I would expect if I lived in an isolated village after decades of drought- long after everyone who knew how to cook had died and my concept of food had been significantly downgraded as my sad people became emaciated and hopeless. I kept thinking that they should have taken the resources they had, and maybe lowered their goals. Maybe they could have taken the dry roll and the thin slice of low grade steak and made a decent meatloaf. Plus it kind of reminded me of a ponderosa, so...we finally went. There was a definite 70's vibe. The decor probably hasn't changed since then and it's ok. The Muzak was cracking us up...I mean, when was the last time you heard a Muzak version of The Cranberries "Dreams"? I'll take never for $500, Alex. But I digress. The salad bar was kind of limited, but everything was fresh and delicious. The baked potatoes were pretty perfect. I got the filet which honestly would have been delicious. But. Medium rare became basically still raw. I mean, not even warm in the middle. Gordon Ramsey would have thrown it at somebody if it was "cooked" on one of his shows. So I've heard tales about how this place is a westside staple. My aunt used to rave about their steak. I personally had never been there and I was in the area shopping so the wife and I decided to check them out. The parking situation is a bit odd, but we managed. Once you get to the backdoor aka the entrance, you go through a little maze to get to the cashier. We explained to the cashier that this was our first time coming here and asked her what she suggested. She immediately suggested the sirloin tips and stated they were very tender. She explained to us the whole setup which was still weird to me. You order and pay for your food, grab a tray, get your utensils, drinks, condiments and then find a seat. We took her advice and ordered the sirloin tips. They advised us that the meal comes with access to the salad bar and let us know that the plates were up near the line where you get your utensils. Not sure why they are at the salad bar, this would be ideal because it wouldn't require you to walk back and forth to the salad bar and the line. We went up to the salad bar and made ourselves some salads and I grabbed a jello. Sat down, ate our whole salads and I even polished off my jello. Then finally our food came out. The presentation wasn't much to look at. But were hungry so we dug in. Well the cashier was right, they tips were tender...But that was it! No flavor whatsoever and the grilled onions did not do much to help this dish out. I ordered fries, which were also tasteless. The decor was very outdated, my guess is they have not updated it since they opened. Lots of old folks were pouring into this place, probably because their taste buds are long gone. Our server kept the drinks coming, so he is for the most part the reason I am giving them a 1 star. The GOOD: Server was awesome and the roll was good. The BAD: Interior of this place is old and uninviting. The UGLY: Sirloin tips are tasteless, I would have rather had a Banquet Salisbury steak dinner. And I think either the salad dressing was old or something was off with the steak, because around 30 minutes later me and my wife (who ordered the same thing as me) both bolted for the bathroom.
