I very much enjoy the food at Zankou. My go to fantastic faves are the kebabs, the chicken tarna, and the roasted chicken. The hummus and tahini are also fantastic. And, the garlic sauce brings everything together! For the food alone, I would give 4 out of 5 stars. However, alas, and frustrated, I can only give 2 stars to Zankou because they cannot, for whatever reason, not include the spiced onions when asked not to. I'm not a fan of onions unless they are deep fried in ring form. Other than that, I don't want onions anywhere near my food. I have requested no onions in person, through an app, and over the phone. But, every single time, when I look at my meal, there they are...the spiced onions. And even when I diligently and painstakingly remove each slice of those spiced onions from my plate, one by one, the smell and flavor lingers in every bite of my meal that I take. There was a time when I was eating in person at this location and asked for no onions. Of course, when my food was ready, there were those spiced onions. When I brought my plate back because there were onions, they took the plate, and I waited and watched one of the cooks remove the onions with his hand and return the plate to me. Again, the taste and smell of those spiced onions remained. So, nowadays, I just order a wrap because onions are not included. Therefore, there is nothing for the employees to mess up. I do miss those kebab plates, however. In short, I think the employees at Zankou need to show more focus on what is documented on the ticket. This combo came with pita breads package, garlic sauces, hummus, and pickled turnips with chilies. This combo was cheap and filling meal for lunch or dinner. Good for protein intake. I was literally assaulted inside Zankou Chicken Van Nuys!! Recently I was standing inside Zankou Chicken waiting for my order, when a man suddenly approached me with a dirty look and tried to slap me in the face -- but he missed and hit my shoulder instead. I had to run straight into the kitchen for cover and had to hide behind kitchen staff . Once I was hiding inside the kitchen and huddling between the kitchen employees, he then started to throw food and utensils at me from a distance.... while yelling obscenities and homophobic words. I wish I can say this was all just a scene from a movie, but unfortunately it was real. I honestly have no idea why these two people, a man and a woman who appeared to be in their late twenties suddenly targeted me. The only thing I can think of is that it might have been because of how I was dressed that day (tennis shorts and a crop top), which made me wonder if it was a bias-motivated or homophobic attack? Either way, no one deserves to be treated that way for no apparent reason. I called 9-1-1 from inside the restaurant, but the attackers fled before police arrived. I even tried to record video and take photos to document what happened and how the staff responded. What made everything even more disturbing was the management's reaction -- they refused to check the security cameras, and an older female employee by the name of Mariam (appeared to be in her late 50s) actually ran to comfort the attackers. It seemed as though Mariam knew them personally, and was trying to steer them away from me. Regardless, it was completely unprofessional and bizarre. After things calmed down, several customers came up to me, expressing how shocked they were and encouraging me to write this review to raise awareness about what happened. That support meant a lot, but it doesn't erase this unfortunate experience. No customer should ever have to run for cover or feel unsafe, unprotected, and dismissed like that inside a restaurant! Ever since they moved locations, I notice the quantity of food decreasing with each visit. My husband and I ordered tabouli as one of our sides and we each probably had 3 spoonfuls of it - embarrassing amount to serve your customers. Zankou Chicken has been on my list for years, and I'm glad I finally had the opportunity to experience it myself. Parking was very easy, since it's located in a big lot next to LA Fitness. I had their Combo Kabob with Chicken Skewer and Beef Skewer along with rice, cucumber salad, garlic sauce, and pita bread. For ~ $20, it felt a bit for one meal BUT this could easily be split into two meals. The interior of the chicken and beef kabob was quite juicy and tender, though the outside of the chicken was a tad dry. The banana pepper was a prank - too much for me, but can't argue with nature! The pita was a good carb side quest from the rice, and the hummus was tasty. When bites got too dry or repetitive, there was a refreshing cucumber salad on the side, too - glad to have found a good casual stop for lunch. read more

I visited the restaurant on September 13th between 9:30 and 9:40 pm. The lady who welcomed me provided excellent service: very kind, attentive, and genuinely friendly. Likewise, the man who handed me my order was very pleasant and professional. However, the experience was overshadowed by the behavior of the cooks in the back. They were shouting excessively, in a way that did not feel appropriate for a restaurant, which created an uncomfortable atmosphere for customers. Even when the lady tried to calm them down, they ignored her, giving the impression of disorganization and lack of respect. It felt more like a bar than a dining place because of the loud and unpleasant yelling. Located off of Sepulveda Blvd & Erwin St, this is one of the biggest locations for Zankou Chicken we've been to. It has a shared parking lot with LA Fitness and other eateries, but parking has never been an issue. There's even some 15 minute spots out front if you're in a hurry. You can order in person but most seem to order online for pick-up as there's hardly ever anyone eating inside (pretty spacious interior though). My better half's go-to order is the Chicken Tarna Plate. She normally gets hers with hummus, cucumber salad, diced tomatoes and turnips with garlic sauce. My office regularly has lunch catered from here so I've tried a little bit of everything. It's all pretty good but the garlic is so overpowering! It reeks even from just picking up the food! My personal choice is the Chicken Kabob Wrap with no garlic sauce. The food is tasty and healthy, garlic lovers are in heaven, employees are friendly and attentive, there's plenty of parking and pick-up is prompt and accurate (especially helpful for healthcare workers in the area). read more

We had a big order and went there to pick it up. The lady working there (Maria) handed us 2 bags without even checking the name on the order. One of the bags was completely wrong! The chicken is pretty consistent all the time. It comes with pita bread, turnips and diced tomato and a hummus of course!
