I enjoyed our leisurely lunch here! Hubby and I were enamored of the cucumber basil martini, the bang bang shrimp, the Sakura roll, and enjoyed everything else we ordered as well. Zest has a wonderful location and a great staff, but the food was very lack luster for us! It's not that it was bad, but we weren't blown away by anything and when you factor in the prices we were pretty disappointed. I don't see us coming back here, especially when the street is lined with restaurants. read more

We've been to Zest for many, many years and it's still my all time favorite restaurant. The atmosphere inside is relaxed and classy but the best seats are on the patio and watching the hustle and bustle on Canton street. Seriously all food is really good and it's beautifully presented, but my favorite is their sushi. It's impossible to pick only one roll though! read more

How can this place be 3.5 stars??? This is one time Yelp had it all wrong.... Maybe 3.5 for parking. Food is 6, service is 4, atmosphere is 5. They deserve 5! We had a few small plates including one Mac and cheese for our 8 year old and two sushi rolls. Sitting outside, we enjoyed people and car watch. I had once posted a 5 star review for this restaurant 3 or 4 years ago but it's now reduced to 1 star for terrible restaurant management. We showed up today with a party of 13 (pretty common group size when we have been in the past). The hostess said they won't do parties over 10. Ok, split us into 6 and 7. The Gen Z hostess then instructed me to read the sign posted on her stand as she informed me they will not split parties. We said how about we walk away for a few minutes and come back as a party of 6 and 7. She said she know we are a party of 13 and we will not be seated. WOW. Great management as small business across the country struggle to recover. We walked right next door to Little Alley and were promptly seated as a party of 13 at one table. Nice job Zest management. You just lost 13 customers that visited you several times a year. Way to go Little Alley on excellent service, great food and cold champagne. We are glad you and our awesome waitress got our business. I get not splitting checks on parties larger than 10 but to turn away 13 customers that are willing to sit at separate tables simply because we all know one another. Just stupid. See ya Zest. I was at Zest last night and was excited to go. I had been before and it's been a while so I decided to drop in. I went with my guy and we sat outside. Ambiance is nice and street side table was cute. We ordered Oysters Rockefeller, spinach dip and fish tacos. I have had the tacos before and they were YUM. The first food came out really quickly and the Spinach and Artichoke Dip was hot and steamy. I have not had this before, so I was interested to try. It was heavy, cream-cheesy and just too much. I had a few bites and wasn't able to eat any more, as it was so rich. The multi colored chips they had on the plate for dipping kept breaking as I tried to grab each bite. No bueno. The oysters came out and my guy liked them a whole lot. He ate them all and enjoyed. Finally the fish street tacos came out and there were two on the plate. One taco had a fish twice the size of the other- can we say super uneven portions?? The slaw they had inside the taco included cucumbers, which I don't know about you, but hot cucumbers? Ehhh, no way. I picked them out since they were soggy and gross. The spicy mayo was the best thing in the taco to be honest. After the meal we decided we would not try Zest again for a while. I was not as happy with the meal as I had been in the past. We should have just ordered sushi, which was my original reason for going in the first place. read more

This was my first time to eat at Zest and I really liked the atmosphere. Their outside seating is located in front of the restaurant on Canton Street. It was really fun to sit and watch what was going on around me. My waitress was very helpful in describing the items on the menu and I decided to go with sushi. Tuesdays are $5 martini night, so I started with an Apple Martini. It was very good, not watered down at all - which was surprising for only $5. For dinner I had edamame, a California Roll and a Snow White Roll (snow crab rolled in cucumber with a jalapeno sauce). The edamame was a nice portion and delicious. I really liked the California roll, but next time I'd skip the Snow White roll, as it was more expensive and not as good as the California roll. I would come back again to sit on their patio, but would probably skip it if the only seating available was inside. read more

Great experience with a Sunday lunch. The menu was available by QR Code so no hard copy menu unless requested. I ordered 2 dozen Gulf oysters, which were fresh and salty. My wife ordered the Shrimp and Grits, which was Gluten-Free, and the small plate portion was just perfect for her. There are several other Gluten-Free alternatives and the menu labels them to make it easier to identify. Based on previous recommendations, I ordered the Beef Short Rib Street Taco, which was a great selection. Overall, the outside patio was a good place to enjoy a Sunday meal. read more

Best sushi in Roswell! We came on a Tuesday night and there was about a 15 minute wait to sit outside. Although we sat outside, the tables were a little close for my comfort level but it worked out we were towards the end. Our server was really great. She was very friendly and made us feel welcome. We ordered the edamame and Parmesan truffle fries to start. The edamame was great! I think you could pass on the Parmesan truffle fries though - they were kind of bland and couldn't taste the truffle or Parmesan. Onto the good stuff... the sushi. We ordered the Gorilla, Roswell, and Dynamite roll. Gorilla roll was great and it really had a nice spicy kick to it! The dynamite roll was okay - didn't have much flavor. One of the better options on Canton Street. Always consistent, there is actually more variety on the menu than many realize. Can be a bit crowded on the bar side of the indoor seating. The most diverse restaurant on Canton Street, and in a tie for my favorite place to dine. Also great for that group of eclectic people that can never agree on what they want for dinner. Zest is a tapas and sushi bar (though they order it the other way) and an amazing one at that. Their small plates are heaven with plenty of custom creations nightly that really entice the palate. Like the packed Canton Street area, this is a shotgun style establishment with a few tables out front, bar down the side, and small tables along the other. Draws a very strong business and well worth the wait. Wayyyyy too many scrumptious items to simply list, I rather encourage you to try the place. Great wine and alcohol menus as well that pair very well with the cuisine. Truly an upscale, standout of a restaurant and one of the best on the Canton strip. They know they are a restaurant foremost and take it seriously, unlike some of the other places that tend to be bars masquerading as restaurants. read more

I may be a half star under on my opinion here, but you know the drill on that. The sushi is well done, and some good options, including the typical 'zesty festy roll' type names - original design rolls with thier own creative names. It sounds zippy and creative. I like that. The rolls are well put together, tight, fresh. Two major beefs... no wait this is a sushi place. Ok, two things I find fishy about the place. First, is the portions, Zest, you are a sushi restaraunt, you either need to have your items in a bite, or mutliple bites done by chop sticks or fingers, without falling to pieces all over the table. Secondly, your pricing is wayyyy over rated. 10 and 12+$ for an appetizer? Come on.... If you are going to charge 13,14+$ for some of your rolls they better be the best I've ever had. .... and I've had better. On the bright side, they will have me back the next time I want to eat sushi on an outdoor patio, I think they pretty much have the market cornered on that one. Oh wait, 'rolled up'. read more

Salt Factory had an hour and a half wait. Ain't nobody got time for that. It was 8pm on a Saturday night. We were hungry and ready for food, and needed to be home by 9:30. So our options were limited and Salt Factory was not one of them. After several failed attempts to be seated immediately, we stumbled upon Zest. There was no wait for a table inside or out, which is always a little suspect, especially when all the other restaurants around have no problem filling up their dining rooms. Let's just say, I had no expectations about a place that serves both sushi and tapas. Not too pleased about the cockroach we saw crawl up the wall (we were sitting outside). It didn't bother our meal though. Our server was very nice, although it seemed like he was a bit scarce when we needed him. We ended up just ordering from the tapas menu and completely ignored the sushi. I'm not much for American sushi, no thank you. The tapas all came out at one time, which was a pleasant surprise. Parmesan Truffle Fries - don't. Just don't. They just taste like normal fries... Not worth it. Probably our worst decision of the night. Braised Beef Short Rib - tender meat, atop a bed of tasty mashed potatoes, mushrooms and onions. Not bad. My friend is who many would refer to as a "grillmaster" and he delighted in this dish. Mac and Cheese - truffle Mac and cheese. This was my other dining companion's favorite dish. Nicely cooked, can't mess up this one. Steak Quesadilla - a pleasant surprise. Was expecting some crappy Tex-Mex quesadilla sloppily thrown together. They were the cutest mini tortillas chock full of ground steak. Probably my favorite surprise dish of the night. Chicken Lettuce Wrap - crisp wraps full of the chicken filling. A little too full, since the chicken mixture kept falling out of the lettuce wrap. The hoisin dip was a nice touch. Shrimp and grits - this took a little longer to get to our table. It was a different approach to the popular concept of shrimp and grits. The grits were smothered in a beurre blanc sauce, giving it an almost soupy appearance. The shrimps were nice and succulent. Overall, this was one hell of a surprise. While I can't say much for the sushi, I can say these are some pretty tasty American tapas. read more

Really enjoying the expanded space at Zest! The mussels are fantastic (white wine sauce), seafood salad (vinaigrette) - large portion so three of us split it and there was still some leftover. Love to come here for Tapas too. hubby had the Seafood stew and loved it except for the squid (lol). Friends had Zest Sushi and said it was fantastic. We each had two glasses of wine, total about $90 for all. Service was excellent, a bit loud as the place was hopping, but we will be back regularly. The newest addition to Canton Street of Roswell. I went with a group of friends after seeing a play at the Georgia Ensemble Theater. It was pretty late (late for the burbs on a Wednesday) and we were looking for a snack and a drink. Most of the other places appeared to be closing up, but Zest was open until 10. They were very accommodating, even though I am sure they were hoping to close soon. We tried the edamame hummus and it was super good. Served with wanton triangles it was the perfect blend of flavors. That and a decent glass of wine made for a fine ending to our evening. read more

"Topless bar?!?!" my wife asked in shock. You have to understand with my puritan roots that I wouldn't so much as darken the door of a Hooters. Once I clarified the spelling, she was still confused on the concept of a "tapas bar." So I used the sushi bar concept as a metaphor for the similarity in "eating" style. Consequently I've always seen the similarities between the two cuisines, so it was exciting to see the work progressing on this new establishment which brings the two concepts together. After a sufficient delay to allow them to work out their opening-day kinks, we stopped by to give them a try. Would we lean to the tapas or go with the sushi? Could the two hemispheres be mixed safely? Well, yes they can! There was no guardian at the door so we headed toward the back and seated ourselves. We were quickly greeted and after our waitress took our drink orders, we shifted to the next table as the one we'd picked had a horrible wobble. The friendly waitress didn't seem to notice and we started off by ordering the Edamame Hummus and a Ginger Salad. The "spicy" wonton chips weren't, but they still complimented the hummus which was delicious - possibly the best item we ordered. Susie's salad started delicious, but they'd been stingy with the dressing and the tiny dab was only on top of the pretty dish. Once she got past the top layer it was just giant leaves of spring greens. This could be an excellent dish if there was more dressing and if they broke down the greens to fit an average mouth. Next we had the Calamari and Gyoza. The tender and tasty calamari were served with a microscopic drop of a greenish mayonnaise-like sauce and an normal sized sweet chili dipping sauce. Both sauces were good, but it left me wondering if the other sauce had been an accidental drip onto the plate or just some kind of artistic statement. The gyoza was the typical pan seared dumplings and standard dipping sauce, but perfectly executed and full of flavor. Last we had the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp and then the Rock 'n Roll and the Dancing Eel roll. We both love unagi and wanted to compare these eel-based rolls. The Dancing Eel took a minor lead due to the addition of crab. But you won't go wrong with either. The shrimp tapas, however was a bit disappointing as the bacon was flavorless. While it didn't ruin the dish, it certainly didn't bring anything to the party in the texture or flavor departments. It's certainly an okay dish, but not up to my expectations. It was served on a "slaw" with a very subtle flavoring. I think it was meant to compliment the dipping sauce, but with so little flavor in the shrimp, I left most of it untouched. The sauce came in two parts: a sweet teriyaki sauce (almost a BBQ sauce), and a spicy chili sauce. It is served so you can dip in either or mix a bit of both together. The sauces hid the failings of the shrimp and elevated them to the level of edible. Unless they get an overhaul, I'd pass on them, however. (Side note: strangely their sushi menu lacked squid and octopus, while sea urchin was offered). The atmosphere of this restaurant leans heavily to the bar side. The long, narrow room is dominated on one side by a bar and its TV's. This makes for an unfriendly echo chamber, and concrete floors and abundance of hard surfaces makes for an acoustically harsh environment. We also had the misfortune of sitting next to the speaker providing background music, and I think it was mounted too low (nearly ear level). Minimalistic seating runs along the wall opposite the bar and there are also a small number of tables outside on the crowded sidewalk. Since each tapas/sushi item is artistically presented on it's own pretty plate, the tiny tables are quickly overwhelmed. The staff attempts to compensate by taking away the unused plates quickly, but can accidentally remove a dish before you've finished it. So the timing of your orders becomes an onus, complicated by the fact that kitchen dishes come out much faster than sushi dishes. Overall the food was enjoyable and the price is fair for this quality, which minimizes the shortcomings. The location is also conveniently located in the historic district and I'm sure we'll be back. They're working hard to be an upscale dining option, and I'm confident they'll sand off the rough edges soon enough. read more

My husband has been wanting to go here for quite some time. Almost all the reviews are five star, but the most recent one I saw was a poor review, so I was curious to see how this would go. We ate at Zest today and Oh My! It was WONDERFUL. Zest was the most amazing experience. When you walk in, the atmosphere is casual, yet classy. The decorations are perfect, the service was top of the line, and the food was impeccable! I dont think the last review I read, posted under the correct restaurant because Zest was magnificent. It had the cleanest and most comforting vibe. Everything seemed either new or very well kept. The food was so delicious, I ate way too much because it was so tasty! We will be going back regularly! My friend and I shared the smoked salmon chips and lobster roll with a Lazy Afternoon cocktail...Loved It‼We also got the chicken satay which we weren't very impressed with because it didn't come with peanut sauce...but my dog loved it.
