I never heard of Zippy's until last night. It's a Hawaiian restaurant. I was hoping to get chicken curry, but they don't sell that anymore. I got chicken katsu with rice & mac, vegeterian chili with rice, a slice of banana cream pie, and grilled corn bread. Everything came in much bigger portions than I thought they would! Got lunch out of the leftovers! Everything was really good. Definitely a place I will go back to. We were helped by Sumerlyn and she was awesome! She was sweet, answered my questions, had a lot of patience, and helped me sign up for rewards. The building is pretty big and it's air conditioned! Everything I saw was clean, organized, and well-placed. The bakery section was my favorite, because, yum! It took me at least 5 minutes to settle on the banana cream pie & it was worth it! Zippy's has finally landed in Summerlin, one of Vegas' most affluent suburbs, and always a necessity for the 9th island (#1). I have made it a mandate to visit all the Zippy's locations in Sin City, so here we are. The initial impressions are always good: new building, clean interior, spacious digs, and lots of seating for all types of parties. The diner vibe that Zippy's is known for is still intact and it feels casual enough to not feel too corporate'y. It seems like quite a few staff are from the Aloha State, which gives it some immediate cred. The average price for dishes on the menu are between $15-20. This feels expensive for loyalists to the brand, but foodflation hit Hawaiian far earlier than most. Still, the variety of Hawaiian comfort foods is extensive and a safe bet is their zip pack ($16), which contains a bit of everything: fried chicken, breaded fish filet, teriyaki marinated beef, spam, over a bed of rice and pickled radishes. This is their most popular dish for a reason. Add some chili and a mac salad and it becomes a deluxe. ($19) A go-to dish on my end is their chili loco moco ($16), which is their signature chili with gravy over two hamburger patties, mac salad, on rice. It's rich, indulgent, and the patties are cooked perfectly. Breakfast is still one of my favorite times to come to any Zippy's, but eggs with hashbrowns, spam, and Portuguese sausage will never get old. The only thing about this location that gets a ding star-wise is the fact the service can be a little slow. It's not just for takeout, but even seating customers on a regular day means folks are sitting around constantly. It's almost as if they're working on island time, which is not ideal useful for anyone in a hurry. Additionally their bakery is not as well stocked as I think it could be, but the weekends might be the best bet for their display case. A visit to this Zippy's should be casual, low expectations, and full of hunger. Zippy's has become one of my go-to breakfast spots. I always order the Korean fried chicken breakfast with Portuguese sausage, and it's consistently delicious every time. It's one of those meals I keep coming back for because I know exactly what I'm getting. I was disappointed to see they stopped serving fried rice, though. To me, fried rice is such a Hawaiian staple, so it feels like something is missing without it. Service can be a little slow at times, but I guess they're just operating on Hawaiian time. Thankfully Zippy's has four locations in Las Vegas (the fifth on Hualapai is closing for good). Zippy's can't even make a return to Kauai, so here we are. We were staying on the North side and drove down to Summerlin since we wanted some Zippy's. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Not sure if we had hungry eyes but we ordered so much food. Our server recommended the grilled cornbread and it did not disappoint. Also, get that red hotdog for your spaghetti. At this location, breakfast is served all day long. Their orange bang slaps. Usually I get to attend grand openings for Zippy's in Vegas because my Kumu (teacher) would ask me to dance hula. This time around I was Illso it felt good to be here eating. Service on both times were great. The only negative was that someone wasn't standing by the counter where you enter and wait to be seated but that doesn't bother me but I can see some people get upset. Someone behind the take-out counter greeted me and we were sat quickly. We got to Zippy's about 7:00 pm on a Wednesday evening. Not crowded at all and the place looked clean and bright. Our service was very good. Most of us ordered the special $10.99 Korean Fried Chicken & Chili Mixed Plate. We substituted the two scoops of rice for Mac salad and you only get 1 scoop of Mac salad for the 2 scoops of rice. At our Hawaiian restaurants at home we get 2 scoops of Mac for substitution of 2 scoops of rice. Overall the food was decent and enjoyed by the group. The Korean Fried Chicken was tasty, Mac salad was basic and the chili was okay. One of our guys ordered their chili with no beans and he was able to get that so if you don't like beans you can ask for that. Looks like hash browns but it's corned beef hash. A little on the "Potatoey" side but with a unique taste. 3 eggs, not 2, would be nice. Toast optional but the rice fills you up. Cool place after visiting red rock ! We stopped by for lunch after having a day at the red rock canyon and food was yummy. We had a kids meal good portion and two adult meals food was fresh and flavorful . We ordered a sundae and a banana creme pie . The sundae pretty basic good and pie was not for me unfortunately the crust had chocolate which i didn't know and the flavor overall had an after taste almost like diet but ruined it for me didn't enjoy it but also didnt say anything since our server didnt really come to check in . We are trying someplace new every month and this month I picked Zippy's. So...it was just ok. Hubs enjoyed his food, I wasn't super hungry so I just had a couple of sides. I do love macaroni salad in Hawaii! So I ordered a side of mac salad and a slice of teriyaki beef, my husband had the Korean chicken dinner. I'll post pics of both meals. The Mac salad was so salty o couldn't eat it! I tried but it was just too much. The beef was ok. My hubs cleaned his plate so I think he liked everything. Allen was our server and he was so friendly and so nice! He was the highlight of my dinner for sure. We had the special, the Wrecking Crew Pac which includes Fried Chicken, Portugese Sausage, Hoki, and Chili. This is the newest edition to the Zippy's line up, I was there on the second day of this location opening. We got there around 7:00pm it wasn't too crowded and we didn't have to wait long for a table to sit. The layout is nice and clean, seating area up front for the to go orders and next to that is the dessert case. The dine in area is not too big but enough to accommodate. I had to order the wrecking crew it was so good. I got a spam musubi on the side. We also ordered a chicken katsu plate and tried the corn chowder. The corn chowder was a little salty but still good. This being a new location and only the second day open they still need some work. It's small things of course the food is fire. They servers are still learning, they forgot to bring things out like tartar sauce for the fish and the katsu sauce for the katsu. Like I said it's nothing bad, all this can be fixed with time and more experience with the menu. The servers are friendly and always checking back on the table, I love that. This has been the 5th time coming to this location, and It doesn't matter if we try to dine in, there's always 20-30 min wait, and it's always more than half empty? We always have to wait around for an employee to wave down, or at least make eye contact, believe me, they like to ignore people standing in front of the take out or dine in area? This is the closest Zippy's to us, but by far the worst customer service experience of all locations I've been to, including the ones in Hawaii. Assistant manager Christine and server galexus did an amazing job serving me and my two friends. We ordered the zip pac, fried noodle, Korean chicken and chili. For dessert we got the chocolate haupia, coconut cake, and chantily cake. The manager said the ube dessert and the strawberry cheesecake is not in the Hawaii zippys locations so I would try to taste those and check it out. Zippy's never disappoints! This is one of their newest locations that just opened up in town and I'm so glad they're expanding and opening several locations. It makes it super convenient when you're in the mood for good Hawaiian food. We ordered our food to go and the plates were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly packaged. We came on a weekday for lunch. It was full, but not crowded. We were greeted by a hostess and seated quickly. Our server took our order quickly, it seemed she had a large section (I only noted 2 servers for the restaurant). The wait for the food was long. The couple next to us sent an undercooked piece of fried chicken back. Our food arrived after about 20 minutes. My Korean fried chicken was good- enough for two meals. The loco moco was MASSIVE. 3 hamburger patties. We wanted to finish our lunch off with some malasadas but were told the dough wasn't rising correctly and they couldn't make them. I've previously used their pick up option- ordering online and picking up at the "food lockers". Such a cool concept to prevent crowding and longer waits. Simply text that you're there and your locker opens! So cool. The restaurant don't feel as "homey" as the restaurants in Hawaii, and the food is expensive (what isn't now a days?) but it's a nice reminder of home. This place is still brand new. I really wanted to like this Zippy's more than I did, because the food itself was actually good, but the dine-in experience needs serious management attention. This was my first time trying Zippy's, and when you walk in, there's a clear sign directing people to either takeout or dine-in. Looking back, I honestly should have gone straight to the takeout side. That is probably the only way I would recommend coming here right now. The main issue was not the staff. This falls on management. The restaurant needs better front-of-house structure, especially a hostess. We stood there for a few minutes before someone told us they would be with us. Once we were seated, it took about 10 minutes before anyone even came over to offer water or drinks. At that point, I was already watching the time because the dining room did not look packed enough to justify that kind of delay. Our server was Julius, and he was a really nice guy. You could tell he and the other server were working hard, but they looked stretched thin. The problem is that the servers were not only taking orders and handling tables, they also had to cash people out. That is too much on the servers and it shows. This location needs a hostess, a cashier, and a present manager helping control the flow instead of leaving the staff to run around trying to cover everything. Now, the food was the bright spot. We ordered the Chicken Trio and the regular Surf Pac, both with extra mac salad instead of rice. The Chicken Trio comes with golden fried chicken, chicken katsu, and Korean fried chicken. That was a solid plate. The chicken came out hot, crispy, and cooked properly, with enough variety between the pieces to keep it from feeling like just one basic fried chicken plate. The regular Surf Pac came with fried chicken, teriyaki beef, SPAM, and mac salad. That plate was also really good. The teriyaki beef had good flavor, the SPAM added that classic Hawaiian plate lunch feel, and the fried chicken was still the strongest part for me. The portions were solid on both plates. The mac salad was simple, not the most exciting I've had, but it was decent, and I usually judge Hawaiian spots by their mac salad. It was creamy and worked well with the rest of the plate, especially since we swapped the rice for extra mac. I also tried the Spam musubi. It was okay, but I personally would have liked a little more sauce. Nothing bad about it, it just needed a little more flavor for me. The surprise star of the meal was the complimentary chili and cornbread. That was excellent. Honestly, I would come back just for that. The drink was also refreshing, and Julius noticed the inconvenience with the timing and offered me one to go, which I appreciated. That was a nice gesture and another reason I want to be clear that my frustration is not with him. I would come back for the food, but unless I see better staffing and better organization, I would only do takeout. I prefer dining in, because food is always better fresh instead of sweating in a to-go box, but the sit-down experience here needs work. Food: good. Server: kind and trying his best. It was great to find this iconic Hawaiian restaurant in Las Vegas, right across the street from the Red Rock Hotel/Casino complex. I came early on a Thursday morning and had no wait. I had a delicious breakfast of Korean chicken breakfast with Portuguese sausage and upgraded to fried rice (worth the $2.20). My husband enjoyed some traditional Hawaiian pastries. - the Long John, a donut loaded with pastry cream, was his favorite. We were repeatedly skipped over while other tables were being checked on, or greeted, but no server to ask us if we were ready to order. This took about 20 minutes despite making eye contact, trying to wave multiple servers down and still not being acknowledged. The turning point for us is we waved at a server and we were directly in front of her view and she continued to walk past us. At this point we decided to just walk out and leave... My advice to anyone wanting to come dine here is as soon as you're sat let them know you're ready to order because you will practically be abandoned for quite some time. Every empty table around us was dirty and needed to be bussed-- so I feel that indicates to me they must be short staffed or just aren't good at multitasking in fast paced restaurant environments. While we were waiting to get seated I went to get some pastries from the bakery (pastries are 10/10! Love me some haupia cake and anything ube and zippys nails it) and the woman preparing it had it all packaged in front of me but instead of handing it to me went to take other people in line ordering take out which had me waiting 10 minutes just to receive my pastries. I just got done golfing at TPC Las Vegas in the baking sun and built a hearty appetite and decided to try out Zippy's for the first time. The restaurant was very clean and I enjoyed the decor and layout of this restaurant. I was sat and was tended to by a very nice lady whose name I did not get. I was told since it was my first time I got to sample one of a few items and I chose their chili. It did not disappoint. It was delicious. I then order the Chicken Trio which included golden fried chicken, chicken katsu, and Korean fried chicken served with Mac salad and white rice. It was a lot of food and I ate every last morsel of this delicious dish. There were so many items in their menu that I would love to try. Their dessert menu was vast and very enticing - unfortunately I didn't have any room left in my belly.
