I'm a walking conundrum: I hate leaving home, but I also like to travel. Voila! We have Las Vegas. The City of Sin. The Ninth Island. What happens here, stays here! But not when it comes to Yelp. Here, we share! I took a quick three-day getaway to Las Vegas and wanted to eat economically, but also be a little indulgent. Thankfully Zippy's has four locations in Las Vegas (the fifth on Hualapai is closing for good). Zippy's can't even make a return to Kauai, so here we are. After a long, arduous day of shopping in downtown Summerlin, a nice wonton min and a plate of Korean chicken (I told you I was being indulgent) really hit the spot. Service was quick and friendly. I really wanted to like this Zippy's more than I did, because the food itself was actually good, but the dine-in experience needs serious management attention. This was my first time trying Zippy's, and when you walk in, there's a clear sign directing people to either takeout or dine-in. Looking back, I honestly should have gone straight to the takeout side. That is probably the only way I would recommend coming here right now. The main issue was not the staff. This falls on management. The restaurant needs better front-of-house structure, especially a hostess. We stood there for a few minutes before someone told us they would be with us. Once we were seated, it took about 10 minutes before anyone even came over to offer water or drinks. At that point, I was already watching the time because the dining room did not look packed enough to justify that kind of delay. Our server was Julius, and he was a really nice guy. You could tell he and the other server were working hard, but they looked stretched thin. The problem is that the servers were not only taking orders and handling tables, they also had to cash people out. That is too much on the servers and it shows. This location needs a hostess, a cashier, and a present manager helping control the flow instead of leaving the staff to run around trying to cover everything. Now, the food was the bright spot. We ordered the Chicken Trio and the regular Surf Pac, both with extra mac salad instead of rice. The Chicken Trio comes with golden fried chicken, chicken katsu, and Korean fried chicken. That was a solid plate. The chicken came out hot, crispy, and cooked properly, with enough variety between the pieces to keep it from feeling like just one basic fried chicken plate. The regular Surf Pac came with fried chicken, teriyaki beef, SPAM, and mac salad. That plate was also really good. The teriyaki beef had good flavor, the SPAM added that classic Hawaiian plate lunch feel, and the fried chicken was still the strongest part for me. The portions were solid on both plates. The mac salad was simple, not the most exciting I've had, but it was decent, and I usually judge Hawaiian spots by their mac salad. It was creamy and worked well with the rest of the plate, especially since we swapped the rice for extra mac. I also tried the Spam musubi. It was okay, but I personally would have liked a little more sauce. Nothing bad about it, it just needed a little more flavor for me. The surprise star of the meal was the complimentary chili and cornbread. That was excellent. Honestly, I would come back just for that. The drink was also refreshing, and Julius noticed the inconvenience with the timing and offered me one to go, which I appreciated. That was a nice gesture and another reason I want to be clear that my frustration is not with him. I would come back for the food, but unless I see better staffing and better organization, I would only do takeout. I prefer dining in, because food is always better fresh instead of sweating in a to-go box, but the sit-down experience here needs work. Food: good. Server: kind and trying his best. We were staying on the North side and drove down to Summerlin since we wanted some Zippy's. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Not sure if we had hungry eyes but we ordered so much food. Our server recommended the grilled cornbread and it did not disappoint. Also, get that red hotdog for your spaghetti. At this location, breakfast is served all day long. Their orange bang slaps. It was so light. I'm also missing the Haupia cake as I am writing this. I can't wait to come back to LV for some Zippy's. read more

Cool place after visiting red rock ! We stopped by for lunch after having a day at the red rock canyon and food was yummy. We had a kids meal good portion and two adult meals food was fresh and flavorful . We ordered a sundae and a banana creme pie . The sundae pretty basic good and pie was not for me unfortunately the crust had chocolate which i didn't know and the flavor overall had an after taste almost like diet but ruined it for me didn't enjoy it but also didnt say anything since our server didnt really come to check in . Our server was nice but not sure if short staff she didn't really come back for refills until we order dessert she came and still didn't get more drinks . Usually I get to attend grand openings for Zippy's in Vegas because my Kumu (teacher) would ask me to dance hula. This time around I was Illso it felt good to be here eating. Service on both times were great. The only negative was that someone wasn't standing by the counter where you enter and wait to be seated but that doesn't bother me but I can see some people get upset. Someone behind the take-out counter greeted me and we were sat quickly. Food: Won Ton Min April Special- Korean Chicken with Chili no Beans French Fries Custard Pie Ensemada Corn Chowder Soup Everything hit the spot. The Korean chicken was cooked perfectly. Felt just like home. The Custard pie was a bit dense but I always compare it to Kilani Bakery which I know I shouldn't. Overall, great spot for ono food, get the cakes and pastries. The kids keiki meal comes with coloring menu and crayon and gets you a token to get a toy out of the machine. We got to Zippy's about 7:00 pm on a Wednesday evening. Not crowded at all and the place looked clean and bright. Our service was very good. Most of us ordered the special $10.99 Korean Fried Chicken & Chili Mixed Plate. We substituted the two scoops of rice for Mac salad and you only get 1 scoop of Mac salad for the 2 scoops of rice. At our Hawaiian restaurants at home we get 2 scoops of Mac for substitution of 2 scoops of rice. Overall the food was decent and enjoyed by the group. The Korean Fried Chicken was tasty, Mac salad was basic and the chili was okay. One of our guys ordered their chili with no beans and he was able to get that so if you don't like beans you can ask for that. Since we don't live in the area not sure if we would be back, but it was an okay establishment for a meal. read more

We are trying someplace new every month and this month I picked Zippy's. So...it was just ok. Hubs enjoyed his food, I wasn't super hungry so I just had a couple of sides. I do love macaroni salad in Hawaii! So I ordered a side of mac salad and a slice of teriyaki beef, my husband had the Korean chicken dinner. I'll post pics of both meals. The Mac salad was so salty o couldn't eat it! I tried but it was just too much. The beef was ok. My hubs cleaned his plate so I think he liked everything. Allen was our server and he was so friendly and so nice! He was the highlight of my dinner for sure. We had the special, the Wrecking Crew Pac which includes Fried Chicken, Portugese Sausage, Hoki, and Chili. I liked the Korean Fried Chicken Breakfast which includes a choice of bacon, corned beef, Spam or Portugese Sausage. The give alot of rice! We also ordered an Ube Ensemada which was great. This is the newest edition to the Zippy's line up, I was there on the second day of this location opening. We got there around 7:00pm it wasn't too crowded and we didn't have to wait long for a table to sit. The layout is nice and clean, seating area up front for the to go orders and next to that is the dessert case. The dine in area is not too big but enough to accommodate. I had to order the wrecking crew it was so good. I got a spam musubi on the side. We also ordered a chicken katsu plate and tried the corn chowder. The corn chowder was a little salty but still good. This being a new location and only the second day open they still need some work. It's small things of course the food is fire. They servers are still learning, they forgot to bring things out like tartar sauce for the fish and the katsu sauce for the katsu. Like I said it's nothing bad, all this can be fixed with time and more experience with the menu. The servers are friendly and always checking back on the table, I love that. We came on a weekday for lunch. It was full, but not crowded. We were greeted by a hostess and seated quickly. Our server took our order quickly, it seemed she had a large section (I only noted 2 servers for the restaurant). The wait for the food was long. The couple next to us sent an undercooked piece of fried chicken back. Our food arrived after about 20 minutes. My Korean fried chicken was good- enough for two meals. The loco moco was MASSIVE. 3 hamburger patties. We wanted to finish our lunch off with some malasadas but were told the dough wasn't rising correctly and they couldn't make them. I've previously used their pick up option- ordering online and picking up at the "food lockers". Such a cool concept to prevent crowding and longer waits. Simply text that you're there and your locker opens! So cool. The restaurant don't feel as "homey" as the restaurants in Hawaii, and the food is expensive (what isn't now a days?) but it's a nice reminder of home. This place is still brand new. They're trying to fix all the kinks still. It's worth a visit. read more

It was great to find this iconic Hawaiian restaurant in Las Vegas, right across the street from the Red Rock Hotel/Casino complex. I came early on a Thursday morning and had no wait. I had a delicious breakfast of Korean chicken breakfast with Portuguese sausage and upgraded to fried rice (worth the $2.20). My husband enjoyed some traditional Hawaiian pastries. - the Long John, a donut loaded with pastry cream, was his favorite. Its been a long time since I've been back to Zippys(just life be lifeing) but this location made me feel like I was back at home and I brought my bestie for her first time. As soon as you walk in greeted with a warm smile and that all to familiar smell of home cooking. I got a zip pak deluxe and my bestie got a teriyaki beef plate. First bite for her SOLD. Tender flavorful beef(didnt need a knife) perfect rice and Mac salad on point. My Zip Pak everything was cooked to perfection not a single thing done wrong(it was soo good I forgot to take pics) Now for the service Julius is a delight to talk with and made some great suggestions and again SOLD for a next time. On a side note idk if they have a special mixture but the Mountain Dew was just doing great things and the Lilikoi always great. Most definitely will be coming back sooner read more

We looked over the menu and I got the Portuguese sausage and egg breakfast while the wife got the miso salmon Lent special. Both dishes were really good. I have never been to a zippys before but have heard many coworkers rave about the food. While driving by I noticed there was a newly opened one so I decided to stop in and see what the hype was about. The restaurant is beautiful and spacious. We were welcomed and assisted by a nice gentleman who explained the menu and helped us make some choices. Our order took about 20 min to come out. My daughter ordered the keikis chicken and spam musubi. She enjoyed it a lot. I ordered the Korean chicken with double Mac salad. The chicken had a good flavor but was very overcooked. I kept cutting my gums trying to eat it and chewing it was like trying to chew through Jerky. Such a shame because im sure if cooked properly it's probably good. The macaroni salad was very good! I enjoyed it. The blueberry coffee cake was very dry prob from sitting out all day. I also ordered a mochisada. The flavor is good but again very stale and super hard crunchy throughout even the mochi part was pretty dry. I'm sure if i got it fresh it'd been amazing. The teriyaki beef bun was good. The experience wasn't what I was expecting from so many people ive heard raving about it. Maybe we just came at an off time? Next time I'll order a whole meal of the Korean chicken because that was the stand out protein for me. My 2.5YO enjoyed a musubi before the rest of the food arrived. As early as we were for breakfast, I was surprised they were already out of kids menus (unneeded for meals, more so for toddler coloring distraction). Also when I used the restroom and washed my hands, the water temp nearly burned my skin off. Service was great and it felt like a family place. read more

Our waiter was Luis and he was so kind and helpful. The food tasted delicious as always. I was very sad/disappointed that they discontinued the omelet with diced spam. So I just ordered a chili bowl with rice and some cornbread not grilled. My husband ordered Korean chicken and an orange bang to drink. Very nice and clean restaurant. First and Last Visit -- Extremely Disappointed My husband and I decided to try Zippys for the first time on May 27th, and unfortunately it was a huge disappointment from start to finish. Our receipt time was 3:20 PM, and this experience guaranteed that we will never return. I placed a takeout order for: a 3-piece fried chicken combo a 2-piece fried chicken with fries a kids' mac and cheese meal a kids' hamburger meal The problems started immediately when I was told they had completely run out of hamburger buns. They offered to use regular sliced bread instead, which I reluctantly agreed to just so we could still get the meal. When we got home, we discovered they completely forgot the fries for the kids' hamburger meal. On top of that, the fried chicken looked and tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp all day. I'll be attaching a picture because the quality was honestly shocking. The condition of the restaurant itself was just as bad. There didn't appear to be any air conditioning running, and while I waited for my order, I watched multiple customers try to get ice for their drinks only to find the ice machine either empty or broken. Afterward, I tried calling the location to speak with a manager and left a message. My daughter also emailed them on my behalf. So far, we have not received any response at all. I spent $45.90 on food that we could barely eat. I normally try to give places the benefit of the doubt, but this experience was unacceptable.
