I'm actually very impressed with Zippy's: Review for sit down portion: Service was good Food: Best thing was the teriyaki beef Spam was really good Fried Chicken was good one time and pretty good the other. Rice was good, fries were ok. Grilled corn bread was good Orange bang float is pretty interesting but probably not worth getting. Tofu veggie patty was ok, not much flavor. Dobash cake isn't up to my standards but ok - had only 1 layer of pudding inside and a bit dry. Review for the quick side: First off it seems slow unless you get it togo Root beer float greatly over priced. Food still good, about the same as the sit down, chairs are less comfortable and it's hard to have a party over 4 sit together. read more

oh you. I'm going to miss you the most. I'm not rich, so this long distance relationship thing is not gonna work out. You were there for me at the right place, at the right time. Starving from my 5-hour flight from LAX, your were waiting patiently right near the airport. A friend from OAHU raved about how you were cheap, easy and enjoyable. That combination enticed me, and when I gazed upon your menu, i almost fell in love. I was overwhelmed. I was intoxicated. What wasn't there to love about you? I know we should have took it slow, but I was insatiable; I needed it all right now. The Chili and Chicken combo allowed me to have a hearty taste of everything. Your thighs (of chicken) were juicy, most and had great salty flavor you only get from brines or broasting. The chili was a little sloppy and messy, but well worth it. I had the best of you, but oh no, I was far from done. A peek at your buns... in your bakery was needed. Napples galore, jello cheesecake. You are as sweet as you look. Some may compare you to Denny's, we know you are a tad bit more special than that. It is much too bad I can't take you back to the mainland with me. I really wanted to have all of you. But I had a wonderful summer fling with you while on Maui. It would be unfair of me to ask you to wait until I return. But I secretly look forward to my next visit to the islands, thanks to you. read more

This is the ONLY Zippy's on Maui. Let me repeat myself. THIS IS THE ONLY ZIPPY'S ON MAUI. Or at least when we visited. So do yourself a favor and come here straight from the airport. It's super close. We were staying in Lahaina and didn't realized that until it was too late. We thought maybe we could check in, take a quick shower, and head out to grab a bite. We never thought we had to drive 45 minutes back out there to get our beloved Zippy's. Dang it! But you can't go to Hawaii and NOT get Zippy's. That's just unheard of. So this location offers the full service dining(where you have a waitress) and the order at the counter and pick it up yourself option. We're not the fancy kind, so we chose the latter. Since it's the only location on the island, the prices reflect that. Everything is a few dollars more than you would pay on Oahu. But we don't care. TAKE OUR MONEY!!!! I usually get the Korean Chicken, a cup of chili without beans, and an orange bang. My husband usually get the Zip packs (fried chicken, spam, and teri beef, fried fish, over rice). Nomnomnom. Zippy's was our first stop after we landed in Maui. I always get Zippy's when I used to travel to Oahu. It's my go to place for plate lunch unless I decide to eat other specialty foods. So I ordered my normal Loco Moco. Let's just say it's never a disappointment. The hamburger was not at all dry, the gravy was just right (not super thick nor thin), and the eggs....well the eggs made the dish that much tastier. My boyfriend ordered the Chili and Chicken Plate. According to him, the taste is very consistent with other Zippy's. The Chicken was fried to a golden crisp without drying out the meat. My bf's sister ordered The Chicken and shrimp dish. They were all fried items. Lol. Not too shabby. Last but not least we ordered the Chili Cheese Nachos. OMG! Not a healthy choice but geeze! It's delicious! So zippys....I give you 4 stars! read more

I love Saehee K. but I have to say...Zippy's was just meh. We stopped by before we went to the airport and I got the chili and rice because my friend raves about it and my husband got the loco moco. Once we went through all of the obstacles to get to the boarding gate we sat down and ate and when I ate the chili...it tasted like Wendy's! LOL (sorry Saehee!!!) However...I will say the loco moco was pretty good! Not the best, but still better than any other loco moco spot back in California... I would recommend if you're near by and Da Kitchen is open..eat there...I didn't have the chance to and I'm still depressed about it :( read more

Oh Zippy's how I wished you existed on the mainland. My husband used to live in Hawaii and mentioned that Zippy's is like a hawaiian version of Denny's and I was immediately put off by it. But he didn't say that it's like if someone took a hawaiian mama and put her in charge of the kitchen at Denny's. There is a huge selection of foods here, there is your typical diner selections (burgers, salads, etc.) and then there's the hawaiian food! The Korean fried chicken was Super crispy and slightly sweet. I really liked their Mac salad too. They had Keiki Meals for reasonable prices. But what really got my heart is the masaladas. Because i was so stuffed i didn't order the filled masalada, i opted for the cinnamon sugar ones and WOW! Fresh from the fryer goodness. The masalada was so light and has just the right amount of chewiness. Just perfect. The second time we went to Zippy's I had the Zip Pac (1 piece fried Chicken, 1 slice of ham, and teriyaki beef) over rice. that was pretty good too, the chicken was very crispy maybe a little over fried, but i don't mind. I tried the Orange Bang since it was recommended by my friend. I dunno, it's not bad but it just tastes like Orange Tang with some creamer to me. On our last day in Maui we went here for brunch. I had the loco moco and the gravy was pretty good but the beef pattie was a little over cooked (but again i personally don't really mind overcooked meat in places like these). We always ate at the diner portion of the restaurant (there's a diner, bakery and fast food under one roof) and the waiters were always super duper friendly. The bakery had lots of good stuff, I really wanted to try the Andagi but nobody at the bakery bothered to help me. Had they been more attentive i would've given them 5 stars. read more

Zippy's isn't spectacular but is one of those things you have to do when you're in Hawaii (I visit a Zippy's whenever I make it out to Hawaii). You can always get a decent meal for a decent price and this particular one was on the way to the airport so it was also convenient. This Zippy's was extremely clean and service was very good. We got a couple breakfast bento's, one corned beef hash & spam and one linguica & spam. Both were solid meals and kept us satisfied until we ate later on our flight home. 3 solid stars because that's what I'd give to any Zippy's. You won't be getting a gourmet meal, but you will be getting a filling meal at a good price. read more

SAD! SAD! SAD! Went there by myself for a quick lunch in the restaurant. There were 2 other tables of 2 and 4 people beside myself being seated. Took a wait help 10 minutes before I ordered my saimin! And another 15 minutes to get my order! I totally understand how a lot of businesses are understaffed, however, I was the 3rd table in the whole restaurant! 2 waitresses, one table already received their meal when I ordered and the other had just finished their meal! There was a time...4-5 years ago when I patronized Zippy's because I like their food and they have a nice variety of local style food, but since this last experience? Are you kidding me? 25 minutes of service time for a simple bowl of saimin, with 2 waitresses and only 7 people in the WHOLE restaurant is a bit disappointing! Not going there again! Got plenty of other local style restaurants that have better service and even better food! read more

I absolutely love zippy's! I miss it now that I'm back in the states, but this place is my favorite night time munchies! Zippy's menu is huge so it's kind of daunting the first time I went there. Luckily service was super friendly and walked me through the menu and let me know what items were popular. I ended up getting the mini Korean fried chicken! Now I love their concept of mini because you can get mini almost anything. It's essentially a smaller meal since the regular size is huge in my opinion. So by getting a mini I was able to feel satisfied, but not too full. The mini Korean fried chicken came with a scoop of rice and Mac salad. That's probably my favorite thing about Hawaii, so many places give you rice and Mac salad with your meal. The Korean fried chicken was good, it had a nice sweet, but also savory from the chicken. Perfect to eat with starches like rice and Mac salad. Overall, if I ever go back to Hawaii I'm definitely stopping by zippy's to get their Korean fried chicken again! read more

Zippy's is considered to be Hawaiian Fast Food. Food that on the mainland would be considered a combination of Chinese, Filipino and Southern, on the islands are what I would categorize as Polynesian. It's a mixtures of fried with rice, noodles with protein and always with two scoops of rice and macaroni salad. I mean, where else would you be able to find SPAM on the same menu as chili, ramen noodles and fried chicken. This was my first experience with Zippy's and I would say it tasted exactly as I thought it was going to be. It wasn't refined, but that's not what they set out to be. It was fast food with a twist. Fried, oily and kitschy...things that all taste great together after getting off from a 4 1/2 hour flight from the mainland where food consists of a small packet of Asian flavored snacks. The protein was dry as was the rice, but oddly enough the SPAM was perfectly cooked. The service was less than stellar, but that's not something unexpected...but it is a bit unusual for someone to hand you a tray of food without handing you silverware to eat it with. Overall, it was a nice introduction to a different way of life and I would just say this...you judge the success of a restaurant by its customers and this place was packed at 10pm at night. Beautiful restaurant, love the layout and how clean this place is. Service was very friendly and wonderful! I tried the chicken Katsu curry saimin and requested for it to be split in two with the katsu curry on the side. The unsweetened iced tea was refreshing and if you get the large it is refillable! Definitely recommend this place and will be back when I am in Maui! read more

BLOT: ok food, although I have had better. A real deal compared with the rest of Maui. ------------- After landing we headed straight over. Big place, located next to the sugar museum just before the home depot on 380. Plenty of 4.89 specials but went for the for regular menu. Ordered zip min, zip pac, and surf pac. Rice was good with the pac's, but the won tons in the min were mostly wrapper and tasted a little freezer burned. Malasadas were hot and fresh. Great service from Kelani. Real bonus that this place is open 24x7. Save some $ and order from the take away side. read more

We call this place the Hawaiian Denny's! But the truth is, Zippy's fare is fare better. If you're looking for good basic food at a fair price in a spotless setting, don't miss Zippy's. Many local favorites on the menu, and the baked goods are wonderful. Friendly staff too! You can't go wrong with this great casual spot near OGG. read more

3 stars, yes but a solid 3 and for the diversity of menu, speed and price, you might not find a better 3 star. All the basic, nothing stands out but it is good grinds. Korean Chicken is good but sometimes a little too much time in the "pool" (over fried). Chicken Katsu great, looks like they added Malasadas too. We wanted to try but were told they take 8 minutes. Hope they figure out how to speed up the sweets. We found some great ones at the door of K Mart and they were served on the fly! read more

Maybe It tasted better when I was younger but I guess my expectations was higher. It's been more than ten years so my taste buds have tasted many great food. Other than that service was slow. I had the chicken katsu. I don't know how long they had their sauces in packets but when I remembered it never was like that. Well not much to say but It could have been better. read more

this zippy's looks quite nice from the outside. I'm comparing this one to the one I've been to near Waikiki. The right side (take out, fast eating area)-- is not that clean of an area (-1 star). had saimin, chili rice, and korean fried chicken. best surprise of the night was the fried chicken. a little spicy, a little sweet, fried but also with enough meat. earlier in the day, I had gotten the orange chicken at Foodland Pukalani and was sorely disappointed with the over breaded, wimpy meat. important note to the new to Maui. if you are heading south on 311, in order to get to Zippy's on the left, you have to go to the right as there is no left turn lane onto Hookele St. Another way is if you are typical and have already gone to Walmart, just keep going south on Pakaula St and then turn right on Hookele. read more

Horrible! Ordered some pans for a party we were having about 2 weeks ahead of time. We even called to confirm they received our order and they said they did. The day of our party came and we get a email an hour before it starts, saying our order was canceled with no explanation or phone call. Of course we didn't see the email till about half hour before pickup, we tried calling to see if it was a mistake and no one answered. Drove there and only saw workers walking around. Never catering anything from here ever again. read more

The spaghetti was the same classic as it is in the Mainland USA. The restaurant was super new-looking, and clean. They had someone cleaning up tables constantly. The restrooms were also pretty clean! There is booth seating in the back and bar-style seating in the front. I would definitely come back if I had to grab a quick bite before I hop onto a flight out of OGG. They would never disappoint!

Plate lunches come with the option of Macaroni Salad or Corn for the side so I opted for the buttery Corn. I added Sautéed Onion and Mushroom to the Hamburger Steak and it was "broke da mouth" Ono! The Mini Plate comes with 2 hamburger patties so guessing a Regular Plate is 3-4 patties. Make sure you treat yourself to a delicious Sweet Crepe! My favorite is the Banana and we always add Nutella. If you're not feeling a Crepe, you need to get a delicious Shake! The flavors are endless: Ube, Pandan, Fruity Pebbles, or Cinnamon Toast Crunch! Dine in outside or call in an order and park on the far side wall and someone will bring out your order. I'll usually call in to hear their Specials of the Day.

Walking up to the chicken restaurant I walked up to a kiosk and ordered my food through there. It was about 15 minutes. I wanted to say until I got my food and when I saw it, my eyes grew so big! The chicken was so moist, and there was so much flavor that it was like bing bang in my mouth. I got mine very spicy so definitely if you're looking for spice to order it spicy. All I can say if you want a quick lunch that is delicious and appropriately priced come check this place out and have yourself a chicken sandwich!

Plus since I always want to try something new. Let's see what Hangry Joe's Hot Chicken has to offer this not so hangry yet, girl. So far so good, their stock photos look appetizing. I already picked out a list of items I'd like to try like the: Chicken Sando, Chicken Fingers, Chicken Wrap, Loaded Fries, Salad w/ Chicken Breast as well as the Loaded Mac & Cheese. As for my first visit I chose to try the Loaded Fries with Medium heat & my fiancé chose the Chicken Bites in Mild. Just to be on the safe side when trying out new restaurants as to what they consider to be spicy. I'll usually start in the middle & work my way up on spice. Mild or medium didn't have that kick I was looking for so I'll try hot on my next visit. Just not sure which item will win my pick just yet. However I am a fan of their logo & overall atmosphere. It's a fun restaurant to order at. They have 3 self serve kiosks to order from. The two on the outside are for ordering Hangry Joe's Hot Chicken & the one in the middle is for ordering off of the dessert menu. Which being that I'm usually not one to order soda. I was extremely excited to have an option to order a Thai Tea Boba from here too. So there's still plenty from their treat menu that I'm eager to try as well. My only suggestion I can think of is maybe having different size options to choose from. Cause my loaded fries came in a massive box. It was enough to feed me for 3 meals, breakfast, lunch & dinner. Dating tips: If you're on a budget take your light eater here for an inexpensive date & just take your leftovers to go. We let them know it was our first time and the young lady at the counter explained the specials. They share a space with a shaved ice company so inside seating is about 4 tables. Lots of outdoor tables. We had the burger on the Japanese milk bread and a double burger on their home made buns. Both were delicious, albeit a bit smaller than I anticipated for an a la cart burger for $18. Fries or tots are extra. $10 for a half and half combo. The pork and beans were absolutely amazing. Lots of pork sausage, bacon, a hot dog maybe and sweet beans. Fantastic. The bottle of coke was $5, but if you want water, you'll have to pour it into the smallest of paper cups from an igloo jug. For two people we were in it for $50. A little more than I expected for a burger lunch. Excellent flavors tho.

When I notified the staff member who was making the salads, she replaced a part of the salad instead of remaking it and continued using the same gloves afterward. I clarified that fly was one more than that one spot and asked for a new salad please. She appeared visibly frustrated. I did not mind waiting until the person behind me was finished being helped, especially since she was the only other person in line. As someone who has worked in the food industry, I understand that situations like this can happen. However, proper food safety protocol would require discarding the contaminated item and changing gloves before preparing new food. This was not done. While remaking the salad, she whispered to a coworker, who then looked at me and laughed. That really topped of my experience. So my question is would you want to eat that salad?

I usually have my 2 go to's. I do love the Lemon & Thyme Chicken Sandwich (you can ask for it to be in a wheat wrap with no extra cost or Gluten Free wrap which would cost extra). If you opt for the wrap, there's no side salad but if you opt for the sandwich, they should include the side salad and a side of Kimchee Banana peppers. I usually ask for more because portions can be small. The ciabatta bread the sandwich comes in is freshly made on island but can be huge and even if I cut it in half, everything starts falling out so I prefer the wrap at times. The Ancient Grain bowl is my other go to. It's basically a Greek Salad but with Quinoa and Red Cabbage and it comes with Tzatziki sauce and a Lemon Herb vinaigrette. If you love soup, there's a Butternut Squash that's quite addicting, Tomato Bisque that tastes delicious like a Marinara sauce and if I need some protein, I opt for the Lamb Chili. Always ask for a side of Gluten Free or Sourdough bread! The staff here is always so friendly and accommodating. If it wasn't for the point system with my phone number linked, I don't think I'd come here as much. When I accumulate points, I'll usually hit the first tier and get a free cookie or free lemonade to redeem but I've also gotten a free salad too without protein if I eat here more often.

I'm getting over a cold and it's been raining off and on for weeks. The bowl arrived at the table with a plate underneath - smart move because it takes some work to eat oxtail soup. Armed with my fork and spoon, I went at it. The first taste floored me. It was perfectly seasoned and I could taste the fresh ginger, the broth was a beautiful brown color, there was plenty of napa cabbage and it came with a dish of a scoop of glossy steamed rice and steamed carrots, zucchini and broccoli. Our waitress offered to bring over condiments so I went for the soy sauce - sprinkled on the rice and veggies, I noticed that the veggies might have had a little sesame oil flavor on them so that made me happy. A spoonful of rice dunked into the broth with some of the tender fall of the bone oxtail meat, and a little crunch of the napa cabbage and I was in absolute heaven. I tasted my husband's pork adobo and that was equally as delicious as always. But that soup - that's what really did it for me last night and stays with me today. I walked out of Tante's with a swollen and happy belly and a fresh, tiny piece of ginger stuck between my teeth...a treat for later.
