With so many choices in NY, avoid Zuma. Unless you want to surround yourself with the worst staff in NY. The food is pretty good, but I would rather go to a trusted neighborhood sushi spot and be treated nicely, then spend money in a place that doesn't know how to accommodate customers. A friend and I went early to celebrate her promotion. We had a reservation for 3, but our one friend would not make it for the 6pm reservation, we figured we would be done by 730 and meet him upstairs. We were the very first in the row of two top tables, which were flanked, by three top table. We asked if we could have a different table with a little more room in case our friend arrived earlier, they insisted that they had reservations for all and that it gets "too busy" they would not be able to sit us unless the full party was there. OK, OK, this is such a NY thing - I've heard this before - but let me emphasize that we were the 1st and there was a three seater right next to us AND at the end of the row of seats we were sitting in. An hour later they sit two women at the three top, OH and you guessed it, two people at the three top on the other side. Our friend showed up, was treated rudely, and when we asked our waiter if we could squeeze him in, he said he would have to ask a manager. The manager NEVER came over - our friend ended up leaving. Meanwhile about 5 minutes later, one of the managers did go over to the table next to us to talk to the two women at the three top and fawned over them, gave them his card. I was so disturbed by this point, that I decided to just write a horrendous review instead. My friend and I eat out at least 3 times a week, we are taken out by clients often. Review for Zuma Miami: What a horrendous experience! We Came there on A Thursday night to celebrate girlfriend's birthday. Our reservation was for 9pm. The place was packed and even at the bar there was no place to wait. After waiting in between the rows for more than an hour we were finally sat at the table by the hostess. The waiter came to take our order, as he was doing his thing, he was interrupted by the manager Freddy. He came and dropping sweat on our shirts stared that we need to free up the table for other people who had reserved this table. We said that we were sat here by the waitress. He had really humiliating attitude and kept asking us to show the reservation. After the back and forth with him he finally admitted that they made a mistake, but the mood was already spoiled. There were no apology of any kind. When we were leaving the second manager was sent to us to add insult to the injury by saying that the hostess made a mistake and we shouldn't have been seated there in a first place. None of them offered and kind of apology and they were totally rude and unprofessional. This is totally unacceptable behavior for such high end place. My bf and I ordered the omakase signature which has 15 dishes shared. ( raw and cooked dishes and the last dish is this MASSIVE fruit, mini chocolate cake and ice cream platter #yesplease) All the dishes were wonderful but my favorite was the filet. So juicy & tender and I loved the sauce that was drizzled over it...i kinda want it now just talking about it hehe The reason why I am giving 4 stars for service is because as they bring the dishes , they are suppose to explain how to eat each dish but that wasn't the case each time. I loved the sommelier that helped us bc not only did she recommend a great bottle of wine, she helped us make a decision of getting the omakase signature. I don't typically write bad reviews. That being said, the food was a 2.8/5. Not horrible, but there is simply too much competition in this space to serve mediocre Asian Fusion/Sushi. The Sushi is mediocre at best btw. The best dishes included the salmon/tuna tar tar and the desserts. The decor happens to be great. Second: The waiters at this place are clueless. In order to turn more seats they let the waiters take orders and then have other busboys or closest person take care of the table. I placed our order with the waiter, then the bus boy filled in half the dinner to act as the second waiter. There was no coordination between the two and they got numerous things wrong. They simply forgot to bring drinks 2 separate times we asked. A third waiter brought me a soda and poured it for me. He then spilled 1/4 of it all over the table, looked at me and then just walked away without cleaning it up. It was actually comical. Message for management: Take note of your competition at Lavo, Tao etc. Trendy doesn't last very long in this city, service and execution does. read more

This place looks beautiful, feels lively and promises so much. The reservation and seating is handled surprisingly well. I've been three times now and although it always appears full they seem to easily find us a good seat each time. Drinks are good if a little on the high side price wise. There's a lychee and rose martini that is a no brainer for my female guests. The sake list is solid too. Food is good but not great. At these prices I really expect better base ingredients. A little synthetic truffle oil isn't going to hide the fact that you're penny pinching on the proteins. My recommendation- stick with the seafood, it seems to be their forte. Service is where they lost me. I never know who my server is or where they are. Staff buzzing around everywhere constantly with a million things to do more important than attending to guests. I honestly have no idea how this system works at all. I'm going to give them a break and see if they can improve on that front. read more

The cocktails were also impressive, especially the specialty cocktail list, which truly stood out. If you're planning to order any entrée, the black cod is a must-try. Amazing!!! I have been a big fan of your London and Miami spots and we definitely looked forward to the NYC opening. Last night was my third visit, and I must say after only a few weeks things really seem to be clicking. Your staff was friendly, attentive and made the whole experience a pleasure for me and my clients. We just leased new office space across the street and I am confident my office and I will be coming often. I actually am coming back this Saturday night with friends for dinner as well. The staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive without being intrusive. We ordered the tomahawk steak and the lobster -- both dishes were absolutely phenomenal. Just found my new favorite spot in NYC! This place is the perfect blend of chic, fun, and vibey all at once. I was absolutely blown away by how stunning the venue is. From the moment I walked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming. They even let me take my seat early since one of our guests was running 20 minutes late--such thoughtful service! Our waitress, Sasha, was amazing--so patient, informative, quick, and kind. She made the experience even better. And the food? Absolutely delicious. I visited Zuma with my best friend to celebrate her birthday. The atmosphere was intimate, leaning more towards a corporate or business dinner setting. Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations, especially considering the high prices. The sushi ( not pictured) tasted off and upset my stomach, and the king crab leg was just a single, unimpressive piece of crab meat. Overall, I was disappointed with the food. On a positive note, the customer service was excellent, and the manager was very welcoming. 3/5- I won't be returning because there's so many better restaurants in the city! read more

I wish I took more photos, but I recently dined at Zuma for a large party and it was an amazing experience. The restaurant itself was gorgeous, and we had a private room upstairs that made the evening feel extra special. All of our servers were fantastic and very attentive, and I loved the attention to detail from the welcome sign to the custom menus. The food was excellent. The sushi tasted incredibly fresh, and everything from the steak to the lobster was cooked perfectly and beautifully presented. Food Was ok. The decor is very nice. I was a little nervous based on what some of my friends told me about the service. They were spot on. From when I arrive I was a little upset with my server. didn't really have to much enthusiasm with the menu. But i knew what I was there for so it didn't matter. I just booked our company party here so I had to give them a try for lunch to try out some menu options. First off, everyone is so friendly and attentive. Went there last night for the first time. Our waiter was horrible I placed a order and he never put it in and when I complained he shrugged me off as if he didn't care. He did not try to accommodate me or anything but once the manager came over she was outstanding. I would go back but never get Bernie for a waiter he's horrible. Service was very slow, and my wife's wagyu beef, ordered medium well, came overcooked. The manager refused to correct it, claiming we had eaten too much, even after I explained we were sharing. However, what was disappointing was the wait, made the reservation but it more than an hour for us to get seated.
