A lovely atmosphere with an upscale feel. Service was excellent... we were seated promptly, our drinks were brought out quickly, and when our lunch was delayed, the manager came by to apologize. The server suggested starting with the tomato basil soup, and wow, was it was the best ever!! I'd go back just for that! Our salads were beautiful, absolutely delicious, and we felt healthy eating them! I am gluten-free, so the server assured me they would mark and check my food. Indeed. It's an interesting phenomenon to feel like your in a 'fancy' restaurant, while at the same time, feeling completely comfortable and welcomed. From the well appointed furniture, decor and open kitchen, there is just no stuffiness in this epicurean delight. The food choices could fit any palate and deliciousness abounds in any of these curated options. We're a large family of seven (okay, it's not that large) but the whole gang has eaten here on several occasions: lunch, birthdays and anniversaries. The young ones have their favorites, especially the French fries and chow down anything 'beef' there. Well, these kiddies are in good company! The rest of us absolutely love any and all of the menu. Our service by Cliff was friendly and attentive. Dining Tuesday evening, we availed ourselves of the 50% off wine bottle deal. Salmon baked on a cedar plank with asparagus ($26) was delicious. This has been a long awaited review, but here it is. I ordered one of their daily specials: Sea bass delivered straight from California, never frozen. It comes with a kale salad but I had it subbed for asparagus. The sea bass was definitely fresh and very juicy. But I prefer sea bass steamed versus grilled. When you grill it, you are likely to remove the savory flavor of the fish. Whereas when steamed, the flavor is preserved. Especially here, the fish was completely grilled over. I feel like when you do this, no matter what fish you use, it's going to taste pretty similar. The dish did come with a dipping sauce, which was very creamy and paired well with the fish. Otherwise, the fish would have been a major flop. My friend ordered the Surf and Turf. It's a rib eye. He also got crab cake and mashed potatoes. If you like mashed potato loaded with butter, this would be perfect for you. Personally, I loved it. The crab cake was very fresh tasting and it actually reminds me of the sea. This may or may not be a good thing depending on whether you like the authentic taste of seafood or not. I bet this would taste heavenly with a sunny side up egg on top. The rib eye was super tender, but the major drawback was that it was very very lightly seasoned, with nothing but a bit of salt and pepper. There was almost no distinguishable flavor. It's like the chefs here can only nail down two out of three things right for any one dish. The food was good, but at that price point you won't be able to get me to come back, again. My coworkers love this place, though, so to each their own :)! read more

I write this as a former server (many, many years) and I know how sh#tty the general public can be, especially now, in the time of Covid...just wanted to start with that. I think I can try to understand the stress and B.S. that everyone in the restaurant industry is and has been going through. I will also admit to being VERY diligent about mask wearing, not only to protect me, but most importantly, to protect my elderly mother and friends and family of all ages. Here's my point...I walked in and only THREE staff members were wearing masks and when I inquired why such low numbers, I was told by the manager that masks are not required of those who have health or safety reasons for not wearing masks and he gave a personal example of why he does not wear a mask. So, my assumption (without quizzing the other employees, as that would be a bit much) was that they too had "health or safety reasons" for not wearing masks. Seems like an unusually large number of workers in one place with health issues. If I am wrong, then I do indeed apologize. Every other restaurant that I have gone to in the South Asheville area has employees who wear masks...all of them. I work in healthcare now and understand that wearing a mask is a real friggin' drag, but unless we try to protect ourselves and others, we are never...going... to ...get...past...this...sh$t! Plus, things aren't as rosy there as they used to be. This used to be one of my favorite special places to go to. And, before someone says, "staffing issues", they had plenty of staff: beverage person, food runner and main server. And, sadly, the food was not as good as it used to be. Again, I get the current situation, but there are super simple ways to make it better. Humanity, that's all I'm asking for. read more

We arrived close to closing time and we were greeted by two lovely hostesses who gave an array of choices for suggested seating, of which we chose to sit in a cozy booth with perfect ambient light. We were then introduced to Kyle who was paramount to this special evening. His descriptions of the food were both intricate and elaborate. We had the salmon which was grilled to perfection and a kale and quinoa salad which I would normally never order but because of Kyle's illustrious elucidation of said side dish, I had to order it. And it was heavenly. The desserts sounded delectable but we were too satiated to attempt the inclusion of these decadent after dinner sweets. Kyle really was the best server I have probably ever had. He is passionate at what he does and sells each item with a honest depiction of the dish. He's so attentive. We couldn't have been more pleased! Incredibly disappointed in the entire experience we had this past weekend. We had made reservations for a birthday, with their wish being a great steakhouse and experience. I asked around and was directed to elevations chophouse, Ruth Chris and 131 main. I thought the menu at 131 looked like it offered a good range. So we made our reservation. From the moment we walked in till we left, we were all left without words for the lack of customer service, connection, rapport and more. Our waitress was so cold towards us that even another table commented on her interactions. She barely made eye contact. Didn't talk to us nor connect. Had her eyes looking everywhere else but us, where two customers asked us why she was so busy and what with. We agreed we felt that same energy and how unsettling it was. None of us felt comfortable asking for anything. Or even trying to ask for a straw. She was cold as ice. It blows my mind bc part of the job of a server is to create connection and an experience so that we would want to return. She never was present with us. It was incredibly uncomfortable. We wore all so disappointed. And I feel horrible that I made the decisions where and everyone has such a let down experience. I also have no idea what happened but throughout the meal we didn't get things we did ask for, however we received 9 mugs of coffee. When only 2 were ordered. By all random wait staff. The one gentleman who walked by that offered to bag up my plate was a gem. His character, personality and care was above and beyond. I'm so upset and just needed to share. Nobody wants to return. I feel like I know it would be better if maybe we had someone who cares about their tables. read more

Food was delicious! We enjoyed dinner at 131 Main as a date night treat- it was well worth it. The ribs and chicken were cooked to perfection and the sauce was great. I ordered it with fries and substituted green beans in place of slaw- so glad I did. The green beans were cooked bacon and some of the best I have even had. I also ordered a side salad with the house garlic dressing- again very impressed by the fresh quality of all the ingredients. The atmosphere was nice, the restaurant was clean. It was not a quiet date night place as there were large tables with families/groups close by but we still felt like we weren't having to yell to have conversation. Only complaint was seeing majority of the staff (including all cooks) unmasked while we are still under a mask mandate for the county. read more

We really enjoyed dinner this evening before checking out a 7:45 movie next door. Our server, Johnny, was extremely knowledgeable about food preparation and very friendly. The seafood was very fresh("flown in fresh and never frozen" - Johnny) and properly seasoned. We started with the house smoked salmon which was some of the best I have ever had. For entrées we split the ahi tuna salad and woodfire grilled Seabass special feature, which we both really enjoyed. The dish came with the best quinoa salad I have ever eaten. We decided to add an additional side of asperagus which was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Tuna was very lightly seared but still rare just as it should be. The dressing was incredible and made for a great balanced dished complemented with spring mix, avocado, mango and pickled ginger! The open kitchen was very clean and all the employees smiled when making eye contact. On the way out 3 separate employees thanked us for dining with them which proved to me the management does a terrific job training staff. The poor reviews on here are by "those people"...you know the ones who are just impossible to make happy...are used to sh*T chains(outback/chili's) or just went during peak hours when mistakes are all to common.
